This is the first in the series. The book deals with some sensitive topics. The characters are well written. The ending was good. Looking forward to next in the series.
I'd never heard of a lumberjill so this book was educational as well as entertaining. I loved the characters. I loved the story. I did feel that the relationship with Cy was incredible as they'd only just met and were in love immediately but love at first sight eh! Just because it hasn't happened to me doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
This year I have started picking up more wartime fiction as it’s a genre I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy. This was a very good read.
A thought provoking read, with lots of love and Wartime girls. I loved the characters and their interactions. A huge recommend to read The Timber Girls
Amazing WWII historical fiction about a group of strong women, its about friendship, love & Strength in a tough world.
This is my first read by Rosie Archer and I really enjoyed learning about each character and followingeach of their stories. I loved the relationships, the friendship between the girls and the romantic ones aswell. Each of the girls where totally different from each other and has their own reason for signing up. I liked Trixie, Hen, Jo & Vi equally.
The Timber girls was an interesting read and I Highly recommended. I will be reading more from Rosie Archer in the future.
A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.
Historical drama set during World War Two featuring and following a group of girls who sign up to become Lumberjills.
Jo, Viv, Hen and Trixie all have their own reasons for joining the WW2 effort by becoming Lumberjills and were sent to Scotland to learn that trade. The lives of the girls are completely different from those they came from and found themselves working outdoors in very inclement weather. As they become closer, they laid bare their secrets and, hopefully, there will be a further book in this series.
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me to read and review this book
I have read other books by the author and enjoyed them so I knew this would be a good read. Lovely characters and I always enjoy a WWII setting.
A story about girls who for different reasons sign up to be lumberjills during the war.. |Follow their lives through the training period and the secrets that come out in the end. Well written and giving this 5 stars.
|Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
I have not read a book before about the lumberjills before but really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. It was very interesting to learn what they did to become lumberjills.
Trixie enlists with the lumberjills and makes friends with Vi, Hen and Jo. All of them have different reasons for joining and believe it will be a better life than staying at home. We get to know the girls throughout the book but the main character is Trixie.
The description of the job of an lumberjill was written well.
There is a sequel to this book would certainly like to read more and what happens to them all.
Very well written.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this brilliant book
4 girls are going to be lumberjills, its their way of doing their bit for the war
and along their journey they become firm friends but each of them have their own reasons for joining the lumberjills
as their basic training comes to an end their lives are about to change again as they each will be sent onto where their new skills are needed, worrying times as they have become firm friends but its the weekend visit home that finally makes them understand each other better and brings their friendships closer
4 women from different parts of society, brought together as lumberjills and what a story it is..cant wait for the next book in this series
Thank you to all concerned for my chance to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion.
I have read other books by this author and have enjoyed them
I do like books set in WW2 as well
I had recently read another book about the Lumberjills having really not heard of them or their work before and this one in some ways mirrored that book in that the girls signed on to do their patriotic bit for the War effort.
However having said that the books were similar but different and it was great to read about the training the girls underwent
Of course there was much scene setting regarding the back stories of the girls and their previous lives and the ending really was such that there could and would be a follow up
Which I will look out for as I find Rosie Archers books always a good read
If you like WW2 historical fiction and finding out about the various services then this book is for you
Thank you again for my chance to read this book
This book is a beautifully written and emotional romance. Its historical setting and fresh, contemporary style will appeal to both historical fiction and romance readers. It is an utterly bedazzling novel, a compulsive page-turner rich in historical detail, and a heart-stopping romance.
Excellent WWII historical fiction featuring a group of strong women. It's compelling and entertaining.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Didn’t finish. Just not for me I’m afraid. The meeting with the American was so quick I couldn’t get behind that storyline I’m afraid although I really wanted to.
Fantastic book loved it , nothing else I can say. Just read and you’ll be taken back in time, which will engrossed you to continue reading
Unputdownable! I really enjoyed this book mainly cause I was interested in the characters from the off. They were believable and interesting, so was the subject matter. The girls joining up are all wary of one another, some never having worked before others never having been away from home. They learn through hard work and endurance to pull together and work as a team. The fact that there are some Canadian woodsmen working close by helps to make things more interesting!
I’m sure the fact that I live in the area depicted in the story helped as I was able to picture all the places named..
This is the first book I have read by this author and it certainly won’t be the last.
Trixie is bored working in the greengrocers & playing piano in the local pub. She also thinks if she wasn't there her mother & the lodger would finally get together- something she would love to see. She decides to join the Lumberjills. Wartime Britain needs timber badly & it is something new. Soon she is on her way to Scotland to learn her craft. On her way to the train she meets Cy- a soldier from New Orleans & for both it is love at first sight for both of them. Travelling North she meets up with other girls from her area & they soon become good friends.
This was a great story following the fortunes of the girls & Cy & his friend. I really enjoyed it & can't wait for the next in the series to see what happens next. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
I really enjoy reading World War 2 fiction and I especially like to read about the ro!e of women during this era. I believe this is a series and I very much look forward to the rest, as well as other books by Rosie Archer.
