Overcoming Suicidal Thoughts for Teens is a comprehensive manual on how to navigate suicidal thinking experienced by teenagers. This book provides many helpful tips on how to help a struggling teenager including: identifying when to seek help, identifying severity of suicidal thoughts, and how to deal with them. Many important topics are introduced in this book including: dealing with divorce, unhealthy friendships, difficulty with romantic relationships, and bullying. This book is a wonderful resource with easy action steps presented. The coping strategies that are offered are easy to follow and can help anyone. There are provided vignettes that the teenager and parent can relate to. I highly recommend this book. Thank you the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book is a very valuable addition to the self-help genre. It is written in a conversational style that is engaging. Many examples of situations that other teens are dealing with are included and help the reader understand how to apply the skills being discussed. There is important information about knowing when to seek professional help and the differences between mental health professionals. The skills being taught are mostly cognitive-behavioral in nature. I appreciate how the authors normalize the feelings teens have and show them how they can stay safe. As a child psychologist I highly recommend this book.
I am very excited to use this book with the female teens that I work with. Suicidal and suicidal thoughts are topics that are challenging to talk about due to stigma, fear, and concern. Helping teens learn about to identify, discuss, and manage these thoughts if they have them helps bridge the gap between fear and feeling understood.

This book contains excellent tips and techniques to identify suicide risk as well as tips to prevent them. This is a must have for homes with teens and schools. Unfortunately the number of suicides is increasing drastically. We must do all that is necessary to help as many teens and youth that we can. Text or call 988 for assistance.
