The first 2/3 to 3/4 of the book was really good. I enjoyed the romance and the mystery part of it. The reveal of Ava’s dad was very well done. There was so much to like about it but the last little bit started to turn into stalker territory. I think that end could have been dealt with a little differently for sure and it dragged out the story past where it needed to end.
Ana Huang is becoming a fast favorite. With a story that can be dark, funny, spicy and sappy, you get a little dose of everything and all the feels in one read. Her Twisted Series is a tour of all these things and Twisted Love is a great piece of the set!
Loved this book!! Ana Huang's book are fun reads with great characters, witty dialogue and tons of spice!
But I will continue to finish the series
Specially that I’m hyped about ryhs Larsen and Christian harper
And now I’m scared cuz I was hyped the same way about alex and now look where we are
Umm. Just...no. I kept hearing about this book on various bookish social media platforms. I suppose as brain candy it's an amusing read. But, the writing and concepts are unbelievable. Even leaving the lack of realism behind, the enemies-to-lovers/grumpy-sunshine concept is bizarre. This is a book you read to be amused and repulsed, not by the plot, but by the writing and situations. Every new character presented was even more of a strange cliche.
This series has been incredibly popular so I was interested in what it was all about. Love the update to the covers - much more appealing. Ana is a great romance author.
This book reminded me of a soap opera in the cheesy way that everything is overdramatic. Alex could have been a good character but his over the top need for "vengeance" was just to much for me. Ava was to good to be true. I never felt the chemistry.
This was such a fun grumpy/sunshine trope with such a strong attitude of ‘who did this to you’? And I loved every minute of it. I really enjoyed the plot of this book and ate up every little guilty moment of this, and it had plenty of great spicy scenes. Such a fun, quick read!
"You are the light to my dark, sunshine. Without you, I’m lost.”
I really liked this book! Definitely a great start to the series. It’s funny, I’ve seen a few reviews for this book and people didn’t like it so much as the rest of the books in this series, but I actually really liked this one a lot! Alex is Ava‘s brother’s best friend. When Ava‘s brother, Josh, leaves the country for his work, Josh asks Alex to watch over Ava for him. Not only does he watch over Ava, but he moved in next-door to her! I loved how Ava wouldn’t take no for an answer from Alex. Alex is very grumpy and cold hearted but that just gives Ava a challenge. I loved how she slowly cracked Alex‘s walls. My heart’s wound when Alex volunteered to help Ava swim. She’s had a fear ever since she drowned as a child, and I love how patient he was with her. There’s a bit of a mystery to this book, and the few scenes were quite dark, but it just added to the overall story. I loved every steamy moment of this book. Alex is very bossy with Ava and is the same way in the bedroom as well! I loved how Ava did not stop fighting to show Alex that he’s deserving of love. Their relationship was a sweet one!
Read if you like:
Dual POVs
Brother’s best friend
Neighbors to lovers
Opposites attract
Grump x Sunshine
Open door romance
A bit of dark romance
This wasn’t my favourite by Ana Huang. I found the pacing of this one was a bit odd and a lot of development of the relationship between Alex and Ava was missed.
There is a ton of buzz surrounding this series so I was excited to give Twisted Love, book 1, a go.
There were definitely elements to this book that I liked, but overall it read like a Fifty Shades of Grey fanfic book. Angsty billionaire not capable of love and obsessed to the point of being stalkerish.
Alex is an elusive successful businessman. Doesn't kiss on the mouth. Doesn't fall in love. Brooding and grumpy. & really likes to refer to women as sluts.
Ava is Alex's best friend's little sister. & the sunshine to his grump. Literally. When he's not calling Ava a slut he's calling her "sunshine."
A forbidden relationship. Messed up family dynamics. Lies and deceit. All added up it just didn't work for me, but if the template isn't repeated I'd be open to giving book two of the series a shot. If grump vs sunshine & TONS of spice are your thing...this book might be just what you're looking for.
Thank you to Sourcebooks, Bloom Books and NetGalley for a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are my own. 3.5 stars
I have been hearing about these books for so long and I am so glad I got to finally read them, and better yet, marathon them. These are a bit darker than the romances I am used to but I still enjoyed them very much. I love these characters and I cannot wait for more Ana Huang in the future!
Reading from Ava’s POV broke my heart sometimes. Seeing how much she just wanted to feel complete and remember everything made me feel so much for her. I am so proud of the woman she became and I hope to see her in future Ana books!
I guess I can kind of see the appeal...sorta.
This was so awful, the writing, the plot, the dialog, all of it. The only way I would forgive how bad this book was if I found out it was written by a 6th grader.
In Twisted Love we follow Ava Chen as she navigates her final year of university. Her brother has just moved to Central America as part of his medical fellowship and had asked his best friend Alex Volkov to keep an eye on Ava. As she runs into him more often Ava discovers her feeling towards Alex. But he isn’t a sweet romantic. Alex is hard and cold which draws Ava in even more. Alex also helps Ava overcome her aquaphobia and while walking near the lake at her family’s house Ava remembers some frightening childhood memories.
There wasn’t really any aspect of this novel that spoke to me. The plot was all over the place just trying to check off boxes. Both characters had a troubled past. Ava had amnesia and can’t remember chunks of her childhood. Alex is seeking revenge but we don’t know on who. He is also dark and mysterious and doesn’t do vanilla in the bedroom. But none of this was written well.
Alex witnessed some horrific things done to his family when he was a child and vowed to get vengeance. He keeps saying how he’ll get vengeance and he is vengeance. With his mantra and with his very successful business making him very wealthy you cannot convince me that Alex is not Batman.
The dialogue is this book also leaves something to be desired. Some lines were so awkward it made me wonder what the author was trying to get at. One of the lines I have the most grievance with was “She was naked as the day she was born.” Right before they were about to have a spicy scene. Why would Alex be thinking about new born baby’s right before sex. It just left me feeling icky.
I can see how many people enjoy this book. Unfortunately it just wasn’t for me and I won’t be continuing with the series.
I really enjoyed reading Twisted Love. Throughout most of the book I was obsessed and could not stop reading, I read nearly half the book in one sitting as soon as I downloaded it. It has a great romance, it's written well, and it let me escape into a fun story. I liked Ava's character, and how snarky she got with Alex despite being super nice to everyone else because he puts on such a cold face. She just would not put up with it, and I was here for it. I also very much love the brothers best friend trope, so I was here for that too, as well as how much effort he put into helping her believe in herself and her own ability. For me this one had a little bit more of a mafia vibe to it without really being mafia, because of course, Alex is a business man. The only thing I wasn't much of a fan of was the ending. All romance books (especially when they get into darker territory) are typically bound to have at least some toxicity, but I wasn't a particular fan of the way they worked out their relationship in the end for this one. I can't really explain more without spoiling it, but I do now that a lot of people I've talked to about this book aren't nearly as bothered by it as I was, so that could just be me. I would still absolutely recommend this book regardless though!
Grade A Trash, there is absolutely nothing of substance to this series, but its an ok jump from spicy rom coms to smut. Just hope the readers don't get stuck here and request better books.
This book is not going to be for everyone. I liked it, it’s very entertaining. It’s filled with tropes which I love but I know some people aren’t goi g to love this.

I'll be honest I felt torn between leaving a two star review and a three star review. I really enjoyed Ava's perspective in the novel. It felt real and it was written very well. However, I found myself heavily struggling to enjoy Alex's point of view. His perspective felt fake between the "I'm not like other men. Other men only think with their d***s, while I think with my brain (which is a d**k) and the I hate you-I love you plot. I just really couldn't get behind the story.
Alex reluctantly agrees to look out for his best friend’s sister while he’s away. She and her friends decide to try and elicit some emotional reaction from the seemingly unflappable Alex which brings Ava into increasingly close contact with him. Their fascination with each other grows until, of course, they finally give in to the attraction. Both characters have significant unresolved traumas in their pasts but it’s the secrets that Alex has been keeping that threaten to tear them apart.
The books in Ana Huang’s Twisted series all follow a few of the same patterns. Strong alpha males who don’t believe in or desire love all meet their matches and find love with women who are seemly off limits to them. Huang does a good job of building the sexual tension but I’m not a fan of her coarser style of sex scenes. I read a lot of romance and I’m not a prude, but I just didn’t find them believable given what we knew of the characters and their relationship. That said, I’m always happy to see an alpha male brought to his knees by love.
This wasn't my type of book but I know it would be others favorite! Maybe I'll try reading it again someday.
