Robin Bielman is a new-to-me author, and The Matchmaker and the Cowboy is the second book in her Windsong series, and having not read the first book in the series, it took a bit of time to get to sort out who was who, but in no way did it hamper my enjoyment of this sweet, sexy and lovely small town romance, which gets 4 stars from this reader.
Callie is back in the small town of Windsong after providing humanitarian aid in Africa for the past 6 months, only to find that although notified of her impending arrival, her parents and sister seem to have forgotten about her, as usual, are having their house renovated, and are off on another humanitarian mission, so that there's no place for Callie to stay, at least until Hunter Owens saves his adorable 8-year-old niece, Jenna, and in so doing, gets bitten by a black widow spider, has a bad reaction to the antivenin, and needs someone to stay with him, and keep an eye on him for the next two weeks--that person in Callie, and the place is on the sofa in his bunkhouse.
Hunter has had a serious crush on Callie her since the first time he met her, but thanks to her getting repeatedly burned in past relationships, and the bad example set by Callie's dysfunctional parents' relationship, she has decided to never, ever, get married--and this is a case of "methinks she doth protest too much," since it's clear that these two characters are quite simply perfect for one another, but Callie is too gun shy to see it.
Hunter is quite a flirt, and gorgeous--so handsome in fact that the women in town practically throw themselves at his feet. Callie refuses to be one of them, but the two really get to know one another during Hunter's recovery, and he's known for some time that he wants Callie as his wife, but he fears that if he tells her how he feels, she'll run--which is exactly what she does, however, before he even admits it, she's not opposed to having sex with the man, as often as possible, and this disconnect, and Callie's inability to see that Hunter truly loved her, and that she loved him back, was the reason for my 4-star rather than 5-star review.
Callie's real love is designing and sewing, especially wedding, bridesmaid and maid of honor dresses, and she's opening her own business in the quaint little town. She's gotten a reputation as the Marry Matchmaker, since her last six maid of honor dresses have led to the women wearing them finding the loves of their lives shortly thereafter. When Hunter is asked to serve as best man at his brother's wedding, he asks Callie to design and make his suit for the wedding, hoping that her magic will work when he wears it and he'll finally get over his love for Callie and find someone else. Will it work? You'll just have to read this well-written, charming, small town romance to find out for yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and yes, I plan to backtrack and read the first novel in this series.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
Callie designs and makes dresses for weddings. She is dubbed the Marry Matchmaker after women wearing the maid of honor dresses she sews have gone on to get engaged. Callie doesn't see marriage in her own future based on watching her parents marital history. Hunter has always had Callie in his heart. This is their story.
Thank you to Robin Bielman for sending me a gifted copy of this book! I absolutely loved Callie and Hunt's story so much. I loved the feeling of chosen and found family and I loved how heartfelt it was. It was great to see this book set among the wedding of Kennedy and Maverick since readers saw their story unfold in book one. Hunter was so so swoony and I thought it was great to watch him continually fall for Callie. I thought the idea of the magical dresses was so much fun and it really tied in Callie's personality. This book was so sweet and I could read small town romance any day of the week. Robin really nailed this one and I think I liked this even more than The Wedding Crasher and the Cowboy which is wild because I truly loved that one too. Overall this was so cute and I would not be opposed to more Windsong love stories.
Warm, romantic and different, in the very best way. This author has woven more than a hint of magic through the pages. I absolutely adored it!
Having a secret crush on his sister best friend, Hunter finally has his chance to see if it will be more or if it is only one sided. Callie comes home after six months in Africa doing volunteer work. Coming home after a bad breakup and no family to welcome her back to Windsong. Actually no house even to crash in. Her best friend Nova has the perfect solution. Her brother Hunter was bitten by a black widow spider and needs someone to watch over him. Not exactly happy with the situation but really hasn’t any other options she crashes on Hunter’s couch. Slowly they get to know each other better and there are some sparks, but Callie comes with some baggage. Trying to start her business that has her getting a moniker as a matchmaker with her maid of honor dresses. Family that always seems to forget she is around and parents that have the on again, off again relationship. Surely not a role model for love.
I love the characters, the dialogue between Hunter and Callie was very good. Beware there are steamy parts. Definitely can be read as a standalone. Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #TheMatchmakerandtheCowboy
Oh my goodness, Hunter is my new favorite book boyfriend. He is so wonderful! He is so sweet and caring to everyone around him. He is lots of flirty fun but also dependable. I was completely gone for him in the first few pages, and I wondered why Callie couldn't see how amazing he was. As the story progressed, I could understand why she was so reluctant to get to know him. She was so used to being let down by people she cared about, she had to limit that number to something she could handle. As they spend time together, she begins to see how wonderful he really is, but can she let go of her fears?
I had a hard time putting this book down. The opening chapter wasn't like anything I had read before, and the next several chapters added in other new elements. Hunter and Callie have great banter and amazing chemistry, but Callie also has terrific relationships with other women in town. I loved reading about Kennedy and Maverick's wedding and the appearances by previous characters. This was an excellent and unique read all the way around.
Book 2 of the Windsong series.
I really enjoyed Callie and Hunter’s story! I actually caught myself smiling and laughing as I read this. An unexpected bite from a black widow spider for Hunter led to him being cared for by and a homeless Callie. Callie has returned from Europe and has nowhere to stay. Her best friend’s brother needs someone to look after him while he recovers from the poisonous bite. Callie is known for making beautiful dresses for bridesmaids and includes a special good luck charm to each piece. Hunter is going to be the best man at his brothers’s wedding and asks Callie to make his suit. She’s torn over whether or not to add her special charm to his suit because she doesn’t know if she wants to see him matched up with anyone but her.
A charming and sweet second chance romance. Lots of family issues also, some good and others strained. As usual I skipped over the amorous activities. An engaging couple. A delightful young girl adds to the tale. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Callie Carmichael moved back to Windsong after being in Africa. She had her heart broken so she has swore off of men. But when she gets there she is asked to look after Hunter the most eligible bachelor in town.
Hunter’s niece Jenna was about to touch a black widow spider but instead it nails Hunter so he is extremely sick and needs help taking care of himself. Hunter is a cowboy and Callie is a dressmaker. She specializes in bridesmaids dresses and her maid of honor dresses carry some magical abilities because the person wearing them seems to find true love rather quickly.
Callie had been in a terrible horse accident and was really frightened by them but can Hunter persuade her to trust again in all aspects of life.
Jenna was a hoot with all of her sayings and I especially loved the hot chocolate crusade. This is the second book in this series but could be a standalone in my opinion. Great book.
I received this ARC from Netgalley for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Matchmaker And The Cowboy is a charming and enjoyable romance.
Callie is back in Windsong after months volunteering in Africa, when she arrives at her family's house she finds out that her family is away and the house is under renovation. Fortunately her best friend finds a place for her to stay, the only drawback is that she has to share the place with her best friend's brother and take care of him. Hunter has always had a crush on Callie but she never gave him a chance, but maybe staying in the closer quarters of his house something could change her opinion of him.
I adored to see Callie and Hunter relationship changing slowly, staying closer they can finally know each other better.
Callie doesn't feel appreciated by her family and her parents didn't set the best exemple for a loving relationship, she doesn't want a man in her life but staying away from Hunter is very difficult.
Hunter is the sweetest and the most stubborn man of the world, he pained so much after Callie but he never put aside his feelings for her.
Together they are irresistible I couldn't put their story on hold even for a few hours.
Robin Bielman delivered a good, entertaining story, she perfectly captured the essence of small town living. The close relationship among the towners is delightful, it was fun catching up with the already known characters and meeting new ones.
This is a good read for all small town trope lovers.
Good read! Callie has given up on finding love. Handsome cowboy Hunter makes her wish for things she did not think were possible. The secondary characters and small town setting make this one special. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this story very much. I was well into it and thinking the characters seemed familiar when a reference was made to the past and I realized I had read a previous book by this author. The characters are all fun and a bit quirky. The Story line is a fun one as the Marry Matchmaker designs maid of honor dresses with a butterfly hidden somewhere. The maids of honor are all finding there true love after wearing one of her dresses. In the current wedding she is asked to also make the best man’s suit. Will it work for him to find true love? Callie and Hunter have known each other for years as she is his sister’s best friend. She comes to town and needs a place to stay; Hunter has been bitten by a black Widow spider and needs someone to nurse him back to health. Callie agrees to stay with him but will more than their tentative friendship develop? Or will he find his true love after wearing a Marry Matchmaker suit? A fun, easy read with humor as well as serious parts as characters deal with actions and fears related to their past. I give it a 5 of 5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Callie Carmichael just returned home from Africia. She has nowhere to stay and ends up at her best friend brother's home. Hunter Owens has been bitten by a black widow spider and is recovering and needs someone to watch over him for a while.
Hunter has always had a love for Callie; but she doesn't know it. Callie thinks Hunter is just a player.
Callie makes brides maid dress and sews butterflies into the dresses and are sure to bring true love to the wearer. She's just opened her new shop and Hunter asked her to make his best man's suit for his brother's wedding; hoping it will make Callie fall for him.
If you read the first book you know there is a wedding approaching for the Owens family. I really liked the story line; but the book seemed a little long at times. Overall, a good story.
Thank you to Net Galley, the author, and publisher for providing this book for my honest review. This is such a cute and fun small town romance. I really enjoyed this one. It’s a friends to lovers romance full of swoon worthy moments, sweet moments, and even some humorous moments. I highly recommend this one. It’s a fast and fun read and will leave you smiling. Thank you again to Net Galley, the author, and publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this heartwarming book.
A quick read that has some quirky and interesting characters that you can envision being real life people. Finding true love is on most people's list but it's so hard to find and if you 're lucky enough to find it being available emotionally to accept it is a whole other story.
“The Matchmaker and the Cowboy” by Robin Bielman
DREAMING !!
As the book-blurb says: Callie has sworn off love AND marriage for herself while cheering on the rest of her world in their finding love and marriage. Hunter is the wild card with a long-time dream of his own. I enjoyed my time in this story: smiled, maybe even chuckled, and did shed a tear or two. I found this story hard to put down; although I will admit I skipped over the sizzling scenes (just not my cup of tea). This is a stand-alone story in the Windsong series. Happy Reading ! !
NOTE: This review expresses my honest opinion.
I received an ARC of this story from the publisher via NetGalley.
The Matchmaker and The Cowboy is such a cute read. Callie is a sweetheart and a talented dress maker. You feel for her when it comes down to her family dynamics and now that she has come home. Hunter will steal your heart and not let go. He is a fantastic uncle and has loved Callie forever. I love the chemistry between Hunter and Callie when they are thrown together. There is something really magical about Callie's creations that have you believing in the magic of love. There are these beautiful moments shining down on love that will make you feel so gooey even as Callie fights her happily ever after. I could not get enough of Hunter and Callie in this one. I loved this one so much. Go one click this now.
Callie is just back from overseas and finds her home inhabitable. With no other choice she agrees to move in with Hunter and take care of him, while he is recovering from a spider bite.
This was such a cute friends to lovers romance. Hunter is the towns most eligible bachelor, but gets adorably awkward in front of Callie. It was too cute. And their chemistry was pretty intense. This was a fun romance, with some adorable moments and exciting chemistry. So far this has been an enjoyable series and I look forward to reading more.
What a great surprise! I started this story and it was pretty hard to put back down. The story had just enough of all the "most have" elements, family, quick wit, fun and a bold gesture of love.
This made want to read the other stories and to know what happens with Hunter's sister. The author did a great job at giving the supporting details just enough to make us love them (especially birdie) without taking the focus away from triple C and Hunter.
Also, I enjoyed how "normal" the story is. Perfect for the reader that doesn't need the rollercoaster ride to commit to the journey.
The Matchmaker and the Cowboy is a charming friends-to-lovers contemporary romance with a wonderful setting, great characters, and a swoon-worthy romance. As soon as I saw Hunter’s middle name, I knew this was the book for me. (Hint: It’s a name from Star Wars) The story follows Callie Carmichael, a talented dressmaker with a growing reputation for making magical maid of honor dresses that help the wearer find a spouse. Recently returned to Windsong, Callie is shocked to find her home unlivable and her family gone. Luckily, her best friend’s family needs help and offers her a place to say.
Hunter Owens, the town’s most eligible bachelor is recuperating from a spider bite and needs care. He’s shocked when he wakes up and sees his long-time crush has been charged with the task. They are both such fantastic characters, and I love how their relationship develops. Though they’re not on the same page when it comes to commitment and feelings about love, Callie and Hunter have a lot in common. They’re both trying to prove something to themselves and others, they are both kind and generous and caring, and they both love their charming small town. I love that they connect on such a deep level after being in the perimeter of each other’s lives for so long. I think Callie really gets to see a different side of Hunter than she’s ever seen before, and it definitely changes her feelings toward him.
I also like that they both help each other in such profound ways. Hunter helps Callie with her fear of horses which she’s had since falling off a horse and breaking her back as a teen. He also supports her designing dreams, and they maintain a healthy competition when they run for the same position in town. Callie also helps care for Hunter while he’s recuperating from a black widow spider bite. They see each other at their most vulnerable, and I think this strengthens the connection between them.
The romance between Callie and hunter is positively swoon-worthy. Hunter pines for Callie, and I loved every second of it. He’s the most eligible bachelor in town, but he only has eyes for Callie, and he is charmingly awkward and tongue-tied around her. It’s so sweet! Of course, Callie doesn’t notice, and that just adds to the angst. They have amazing chemistry, which only grows as the story progresses, and their sexy scenes are pretty hot! Plus, their wonderfully tender and romantic scenes balance out their love story well.
The secondary characters are as dynamic as Callie and Hunter, and I love learning what’s going on at the ranch and with the characters from the previous books in the series. There’s a lot of excitement in the lives of this amazing family, including weddings, babies, and new business ventures. And Hunter’s niece Jenna is so adorable! Callie’s family contrasts Hunter’s well. Where hers is selfish and absent and often forgets about Callie or prioritizes their own interests over her, Hunter’s family is close-knit and devoted to each other. Luckily, Callie has a wonderful found family, which includes a feisty octogenarian (love her!), Hunter’s sister, and the rest of Hunter’s family to compensate for what she’s lacking in her own family.
We also meet several new characters, and I’m eager to see what roles they’ll have in future books. I’m really curious about Hunter’s sister and her mystery man. It’s hinted about in this book, and I have a feeling (or maybe I’m just hoping) that we’ll learn more about that soon!
I’m enjoying this series. It has great characters, a wonderful family, tons of small-town charm, and swoon-worthy, steamy romances. You really can’t go wrong with a Robin Bielman contemporary romance! Thanks to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own
