As ever, Angus Donald has written yet another historical fiction winner. I don’t think he’s ever missed a beat with any of his books. Time after time he consistently delivers top quality novels.

The Loki Sword is the 3rd book featuring Bjarki the Beserker. The book follows Bjarki as he heads north to follow a prophecy that might lead to a mystical sword, and a throne.

As always, the book is packed full of thrilling battle scenes, a dotted with witty dialogue. The author brilliant weaves historical fact with Norse mythology, and delivers a page turner that doesn’t disappoint. I cant wait for book 4 later this year.

This third instalment in the Fire Born saga sees our intrepid trio - Bjarki, Tor and Valtyr - go in search of the famed Loki Sword. The epic takes place around Silesia and Prussia, with their enemies - the Black Cloaks - or Franks, hard on their heels at every turn. Will our adventurers and their motley band succeed in their quest or fall victim to betrayal and conspiracy?

As usual, Angus Donald imbues his books in the history and mythology of the period, creating an insight into 8th Century northern European world, whilst at the same time, propelling (and projecting) the reader, full body, into the story.

Ah, Angus Donald. An author who never fails to deliver, fun and character driven adventures. He is a classy writer so you know before the first page is turned that it will be good and you will be entertained.
This is the third in his Viking series featuring Berserker Bjarki and his sister Tor. Bjarki is the lead character but he is a bit of a blunt instrument and Tor is the one who often carries the story. Set during the 8th century and in Eastern Europe the Christian Franks are keen to wipe out non believers. Bjarki and Tor decide to join a quest for a famous relic, “Loki’s Sword”. To be clear this is not a fantasy but those were times of myths and legends so Mr Donald has baked this in as background while also wrapping it around historical events.
This is such a fun series, deserves a wider audience and we are lucky that more have been commissioned.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Loki sword. The story kept me turning those pages without pause. The way the scenery and the route taken are described, it makes you feel that you are there with them on their journey. The way the story and the characters personalities and their actions to some scenes were written, made it seem more real than exaggerated. I highly recommend this book and I will definatly be reading more books wrote by this author

Bjarki is an absolute monster of a character and it’s often difficult to emphasise or dislike and to be honest by the end of this excellent book I could not really say where my sympathy lay, that aside it’s a superb mix of folklore, historical content and blood and gore. Wonderful

This is a mix of myth, fantasy, and historical fiction. I like how the author mix the different elements delivering a gripping and highly entertaining story.
This is another action packed and fast paced novel, I thoroughly enjjoyed it even it I didn't read the second instalment.
An epic quest according to my heart.

I enjoyed The Loki Sword. Being Swedish I enjoy the folklore and this was a great combination of fiction, folklore, and a touch of history.

Angus Donald has knocked it out of the park with this book. I was taken straight back to this world from the very first page, totally consumed by it and didn't come up for air until it was finished.
