This was a fun mix of the genres of women's fiction and rom-com. A light, fun, family centered, multi-cultural and overall enjoyable book. As we were introduced to the characters the storyline was a bit slow but the storyline started moving along about one-third of the way through the book and moved at a steady pace throughout the rest of the book.
As we learn more about the main characters of Nadia and Marcos it is easy to see they are characters that deserve to be happy but have a hard time putting themselves first in their lives. They are both dealing with a lot in their lives at this time and they have to learn to help themselves before they can help each other.
I enjoyed Marisol Ramirez's narration of this audiobook. She did a wonderful job keeping my attention by conveying the emotions of the characters through her voice.
This was a cute lighthearted book with likeable characters. I am grateful to Netgalley and RB Media for the opportunity to listen to this fun audiobook in exchange for a honest review.

This audiobook was perfect. What was great was getting to hear some accents for some of the cousins from abroad. I love how this flowed and told the story beautiful. Finally an adult title from a beloved children's author in my home. I wanted to throw myself a double quince and never did, it was fun reading about someone who did.

I honestly had a hard time with this book. This is one of those romances where I wish everyone would just get therapy and not find love. We start with a heartbreaking scene of a daughter calling off her wedding and her family turning on her. We then get a hero who is actively grieving his mom. I cannot take it. The narrator also has a bit of a depressed voice so it just made the book feel heavy.

A cute coming of age story but overall fairly boring and predictable. I would’ve liked something a bit more - not a girl changing just because a guy denied her

I'd like to thank record books for sending me an audio arc of the book through NetGalley.

Twice a quinceanera is a book that's about finding yourself and reconnecting to your identity with a romance subplot.

Narrator
I really enjoyed the narration of the book, we have a clear distinction of voices, and the emotions really power through her voice. The Australian accent could use some help but it didn't necessarily bother me.

The Characters

Nadia
Nadia is an accomplished lawyer who finally decides to dump her cheating fiance and repurpose the venue for a double quince because she never ended up having a quinceanera of her own. It's hard not to like her as a character because she's extremely human and has a strong voice throughout the text. I loved how she sort of blossoms into a self-sufficient individual who while falling in love with Marcos also has developed a stronger sense of self.

Marcos
Of the two of the main characters, Marcos was definitely a more rounded character. I liked that he didn't typically fall into the hypermasculine macho hero stereotype that a lot of brown love interests are put into. He's a very layered character and basically your perfect love interest.

The Plot
I think the only thing the story had going for it was the diversity and the representation. Don't get me wrong this isn't me saying that this had nothing else to offer. It's a good story, but a predictable one. I guessed most of the plot twists and by the end was a little bored with the book. It's been 2 days since I finished the book and I've already forgotten the Fiance's name.

Conclusion
Twice A Quinceanera is a fun beach read or something to keep you occupied during the commute but overall it feels like a very average and forgettable read.

Twice a Quinceañeara was a cute romcom, but I had a really difficult time "getting into it". It got to the point where I was forcing myself to open the book and read a chapter before bed. The pacing really picked up and it became less of a chore to read around the halfway point, but that is still half of the book I didn't like. I adored Nadia's family and they truly saved this title from a lower rating. Unless you are a hardcore romance fan, I wouldn't recommend reading this one.

Nadia is about to get married just a day before her 30th birthday. She has been planning for this wedding for years and is shocked to see her fiancé cheating on her weeks before the wedding. She immediately throws him out of the apartment.
Now she has a wedding all set up but no groom. She decides not to be sad about it but use this party as a way to celebrate herself with her family, a second Quinceañera or Treintañera.

Love Yamile Saied Mendez's first adult romance! I love the specificity of the setting and the clever setup for TWICE A QUINCEAÑERA. It's such a great idea to have a woman celebrate her own accomplishments rather than a marriage. I love a second chance romance and this was well-done, too. Loved the big families and the world explored in the book. It felt like it would translate well to a TV/Film adaptation. The narrator was great as well.

This one as a joy to listen to. Nadia has been jilted as the final touches to her wedding is being planned and when she reads an article in a magazine about a 30th birthday party being turned into a twice quinceanera she knows this is what she needs to turn her reception into, after all, it is set for her 30th birthday and her entire family is coming from Argentina and she never had a quinceanera when she was 15. When she goes to the venue to meet with the planner, she doesn't meet with the elderly gentleman she had before, but his son and he turns out to be her boyfriend from college, Marcus. She has always wondered what happened to him. He has come home to help his family's business and even though this idea may be a bit outside what they usually do, he agrees, and when his mom finds out she is overjoyed. Watching these two find their way again was wonderful and watching Nadia find her way was special.

Fun little rom-com. Very predictable but still a fun listen.

This was such a lighthearted story, and it just made me feel happy! When a wedding falls apart, but everything is booked…why not throw yourself a Double Quinceañera!

This had a nice mix of rom-com and women’s fiction, which is something that I am continuing to love more and more! This definitely a love interest, and it’s a bit of a second-chance, but this also has the storyline of the growth and changes that our MC goes through. Nadia has a lot of family pressure and expectation, and it’s a really high bar to reach for. I felt frustrated at times for her, but I enjoyed watching the story and her inner strength grow!

I did start to feel a bit overwhelmed by the number of family members. I could have handled a few less scenes and people, but it wasn’t such an issue that it impacted my rating. Just know that there are a lot at times.

Overall, I would recommend this to readers who are looking for a story with some character struggles and growth moments and some sweet romance.

Thank you to the publishers, NetGalley, and the author for the free copy of this audiobook.

I struggled to get into this one and DNFed the audiobook. I am in a romance mood but did not connect with it. I do hope to check out another from this author in the future.

I had to sit on this book for quite some time before leaving a review.
The book is nice, the concept fascinating, but it somehow lacks the spark, the magic of romance.

I really enjoyed the female MC, she is finally standing up for herself and she doesn't hurt anybody in doing so, which is something that happens quite often in these books. I loved the second-chance aspect and I loved the male MC, especially with him being so unsure of his worth, I love me some broken MMC. I loved how her family came together to support her, even though they all come from different backgrounds and beliefs. I even cried a little bit!

The book left me a unsatisfied, the writing and the style weren't really engaging or captivating. In the end, two weeks after finishing the book I'm not left with much and I hasn't really stayed with me, and that's unfortunate!

3.5-4 stars. I enjoyed this listen (audiobook)! It leans more women's fiction than romance but cute story overall. The pace was a bit off which is why it also adds to more women's fiction than romance. This won't be everyone's cup of tea but great Latinx representation, interesting family dynamics, cute story. Bit slow at times, good second chance, and a fun Latin party!

Twice a Quinceañera is the first novel venture in the adult genre for award winning young adult author Yamile Saied Mendez. This book is the story of Nadia Palacios, young attorney planning her wedding in a month to her long time boyfriend, spoiled, entitled Brandon. But then he does the unforgivable and she kicks him to the curb.

However, Nadia has her dream wedding planned at her dream venue and it is prepaid with no refund. Nadia had already paid, only Nadia as Brandon had no skin in the game. On the morning that Nadia breaks this to her family she discovers a magazine in the bathroom with an article regarding celebrating the treintañera, or second quinceañera, a celebration she had missed out on the first time around. It is now time to celebrate herself and her accomplishments.

So Nadia heads to the rural venue to meet with the owner to change the tone of her event. After all, there are also nonrefundable flights for family members across the world and she wants to be sure they have a special party to attend. She may expect a little push back as it is a wedding venue but what she doesn’t expect is that the person running the venue is her summer college fling, Marcos “Rocket” Hawkins. Marcos is eager to make Nadia happy, both for the way he left things and the bottom line of the business.

This is such a good read! I very much enjoyed this lovely story. And also loved learning about celebrations from different cultures, even though my South Florida upbringing gave me a little insight. I so enjoyed this book and wholeheartedly recommend it!

You’ve heard of the quinceanera but have you heard of a treintanera?!?!

Twice A Quinceanera is the story of Nadia who calls off her wedding but Instead of cancelling all the vendors she opts to turn lemons into lemonade. As a successful lawyer she throws her own party to celebrate herself. But she has to convince her family and friends that this was the right decision.

I loved Furia so much so I was excited to read this book by the same author, Yamile Saied Mendez. Although I love this premise (strong female protagonist) it just didn’t move me. Sometimes a second chance romance doesn’t give enough back story to give the couple chemistry….this was particularly true of this book. The romance is only a small aspect and there is very little steam. I had trouble holding my attention with this one. If you like second chance romance and quinceaneras this may be the book for you.

Thank you to @netgalley and @kensingtonbooks for the ALC!

What do you do when you break off your engagement weeks before the wedding? You throw yourself a party to celebrate all you have accomplished. Loved the narrator. Quick listen.
