A little mixed with this story…..Nadia dumps her fiancée weeks before the wedding. Only everything is to late to cancel with a refund and family and friends are flying in from all over. Seeing about a second Quinceanera and never having a first, plus her 30th birthday is the day after the so called wedding, why not celebrate her life and achievements? Trying to switch everything from wedding to party she meets up with the wedding venue planner who happens to be Marcus. A college fling she had and never really forgot about.
Both characters are working through several issues, but I was having trouble keeping all the relatives straight. Maybe it’s just me and having trouble with the few parts of Spanish, but overall the author did keep it at a minimum. I did listen to the audiobook and the narrator was fantastic! Kept the Spanish flare and the story moving. Pretty much a typical HEA and a good way to spend a few hours enjoying. Rounded up to 4 stars ⭐️
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #NetGalley #Twice a Quinceanera.
This was okayish.
It felt more like YA and reads that way start to finish.
I found it hard to connect with a 30 year old who's conversations felt more like a 16 year old was conducting them. I think I would have enjoyed this more if the character was at least a decade younger, but alas, the story doesn't work if she isn't 30.
Thanks to NetGalley and RB Media for my DRC.
Nadia jilts her cheating fiancé too late to get back the deposits on her wedding reception. So instead, she decides to throw herself a double quinceañera for her thirtieth birthday. She meets with the co-owner of the event venue, only to discover that he's the man who broke her heart in college. Will they get a second chance at romance?
This is a swoony, adorable, slow-burn romance. Despite the light-hearted tone, it's an emotional read. I enjoyed the multicultural elements and the audiobook narration.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Beautiful adult second chance romance from Yamile Saied Mendez. Love the family connections and the diversity shown in the book. Nadia’s journey is empowering and fun. Loved the book!
We meet Nadia, who just parted ways with he long time fiance, after years of unhappiness - the kicker - their wedding was only one month away! With a booked venue, the entire event paid for and her family flying in from South American, she pivots! She decides to throw herself a Quinceanera for her big 30! Mix this hoopla with a new fling, Marcos...and watch what unfolds. This book was OK but I didn't love it - though it had promise.
Thank you to RB Media, Recorded Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this audioARC
I really enjoyed this #ownvoices story about Nadia Palacio, an Argentinian American woman who calls off her wedding and decides to throw herself a double Quinceanera party instead. Part women's fiction, part second chance romance and hundred percent fun! This book is all about self-love and doing what you want despite societal (and familial) expectations. Recommended for fans of 30 things I love about myself by Radhika Sanghani. Much thanks to NetGalley and Kensington books for early digital copies in exchange for my honest review.

Tropes: second chance romance
I received this as an audio ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Nadia breaks up with her fiancé shortly before her wedding. He totally deserves every second of that break up. (P. S. I have never met a Brandon I like) and instead of losing all of the money she and her family put down on the wedding she decides to turn it into a second Quinceñera. Nadia is a strong female character but she has always felt a little removed from her dreams and life because she has just fallen into a path expected.
Marcos wants to prove his family wrong that he will not always run when it gets hard but will be able to stick through and help support the family business. When he runs into Nadia again he realizes that this is his second chance at making up to her.
I enjoyed a lot of this book and it made me feel so at home with the conversations about Mate tea! The narration was great.
I would recommend going into this book understanding that the romance is not the center of the book but more of a subplot.
Twice a Quinceañera was such a joy to read! Filled with self discovery, friendship, second chances, family, celebration and love it was a win for me! I really enjoyed how developed every character was/how well we got to know them as well as the details and background of the locations mentioned throughout. All in all a super fun and quick read with a unique plot!
Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Quick Review: A second chance at real love drama
My Review: Twice a Quinceanera was a beautifully written romantic drama. Its magic cast a spell over my heart. It was so much more than I had anticipated. I loved Nadia and Marcos. I was elated that they got their chance to make things work. (Love that is meant to be will always flourish. Their love was meant to be.)
Another wonderful aspect of this story had to do with family. I greatly appreciated the family bonds in this story. I really liked that the story allowed readers to see growth beyond the challenges that each lead character had to deal with, regarding family.
Scenes That I Loved:
- When Nadia took the moral high ground and chose integrity over position
- When the neighbor showed her support of Nadia's decision in such a verbal way (twice)
- When Nadia was trying on her dress before the females in her family
- When Nadia and Marcos "heard the snake"
- When Nadia and her mother shared the special gift moment
- The epilogue
My Final Say: The appeal of this particular women's fiction romance lay in the female lead, in my opinion. Nadia was so easy to relate to as a progressive, driven, family-oriented character. Her confidence, her patience and compassion, her strength and her spirit of perseverance were what made her stand out. More than a romance, I see this story as an indicator that a woman can have it all.

✨ Review ✨ Twice a Quinceañera by Yamile Saied Mendez; Narrated by Marisol Ramirez
After dumping her crummy fiancee weeks before her wedding, Nadia Palacio turns her wedding event into a double quinceañera, or trientañera, to celebrate herself. In this book, Nadia struggles with notions of self love, meets an old fling, and contemplates what she wants for herself moving forward. Her old fling, Marcos, (also in the family that runs the venue for her party) grapples with his past running away from those he loved as he embraces family and his future.
I really enjoyed this book, which I think was a book of self love more than a romance. The pacing was a little off for me I think, but I loved how it was a book about family and many different kinds of love!

[blurb]Nadia’s wedding is canceled, but the party is still on! You’re invited to a double quinces to celebrate her life and peek into a whole lot of family drama! When the venue owner turns out to be an old flame, can she trust her heart not to let her down again?
[review] I loved this book. It was a quick, fun read. I loved the woman forward aspect of it. I loved that she wanted to find herself and put herself forward. I have a soft spot for large, supportive families. I know they're not always what they're cracked up to be. But I romanticize them. And they hold a place in my heart. I love the growth arc. I love that she didn't wallow in bed and wait for a man. she pulled herself up and still went to her party!! Do your thing, woman!
If you love a good fun romance, and a wonderful woman power book this is the boook for you!
Thank you, Netgalley and RB books for this ARC audiobook.
Thank you, Yamile Saied Mendez for this adorable book.
Thank you, Marisol Ramirez for lending your voice to bring this book to life!
This celebration of family and self is a treat! Nadia is such a relatable character, a strong person struggling with low self esteem brought on by a bad relationship. Her journey of reconnecting with herself, indulging her suppressed desires, and rediscovering the support of family and friends is wonderful and sweet. There's a big cast of characters who play small parts, and to my surprise, I had no trouble keeping track of them all! to the point that I felt annoyed by the constant reminders of who each character is. Nadia's bisa is a treasure and I love her to pieces.
The world is full of details, like using the backdrop of religiously conservative Utah for a wedding business. The romance is my least favorite part - not because I didn't root for Nadia and Marcos, but because the romantic scenes they shared feel weak and rather corny. Marisol Ramirez has a lovely voice and did a wonderful job with the narration.
I know I've found a good book when I catch myself laughing and awwing out loud. There are so many characters I want to know more about, and I would love to see this book be the start of a series!
I wanted to like this book, the concept is so cute and I love more romances about Latine. I was super intrigued by the Mormon/Utah elements as well I honestly didn't even know there were Mormon Latinos... but the story was very slow and it failed to keep my interest and the continual use of interruptions so that the main characters didn't kiss or get physical was actually really annoying. Every other scene they were alone they would almost kiss and someone would call or interrupt or a passerby would shout from their car window for them to get a room... like I get wanting to write a squeaky clean book but there are other ways to amp up the tension without all of that.
