Wild is the Witch! And that she is! This book is listed as Sci-Fi but it held many more vibes in the Magical Realism genre for me. Iris is a young witch who is trying to find her place in the world of non magic people ...even though she is confident in her abilities and her powers, her passions and her true self. Griffin wrote a story so believable and full of magic. The depth of the characters and the details of the story will have you fully immersed and unable to put it down! It's funny, gripping, heartbreaking, real and raw while also light and beautiful.
Firstly, I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this eArc.
I'm disappointed to say that I didn't really like this book- there is a lot that bothered me. The main character made some awful decisions that were so incredibly dangerous- not just for herself but for everyone around her. Now, I like an enemies-to-lovers subplot, however it must be written carefully. This was more of a bully romance where the male love interest only harasses and bullies you because "he secretly likes you" which we should be past by now... I would probably go as far as to say every character bothered me in this book, the mother put her daughter in an incredibly dangerous situation and was too fixated on her own love-life to see the trouble the MC was in. The daughter refused to communicate vital pieces of information which put thousands of lives at risk.
(SPOILER)
You'd think after what they discussed in the beginning that the MC wouldn't be so quick as to repeat the same mistakes her friend made... but alas.
Let me start this review by saying this, Rachel Griffin is a fantastic writer. I will definitely look for more of her work in the future. Laura Knight Keating did an equally fantastic job narrating. Her voice was soothing to listen to, but not so much as to put me to sleep.
But the real reason for 3 stars is that I was totally bored. Ugh, I'm sorry! I wanted to love it, but it was so anti-climactic that I found myself just hoping it would end faster so I could be done with this book and move on. There wasn't a ton of magic, and the book is 90% them travelling through the forest and talking. I just could NOT get into it.
That being said, it really is beautifully written and if you want a pretty easy read/listen, check it out. Just because it wasn't 100% my cup of tea doesn't mean it won't be yours. :)
First things first, thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for providing me with an ALC in exchange for an honest review.
This story is an extremely fast listen, and incredibly immersive. The descriptions of the Pacific Northwest had me wanting to quit my job and move across the country in search of the vivid landscape described. While the romance portion of this book fell flat for me, I was intrigued by the search for the owl and the talk about Iris’s relationship with the other animals. I greatly appreciate the use of magic in relation to nature, and not something entirely supernatural. I look forward to reading Rachel Griffin’s other works in the future!
Witches, wolves, owls, and the Pacific Northwest? This book was like my heart in a book. I loved this book and will definitely owning a copy to reread. This was a very traditional YA love story with a lot of magical elements also the asthmatic rep! I myself have asthma and to have it in a book without any stigma or jokes about it made me so happy. This book was absolutely incredible and I loved every second of it. Probably my top read of the year so far!
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of the audiobook!
I didn't know much about this author or book beforehand, but this was SUCH a fun and entertaining story. Also, major props for the audiobook, the narration was VERY good and easy to follow.
The story is all around entertaining, I don't read YA a lot nowadays but this was so much fun, full of character and a pageturner (um, earturner?) for sure, I loved Iris as a character and her anxiety issues felt very real to me, and handled in a very respectful manner, the main couple was very fun, I felt really connected to both of them! Also: loved the PNW as a setting! This book felt like a warm blanket.
Also, there were owls in it. A major win for me
Rachel Griffin does it again!
I’m really into this influx of Witch centric paranormal romance and fantasy books.
•Pacific Northwest Setting
•MacGuffin Owl
•Enemies to Lovers
•Forced Proximity
•Trauma Bonding
•MAGIC
I thought Iris and Pike were charming. I love an over prepared boy scout type with a Subaru, and Iris’s anxiety and asthma spoke to my soul.
"The Nature of Witches" gave us a climate change cautionary tale, and “Wild is the Witch” gives us subliminal deforestation and wildlife preservation warnings.
Great YA Fantasy Romance!
I had the chance to listen to this title as an audiobook and blasted through it in a couple days. The story was very emersive and made me want to get lost in the woods. The characters felt very realistic with entire ranges of emotions. I really am loving the say Rachel Griffin writes her witches as stand alone stories giving you enough lore to build the world by focusing on the characters interacting with it.
I think today's YA Witches are the Vampires and Fey of my teen years, I love it, and honestly I'm jealous. The paranormal romance I had was usually ordinary girl, extraordinary guy, but these books give the females the power and magic!
Thank you @netgalley and RB Media for giving me the chance to listen to this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This was a great fast-paced Ya Fantasy read. I enjoyed the audio version of Wild is the Witch. I thought that Laura Knight Kneating did a great narrating . This was my first Rachel Griffin book and most likely wont be my last.
This story was simple, descriptive and beautifully witchy. Iris Gray a witch who accidentally puts curse on a boy named Pike. Now she must team up with him to stop this curse from unleashing on Pike and possibly the world.
My rating : 4 ⭐️
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for this audiobook for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book! I haven't read the first in the series so I was afraid I would be a little lost but I didn't notice any times where I felt lost. This was the first book I had read by this author but I will definitely be reading more by her! It was an immersive story about forgiveness and realistic magic (that might not be a thing but I just mean that I felt the magic was very believable to real life). I would definitely recommend this book to others.

This book checks ALL the boxes!
- Enemies to lovers
- There is only one bed (tent)!
- An adventure with a curse
- Animal sidekick
This was such a fun read! It was my first Rachel Griffin book and now I can't wait to pick up The Nature of Witches.
I love the fantasy genre - it is my favorite to read. Lately I have been trying to find standalone fantasy's I can read so that I am not committing to an unfinished series, but can still enjoy the genre. This is the perfect standalone fantasy for that! I loved this paranormal world. Everything is so descriptive and gives major Catherine Hardwicke, blue tinted Twilight (2008) vibes. IYKYK
RB Media was kind enough to provide an audio version for this book. The narrator was perfect for Iris and will draw you in. You'll want to finish this one in one sitting - trust me!
Wild is the Witch will be released August 2nd, and if it's not already on your tbr, it should be!

Special thanks to RB Media and NetGalley for sharing an arc with me in exchange for my honest opinions.
I went in to this audiobook cold as I had seen it around everywhere and wanted to read/listen to it. It is always a win for me when I can get any book on audio since I have a long drive to work.
I really really enjoyed this one and the premise. Iris is so kind and thoughtful and I absolutely loved her connection to the animals. Pike was probably my favorite character though as he was who I typically like in a love interest, brooding, sarcastic and witty with a warm center. A true cinnamon roll!
I loved Iris and Pike's relationship development as they went on this adventure together. Their ups and downs were really interesting to listen to and I loved the major theme around forgiveness and love.
The narrator was really good as well and I flew through this one! I would definitely recommend!
Read this if you like:
- One tent
- A playfully sarcastic, brooding LI
- A Connection to animals and healing
Such a fun fantasy story! I loved the characters. I was engaged from the first page. So many stories like this feel like copies of others, but this one felt fresh. I heard Rachel Griffin talk about it and definitely wanted to read it. I was not disappointed! I am the librarian in a middle school and it might be a little mature for them. That is the only reason we might not purchase it. But I will recommend it to our high school librarian.
Wild is the Witch is an elegantly written young adult contemporary fantasy romance with whimsical essence, greenwood tones, a natural magical system and a touch of romance. I absolutely adored this book, it truely is a warm-heartwarming bewitching read. And Pike was such a loveable character, I can’t get enough of him. 🥰
Wow! I loved the audiobook of this new YA novel that releases this Tuesday (8/2/2022). Wild is the Witch is a stand alone YA Fantasy that follows our main character Iris who is a witch but hides her identity from those around her. She loathes her coworker, Pike, and to ease her frustration she attempts makes a curse just for him that she never intends to cast. This is where everything goes wrong.
The result of her actions leads to her and Pike hiking through the woods, looking for an owl that has carried her curse away. The only problem is, Pike hates witches, and doesn't know he's currently with one, looking for a curse that was meant for him.
I really enjoyed the character development throughout this book. I found Iris and Pike to be lovable characters that were written with finesse. The magic system in this story was incredible and believable.
I appreciate that this is a stand alone novel as well. We don't get very many stand alone anymore, and it is refreshing to read a fun and quick witchy romance.
I have two main issues with this book. The first is that it is marketed as a YA novel. This book definitely reads on the older end of YA stretching into NA or adult fantasy territory. The second is that the main conflict of this book centers on our main character lying about who she is and what she has done. I appreciate her character growth throughout the book, but wish that the central conflict wasn't centered around her inability to be open about who she is. However, I don't find this to be a huge downside, when considering who this book is marketed towards. This is a great lesson for teens to learn and a great book to learn it through.
I really enjoyed the audiobook of this as well. The narrator did a wonderful job with the pace and changing up the tone as needed for different scenes.
Overall, I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes YA, romance, and witches. Rachel Griffin has become an auto-buy author for me at this point!
Oh this was lovely. Pacific Northwest forests filled with magic. The magic system in this book was gorgeous and felt realistic. I loved the characters and the adventure that they took. Pike and Iris had such a fun snarky relationship very fun.
Thanks to Netgalley and RB media for an audio arc of this book.
This was an easy read set in a world similar to ours, but with magic and witches as a known part of life. I liked the magic and how it was gentle and aligned with nature and the universe and wish we'd gotten more examples of the things it can do. I am digging these witch books with a contemporary feel and really liked how Iris used her magic to connect to animals and help them.
The world building was a bit light and with such a fast pace, I think the story was underdeveloped. It had cute moments, especially with Iris and Pike opening up to each other, but the stakes felt low and it was easy to see where the plot was heading. The audiobook had a good narrator and it was a nice read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to RB Media and NetGalley for the copy
Iris tries to hide her witchy powers from most but especially from Pike, her co-worker and unapologetic witch hater. Out of sheer frustration with Pike, Iris creates a curse she never plans on using. She just wants to let off steam. As this backfires Iris is forced to team up with Pike as they track an owl through the Washington wilderness. In the process they draw closer together as they learn more about each other.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the author’s writing style. I liked the interpretation of the witch powers. The developing romance between Iris and Pike was perfect. The narration by Laura Knight Keating was excellent. I have not read Rachel Griffin’s previous book Nature of Witches, but I plan to do so soon!
Thank you to #NetGalley, RB Media and #RachelGriffin for this Audio ARC in exchange for my honest review
Absolutely loved this fun, sweet story!
Wild is the Witch is the perfect mesh of a cozy YA contemporary and urban fantasy. Rachel’s writing is beautifully atmospheric, the characters are layered and lovable, the enemies-to-lovers so delightfully slow-burn, and the plot tight and pacey. I enjoyed Rachel’s first book, but I have to say this one outshines it. Also, OWLS.
Highly recommend!
SO thankful to Netgalley and the publisher for the audiobook—it was fantastic.

Thank you Netgalley & publisher for the ARC!
I absolutely adore Rachel Griffin’s twist on magic. This one was just as good as the first and the enemies to lovers twist was done so sweetly. The world building is subtle but fierce with how it’s connected to nature, the characters have amazing growth and their relationship is sincere and real. Pike was the nerdy boyfriend we all wish we had and Iris is so strong willed it’s incredible.
A nice, atmospheric read that really made me want to go hiking in the Pacific Northwest. A young witch creates a curse she never means to cast on a boy she thinks hates her. When her magic backfires in a horrific way, she ends up wondering if she was wrong about him all along. It's a sweet YA romance, though a lot of the major issues in the story could have been rectified with simple discussions (typical misunderstanding trope). The magical concepts and politics in the book are really interesting and not over the top. The descriptions of nature are beautiful. Another good book to read in the fall!
