A Trip with Trouble by Diane Kelly
I enjoyed this book even more than the first one in this new series by this very prolific author. The idea of a women’s motorcycle club was something new and different for me. The murder method was a bit unlikely but I still liked the story overall. Plus the mild romance continues.
Looking forward to book three.
A Trip with Trouble by Diane Kelly is the second book in the Mountain Lodge Mysteries. I loved the first in the series so I was excited to head back to the Blue Ridge Mountains and read about Misty Murphy and her wonderful lodge.
This book centers around the Dangerous Curves motorcycle club that is spending the week at the Lodge, riding the nearby trials. When one of the women is in a deadly accident, Misty does her best to find out what really happened on the winding road. We get a lot of character development in this book, with the series regulars and with the women in the bike club. You really get to know and care for them which makes the mystery so much more engaging.
There were some twists and red herrings throughout and I really enjoyed this read. I can't wait to read the next in the series.
If you like cozy mysteries, then you should definitely pick this one up! It has some hints of later in life romance, friendships, cats, and murder. I think the characters all made sense and the plot keeps the reader guessing until the end.
A lodge in the Blue Ridge Mointains.A Group of motorcycle women. A murder. The owner of the lodge tries to find the muderer with the help of her friends. Was entertaining and easy to read.
This is the second book in this series and it just as enjoyable as book one. Misty has been settling into her new life as a lodge owner in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A women’s motorcycle group comes to stay at the lodge and what initially looks like a fun group turns into trouble quickly, with a series of events that ultimately lead new up with one of the bikers dead. Misty wants to know what happened and find out if everyone is safe or is there something more sinister going on.
Excellent mystery that keeps you on your toes, just waiting for the next bad thing to happen. We have some red herrings, always a plus to keep you guessing. The characters are great and I love that our protagonist Misty and her romantic interest are middle aged. Enjoyable fast paced read and I’m looking forward to reading book three!
Misty Murphy has purchased a run down mountain lodge high in the Blue Ridge Mountains and renovated it. Feline Yeti keeps her company there and handyman Rocky Crowder adds to the local attractions.
In this 2nd in the cozy mystery series, the women of the Dangerous Curves Motorcycle Club book the Mountain Lodge - and murder follows.
Misty wonders if she has a killer staying at the Lodge. As usual, she investigates herself, with a little help from Rocky and ongoing commentary from Yeti - and solves the case.
This book was everything I want in a mountain lodge cozy!! Smores, fires, nature....it was great!
The Dangerous Curves women's biker club has booked a store at the lodge, and Misty takes an instant shine to the group. So did I. It was such a fun unique premise in a cozy and I loved that the women all came together from all walks of life for the love of riding.
I also really enjoyed that the victim was beloved. You don't see that too often. It was different, but the author did a great job of making it work. I was really invested in seeing justice for the victim!
I highly recommend this book to cozy lovers!
I received an arc of this book in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank netgalley, the author Diane Kelly, and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book!

While I enjoyed the first book in the series enough to give this one a shot, I found the dialogue and characterization extremely forced. Although the visiting group is a biker gang, they all have the same personality, humor, and voice of the protagonist. There is little to no differentiation between characters, so they are difficult to remember or tell apart. Additionally, I found the mystery highly telegraphed, and I predicted what would happen even before the murder occurred. I had also forgotten (but quickly remembered upon reading book 2) that select chapters in book 1 were told from the cat’s perspective— a narrative device that I deeply dislike.
This is the second in the Mountain Lodge series featuring Misty Murphy, who has relocated to the Blue Ridge Mountains to run the Mountaintop Lodge. A women's motorcycle group, the Dangerous Curves, have rented the entire lodge for a retreat. There is some friction between some of the riders, and the group leader is avoiding phone calls, so Misty is already dealing with some unpleasantness when one of the bikers is killed. Things escalate as someone starts stalking the lodge. I enjoyed the mystery, and liked Misty well enough. I wish her love interest wasn't named Rocky but he's written exactly like the kind of man I'd be interested in. The setting is described in enough detail to satisfy this reader, who loves to vacation through the books I read. The secondary characters are interesting and fleshed out sufficiently to add to the story. I enjoyed the book very much and will seek out more in this series.
A trip with Trouble is the second book in the Mountain Lodge Mysteries series by Diana Kelly where Misty Murphy is hosting the Curves Motorcycle Club at the Mountaintop Lodge for their annual autumn ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway, While Misty and Brynn get to join the girls on a ride Rocky stays at the lodge to hold down the fort! The mystery begins when Gerri ends up dead, the heart of the motorcycle club. Misty, Brynn, Rocky set out to figure out if Gerri death was an accident or mrder!
Great book and wonderful characters! Yeti the cat gets her own chapters that makes me laugh! Thanks to NetGallery for the ARC for this review.
Misty and her mountain inn are the perfect cozy setting for cozy mystery. I loved the biker group that came to stay, dangerous curves. After one of the women is found dead on what looks to be an accident. Misty isn’t so sure. She sets out to discover the truth along with her handsome handyman Rocky, and her friend and assistant Brynn. Can they uncover the dirty deeds or will the dangerous curves take them out?
This is the second in the series but not having read the first did not deter at all from this second book. I will be going back now to read the first and will be on the look out for further books in this series.
I liked the first book in this series very much but just couldn't get into this story. I'll pick it up again in a few weeks.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance read.
I really enjoyed this story. I think it was a great sequel! I really liked getting to know all of the new characters. I love that this series has the opportunity to bring in so many different characters because of the hotel/inn. It allows the series to flow really well and makes you question everyone when something goes wrong. I’m excited to see where the story goes in the future!
I really enjoyed returning to The Mountain Lodge and see what Misty and Yeti were up to.
This time they had group of lady bikers aka Dangerous Curves are staying with them. I really liked all the the biker chicks and especially liked Gerri.
Unfortunately trouble comes to the Mountain Lodge with the Dangerous Curves.
There is a lot of red herrings and suspense that kept me guessing to the end. I was on edge of my seat reading this book.
The ending was very satisfying and I am hopeful another book will be coming soon in this series.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC. The opinions are totally mine.
In short: It’s fall in the Blue Ridge Mountains and a women’s motorcycle club is staying at the lodge that Misty runs. Strange things start happening soon after their arrival including one member dying in an accident. Or was it murder?
What I liked about the mystery:
🏍Drama of the motorcycle club
🏍Large group of suspects
🏍Misty works with police as she sleuths
What I liked about the ongoing plot:
🍁I love that Misty is 50 & runs a mountain lodge
🍁The fall setting.
🍁Getting to know the recurring characters better.
Final thoughts: I loved this book, especially the fall setting. The descriptions made me feel like I was on a motorcycle riding through the mountains with the gang. Good me thing I like about this series is that each installment revolves around new guests at the lodge. It’s a fun play on a locked room mystery. I look forward to the next book, especially as love continues to blossom for Misty & Rocky.
A new cozy series by Kelly, this one was a fun read. Misty has opened up a new B&B and is excited to be filled up for the weekend hosting a women's motorcycle club. However, things take a shocking turn when one of the members meets a tragic end while out on a ride, and then accusations begin to come in about other members' motives. Well developed characters, a fun setting, and a good plot. I look forward to reading more in this series.
A Trip with Trouble is an entertaining cozy mystery. Well written plot with a fun cast of characters. I recommend this book to mystery fans. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
A Trip with Trouble is book #2 in the Mountain Lodge Mysteries series by Diane Kelly.

I haven't read the first in the series but A Trip with Trouble has me ready to read it. I loved the female motorcycle club, Dangerous Curves Motorcycle Club, and the fall coziness of this mystery.

A Trip With Trouble by Diane Kelly
This is Mountain Lodge Mystery book #2. Misty Murphy a 50 year old who recently signed divorce papers and then purchased a mountain lodge in the Blue Ridge Mountains in northwestern North Carolina. A women’s motorcycle club by the name of Dangerous Curves rented the entire lodge for the week to enjoy rides, hikes, and companionship during the fall season. Things go awry when the last rider in their group fails to show up at an overlook during one of their rides. Cell phone service is spotty and there’s no response to the handheld radio.
This cozy mystery pulls you in with the scenery and the women bikers. I like the seeing the story through Misty's pov. There is a bit of humor with Misty's cat and I like Misty's story about her life as well as how the mystery plays out. One of the girls in the club maybe doing things she is not suppose to and it brings some shady people to the lodge.
Misty needs to figure out what is going on before more things happen. I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. I like the all women biker group, the humor and figuring out the mystery. It was faced paced and real easy to follow along with the story. This was four star read and I recommend this book to cozy mystery book lovers especially if you like an all women motorcycle club and a humorous cat.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a free copy of this book for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
