I’ve been loving Bond’s “Not Your Average Hot Guy” series so I was super excited to be approved for the ARC. Unfortunately, this one was not for me. Hot Guy was also very cheesy but in a quirky, charming, lovable characters kind of way. This was just too cheesy, not in a cute way, and I didn’t care for either protagonist. I felt like it was doing too much. The witches and hunters and secret agents and star-crossed lovers - way too much.
I would read more by Bond but this wasn’t my favorite.
Came for the cover, stayed for the fun witchy goodness. Honestly, I went into this books with stg high hopes and they were exceeded.
The characters are well-written, with both Savannah and Griffin being complex and likable. Their relationship is believable and their banter is witty and charming. The plot is fast-paced and full of twists and turns, making for an exciting and engaging read. The world-building is also well-done, with the supernatural elements seamlessly integrated into the story.

This is Savvy's story and a pleasant retelling of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Just as the main characters had a ton of chemistry in the movie, so do Savvy and Griffin. It's not their faults, one hunts the other's kind. We start at the wedding and the book goes on from there. This was exciting, funny and sexy.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
While I didn’t care for my first experience reading a Gwenda Bond paranormal romcom, I was felt compelled to give her another chance upon seeing the premise of Mr. & Mrs. Witch. It seemed like a lot of fun, putting a supernatural spin on Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and was wacky enough that I was willing to just go along for the ride.
I love the “world building” elements peppered into the narrative, mostly about the two respective organizations that Savvy and Griffin work for. Learning a bit about the relationships between C.R.O.N.E. (witches) and H.U.N.T.E.R. (witch hunters) was a lot of fun, and I like how it was in part build on the history of witches and witch hunting (eg Salem), while also trying to be its own thing.
Savvy and Griffin’s story is a lot of fun, because you see in flashbacks how they initially fall in love, while also getting insight into how things proceed from their ill-fated wedding day. I love how initially, the plot seems to center on the longstanding enmity between the two groups, and the Big Reveal of their partner’s respective involvement with the Enemy, but there’s also more sinister forces at work which means they have to work together, thus testing the relationship they had built prior. It can be hard to execute a book with deception in the plot, but I like that this one focused on them overcoming their differences, and focusing on the deeper bond that had formed prior to the major shakeup. And ultimately, despite their rival alliances, their true love, care, and respect for each other shines through.
This is a fun read, even if you’re not super familiar with the source material (I’m not!), but are looking for a fun witchy/paranormal romantic comedy to read!
Mr. and Mrs. Witch begins with a beautiful wedding that soon turns into a nightmare. Savvy, a witch, learns her husband to be, Griffin, is a hunter of witches. So when this becomes obvious to those in attendance chaos ensues.
Glenda Bond has created a sexy, fun witchy romance. I have been wanting to read such a book but unfortunately learned it is not fo me. I don’t have much interest in learning about ‘familiars’ or ‘cones’. etc. But for those who are into this type of story I’m sure they will enjoy it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review this arc.
Unlike most people on earth, I have recently watched the 2005 action-romance, Mr. and Mrs. Smith... as in, within the last 3 months. And I love witches. So I was thrilled to hear about this book and even more excited when I had the opportunity to read it early! (s/o to Netgalley, Gwenda Bond, and St. Martin's: tysm ily)
Firstly, Mr. and Mrs. Witch is better than the movie, but plot-wise it is similar. Mr. and Mrs. Witch (a.k.a. Griffin Carter and Savannah "Savvy" Wilde) work for rival organizations. Savvy is a witch and an operative for C.R.O.N.E.; Griffin is a human operative for H.U.N.T.E.R. Their organizations stop magical malarkey around the world, but they do not interact. Savvy and Griffin find out on their wedding day that they are natural enemies. The book with the wedding then alternates past and present, starting with the day they met. That's where I'll stop to avoid spoilers.
So I REALLY liked this. Savvy and Griffin have insane chemistry and respect each other, and they don't make jokes at each other's expense (which is really cringe in the movie). The secondary characters were wonderful too and the relationships feel natural (the friendships in the movie are honestly tragic). My favorite parts were the backstory because I love romances where the mains like each other, but the present-day chapters were super fun and fast-paced. I had a blast reading this! 4.5/5
3.5 stars! A fun and well plotted story with characters that has good chemistry! Griffin and Savvy chemistry was cute and the story did a fantastic job in combining supernatural and romance into one!

Gwenda Bond is the New York Times bestselling author of many novels, including the first official Stranger Things novel, Suspicious Minds. Her paranormal rom-coms include a duology, Not Your Average Hot Guy and The Date from Hell, and, new in 2023, Mr. & Mrs. Witch. Upcoming projects include Audible Original Series The Youngbloods with Kami Garcia and Sam Humphries (2023), a magical heist novel, and a historical romance series featuring gods, monsters, and witches. She clearly escaped from a classic screwball romantic comedy. She lives in a hundred-year-old house in Lexington, Kentucky, with her husband, author Christopher Rowe, and a veritable zoo of adorable doggos and queenly cats.
“Until this is over, we stick together.”
Savvy is devoted to her job. She has put all of her energy into being the best. So when a handsome man finds his way in her path, she is taken aback. Griffin is enamored with Savvy from the start. There is something too magnetic about her. And he is captivated by her beauty, wit, and heart. Too bad the wedding is about to be ruined.
This was very cute. I enjoyed the world-building, the romance mixed with magic, and how the characters brought out the best in each other.
Savvy was such a bold leading lady. I loved how brave she was, how smart, and how her fear didn’t overshadow her passion. Griffin was the perfect balance for Savvy. He was intelligent, kind, and loyal. Their bond is magical.
I loved all the side characters in this book. The banter, dedication, and love were evident and beautiful. I found the way this story was told well done and exciting.
The alternating timelines and perspectives were clever, and I felt they added to the plot. I found myself endeared to these characters. And I loved how things played out.
This was an original, funny, and charming book. I hope it becomes a series because so much should be explored!
This is a fun read. Griffin is stoic character. Savvy is a fiery witch. The plot of the story is well designed. The story is told from the point of view of Savvy and Griffin alternatively. It is also told in retrospect and in the present. Griffin and Savvy find themselves fighting for their love and their lives after their wedding was interrupted. It is a pleasant read.
Witty, intelligent, romantic, and magical! Couldn't put this one down. Bond is an author who better be on everyone's radar. She is quickly becoming a favorite author. Perfect for those who like a little intrigue with their romance.
This sorry was pitched as a retelling of Mr and Mrs Smith, which I have never seen but I liked this book! I loved the switch between pay and present, aswell as the switch between characters! So much happened in such lutte time, which was a little confusing, but all in all so good! Loved the explained of witches as well as familiars, and the trope of enemies to lovers! Also, i was a big fan of the bisexual representation in the book! Very enjoyable read!
This was super cute! The enemies part didn't last very long at all but I actually really enjoyed that. I just thought that they were adorable and I loved seeing them work through whatever was thrown at them.
I received an arc through netgalley.
Just as the title implies, this was very much the premise of Mr. & Mrs. Smith but with magic and supernaturals. I liked Savvy and Griffin both as characters and as a couple. They obviously had great chemistry despite them being mortal enemies. I was a little confused with the past POVs because of the constant transitions, but it did give good insights. Overall very entertaining and fun read! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
Such a great book. The characters had wonderful personalities and were very relatable beside the witch part.
Every once in a while, I come across a book that begs, BEGS, to be a tv series, or a graphic novel. Gwenda Bond’s Mr. & Mrs. Witch would translate so well into a visual medium. I keep throwing in graphic novel as an option, because some of the more fantastical elements would need very good special effects. I would love to see Mother Circe’s cabin on chicken legs, the witches flying on brooms, and the familiars shifting forms.
The book opens on Savvy and Griffin’s wedding day. Savvy’s friends and her mother are not on board with the wedding, and neither are Griffin’s friends and family (except his mother). Savvy and Griffin belong to opposing organizations, Savvy is a witch with C.R.O.N.E. and Griffin belongs to a group that protects the world from the supernatural, especially from witches. Neither knows of the other’s affiliation, and each is sure they can keep their identity hidden from the other.
Before vows can be exchanged, the handbasket to hell express arrives, secret identities are exposed, vows of revenge are made, and everyone retreats to their separate headquarters. The leader of each organization, Mother Circe for the witches and the Butcher for the hunters, demands that Savvy and Griffin kill each other. When that doesn’t happen quickly, they are both kicked out of their respective organizations and bounties are placed on their heads. Almost everyone thinks there is something fishy about how fast Mother Circe and the Butcher turn on Savvy and Griffin, and indeed there is. Among the current events, we get flashbacks to how they met and fell in love.
Even with the flashbacks, the story moves quickly. I struggled a bit with the narrative point of view. Mr. & Mrs. Witch is told by a close third person present narrator, so we are outside of the point of view character’s head, but we know what they are thinking and feeling. This pov left me feeling at a distance at times, so I was reading for plot, not emotional connections. Sometimes this works for me and sometimes it doesn’t. This time it mostly did. I think part of the reason I kept wanting it to be in a more visual format was because I had to work harder to engage with the text. But I really do want to see Mother Circe’s chicken house in action, and Diego’s bottle trees, and to see the familiars in all their shapes. Struggles with the narrator aside, I did enjoy this. I do want to note that the two organizations seem to be divided on gender lines. That may be a result of the rot at the top. I don’t get the sense that Bond herself is a gender essentialist.
CW: attempted murder, murder witnessed in the past, necromancy, implied abuse of familiars
I received this as an advance reader copy from St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.
Mr. & Mrs. Witch was just such a fun read! Savvy Wilde, a powerful witch, is set to marry the love of her life, Griffin Carter—only he doesn’t know about her powers. He has secrets of his own though—he works for a witch hunting agency. Only on their wedding day, their two organizations clash and now they’re the ones being hunted. This book is funny and original. It’s bright and witty with such great characters. Griffin, in his devotion for Savvy, is so swoon-worthy. He’s romantic and sharp. Savvy too is headstrong and lively. And the side characters add so much to the story—they’re such wonderful support system to Savvy and Griffin and they all so eccentric and fun in their own right. The magic too was really good and I loved the dynamics of this magical community! Genuinely just a fun ride!
Mr. & Mrs. Witch takes us on a journey of love, deception, betrayal and secrets through dual POV and mixed timelines telling the story with flashbacks in the year leading up to the present.
In this Paranormal take on Mr and Mrs Smith we have Covert Responses to Occult Nightmares by Enchantresses (C.R.O.N.E.) operative, Savvy and Humans Undertaking Nocturnal Terror and Evil Reduction (H.U.N.T.E.R.) Agent, Griffin.
Savvy and Griffin fall madly in love but they both harbor secrets that blow up on their wedding day. Once their jobs and families are brought into the light will they be able to see through the lies and work together to take out an old yet new common enemy?

I loved the premise so much. However, this book fell into the trap of trying to do too much with action and not giving as much to character development. The story moves fast but I know very little about these characters. I need a connection and I got nothing.
Savvy and Griffin are walking down the aisle when their secrets leak at the worst possible time. She’s a witch and he’s a witch hunter- sworn enemies. As the ceremony devolves into chaos, can Savvy and Griffin ever find their way back to each other? To try, they’ll have to re-examine everything they took for granted about how they met and fell in love. Is their love stronger than a decades old enmity?
Mr. & Mrs. Witch was such a fun adventure! I could see the nods to Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but the story stands on its own. I really liked the magic system and how Griffin and Savvy had to work together to uncover the truth. I enjoyed the twist at the end and the reason behind the chaos. The one thing I struggled a little bit with was the switching back between present and past. It felt a little disjointed at times. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Griffin and Savvy, including the specific details like meeting at Little Shop of Stories!
I recommend Mr. & Mrs. Witch for readers looking for a lighthearted, engaging, magical adventure! I enjoyed Mr. & Mrs. Witch and look forward to reading what Gwenda Bond writes next! I hope we get to see more stories from this world.
Mr & Mrs. Witch is available March 7, 2023. Thank you to Gwenda Bond, St. Martin’s Griffin, and Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
