My Thoughts

What can I say but having loved the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith how could I not at least like this pair?

I have to be totally above board saying that the description in no way was a let down as Savvy and Griffins story more than lived up to what I wanted once it played out.

What made it work best for me is simple, for every action, and its expected reaction, there were ones taken that managed to surprise me and in all the best ways.

As past grievances and secrets come to light our opposing, but still in love with each other, characters just might have found a way to make things work for themselves.

Well worth reading to find out for certain.

So many characters of interest are included in this story that I hope some of them eventually get their own.

"In Mr. and Mrs. Witch, the next novel from bestselling author Gwenda Bond, a couple discovers at the altar the surprising secret identities they've kept from each other.

Savannah Wilde is a witch, a very powerful one - an identity that only her fellow witches know. Following a whirlwind romance that surprised herself and her family, Savvy is all set to marry the love of her life. But she isn’t the only one with a secret that needs to be kept, even from her soon-to-be husband.

Griffin Carter is a top agent for a clandestine organization that, well, used to primarily hunt witches, but now mainly tries to shut down supernatural threats their own way. He can’t wait to lay his eyes on the woman he’s about to spend the rest of his life with.

As Savvy walks down the aisle to Griffin, the wedding quickly goes from blessed day to shit show when their true identities are revealed. To say there’s bad blood between their factions is putting it mildly. Savvy and Griffin are tasked to take the other out, but when they discover a secret that could take down both of their agencies, they realize the only way to survive is to team up. With assassins hot on their trail, will Savvy and Griffin make it out alive to try again at 'I do'?"

Love the author. Love the concept. Hate the cover so much.

A cool concept that didn't live up to my hopes--others might love it though. I did not particularly enjoy the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, upon which this was based, so that should have been a warning. I am not a fan of present-tense books, the story was predictable, the final battle didn't live up to the mark, and I would have liked more romance. That said, if you enjoy action-packed fantasy reads with a supernatural twist, this might be for you..

This book was a lot of fun. A couple falls in love, each harboring their own secrets. As those secrets come to light, they realize that they should be mortal enemies.
This is such a delightful urban fantasy novel with really engaging, and dynamic characters that the reader learns to identify with. I would absolutely pick up a sequel if Gwenda Bond wants to continue the saga of the Witches and Wardens!

Love this magical take on Mr. and Mrs. Smith! Enter Savvy Wilde, witch extraordinaire and member of CRONE (Covert Responses to Occult Nightmares by Enchantresses), who is madly in love with her husband to be - Griffin Carter who, unbeknownst to her, happens to be an agent of HUNTER (Humans Undertaking Nocturnal Terror and Evil Responses). Both of these organizations happen to be sworn enemies of each other for hundreds of years, but the two of them are clueless about each other. She thinks he is an antiquities professor and he thinks she works in animal rescue. They’ve been together for a year and on their wedding day…all hell breaks loose! For at their wedding, the leader of the Hunters and head witch of the coven are in the audience, and no one can deny the magic at play. Suddenly, Savvy and Griffin realize that they don’t know each other as they thought they did and shouldn’t be together and besides witches cannot marry hunters….right? Throw that in with a bounty on both their heads and directives to terminate each other from their bosses and you have a delightful adventure filled fantastical romantic tale where Savvy and Griffin uncover the truth behind both of their organizations for better or worse and realize how similar they actually are.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.

3 Stars This is a fun rom com reminiscent of the 2005 film Mr. And Mrs. Smith, but with a paranormal twist. Luckily, it is not a replica of the movie and doesn't follow exactly the same plot or structure. On Savvy's wedding day to antiquities professor Griffin, they each find out the others' hidden identities--that she's a witch and he's a hunter. They are on diametrically opposed sides, so what do they do now? But everything is not as it seems, so Savvy and Griffin may have a chance at a HEA after all. This was a quick and fun rom com and I recommend it, especially if you love witches/lighthearted paranormal romances.

My favorite Gwenda Bond yet!

Savvy and Griffin are ready to tie the knot - but neither of them knows they're both agents for warring secret organizations, Savvy as a witch who uses her magic to take down supernatural threats and Griffin as a witch hunter. That is, until the whole ceremony blows up - literally - when their true identities are exposed and the wedding guests begin to do battle. The two of them are hurt, confused, and under attack, and the only way to survive might be to make up and run...

This was such a fun, fast read. It's third person present, which I'm not sure was the best choice here but certainly didn't not work. I would have loved a little more depth on the page between Savvy and Griffin, too, but I'm not sure how I would have wanted to seen that achieved. It's a great time, though, and I'd love to see more in this world.

The description doesn't do this book justice-it's a lot of fun and a great read! Written in the style of a modern rom-com (present tense-multiple POVs) with magic and spies added, Mr. & Mrs. Witch goes past the "estranged partners" description very fast and turns into a fast-paced race for Savannah and Griffin to learn to trust each other again and figure out what's wrong in their organizations. The happy ending finishes off the book with a lovely bow with enough space for new couples to get their HEA. I really enjoyed this book, which is impressive because normally I _hate_ present tense narratives. Recommended.

Did you like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, that amazing husband wife dynamic with edge... but also wished there had been a paranormal element to it? Well then read this book as soon as you can. I have adored everything from this author and this book was no different. You get to see how they met and how they are very different and will they make it? I read this in one sitting and I am still thinking about it - which is great for me with the amount of books I read yearly

This one was a tough read for me, the premise of the book is generally right up my alley. Two spies are getting married, they work for rival organizations and they call of the wedding at the alter when they find out the truth only to be ordered to take each other out à la Mr and Mrs Smith. Throw some magic and crazy technological weapons in there as well as some torn feelings as they slowly come to realize that their love outweighs their loyalty and it should be an amazing book. I liked parts of it, the friends of Saavy and Griffin were hilarious. There were moments were I was really rooting for them as a couple mostly because of Griffin and how he looked out for Saavy despite what he had been told and taught about witches. The writing seemed choppy and the development of the relationship seemed rushed or fragmented. The ending was interesting but the book overall did not capture my attention and it took a while to finish the novel. Overall it was not a bad story but not a great one either.

This books was an action packed fun read!

Think: Mr & Mrs Smith, but make it witchy.

It does follow a very similar story line as the movie, but the magic aspect to it gives it a very fresh and unique spin.

This book absolutely grabbed my attention and did not let go until I finished the book. The chemistry between the main characters was perfect and the side characters were lovable and randomly hilarious.

So glad I picked up this book when I did, it was exactly what I needed!

I really liked the idea of this book. Something about the pacing of it didn't work for me. I found it hard to get invested in the characters.

Savannah and Griffin are about to get married. Savannah is a powerful witch. She and her secret group
C.R.O.N.E. (Covert Responses to Occult Nightmares by Enchantresses work around the planet, doing things like keeping demons from poisoning water supplies. Meanwhile, Griffin is a member of a secret group who, historically, tracked down and destroyed witches. Nowadays, though they still consider witches to be their enemies, they help keep the world safe from supernatural threats. As a result of their covert jobs, neither knows about the other.

I loved this book. The world-within-our-world made it easy to believe. The way they met, and the steamy nature of their relationship made it a fun, intense read. It is a lot like the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith (hence the title); Savvy and Griffin are at odds and have to fight to stay alive while trying to figure out who wants them dead. Writing this review has made me want to read it again - I definitely recommend this book.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but it gets even better with witches and other supernatural beings.

I honestly had so much fun reading this. The world building was very well thought out, the cast of characters were all unique and full of life, and the overall pacing was great.

Savvy and Griffin were absolutely adorable and it was very rewarding to see the distinction as well as the similarities between their past and present. The way that they met and instantly clicked with their banter was so satisfying to my romantic heart. They were both reasonable and mature when it came to reading their respective chapters, so I didn't find myself rolling my eyes at their POVs. What I really appreciate about the book is that there was no unnecessary dramatic 3rd act break up. This was a cozy and fluffy romance that I can say with confidence was good for my heart.

I also feel like the author did a good job with diversity and inclusion in the story in terms of sexuality and demographics. Diego was a side character that I loved not only for the representation but his humor as well.

All of the familiars had my heart and that one chapter that we got with Paris had me smiling from ear to ear with how cute it was. The concept of having bonded familiars had me jealous and desperate to have one of my own.

The found family aspect of the story and end to feuds between C.R.O.N.E and H.U.N.T.E.R.S was everything that I never knew I needed. My only issue was that the ending we got with the heads of the respective organizations felt incomplete. But that sentiment might just be the cynic in me to see justice done or the author will attempt to continue the story in another book. We will just have to patiently wait and see. Other than that everything else was great.

In conclusion, this was an amazing and quick read full of witchy wholesome goodness. I definitely recommend this to fans of the paranormal that one something warm to read.

I will leave a review on Amazon and B&N on Mar 7th

At times in this book I really enjoyed it, at other times I wondered why am I even reading this. It was action packed, but at times the storyline was so far fetched. When a witch and a hunter meet, with no concept of what they each are what follows is a fantasy storyline with a little bit of romance tossed in. Although this was not a favorite of mine I still would recommend to others because not everyone enjoys the same style of writing.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin, I am leaving my review voluntarily.

Review:
I cannot say enough good things about Mr. & Mrs. Witch. I've already reccomended it to some people and my go to description is Mr. and Mrs. Smith but with magic spies instead of assassins. Savvy and Griffin are the perfet coupld and the way this book is plotted: starting with their wedding day and interspersed with flashbacks to moments throughout their love story you really get a full sense of who they are together and apart.
I've enjoyed Gwenda's books over the years, and having read a lot of them, I feel like this one is a level up for her and I'm so excited to see it happen for her. Her characters are engaging and magic or not feel like real people making real choices and not puppets on a string.
My only criticism comes from the ending where the main conflict gets wrapped up rather easily, but it's not that I didn't like that personally, but the stakes felt so high the whole book and it tooks the wind out of my framatic sails a bit. The drama and the humor go hand in hand for Gwenda and she does it so well!
While Savvy and Griffin are the main characters for sure. There is no way not to mention Savvy's familiar Paris, a leopard that glamours into a housecat and loves dad just as much as mom. Both Savvy and Griffin's fellow agents, friends, and family are interesting and I feel like there is a book two here and I need it to happen.

This was a cute, witchy take on Mr and Mrs Smith. I liked both Savvy and Griffin as characters, but I found some of the magical elements a bit juvenile. Especially the acronyms for the organizations.

What a delight! I have enjoyed Gwenda Bond's Date from Hell series and was excited to get an email about this new book that described it as an "absolutely delicious lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers paranormal take on Mr. and Mrs. Smith." That's an extremely apt description of the story of Savvy (Savannah) Wilde and Griffin Carter, unknowingly star-crossed lovers who find out, right in the middle of their wedding ceremony, that they're actually enemies. Savvy is a witch and is part of organization (C.R.O.N.E.) run by witches who are trying to keep magic in check. Griffin is part of an organization called H.U.N.T.E.R. that... well, tries to keep witches in check. This was very fast-paced with lots of action and magic and banter and a ton of chemistry between the main characters. Savvy and Griffin's history is told in interstitial chapters, and their whole romance is very sweet. I found this fun, funny and satisfying, and I'll definitely keep looking for more Gwenda Bond.

I hadn’t read this author before, and this book’s blurb sounded interesting. This is a fun, romantic book with some action-packed suspense around the romance. This was well-written, and I liked the characters. I wasn’t sure that we really needed the glimpse of the past, and I found that almost unnecessary. If we need to see the past, especially only a year in the past, make the book chronological. Anyway, that aside, I did enjoy this book. If you like a paranormal romance with witches, you will definitely enjoy this book. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
