Are you looking for a quick reading para-normal romance? Then you are in luck when reading Mr. & Mrs. Witch which riffs off the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith with its own twists. The book opens with a wedding where Savannah Wilde and Griffin Carter discover that they are on opposing sides of a centuries-old conflict. Savannah the witch is tasked by Mother Circe, the head of C.R.O.N.E., with taking out her husband-to-be while Griffin is tasked by the Butcher, head of H.U.N.T.E.R., to take out his bride-to-be. There is a fun confrontation at the house they share which includes a knife scene that seems an Easter egg to the movie before mercs force them to work together. Will the two of them figure out what is going on before it is too late for everyone an a general fight between the two groups breaks out? Gwenda Bond paces the book nicely with chapters set in the present time and chapters set in earlier times that flesh out details just in time for character development and plot enhancement. A very fun read!
Thanks Netgalley for the chance to read this title!
This is my second Gwenda Bond book and I don’t think they’re for me. I love the idea but I find myself wandering away and not staying engaged. Wish I knew what it was exactly that causes this. I really wanted to love this one!
So. Very. CHEESY. And I love cheesy things, but this was way too much! And all the 'witchy' puns and acronyms, this really just felt like it was trying way too hard to be cool. This book was a struggle from start to 20% where I called it quits and dnf'ed it.
And ok, her name is Savannah and her nickname is Savvy, so she's constantly being called Savvy by everyone and I can only hear Jack Sparrow saying Savvy in my head every time I read her name I just CANT ANYMORE
Thanks NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this *gestures broadly* thing
DNF. While the plot sounded good, the writing style did not appeal to me. I might give this another go, but for now, it's a no from me.
I received an arc on NetGalley for an honest review. If you are looking for a magical Mr. & Mrs. Smith then this is for you. Savvy is a member of an organization that keeps magic hidden and in balance but her soon to be husband knows nothing about this. Griffin is a professor and witch hunter, also Savvy’s fiancé. Witches and hunters aren’t supposed to get along with each other and definitely not marry. So what happens when the two discover each other’s secret. A race to eliminate on another for the good of their organizations. But what if there are other things at play, can their love survive. I enjoyed this story but was not a fan of all the time jumps. The majority of them was to give you their background on how they got together. They were interesting but drew me out of the action that was taking place. I understood why when I got to the end of the book why some of them were there. All and all I liked it.
Really enjoyed the plot of this it's unique! The world building was cool and really enjoyed the couple and even side characters (normally don't care for them). This is my third and fave book of Gwenda's I think it's her best yet! You could even turn this into a series the world had even more to expand on and potential with other characters love stories!
This book is Mr & Mrs Smith meets witches and magic. I loved this action packed spy thriller of a magical romance and couldn’t put this book down. I wasn't sure just how I’d feel as this book isn’t my usual brand of romance but page after page I was hooked on the incredible story, characters, and magical elements at play. This book was incredible and I highly recommend reading it!
I received a free advanced review copy of this novel and am offering my honest opinion voluntarily.
I absolutely adored this book! The story follows Savvy (and her family) who are witches and Griffin (and his family) who are hunters of the supernatural but now they have to assassinate EACH OTHER. However nothing can stop them from falling in love. This book has dual POVs and flashbacks which helps you understand them more and I’m absolutely here for it. I cannot recommend this book enough,
This is a prime example of a book giving out major metaphorical blue balls. Whenever anything fun and action packed (ex: fight scenes against enemies) starts to takes place, it's literally over in just a a paragraph or switching to the past timeline. Blink and you'll miss it.
The past chapters should've been cut down since half of them didn't really add anything to enhance the story. They did nothing for the romance. The pacing and tone were inconsistent especially with the odd jokes thrown throughout. Having a POV from their pet was super weird. History of the coven and hunters weren't really given until almost 70% in. By then, I lost interest. All the details should've been given in the first quarter. The ending? Another poof and gone moment.
There was so much potential here but it kept missing the mark where it could've shined. Also, it was pointed out that she's actually taller than him and doesn't like to wear heels. Now look at the book cover. lol

Calling the witch agency “C.R.O.N.E.” is SO clever. Gwenda Bond, you are a GENIUS.
Unbeknownst to each other, Savvy is an agent for C.R.O.N.E. (Covert Responses to Occult Nightmares by Enchantresses), and Griffin is an agent for H.U.N.T.E.R. (Humans Undertaking Nocturnal Terror and Evil Reduction). On their wedding day, it is revealed that Savvy is a witch and Griffin is a hunter, and safe to say, neither of them take it well.
Mr. & Mrs. Witch by Gwenda Bond was a delightful read. Yes, it is based off of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but the supernatural elements elevate it, and it becomes its own creation.
The love story between Savvy and Griffin is sweet. These characters have so much chemistry. Even while fighting, it is never doubted they love and trust each other. I appreciated how quickly (but not too quickly!) they made amends and started to work together.
At times, it felt like the story was afraid to go too far. Savvy and Griffin took the high ground often, meaning they were reluctant to eliminate very real threats or they easily forgave grievous wrongs. While in some instances it paid off, in others, it felt like the characters got away with their harmful actions way too easily.
The antagonists’ motivations were weak, and the final battle was lackluster. It was presented as a mystery, but it was apparent what was happening. Predictability is not a bad thing, but to watch two very clever characters be so clueless was frustrating, especially because their inner monologues spelled it out for the reader.
The supporting characters made this book. Savvy and Griffin’s support systems were so convivial and wholesome. Even the wacky familiars are charming.
A personal highlight: Griffin always let Savvy shine. She was no damsel, and he accepted that she was stronger without a fuss. This automatically made Griffin a forever-favorite book boyfriend.
Mr. & Mrs. Witch is a page-turner. The incorporation of common lore and caricatures was entertaining. Gwenda Bond built an immersive world that I would love to explore. I only have one question: Brie and Diego’s book when?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was very fun, entertaining and easy romcom read for me. The characters were relatable and the storyline quite interesting. Would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone!
This is such a fun and entertaining read! I loved how it was based on the movie but also had its own flair to it!
4/5 stars
This book is a retelling of the popular movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith (as you can tell by the title) mixed with some supernatural aspects. If you enjoyed the movie, then you will definitely enjoy this book!
The book follows Savvy and Griffin in a lovers to enemies to lovers type romance with dual pov perspectives. Savvy and Griffin meet and fall in love without knowing that Savvy is a witch and Griffin is a part of an organization that used to hunt witches but now mainly operates to shut down supernatural threats. They are incredibly in love until they find out the truth about each other. This news taints their romance and paints a target on each of their backs.
This books was a quick and fun read! There were aspects that I really enjoyed when reading the book, specifically the timeline that kept shifting between their present situation after finding out the truth but also their past when they first met. This made me feel like I was really connecting with the characters more because I could learn about their entire relationship before and after the truth came out.
The only thing that I felt was lacking was the big secret they discovered that posed an even bigger threat to their lives. I know that this book is essentially a romance, but one of the major plot points in the books slightly fell through. The main action part of the book could have been a little more dramatic in my opinion. I also hoped that there would be a little more world building about the origins of both the organizations.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and I would recommend it to others!

This story started with their bang up meeting and the insta feelings that you know are strong. The characters are wonderful and well matched. I really loved Griffin’s tender heart.
A dream wedding that then comes crashing down. That’s what made me a bit sad. Do they not love each other all of a sudden because of who they are and the chaos surrounding them everywhere? After all, they both have secrets not shared.
Then there is the bouncing between then and now that somewhat lost my interest. Strange happenings that don’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Some of the supporting characters bugged me
While the connection between the two of them did have its pull throughout, some pieces of this story seemed overly fantastical, like Bond was trying too hard. She lost me in many areas.
Overall, Mr. & Mrs. Witch is a fun read if you enjoy fantasy with a romantic twist. For me, I wish it was the other way around.
Mr & Mrs Witch by Gwenda Bond
So I guess this was a take on Mr & Mrs Smith. I say the Angelina Jolie move years ago but don’t remember much. Except I think it might have been a remake. It was so long ago though that the idea that this was a supernatural take on that story didn’t dawn on me until I was adding the book to my “currently reading” list on good reads and saw that in review headline.
The main premise? A supernatural “H.U.N.T.E.R.” (although I don’t recall ever being told what that stood for – that or C.R.O.N.E. either, but it is possible I missed it) and a witch, both living secret lives as agents for their respective agencies. They meet by chance (or was it?) and fall in love. They are about to get married – literally in the church – when the fireworks happen (almost literally) and up-end those plans. The how and why, as well as figuring out how they can be together when they are on opposite sides of the fight is what this is all about. As they chase each other, and the truth, will they get back together? Or are being members of CRONE and HUNTER too big an obstacle? Will they get to say “I do”?
Great banter, great characters, even better friends of our 2 love birds, a few plot twists, a bunch of magic, a little steam, and a great does of romance all made this a wonderful read. It was action packed too! Often in these types of paranormal romance the action is almost skippable, but here it was delightful and just the right amount so I had no desire to skim it.
Glad I read this – and am now off to read a bunch of other things by Ms. Bond, hoping they are just as delightful!
Savvy is a witch. Griffin hunts witches. Neither of them knows the truth about the other ... until their wedding day. Now, everything is going wrong, the lovebirds can't trust each other and their families are at odds.
This is a smart, magical take on Mr & Mrs Smith. The plot is non stop and action packed, and the characters are fun and relatable. I also adored the familiars! My only gripe is with the flashbacks - our heroes must have been really dim to miss all of the early signs about each other. However, the rest is pure gold!
A true enemies to lovers! Fun, witty banter of back and forth dialogue with a witchy theme. I loved it as a good quick romance read.
Well, in an effort to present only their best sides, what trouble this couple gets into! It's about change and blending and love and was a delightful read!
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.
Very good read, I recommend it.
I received this from netgalley in exchange for a review.
I really liked this twist on Mr & Mrs Smith including magic!! I really enjoyed Savvy and Griffin as a couple, and the accompanying plot problems they encountered as one is a witch and the other basically tries to stop witch activity. I would love to read more - I really enjoyed Savvy’s CRONE friends and Griffin’s fellow HUNTERS - there were definitely sparks between Brie and Diego and I want a book for them!!!
Savvy’s mother sucks and Savvy forgives her too fast, but that’s about the only complaint I had.
