Mr. & Mrs. Witch had good potential for the plot, but unfortunately, this one fell a little short for me. I know others will enjoy this one. I will not be reviewing it on my platforms.
This book was a funny one for sure. I am surprised they didn't publish it in October. It gave me bewitched vibes for sure! I should also note that I am not the type to read tons of fantasy, but I love romantic comedies and this was certainly a mix of all 3.
Thank you to the publisher. and Netgalley for granting access to this book!

A witchy retelling of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Mr. & Mrs. Witch proves that not every story needs a retelling. Savannah "Savvy" Wilde is a powerful witch field agent, part of an organization known as C.R.O.N.E., that hekps to keep the magical balance to keep the real world safe. On an expedition to London, she meets Griffin Carter, a nerdy antiquities professor, or so she thinks. Griffin is actually a hunter, part of an organization that neutralizes witches and other magical beings. They have a whirlwind romance, each hiding each other's true identities from each other, until their wedding day, when they both see the leaders of their rival organizations in attendance on the opposite side of the aisle. Quickly, all hell breaks loose, and the two are instructed that they must take the other out. But something doesn't feel quite right, and after Savvy gets over her initial feelings of betrayal, her and Griffin work together to take out the true threats to both of their organizations. This story bounced around timelines too often to feel cohesive, and I think the third person narration (except the one odd stylistic choice of having leopard familiar, Paris, narrate a chapter in the first person 🤔) made it particularly difficult to connect to the characters on a personal level. I am starting to feel like I might just like the idea of a witchy rom-com rather than actually like them, as this is just the latest in a string of many that have fell flat for me.
Mr. and Mrs. Witch is an on the nose retelling of Mr. and Mrs. Smith but make it paranormal. In this rivals to lovers romance the strongest C.R.O.N.E witch of her coven, Savvy, is set to marry Griffin, a undercover rival from the human organization Hunter. However things come to a head when the leaders of their organizations attend their wedding a start up a war.
Going into this I had higher expectations for this but it's semi-fade to black, predictable plot line was just a bit meh. Gwenda successfully weaved in the flashbacks with the present time to navigate the build up to today but I found it difficult to believe they didn't know they were with rival orgs. The redeeming factors of this story were Bree and Diego but I don't know if I'd actually go back and read their story.
This was quite a fun read, and I really flew through it. It was very action packed, and the plot was just really engaging. The romance was also really cute, and I liked that we got flashbacks to the early stages of their relationship just to strenghten that bond between them. I also quite liked our cast of characters, they were quite one dimensional, but I do think it was a really fun cast, and I wouldn't be against this author writing more romances following some of these side characters.
However, I do not think this book was anything standout or special. Whenever it has a reveal, they kind of move on from it quickly, and the ending was also incredibly easy. So that felt a bit like a let down, because this whole threat we have in the background the entire book is just gone within a few seconds. All of that made this book fall a bit flat for me. I would still recommend this book though if you are interested in it because it is a great palet cleanser, and just a fun time.
You'll be cheering for Savvy & Griffin from the very first pages. You can tell right away that despite their deceptions and the craziness that QUICKLY pops off in the book (which I love getting right into it!), they've got what it takes to choose each other. You will most certainly laugh while reading the book, but Gwenda seriously nailed it with Mr. and Mrs. Witch. The banter is great, the character development is top notch - you'll even get a good feel for and fall for the friends and supporting characters, there's a great balance of steam and spice and fun.
At the start of Mr. & Mrs. Witch, Savannah Wilde and Griffin Carter are all set to get married. In fact, they're in their formal wear with their guests waiting when everything seems to go to hell. It turns out that both characters have been keeping a big secret from each other: Savannah is actually a witch while Griffin is actually a witch hunter. Once all of this is revealed, the former lovers are now tasked with taking each other out.
Savannah and Griffin were quickly drawn to each other but should have never made a connection. The will of their families is just too strong. There is so much bad blood between them. Or at lease that is the way it appears at first. Yet the more they try to push each other away and take each other out, the harder it gets. The love between them is still very much there. You could feel the chemistry jumping off the pages.
Together, they make a discovery that could change everything but will only work if they team up. Suddenly instead of fighting, they are trying to outrun the assassins' that want to take them down. Any of this sounding familiar? Well if you've seen the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith is should as this story is a paranormal retelling. As Savannah and Griffin are working together, you learn how they met and just how quickly they fell for each other. It is very much instalove yet in this type of scenario it works. These characters are so sarcastic to each other and I loved it!
Overall, I was rooting for Savannah and Griffin to succeed and potentially get their happily ever after. Unfortunately there were a couple of spots that just didn't fit into the story for me. They were too drawn out or simply just overdone even within a fantasy genre. Regardless, I still would recommend this to anyone who loves paranormal romances that include some action. It would be the perfect book to read for Halloween.

This weren't no "Mr. And Mrs. Smith but witches." What a disappointment. I didn't like any of the characters. I kept getting it confused with other witchy books I've read recently, there's too many now. It's like dystopian all over again. Every book is about contemporary witches!! And other books have just done it better. I really don't remember much about this except the past and present back and forth was annoying and I only read it 11 days ago.
Yes, this is a paranormal retelling of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Yes, it was ridiculous. And yes, I loved it.
I just love Gwenda Bond. Her "The Date from Hell / Not Your Average Hot Guy" duology was so much fun and I can't wait to get my hands on whatever she writes next.
A fun but slightly flawed take on the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith. For readers that enjoy light-hearted but predictable paranormal romances, this will be fun escapist reading. For me, the premise got old fast and ended a bit over the top.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced readers copy of this book.
This was a cute and love the story plot. I really enjoyed this book and it’s a book I do need in my library.
Mr. And Mrs. Smith but make it witchy! One of my all time favorite movies! I enjoyed the screen to book adaptation with this one and the witchy vibes.

I got this because I thought it was a re-telling of the Mr & Mrs Smith movie
I went in blind because I have a bad habit of downloading books with hopes and not reading the descriptions. But this story is good! Savy is an agent of CRONE and Griffin is a HUNTER agent himself. They both have secret identities and somehow manage to find love with one another 2hich is cute!
But on the day of their wedding, their identities get revealed, and everything goes down.
I liked the book overall and how the story is told. I also liked the side characters and would've wanted to see more of them.
Great read!!
This book has everything that you'd hope for. It included family drama, almost like a remake of Romeo and Juliet but add witches to it. I also enjoyed the twist and never saw it coming. I'm looking forward to adding it to our library catalog, but obviously marking out the spicy details so my students won't read that.
A perfect blend of romance, suspense, and a touch of humor, creating a unique and engaging reading experience. The chemistry between the main characters Savvy and Griffin is palpable, providing a strong emotional anchor amidst the chaos that surrounds them. The plot twists and turns keep the reader guessing until the final pages, making this novel a delightful and unpredictable adventure.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin and author Gwenda Bond for the opportunity to review the advance copy of this book.

Savvy & Griffin
You will love this couple. They were lovers and then mortal enemies and then lovers again.
This was a really fun book to read!
ARC by Netgallery, opinion by me.
This was a fun riff on the premise of the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith; instead of spies on opposing parties, it's a witch and a witch hunter. Savannah is in a whirlwind romance with Griffin when they first cross in London. As she continues to be assigned to missions worldwide, she continues to cross paths with Griffin. When Savvy is about to walk down the aisle to marry Griffin, they realize they never truly knew each other. Now that both of their lives are in danger, though, they realize that they were meant to love each other and fight for each other despite it all. It was a fun read from beginning to end.
A very fun, cute supernatural version of Mr & Mrs Smith. She's a witch.. he's a hunter.. is it possible that love can truly conquer all?
After a short, but passionate courtship, they Griffin and Savvy are ready to get married, until their wedding is interrupted by the respective heads of their secret organizations, spilling their secret identifies, and splitting them apart. but for how long?
Really enjoyed this sweet, fun romance with a witchy twist.
I almost gave up on this one about a quarter of the way in, but I decided to stick with it as it is October and it's a book about witches. I have been very much theme-reading this month. I am glad I stuck with it because it actually was a lot of fun. Dare I say it was charming?? The plot twists were fun and kept the story moving along. The side characters were also fun and interesting. It's campy, it's about witches - totally fun for an October read. I could really see this being made into a movie - the author's descriptions of the characters, the setting, even the spells were well-done and made it easy for me to conjure them in my mind. Puns aside, thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an early copy (I feel bad when I read them after the publishing date, but felt it was only appropriate to read this in October).
This was a super fun paranormal play on the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I thought the characters secretly being in opposed paranormal groups worked really well, but when they learn who the other really is they have to look closer into the organizations they are a part of. I wished there had been a little more to the conclusion, but overall it was a fun read with paranormal rom-com vibes.
