Alone With You in the Ether by Olivie Blake is a poignant and captivating novel that will resonate deeply with readers who appreciate complex, emotionally charged love stories, explorations of mental health, and philosophical musings on the human condition, making it a perfect fit for those who crave a literary romance that will leave them pondering the intricacies of the human experience long after the final page is turned.
This was such a unique read, the writing style flowed through my head so smoothly it felt like I was fully in these character's thoughts and such interesting thoughts! It's pretty rare that I enjoy both storylines when the story alternates perspectives but I was really into both of the main characters.
It's very obvious that the author is extremely intelligent which is why most of this book went completely over my head. The writing was definitely gorgeous and unique, unlike anything I've ever read before which is probably what kept me going, considering it took me months to finish a book that's not very long. The romance was okay, the sex scenes I definitely could have done without, they were super cringey. I hate to rate this book so low but I really didn't get any enjoyment out of this book. I didn't really care for Regan or Aldo as characters even though they both had decent character growth. I'm still going to give Olivie Blake's other books a try but I don't think her romance books are for m.e. Also it was really embarrassing the amount of times I was lost and confused in this book and I might need to look up cliff notes to fully understand everything.
Absolutely devoured this book. The writing was so beautiful and the hand holding in the church scene itself made it 5 stars for me.
Brilliantly written exploration of meatal health, becoming who you are and finding yourself along the way. Blake's prose is so delightful and lyrical, easy to get swept away!
This was a really interesting book. The characters are written to be pretty unlikable, so I wouldn’t say that I enjoyed it? But it was also something that I couldn’t put down. It was very well written, just like Olivie’s other work, but it was a little hard to get through because I wasn’t rooting for either MC. This is still something that I would recommended and I could see why it has so much hype around it.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy of Alone with you in the ether. this was an interesting read. It felt very distorted but also highly applicable. The ups and downs in this book, their mental health tell their own story. I feel as though the author really went along with what the characters wanted for this novel. Astounding writing, written like a play but also not. I at first thought it made it to read but then it felt very appropriate.
I loved this book. It's a quick read and set up in a unique way, which I love. This book is written sort of as a play, where there are narrators and side details. Honestly, it's how my ADHD brain works with the side bars and underlying background details--it's amazing. This story is excellent, the characters are great, but it makes you reflect, especially if you're mentally ill, and makes an excellent love story. It's incredible how this author created such an intense love story in under 300 pages, that was not only about love in a relationship, but for your mind as well. I highly recommend this book!
I felt that Blake's writing, while beautiful, is a bit too self-indulgent to the point of leaving the reader confused. The topics of conversation set-up for an eventual dip into time travel or a more fantastical exploration of it, as in Blake's previous works like The Atlas Six. This book suffers the same pit-falls that plagued the author's previous works: language that errs on the side of pretentiousness. A supplementary purchase for libraries who have a strong readership for Blake's previous work.
Alone with you in the Ether is a hauntingly beautiful story! Perfection from start to finish! Amazing work from Olivie Blake!
Another incredible and unique book from Olivie Blake! She is on my auto-read list now and I cannot see what else she creates.
Alone with You in the Ether was such a beautiful read about two imperfect people who love and fit so perfectly together. I loved both Regan and Aldo so, so much. I also enjoyed Aldo's father and the simple conversations he would have with his son, that meant so much to both of them!
Some might call this a "boring" read. Nothing really exciting is going on, but being inside the heads of these two was really something else. There were so many quotes that I tabbed and I thought there were a lot of funny parts as well.
I highly recommend this one! Olivie Blake is a genius!
I wasn't impressed with this book. I didn't like either of the main characters, and I found the whole book to be pretentious and a little boring. I haven't read anything else by this author, but this book didn't really make me want to read her other work, even though I've heard a lot of great things about her other series.
I absolutely loved this! It is my favorite of Blake's work that I've read so far. The story was incredibly beautiful, emotional, and tragic.
a beautiful love story, written in classic Olivia Blake style (aka stunning) . This book left me so emotional, I wasnt prepared for how much this gorgeous book would impact me
I actually ended up DNFing this book. While I loved The Atlas Six, this one just wasn't for me. Just because it wasn't for me though doesn't mean I won't consider it when recommending books to customers.
Alone with You in the Ether is about two people that are a bit broken, or a lot, struggling to exist in a neurotypical world that neither of them fit in, they find each other and what comes after is magic, honest, raw and human.
Blake uses a handful of interesting literary devices to shake up what would otherwise be a linear narrative (that's a little time & space reference...you'll see) and does a whole lot of excellent character development. I found it incredibly moving and well-written.
Thank you so much for an eARC! I really enjoyed this, and the audio is even more fantastic! Looking forward to more of Blake's work!
After finishing Blake's book The Atlas Six, I went into the book, hoping that I would fall in love with this book as I did that one. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I really wanted to like this, but I just couldn't get past the scatterbrained feel of the entire book. Granted, that might have been the idea, but I had a hard time picking this one back up after I would read for a while. Yes, the book is about two characters that have serious mental health issues, and after finishing the author's acknowledgments, I understand where she was coming from and commend her for that. I don't want to be too negative here because the book just wasn't for me. Thank you, NetGalley for the eARC. 2.5 stars.
This book was absolute chaos.....and I loved it! From the synopsis to the end I had the time of my life. These characters. What a chance encounter can do to change one's life. Fantastic read. This author has such a way with words.
