As a millennial with a record collection and a love for quirky record shops, I was drawn to this book based simply on the title and cover.

The book doesn't disappoint. It starts with three sisters reviving a family business, a murder, and the hectic investigation that follows. Toss in a little love triangle, and it's a solid recipe for success.

If you're looking for something less heavy but with enough intrigue to keep you entertained, this might be the book for you.

I loved the sisters and their relationships, their love for food, and the cat they adopted. I didn't much enjoy the ex-beau/current police investigator, but I'm not sure I was supposed to. This was a fun one, packed full of enjoyable music references.

Record Scratch… Blacke has done it again with this debut in the Record Shop Mystery series. Not only are the characters incredibly likable but Blacke effortlessly balances the clues and red-herrings to create a mystery that kept me guessing to the end. The fact that the book’s located in Texas and set in a record-slash- coffee shop, with plenty of fun drink names and great music shout outs, is a refreshing new entry in the cozy mystery market. This is a new favorite and I very much look forward to reading more of this series in the future.

I received this eARC thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Paperbacks in exchange for an honest review. Publishing dates are subject to change.

I loved Olivia Blacke's Brooklyn Murder Mysteries so no surprise that I love this new Record Shop series featuring Juni! What a fun, enjoyable read, following Juni and her sisters as they open a vinyl record shop only to have a dead body turn up at their opening party. It's up to Juni and her sisters to clear their uncle of the murder. Fun, engrossing, this is a new cozy mystery series that will entertain and make you laugh with the punny song/coffee drink names.

I received this ARC via Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press, in return for an honest review. This is a clever premise for the first book in a new cozy series. Set in a newly opened record shop and coffee bar outside Austin, Texas, USA, three interesting sisters co-own the Sip and Spin. When their grand opening ends with them finding a body in their supply closet, how can things possibly get worse? Until they do with the detention and subsequent disappearance of their Uncle Calvin who is a suspect in the murder. Juni (Juniper) is determined to find out what happened and save both Uncle Calvin and their shop, since they posted it as collateral for his bond. The premise has great potential for a series so it will be fun to see what happens next.

Vinyl Resting Place was the cozy mystery novel that everyone needs to read. I thought at some points i knew who the culprit was and other times i had no clue. Juniper was a fantastic MFC and i enjoyed her the entire time. There wasn’t one point during this novel in which she bothered me.

You get murder mystery, family, small town romance, love triangle, and more. I think what drew me to this book was because they owned a Coffee shop and record store all in one. I’ve grown to love vinyl over the years and it was nice to read another book about it. I wish we got more of Teddy in this book but; i can’t wait to read the next one. Thanks #NetGalley and #StMartinsPress for introducing me to Sip and Spin & for the early arc.

This was a fast-paced and well-written drama that I could not put down, quickly becoming a page turner as I had to know why this young woman was murdered and placed in the record shop. The author did a great job setting this up with a bevy of suspects and clues there and there, with just enough tease to keep me in the game. There were a few red herrings that would point to a few with some surprises that I did not see coming. I liked how the sister came together to sift through the clues, making it believable in what they wanted to accomplish. The secondary characters had pivotal roles and it was their action that would lead to the revelation of the killer’s identity and the motive. Good job in keeping me in suspense throughout most of the book, especially when I had that “aha” moment and knew who the killer was and enjoyed watching it all play out to the end.

A fun new mystery series, that’s sure to be a hit.. Three sisters open a new record shop in Texas and are excited until they find a body in the closet. Great characters, lots of fun.

A fun record shop outside Austin and a punny title. How could I resist? I mean, I still own vinyl records, so this one spoke to my heart. I'm glad I dropped in as it was a fun, quirky read, full of characters who were, well, characters, and lots of down-home, Texas country charm.

Even Uncle Calvin, who seems to tread only the edge of the law was likable, even if he created a major headache for the Jessup sisters, Tansy, Maggie (don't you dare call her Marigold), and main character Juni (Juniper). They've invested everything they have in Sip and Spin Records and when they find a body in their supply closet after the grand opening, Calvin is a suspect. He's arrested but disappears after they put up the shop as bail. The sisters, lead by Juni, set out to prove his innocence but, well, first they've got to find him. Hence, they have two mysteries to solve, who killed Monica Mayhew and where is Uncle Calvin. It's actually the second that dominates much of the book as, quite frankly, Juni doesn't even know the name of the victim for some time. In her defense, it's because everyone thought she'd recognized Monica since she's babysat her as a child.

While I found Juni likable, she didn't strike me as the person I'd want trying to prove my innocence of even a traffic ticket, however. Her investigative tactics are basic, in her defense not abnormal for someone new at it, and she's quick to not just jump to conclusions but confront suspects with accusations of being the murderer. Heck, she even accuses her own brother-in-law of being the murderer. What is Juni basing her accusations on? Will withholding information from ol' flame Beau, now detective, slow down the investigation? Will she get glitter bombed again? Who attacked her in Calvin's house? Why does she arrive at the shop on day to find it surrounded by firetrucks and rescue personnel? What is the "game" some are asking about? Is Beau using or or genuinely still attracted to her? How about ol' friend Teddy? Could he become more than a friend or is she still too tied emotionally to Beau? What could possibly go wrong when she borrows Calvin's unused truck? Uh, lots.

And, wait, enough teasers. This brand new series has promise and I look forward to seeing how it develops. As with most new series, the characters aren't fully fleshed out, so it'll be fun to get to know them as it progresses. Heck, even prankster Uncle Calvin was showing promise at the end. Thanks #NetGalley and #StMartinsPress for introducing me to Sip and Spin. I'm looking forward to many a return visit.

As soon as I read the title, I knew I had to read Vinyl Resting Place by Olivia Blacke. Junie Jessup moves back home to Texas after she loses her job due to the company going bust and opens up Sip&Spin Records with her sisters, in the same building her grandparents once ran a record store. Serving up coffee as well as records, the sisters are shocked to find a dead body in their supply closet at their grand opening party. If that wasn't bad enough, the lead detective is Junie's ex and he still knows how to push her buttons. When the sisters' Uncle Calvin is arrested and then takes off after they put the shop up to bail him out, Junie can't help but investigate the murder and her uncle's disappearance.

It took a bit of reading before I got into the story but once I did, it was hard to put down. I am already looking forward to the next installment.

Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Pub date: 12/27/22
Genre: cozy mystery, book 1 in the Record Shop Mysteries
One sentence summary: Sisters Juni, Tansy, and Maggie are risking it all to open Sip & Spin Records, a record/coffee shop, but a dead body and a disappearing uncle make for a rocky start.

I love a new cozy mystery series, and this one felt really special! The sisters have a great relationship, and I enjoyed getting to know all of them, especially MC Juni. The record store setting felt like a place I'd love to hang out, and I kept laughing at their drink-song puns (highlights include Shiny Frappe People, Excuse Me While I Kiss This Chai, and All the Single Lattes). The mystery was compelling and well-paced with a satisfying conclusion.

This new series has everything I look for in a cozy mystery, and I'm excited for book 2 and beyond!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for my NetGalley ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When Juniper moves back to Texas to re-open her family’s old record shop with her sisters things don’t go exactly to plan. Juniper discoverers a body in the shop’s supply closet at their opening party. To make things worse her ex is the lead detective on the case and is on the hunt for her uncle who is a prime suspect. Can Juniper and her sisters help solve the case and get their uncle out of suspicion? This was such a fun cozy mystery! The Austin setting and the record shop were characters themselves, and the banter between the sisters was great. The book highlights the importance of familial relationships and second chances. I highly recommend this new cozy mystery!

The record store angle attracted my attention to this cozy mystery about a former tech employee who returns to a small town near Austin, Texas to take over the family business. It was pleasant enough—the characters were mostly likeable—but I didn't feel like the stakes ever escalated to the point where I really cared about the mystery or not.

The murder itself took a backseat early on to the whereabouts of Uncle Calvin, and because of that, the biggest risk was that the protagonist would lose the record store they put as collateral for bail. Okay—but I don't think enough was done to make that feel like it was a life or death situation for the protagonist. She seemed to like the record store, and being with her family well enough, but I didn't get the impression she'd be utterly bereft if it did shut down. I was also skeptical that they'd pin the murder on the prime suspect in they way that they did: he had no motive whatsoever. I also felt like the solution was a bit haphazard; ultimately, the big reveal came down to noticing a detail that was independent of all of the investigating the protagonist did. Besides that, there was a lot of running madly around in all directions and, by the end, a number of flimsy false accusations.

I think the book might have benefited from another round of editing, as well. There was some striking repetition, as well as some phrasing that could have been tightened up. (For example, early on, there's a line that goes something like "I was third generation. If my sister ever had children, they would be the fourth." Yes, that's typically how generations work.

All in all, a bit of a pleasant diversion, but I don't think I'll be coming back to the series.

I adored this book. Blacke has such a clever, witty voice, and her characters are instantly engaging. I'll read anything she writes!

Quick thanks to Net Galley for this Arc! This was a cute, enjoyable read with lots of puns. There were some plot points that seemed a bit fishy to me and some repetition. I was confused about Juni’s money anxiety since she was constantly talking about it, but then she would order food without a second thought. Also, the twist was less climatic than it could have been (however, it still threw me off!). I guess I just have lots of questions about the justice that was served, etc.

But I’d definitely read the next record shop mystery! Can’t wait to see what this family gets up to next.

Step back in time to remember the days of vinyl records for your music pleasure. Also work along side the 3 sisters and their family and friends to solve a murder. Several romances to root for are occurring as well.

When Juni Jessup and her sisters Tansy and Maggie put all their beans in one basket to open Sip & Spin Records, a record-slash-coffee shop in Cedar River, Texas, they knew there could be some scratches on the track, but no one was expecting to find a body deader than disco in the supply closet.
This is a first in this series and a lot of fun. I love the sisters relationships. Overall a great start to a fun new series.

A rocking start to a new cozy series! I loved the vinyl hook and strong familial relationships, especially between Juni and her sisters. The witty coffee names and solid mystery cranked up the volume and made this book a winner. Eager to read the next installment!

Three sisters get the chance to reboot and reopen the old family record store. However during the opening celebration a young woman is found murdered in the store's supply closet. Posting bail for their uncle seems to be the right thing to do, even when it means using the store for collateral. Then Uncle takes off his monitor and skips town. Now Juni and her sisters must follow any lead they can to save not only their Uncle but the record store and their very future.

1st in series the record shop mysteries
I liked the sisters and the family dynamic. Juni is an interesting character and I loved her can-do attitude. I anxiously await the next in this series.
4 stars on goodreads
I received this book free from netgalley and give a fair and honest review.
