Loved this story of long time friendships and including an outsider to the mix. Family and strangers come together in an unexpected event.

Six teenagers and a child get trapped on a mountain after a flash flood covers their travel home. Steel does an excellent job of filling in the backstories of these kids and their families as well as what happens after their rescue. .This was a very quick, enjoyable read. I liked the setting but more importantly not all of the women had to be “saved” by a man at the end. I thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.

I don't know how Danielle Steel does it! She comes out with multiple books every year and they're all different topics. The Challenge is an easy-to-read book with a variety of interesting characters. The setting in Montana is beautiful and well-described. The story has a few scenes where kids are in danger - done well with the expected outcome. Is the plot predictable? Yes - but who cares. It's still an interesting look at familiar topics.

This was an enjoyable, easy read.

Ever since I read A Good Woman By Danielle Steel, I’ve been captured by her stories. They’re the perfect blend of family, love, sibling bonds and an event or series of events that defines their story. If you’re looking for a thriller, mystery or a cliffhanger, this won’t be for you. What you’ll get is a wholesome story with wholesome characters that do make you question your stance on the topics.
The challenge is a story of a few families living in Fishtail, which is a small town in Montana where everyone knows everyone. Enter Tom and his daughter, Juliet from New York who is tired of the city life and ready to live low key. The children in the town and Juliet get lost on the Granite Peak mountains and their survival is the first few chapters in the story. The way the kids maneuver through these impediments teaches us that in times of peril, always be calm. The rest of the story is built on the after effects of what happens after the incidents, how it alters the kids and the parents.
This book has it all. It has dense characters. Some of the major themes include divorce, infidelity, death of a parent, and how these affect children and the family in general. I found the book to be the truth bared on but a part of it is also because I’m biased towards Danielle Steel books. She’s always been my go to author and it’s her books that bring me to my original state or take me out of a reading slump. Overall, a wonderful and quick read, I liked this one very much!

Setting: Fishtail, Montana. I had no interest in that area. But this book makes it sound so peaceful and beautiful. The book chronicles the lives of several families in this small community who strengthen their bond when their children are trapped on a mountain for several days. Will they all be rescued? The story encompasses the death of a parent, teenage love, substance abuse, forbidden love and infidelity. But the story also includes love, loyalty, strength and examples of good parenting. It’s a story that addresses many problems we as parents face everyday. The decisions we make affect the lives of others.

The Challenge was an interesting story, introducing us to many different characters and families in a a small town in Montana. The story centered around seven kids getting stuck on a mountain and how their parents banded together during their rescue. Friendships developed and relationships endured during this time. Danielle Steel’s descriptions of the mountains in Montana made you feel as if you were there. Thank you for the chance to read this book.

The Challenge, by Danielle Steele is set in Fishtail Montana and follows a similar style Danielle Steele is known for. The Pollocks are high school sweethearts, who own a huge ranch that is the center of activity, for most of the local teens. Their son Peter Pollock, had a tight group of friends and life is good. But as life goes, their friends and their families are all struggling against something. Their friendship though, keeps them balanced. When a new girl comes to town, she too joins the group and they spend all their time together. They take hikes, trail rides with horses and hang out most days. On one particular day, they lose their way on the mountain and have to work together to get back home. Their parents also have to keep calm, put their differences aside and wait for their kids. Their are a few continuous story lines. I love how Steele intertwined them all. She develops such interesting characters and I always like to see how things work out. I am always excited to receive an early copy of Danielle Steeles novels. They are easy reads and they never seem to let me down. I want to thank Netgalley & the author for my copy, for an honest review. It was my pleasure to read and review this book. I hope you enjoy it too!!!

Danielle got it perfect with this one. She seems to be writing better and better these days

There is so much going on in this book and it showcases happy days and brutally honest and terrible days

It is not all rainbows and butterflies in real life and Danielle's characters experience heartache and disaster as they come together through it all.

Recommend.

Thank you so much Danielle Steel, NetGalley, and the publisher for granting me an advance copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.

Danielle never once has let us down when writing her books. This one is about a small town, new residence have moved in, townspeople are wonderful and bring the new members in. Tragedy happens but the town pulls together and we see what can happen when people work together.
After the tragedy is resolved Danielle tells us more about the people in the town making us fall in love with all of them and wish them only the best. Can they do that for each other or will old feelings rear their ugly heads causing more trouble. Small towns can be great but have their problems to.
Danielle thank you for another wonderful book.

The Challenge by Danielle Steel seemed a bit more cramped with characters and their stories than usual, but I enjoyed the characters. Relationships bud between adults and some fall apart. The children get swept up in a storm that leaves them lost in the wilderness and they work together to stay safe and be found.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press for this ARC.

The Challenge by Danielle Steel is an engaging story. Fishtail, Montana is a small town that is perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors and a laidback lifestyle. There is horseback riding, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, and so much more. There are friendly neighbors who watch out for each other. In the first couple of chapters, we get to meet the various characters. There are adults and teenagers as well as a six-year-old (it will take time to keep the characters straight). I thought the characters were realistic and relatable. I enjoyed the beautiful descriptions of Montana. I like Danielle Steel’s engaging writing style. She draws the reader into the story and keeps them hooked. The Challenge is about more than seven kids getting stuck on Granite Peak. It is a story about friendships, family, loss, heartache, and love. We get to see how the kids being lost on the mountain impacts the families and the aftermath. The time the kids were lost on the mountain affected each person differently. I found the second half of the book is more compelling than the first. I really wish the author had included an epilogue (say a year after the book ended). The Challenge is a book that captures your full attention, so you are unaware of what is going on around you (and you get annoyed when someone interrupts you). Life is full of challenges. Some of them are small and other are life threatening. In this book, we get to see how the characters react to a large challenge. Each decision we make takes us down a different path. Our choices affect others in our lives. The story does contain foul language and intimate relations (just to let you know). I enjoyed The Challenge, and I was sorry when I finished it. It was interesting to see how each family’s story turned out. The Challenge is a compelling tale with firm friends, trail troubles, a big bear, a serious search and rescue, parent disputes, a troubled teen, and rocky relationships.

The Callenge by Danielle Steel
What a heart -warming story about a small town and how the community are there in the good times and bad. This book has it all. There is suspense, love and life lessons. It's about family! The characters were amazing and well written. The book was such a page-turner that it was hard to put down.

I received this copy from the publisher for a honest review. All thought and opinions are mine and mine alone.

So many things happen in a small town, and this book involves mountains, hiking and challenging relationships in life. Following several families as they navigate what life throws at them. Children and parents and their relationship makes for a very interesting book. I highly recommend reading this!

Of the Danielle Steele books that I’ve read in the past, none have had a storyline like this. I loved the plot of the story as it really captures your attention. You find yourself starting to really enjoy the small town of Fishtail and the everyday buzzings of its people. However, I found that there were so many characters that I was finding myself very confused at who was related, friends, parents, etc. I also found the writing to be somewhat two dimensional. I felt as if I was overlooking the characters, watching them go through the motions which made it hard for me to truly relate and understand what the characters were going through in this book. Additionally, I found that there was extremely limited details and plot-line regarding the childrens’ “challenge.” It seemed to peak your interest when the kids began to survive on their own but as soon as you became curious it seemed like it was just over with no major climax to keep you reading and wanting more.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I really enjoyed the first half of the book where six teenagers and a six year old were stranded on a mountain. I really thought the whole book was going to be based on their survival/rescue but it was not. The second part of the book was the lives of the parents of the 7 stranded on the mountain. It was hard to follow at times because one paragraph would be talking about one adult and the next paragraph about another adult. It was a quick read for me because I kept waiting for something to happen. It was just okay.

I loved this one from Danielle Steel! Fresh from a rotten divorce, finance man Tom moves himself to Fishtail, Montana for a fresh start. Leaving behind his ex-wife and daughter, he has a lot to ajust to as he moves from high-speed city life to the slower-paced outdoorsy life in Montana. When his teenage daughter, Juliet, comes to visit, the broken family has no idea what they're in for.

Juliet is quickly welcomed by the local boys. Everything changes one afternoon when what started as a harmless adventure turned into the news story of the century. Thanks to a flash flood, the children find themselves desperate to survive. Trapped in Granite Peak, the kids battle the elements and deteriorating health. The almost tragedy affects everyone differently. Some struggle to adapt, and some are stronger than before. In typical Steel fashion, we see how the disaster changes everyone, as friends become enemies and lovers, and emotions are at an all-time high.

A quick and easy read in a different setting than I'm used to, reading The Challenge was a great way to spend this beautiful fall feeling afternoon!

Ms Steele is amazing. She continues to evolve and we are the better for that curiosity. The title refers to a challenge. A title that works on several levels. We have Anne and Pitt Pollack, a couple who have built a life that is steeped in community and hard work. They have a son Peter, who has two friends whose families have seen each other face crisis and change in their town of Fishtail, Montana. Here we have the nucleus of the story. Tom Marshall is facing a crossroads and believes the town of Fishtail may hold the answer he needs. Moving from New York with its crushing pressures and frenetic life will give his the peace he wants. A move that his wife greets with disbelief and derision; Tom moves and sets a course that will touch his wife and his daughter, Juliet profoundly. Juliet visits her father and slowly comes to see her father and his choices in a different light. Beth reluctantly finds a balance that she can accept. The Pitts prove that support changes as kids mature, and community expands. It is a beautiful read.
