I enjoyed the story of Jake and this page turning thriller. I’m a huge fan of Chad Zunker, love all of his books. Highly recommend. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
First of all, don't start this book at night...you won't get to sleep because you won't want to stop reading until the end. This is a talented and gifted author at writing a cannot put down novel. The characters are likable...most of them...the story is fiction that reads like nonfiction, at times. The story moves quickly...no wasted words...the descriptive passages make the story work. I was hooked from the beginning...the father, the main character, was someone that might live next door...up the street...in another town...he was real...he came alive on the pages...this book was sent to me by Negalley for review...Thanks to the publisher for the electronic copy. I look forward to more novels by this amazing author.
This book has Denzel Washington, and Liam Neeson action/thriller vibes written all over it. It reminds me of all the crazy hypothetical made-up scenarios I create in my head and would act out if I had to risk my life to save my loved ones. In my head, I'm much more of a Mama Jama than in real life. I don't have a particular set of skills acquired over a very long career like Liam Neesen but a reader can pretend. I would hope or imagine that I'd be half as determined and resourceful as Jack. Just when I began to assume I knew where the story was going, new details emerge that made me really just not want to put the book down. The details don't feel like info that's intentionally withheld to keep a story going., The story is short while the reader is still able to build a connection to Jack and his daughter, it also does not take long for the story to pick up and get moving. This book really feels like it was either meant to be a series that has the potential to really delve into the dynamic of the families involved in the story. I'll leave it at that to avoid spoilers for those who want to enjoy the book.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Thomas & Mercer and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Fast paced and enjoyable, parts are predictable- still a good read.
This was a great story of greed, family secrets, judgement and a father's fight to save his daughter. There are many actors at play, all with their own motives. This is all woven together so well that it makes a wonderful whodunit! Just as you think you are pulling back the layers on this one, you find another level to the intrigue. There is so much action and discovery - you'll be sitting on the edge of your seat. You will wonder how a home-town coach can be so resourceful; but he is not fantastical or a super-hero, just a man with the conviction to persevere. There were just a few things in the story that made me think, 'hmmnn,' but they were not integral to the story and easily glossed over. This book was entertaining and I very much enjoyed it!
This book was not what I expected, but in a good way. I read this entire book in one day...I couldn't put it down. Jake faces so much trauma - his wife is murdered and then his daughter is kidnapped. On top of that, his in-laws hate him. Jake has to find a way to save his daughter while figuring out who is trying to hurt his family. This book was exciting and full of suspense. Even though I had an idea of where the story was going, there were still many twists and turns along the way. I'm definitely going to check out more books by this author!
Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for this ARC.
Unlike the previous reviews, I could not get into this book. Slow moving. I went to the back to see what happened and it was all utterly predictable. not for me.
Very good book. This is the 2nd Chad Zucker book I read and both were great reads. Story was interesting and had great action, which kept me glued to the book. Recommend
The pace of this book was intense and the whole thing was brilliantly written and keeps the reader excited to know what’s next. Brilliant work, keep it up!
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
Jake has been through so much. His wife was killed in a hit and run, his father-in-law fought a custody battle for Jakes’s daughter and now…. His daughter is kidnapped.. As cousin Catlin lay dying after being shot she said Piper knows the truth. Then the cops are there thinking Jake killed her so if he wants to find his daughter he will have to run, Why was she taken? How many more will be killed? He must find out the truth or die trying,,, but most of all he has to find Piper.
This is only my second read of Chads I loved Family money so I was happy to be approved for this one and let me tell you! It was so good I’m a huge fan of short chapters I just kept wanting more and more and then it ended and I was so sad! I loved how fast paced And suspenseful this book was as Jake searchers for Piper. The development of the characters Jake and Dani were well developed and believable. Chad really conveys Jakes love for his daughter. This definitely needs to be on everyone’s reading list you wont regret it!
All He Has Left was remarkable. I never expected anything when I read this book. But it was so good!
All He Has Left by Chad Zunker is fast paced, action-packed and has really short chapters. I was unable to put this book down but be real, there’s just so many things to do. Anyways, it was worth it.
Jake lost his wife after the tragic hit-and-run, all he has left is his daughter, Piper who he was nearly lost too. A year later, Jake brought his daughter to his in-laws house to celebrate her daughter’s birthday. He was reluctant at first but he didn’t want her daughter to hate him because everything has changed after she lost her mother.
The night on his daughter birthday party, his daughter was kidnapped and Jake became the most wanted guy and he also hunted by an assassin. Jake was so desperate to find his daughter. The closer he’s gotten to the truth, the more family secrets and betrayals he found out. So much conflict, affairs, family drama and mistrust.
This was absolutely a thrilling crime and mystery book. The storyline was perfect to me. The plot twist was so good. Such an emotional read too. I had a blast reading this book, all the time I was imagining the situations and how the actions playing in my head. Even the small details, like I was watching a crime movie.
It is highly recommended. Thank you Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing this book. If you are lucky, maybe this is still available on “Read Now” shelf.
Recently widowed Texas high school football coach, Jake Slater, has always been a disappointment to his uber-rich in-laws who felt he was too lower class for their daughter Sarah and even blame him for her accidental death in a hit-and-run. But even after a bitter custody battle, he’s still bound to them by virtue of his 13 year old daughter, Piper, and after a year, he has finally come to visit them again since they are having an elaborate birthday party for their granddaughter. But as he’s picking Piper up from her cousin’s Caitlin’s home, he finds Caitlin shot and in a dying breath saying “Piper knows the truth.” Jake sees Piper being bundled into a tow truck. Of course, the awful in-laws arrive to suggest Jake may have killed Caitlin. The police view him as a suspect — and Jake takes off.
At this point, the thriller becomes incredibly fast-paced and suspenseful as Jake searches for Piper. Caitlin was an analyst for the FBI, so an agent in her office, Dani Nolan, is quickly assigned to the case. Dani, coincidentally, is a former girlfriend of Jake’s, which complicates her participation in the investigation.
I loved this thriller! It was unputdownable! The characters of Jake and Dani were well-developed and believable. Mr. Zunker really conveys Jake’s love for his daughter. It was impossible not to root for the best outcomes for each character. 5 stars! This needs to be on everyone’s winter reading list!
Thank you to Thomas and Mercer and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review!
Literary Pet Peeve Checklist:
Green Eyes (only 2% of the real world, yet it seems like 90% of all fictional females): YES Piper has the “brightest green eyes” according to her dad, until two-thirds into the book, Dani thinks Piper has Jake’s “blue-sky” eyes. Hmmmm.
Horticultural Faux Pas (plants out of season or growing zones, like daffodils in autumn or bougainvillea in Alaska): NO Nothing more than a broken vase of flowers.
All He Has Left by Chad Zunker is a fast-paced crime thriller. Twists and turns kept me cheering for the good guy and turning pages to the end. If you like stories full of greed, money, power, suspicions and family relationships, you will enjoy this book.
I do like a thriller, and this is the kind of thriller that you can read between other books as a little pallet cleanser (as it were.)
I found I liked the authors writing style, it was smooth and he did not add in unnecessarily big words just to make himself look smart. The characters are realistic, you can sympathise with them and cheer them on when they need it.
The story has some twists, as you'd expect, and the story was a fun ride.
“All He Has Left” is a thrilling, quick read by author Chad Zunker. I was initially intrigued by the premise: Jake Slater’s wife dies in a hit-and-run accident, but one year later, another family member is murdered and another one is kidnapped, so was it really an “accident” after all? The pacing of this book is quick: it is full of action and devoid of slow parts that detract from the story. It was an easy and fun afternoon read. I’d read more by this author!
Whether writing a series or a standalone, the author knows his way through an excellent story. In this quick-paced novel, murder, kidnapping, murder-for-hire, dysfunctional families, and more are woven together with well-developed characters to create an exciting tale.
Good book! This book went a little different than I thought it would, but good different! This book had suspense, intrigue, action packed, murder, mystery, a hit man and quite a few crazy twists! the storyline was very interesting and had my heart pounding and kept me glued to my kindle! I definitely enjoyed reading this one! I will recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
From the first chapter, this book grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go.
I was so impressed by the writing of this story. The characters are well fleshed out, I truly enjoyed reading this one.
A great action-packed full of suspense, amazing thriller, it has it all and it will have you turning the pages just as fast.
The surprise ending will blow readers away.!

Thomas & Mercer,

This was an absolute blast to read! I read it almost in 1 go, but still in just 1 day. It's All He Has Left by Chad Zunker. I received it via Netgalley from Thomas & Mercer and it will be out on 21 February.
Jake Slater loses his wife in a horrible car accident and almost loses his daughter as well in the custody battle with his in-laws that follow in the months after the accident. He moves away but a year later returns with his daughter. But then, his daughter gets kidnapped and people around are getting killed. Jake follows all leads to get his daughter back, and nothing will stop him.
This was an absolute thrill and I couldn't put it down at all. Fast-paced, action-packed and twitst you stumble across. The characters are decently worked out that you get to know them enough. The storyline was also perfectly fine. I had such a blast reading this and I can't wait to read some of his other works!
