The text is, of course, meant more for the adults. It's meant to pull on the heartstrings of new parents, and if they haven't found a way to give voice to their feelings, hopes and fears alike, this is a great catharsis. Each page is a promise to the child, and also a bit of guidance for the parent, from Dr. Roberts. The book even ends with a brief description of Dr. Roberts's "7-Point Parental Compass."
For the little ones, the colors are vibrant and the shapes have a good flow. Images are minimalistic, but still retain the essence of the object. People, trees, furniture, etc. This should be quite eye-catching for newborns. though it might not hold too much interest for slightly older kids expecting a bit more story and interaction.
Overall, pretty good. This could be picked up as a baby shower gift!
Such a lovely and exquisitely sweet book! Through stunning illustrations and calm, simple words, a caregiver assures their child that they are loved and will be cared for. This would make a great bedtime book to affirm the affection between a child and their grownup and a beautiful sentiment to carry into sleep. This would be a fantastic shower or new baby gift!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Wow— this book is beautiful; the message, the illustrations. This is a book that would make a beautiful gift. The feeling of unconditional love is a beautiful promise from any parent/caregiver. This book is one I wish I was read as a child and will read and reread to my children.
Thank you so much for this gorgeous preview!
I love the message of this board book. It is one that children everywhere in the world should know and keep within their heart. They need to know without a doubt that they are loved unconditionally every single day by their parents and caregivers.
When that truism is locked into their hearts they become well-rounded and resilient people.
The powerful inspiring message is simple and aims to strengthen the parent-child bond and support families in becoming effective problem solvers. The illustrations are colourful and beautifully done.
Dr. Jillian Roberts offers a 7-Point Parental Compass to help families face the complex issues of our modern world. She is the author of the best selling "Just Enough" series and "World Around Us" series. I highly recommend this book.
My Promise is a very sweet book about a parent taking care of their child. I really loved the supportive tone of the book and the illustrations were nice too.
An excellent and succinct visual representation of Dr. Roberts' 7-Point Parental Compass theory. The illustrations were very beautiful and clean.
This picture book reaffirms a child's need for attachment and protection from their parental figure(s). Through the course of the story the author mentions problems that could occur, for example, making a mistake, or needing help, and the promise that a guardian will take care of the child. It is a nicely written and well illustrated book with a variety of families and diverse characters represented. The text is simple and the language is positive and affirming. I would recommend this book to parents of children in the age 3-7 range, especially any children in care or living with other relatives and/or may have experienced previous trauma or attachment issues. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book was a sweet reminder of the unconditional love caregivers have for their children. As an educator I love that this book translates across a variety of family dynamics and can be relevant for all caregivers. As caregivers it’s easy to get caught up in your dreams for a child, but this book serves as a reminder that it’s their path and we are here to guide them and love them on their journey.
