Thank you to the publishers, NetGalley and the author for the free copy of this audiobook.

I sadly could not get into this audiobook, the narration was not for me and I had to put it down. I am hoping to pick up the physical novel soon!

Thank you!

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

I'm on the fence on this one. It took me a little while to get used to the narrator's style and I think that threw me off a little, but even once I did I couldn't quite get into this. I think the plot was very interesting and can see some people really liking this! I just wasn't 100% on it. Overall the flow was pretty good and had some decent characters and good action.

This is a story about trying to find what matters when the smoke clears.

I don’t feel I can fairly review this book, as the audio just really really didn’t work for me. The attempts at accents, cadence etc completely took me out of the story. I’m sure it will work for some listeners! To be fair to the work, I plan to read it before officially reviewing the book, as there were some really cool concept here.

Thank you so much Netgalley & Tantor Audio for the Alc!

When the Dust Fell
by Marshall Ross

In the vein of collapse theory, and dissolution of societies, this book looks at the world after contact with an alien species. The struggle to survive, the conflict of expectation, and the in ability of people to do the destruction of all world powers. It looks into our ability to see the fractures and cracks in American culture.

This review is of the audiobook only. I could not get all the way through this one for one reason: The narration is not good. The narrator is very monotone, so much so that I could not follow her. When she tried different voices for different characters, they were not done well. The narrator does not appear to have any training in doing voices or reading with expression.

This rating does not reflect on the book itself. I could not get past the narrator to figure out what was going on with the book. It gets 2 stars only because the fault is not with the book itself. The narrator gets one star..

When The Dust Fell

I am trying to think of a way to review this book without being totally negative, but I can’t. This book did nothing for me. It felt and sounded flat.

I wanted to really like this book. But it had all the details and none of the details. The characters were all surface level. But the details of the world were all too much. It's a great book if you want to know all the details of a post apocalyptic usa. Its not terrible. but it could have been so great. it has the best bones.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to listen to this audio book in return for an honest review.

Synopsis
Sarah Long is looking for peace in a broken world. The fact that she helped break it, is only the start of her problems.

When Sarah Long gets the message that her sister is alive and needs rescuing, she packs a bag with survival gear, loads a coat with six kinds of weapons, and hopes her pregnancy won’t slow her down.

It’s been three years since the ancient, city-sized ship was discovered. And three years since it turned half the planet into deserts of black dust.

Sarah’s treacherous journey will cross continents and an ocean, as well as the lines between Earther and Alien, friend and foe. The dangers, though, go beyond the brutal reality of the lawless world she travels.

For the last three years the mysterious ship has been Sarah’s home. And she knows its powers.

And there are those who will do absolutely anything to get them.

I’ve broken two golden rules of my own here, which are never dnf and just skip a review less than 2, but I can’t here I literally couldn’t carry past the first 5 chapters. I’m all honestly I couldn’t even tell if the writing was good or not, the narration is horrific, slow, robotic and seemed to incorporate about 5 or 6 really diverse accents. As I say. I hate doing this but it’s the worst narration I’ve ever heard. I have no clue what I’ve even listened to. Sorry. If anyone reads it in written form I’d be keen to know if it is purely the narration letting it down.

I got this audiobook from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

My problem I think was the narrator. She drove me bananas, she paused every 2-3 words even when there wasnt a need for a pause. I tried to speed it up but it wasn't good. You could hear her breathing into the microphone the ph ph ph sounds. Her monotone voice had me struggling to keep up with what was going on with the story, she did accents to a character but it wasn't very good, it was hard to understand.

The story itself was pretty okay, I had to look the book up and see if this was book number 2 of a series, I would have liked to know how things came to actually be, how did Sarah get involved with the aliens, how did all of this get to this point? I thought the book was well written from what I could understand of it, but was missing some things.

I’m not a big sci-fi fan but this story was pretty realistic in how cultures would act with such devastation. Being an audiobook keeping track of where the events were taking place was a challenge but the narrator gave a few hints, so I kept up! I would recommend this book for a change of pace. Get lost in a divided world.

Sara wants peace in a world that is broken for sometime. In the city, its been 3 years since it was discovered and also it affected the planet in a horrible way. Dust is the main character and Sarah must tread through it to find her sister, all awhile being pregnant . While I really liked the concept of this book and the cover is what originally caught my attention. I did not like the book overall, maybe its a "its not you its me" kind of situation but it fell flat for me and I wanted more.
