Meesh is a young demon girl living with her grandma at Mount Lava. She is teased for liking flowers & fairies, and not doing well in demon subjects at school, such as flying and breathing fire.
One night (daytime for demons), something terrible happened; the lava started turning everyone to stone! Meesh had fallen down a hill, saving her, so she decided to look for help. The only help she could imagine was the magic ruby of Princess Nouna from the popular tv show.
However, meeting the real Nouna was a disaster which led to an adventure through foreign lands where they met different creatures, avoided being eaten, and even made some friends.
What they don't know is that there is a deeper conspiracy behind all of it! (See more in the books to come.)
Caution: One theme involves "stealing for a greater good," and another is non-specific atrocities against one race (but the main characters overcome and forgive the past).
3/5 Stars

What an adorable art style, color palatte, and protagonist! Highly recommeded for middle grade fans of She-Ra or Steven Universe, this is a great new series starter to add to any graphic novel collection.
I really enjoyed this graphic novel!
From the art and the storyline, I think this is going to be the beginning of a very wonderful series that I can't wait to dive into fully.
The worldbuilding was immediately immersive and you find yourself connecting instantly to Meesh and her story - the only draw back is really that I don't have anything else to say about it. It's what it says on the tin, fun, delightful and a promising beginning to a new series. But this did feel a lot like setting up for the future!
I loved the friendships that were explored in particular and the relationship between Meesh and her grandmother. I can't wait to see what happens next!
What a treat! Meesh the Bad Demon is about a girl who is trying to figure out who she is as a demon who just wants to be good. When disaster strikes Mount Magma, home of the demons, Meesh seeks help from fairy princess Nouna, From there, they go on a wild adventure, making new friends and overcoming their differences.
This was too cute. I loved the art. The coloring for all the different places Meesh and Nouna explore was perfect, and each character had so much personality. I loved how the author used the art to show dark and light combining as Nouna and Meesh continued to work together. The artwork is just so nice, and I know young readers will be drawn to it.
I really loved the friendships in this. I think seeing these characters overcome their differences will be really valuable to my students who read this. Everyone is easy to root for, despite their flaws. I loved that everyone had a part to play in saving the day, and each of them was a hero in their own right. Meesh was especially easy to love, and her journey of self-discovery was really satisfying. I do think there is some queerness hinted at here, and I am so eager to see if I'm right about this. There were definitely a lot of middle school crush moments. Ultimately, this was so great and I can't wait to see what Meesh gets up to next.
Meesh is a 'bad' demon but is still having problems fitting in the underworld. Great graphic novel about the push and pull of 'good' and 'bad.'
The 1st thing that stuck out to me when reading this was the illustrations, and then I was quickly engulfed in the world that was being built. This graphic novel has so much character and charm, it's also a perfect spooky season read.
Meesh the demon is not very good at being a demon. Her fire breathing is awful, as is her poison spit and horn sharpening skills. Meesh would much rather be a fairy like her favorite television show character. When all the demons turn to stone, Meesh seeks help to free them and makes some new friends in the process.
This was so, so cute. The artwork was absolutely adorable. The story was also very sweet. This lovely graphic novel has a little bit of everything...fantasy, mystery, adventure, humor, unlikely friendships, even more unlikely heroes, It also touches on bullying, feeling out of place, family, and so much more. I think this book has something for everyone! I recommend this beautiful book to any reader that enjoys beautiful art and graphic novels.
Once we established Meesh's personality and "faults" as a demon, this story becomes lightning-fast! Meesh is thrust into the role of becoming Mount Magma's savior and for the first time in her life leaves her home.
Racism and a history of conquest and violence are present in this graphic novel. But Meesh, Nouna, and Xavier's responses to discovering the history of the fairies and demons is uplifting.
Despite the dark themes, Meesh's story is still light-hearted and warm. And! It's just beginning!
This was a charming read. The art was cute, pleasing and very expressive. The story was also pretty solid for a middle grade read! It dealt with themes of prejudice and perception of others in a way that was not overstated to it intended audience, nor glossed over. Meesh is a good character to follow on this journey, she's brave and kind with room to grow into herself. The ensemble cast is fun too! From Meesh's grandma and Xavier, to the fairies and the wolf, everyone brought something into to the story. I was happy that this book didn't end in the middle of the story or on cliffhanger, but I am also excited for more in the series. I liked my time with Meesh, I'd love to come back.
This was adorable! The art work was really cute and the story was fun and interesting without being to complex for kids. I'm excited that we'll be getting more volumes as well.
This is definitely a graphic novel that I am going to recommend because it really is suitable for all ages. Plus there is something for everyone. Definitely give this a shot. Its short and super sweet. You're bond to love it.
I've been following Michelle Lam's art accounts for a long while now and I love her work. When I saw she had created a graphic novel I had to read it. It did not disappoint! The characters were enjoyable, the story is interesting and easy to follow along, and the art is gorgeous. I cannot wait for the next volume!
Meesh the Bad Demon has all of my favorite elements of a great cartoon for elementary schoolers: memorable character designs, menacing shadowy figures to hint at future installments, and surprisingly deep themes. For kids who enjoy She-Ra or Infinity Train, this graphic novel is a no-brainer.
I had so much fun reading this graphic novel. The cast of characters are funny without resorting to constant quips, irony, or one-liners. The stakes are high and the action is framed so that it feels fast and fluid.
I really enjoyed my time with Meesh the Bad Demon and my only disappointment is that I can't buy it for my library collection yet, because I know that the kids at my library will love it.
I can't wait to see what happens next with Meesh and her friends!
Adorable illustrations and fun characters. I would enthusiastically recommend this title to elementary and middle school readers.
