We just recently received a diagnosis in our family and this book has so many great ideas on how to reframe your thinking since that is a huge setback is just negative thinking or overthinking - they had so many types that I want to re-read and process.
Also, they discussed long term goals and how to set and stick to them . They have to be physical goals that are attainable not immeasurable things. As well as social interactions, organization, time management,
So many helpful activities and examples that sound very useful. I'm really excited to get this book and flag it for reference.
If I didn't have ADHD, I probably would've succeeded in finishing and reviewing this book in a timely fashion.
Overall helpful with how it is broken down and explained. Plus how easy it is to read and apply actionable things.
Decent explanations and helpful tips though nothing that was overly eye opening in comparison to other ADHD books. I did enjoy the overall tone of the book and the authors writing style though.
Practical and functional — I read this as someone who lives in a household with people with ADHD, and not someone who has ADHD myself, so I'm not sure how useful it is for people actually LIVING with ADHD. That said, I've read many of these tips for success before; it's handy to have them all in one place for reference.

This is a comprehensive book covering symptoms and conditions related to ADHD. My daughter was diagnosed in the 1980s and I spent years trying to get assistance for her. I wish there was a book like this available to me then so I could have helped her. The tips for mindfulness and meditation to gain focus are wonderful. I recommend this book to anyone that dealing with ADHD.
Out of the past few self-help mental health books I've read lately, this has been the best one. This is a wonderfully written book full of great advice, easy-to-follow tasks and suggestions, "check your focus" sections to ensure you are on task, and lots of other goodies.
I picked this up because I am not diagnosed, but have always wondered if I have ADHD or even without it if methods made specifically for those with ADHD may be of help to me to keep organized. The suggestions in this book are great for all to use, and the specific chapters break down every aspect of how to live a relatively organized life, even with all the chaos that can be an ADHD brain.
Definitely recommend this one myself, but be sure to read other reviews from those who are diagnosed first to see if this is a proper fit for you.
Interesting book with some good tips. This would be a good. book for anyone who just recently got a diagnosis. It has a good overview and good tips to get someone started on a journey to learning more about their ADHD.
What an amazing read. As someone diagnosed late in life with ADHD this resonated with me deeply. I enjoyed the insight into the why and the how of the way I am.
My husband was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and I found most of the information in this book to be extremely helpful.
Some of it sounded like common sense, but I can understand why it was included. It is obvious that the author put a lot of research into this topic and I found it to be well-written and easy to follow.

This book is very practical which helps you pinpoint how to work around some if the common aspects of dealing with ADHD, without medicating. Quite interesting.
This is a great place to start if you have just been diagnosed with ADHA. If you have done any kind of research though, it will be a little bit repetitive. Overall, a great book!
This is a good practical resource for adults living with ADHD who would like to manage symptoms and work around executive function issues in order to make their lives smoother. This book covers general organization, motivation, work/study habits, and strategies to manage issues that are common in social relationships for people with ADHD. The chapters all have a consistent style which present information in varied formats including lists, questions, and personal anecdotes. Each section ends with a brief summary to reinforce key ideas.
The tone is positive and encouraging. No shaming or judgment is offered and readers are encouraged to consider their strengths and the upsides of an ADHD brain. This would definitely be a worthwhile read for anyone looking to avoid some of the pitfalls and frustrations that can come from ADHD.
This might actually be one of the very few books on being an adult with ADHD that I would recommend and that I found quite helpful. Most of the research and books about ADHD talk primarily about children, which isn't really useful for adults, especially for those diagnosed later in life when you're well-outside of school-age.
The book was filled with some very solid research and great advice with dealing with ADHD as an adult. I would highly recommend it to anyone that may have ADHD, knows someone struggling with ADHD, or just anyone curious it.
A huge thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for me giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Where has this book been all my life? I was only recently diagnosed with ADHD and finally getting that diagnosis was life changing. It actively impacts my day to day life and is one of the reasons I dropped out of college after 5 years. If I had had even half of the tips in this book I’m certain I would have had a much more pleasant experience. Getting to this point without this book? Was miserable. I learned so much while reading it I was literally taking notes as I went. What a gift! Thank you for taking the time to help me and my fellow adults with ADHD because this is truly life changing work.
This book was easy to read and specifically designed for ADHD brains to focus and comprehend. It was structured beautifully and had genuinely helpful and applicable tips every single chapter.
Excuse me while I go gift this book to every single person in my family lol.
Book Review AND Lovely Lloyd Living by Life-changing Literature Post (still working on that title 😅)
Firstly, thank you to @dr.abigaillevriniforsjc @americanpsychologicalassoc and @netgalley for an eARC of this book releasing tomorrow!
I was diagnosed with adult ADHD in November last year and had very little background to the disorder. This book was a brilliant starting place for me as a newbie.
The examples used are extremely helpful, the tips and suggestions are specific and the book is very nicely formatted with cute little reminders to make sure you are actually paying attention.
The discussion of comorbidities with anxiety and depression was extremely useful. Particularly, in piecing together how a significant part of my own life fell apart in 2022 for me to end up with this diagnosis and proper treatment.
I have obtained all my organisation tools, timers, cute pens and beautiful stickers in preparation of living by this book for the next four weeks. This book is very much focused on setting and achieving long term goals so I can't think of a better place to start this journey.
This is the second edition of Succeeding with Adult ADHD and I believe that for what it is, a general introduction overview and guide, it is perfect.
Wish me luck 🥰
This book is full of helpful information and strategies for people with ADHD. I especially appreciate the way information is broken down, accounting for the fact that ADHD can make it challenging to read for extended periods of time. The book was also full of empathy and I learned a lot about how my brain works and how I can be kinder to myself when I run into obstacles that are hard to explain to neurotypical people. I will say I wish I think this book would be more effective in print so that I can actually highlight and write in it as I go, but I’ll just have to wait until it’s out so I can get a physical copy for that.
I definitely found some of the information in here to be helpful, and plan to apply some of the suggested strategies. That said, the format for the ARC was wonky and very distracting (especially for someone with ADHD!) , so I’m looking forward to a cleaner format once it’s published. I was also hoping for an even more approachable layout—even though the content wasn’t totally overwhelming, I did find myself wishing for more bullet points and broken up sections to make the info more digestible. Thanks, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read!
There is definitely a lot of good information in this book, but it is all stuff that can be found online and will likely be repetitive for those who have already begun researching ADHD. I think this would be a good book for people who have just been diagnosed, though it may be difficult to get through, as there are several pages that are just walls of text. The use of infographics, colors, and other visual stimulants could ease eye fatigue and increase attention retention.
