I was scrolling through Tik Tok one day and came across an author talking about her book. Sounded intriguing, so I headed here to NetGalley to look for it, and lo and behold, I already had it! Woot!
This was a fun read about Hollywood and love lost and regained, about letting go of the past and looking forward to a bright new future, full of possibilities!
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for the digital ARC in return for an honest review.
DNF at 50%. The writing is good, but for me, the story is slow and introspective. By the midpoint, nothing has really changed from the beginning. There's no character development, no conflict, and little plot movement, I'm sure others will enjoy the book but it's not for me.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy. I thought this was a sweet book with remarkable insight into the main character’s thoughts. She seemed so relatable and I really felt for her. The premise of the story was also very entertaining.
I want to start this by saying I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really liked this book. I liked the second chance romance trope and the chemistry between the main characters. I wish we got to see a bit more of their relationship and that it was longer, but overall I really liked the book.
Oh y'all. I was so charmed by the blurb on this one! It was straight up my alley and I was so excited to get my hands on it!
It didn't play out exactly as I had hoped.
Don't get me wrong, I did love Liv and Ransom. Their ending was super satisfying and very sweet. I think what I needed is...more. More time with them together. More dialogue. Their relationship fired up quickly - but that didn't bother me because I knew they had history. I took it as the rekindling of a friendship, and I have plenty of those: where you go years apart and can pick up where you left off. But I think once there were clearly feelings involved, I needed more development in order to fully invest. So while I liked them - I felt outside of their story and like far more emphasis was given to the trajectory of their careers, when what I really wanted was more feels.
That said, I did find the whole story interesting. As a lover of these types of shows (hello, Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls...sighhh) this tickled a sweet spot for me and I enjoyed the entire premise. I also loved the way the dynamics of the characters were given - and man, I would really really love a Ford story. I loved that guy almost more than I loved Ransom. Talk about a scene-stealer!
In the end, this was a good story. I would have liked more from the romance, but the story itself was solid and entertaining and ultimately rewarding. It was worth the read, even if it didn't hit quite the way I wanted it to.
Cute read... There were definitely parts that lulled! But the banter between the two characters were so cute! Overall I enjoyed this bok!
I read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'm finding it hard to rate this one. Some parts I really liked. When Ransom and Liv first found each other again, their chemistry was great. Then when the novel focused on the drama of show business and the rumours, it fell a bit flat. Not much actually happened. For them to not contact each other after loving each other for so long? It's not really a concept I can understand.
The Reunion by Kayla Olson is bubble gum romance.
This book is such a paradox for me.
On one hand, I enjoyed it. I found the plot to be super cute. It was a wholesome book that can easily be enjoyed by all ages. However, I do believe Olson’s intended audience are those born in the late 90s or early 2000s. She managed to fills the pages with nostalgia from this time period, without directly referencing it. It was fun to see who I thought Olson was channeling when she created fictional counterparts for popular television shows, actors, musicians, hosts, etc.
On the other hand, I felt the writing style was lacking. Olson employees a technique where she created fake articles or post at the end of most chapters. I can see why she chose to do this, since the book centers around the entertainment industry. However, I found the articles and posts to be distracting. It took me out of the story. I would have preferred for her to imbed the same information in the story through dialogue.
Another issue I had with the book was how quickly things seemed to move. I didn’t feel a connection with the majority of the characters. Adding length to the book would have been super helpful. It would have allowed for more depth and substance.
Overall, this book was middle of the road for me. It doesn’t register in my top or bottom reads.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Atria books for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
When the dedication of this book had a nod to Dawson's Creek, I knew this was going to be a book I would enjoy! I thought I was getting a cutesy rom-com with The Reunion, but I'm glad the book was so much more.
I always enjoy the second-chance romance trope, and I liked reading about Liv and Ransom reconnecting at a reunion episode for the TV show they both starred on as teens. Like Funny You Should Ask and How to Fake it in Hollywood, this book gives you a behind the scenes look of a TV production and what the actors go through. I enjoyed the articles and social media and blog posts at the end of the chapters to help move the story along and give you more of a glimpse into secondary characters.
This was a really cute, sweet second-chance romance between two actors on the reunion of a 90s' remniscent teen show. Recommended.
This was an interesting second chance romance between two former teenage actors who reunited as adults. They were best friends but didn’t speak for quite some time. It was a light hearted, escapist type novel that was easy to breeze through in no time.
This is book that I really wanted to like. It sounded so cute. But just ended up being a little to cheesy for me. Also I think it had way to much drama. I was more annoyed with these characters than anything else. I didn’t think this was a great romance book.
Thank you! I enjoyed this book very much.
There were some surprise twists and turns.
I really liked the character development.
Child stars, once, best friends/maybe more turned casual acquaintances reunite for the reunion of their incredibly popular TV show 16 years after the final
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a fun, light friends to lovers second chance romance with Hollywood drama, overbearing parents, professional rivalries, and miscommunication galore. I thoroughly enjoyed the secondary characters, who feel well-fleshed out despite their limited air time. Liv and Ransom, our main characters, have witty banter and both seem genuine and sweet. They each have personal goals to achieve and professional decisions to make while navigating the task of figuring out how that can be done, together, in the public eye. A coming into your own in Hollywood situation, if you will.
Here's hoping for a follow-up book about Bre and Ford 🤞
Truly loved this one with all my heart, This is just such sweet fun Hollywood reunion romance that gave me shades of if the oc came back together, I will be reviewing a physical copy of this book on my social media platforms but thank you agin to Atria for the digital arc
kinda loved this one! This is the first book i have read by this author and I will definitely be a repeat customer. Major nostalgia giving me Dawson’s Creek/the OC vibes. I enjoyed the glitz and glam of the Hollywood life but also the not so fabulous side of it. The table reads with the cast had me thinking of the Friends reunion show, which I loveddd. The chemistry between the 2 MC, Liv and Ransom, was super hot and I would have welcomed a little more… you know. If you’re looking for spice, this ain’t it. But it was still a quick, fun read I’d recommend to anyone who likes a second chance romance 😎
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria for the ARC in exchanged for an honest review
CW: death of a parent (past), grief (briefly mentioned), family tensions (side character), anxiety
Were you obsessed with teen shows growing up because I was. This fed to my nostalgia obsessed soul that always eats up those 20 year anniversary covers, rumors of reunions, and reboots of shows, who got way too invested in the ships of couples. This book was light, frothy and just full of teenage tv show goodness.
Entirely Liv's story, the Reunion effortless weaves the story of filming of the 20 year reunion episode, Liv figuring out what she wants in her career, and the second chance esque romance with her childhood crush. The Dawson's Creek vibes were there and as a massive fan of the show, I loved it. The deep dive behind the scenes, but this book then goes into its own direction.
I loved the choices that had Liv's life and choices mirroring her alter-ego/character she played. Finding the right fit between trusting in love and pursuing your career. The sexual tension between Liv and Ransom was amazing and had me turning the page to find out what was going to happen between them. Slow burning and quietly building I was cheering them on.
Steam: 1.5
This book was so cute! I wish the ending wasn’t so rushed as I wanted a bit more time with the characters but overall really enjoyed the book.
Thank you NetGalley for eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Atria= for the advanced copy of this book!
Liv and Ransom met as child stars on the set of Girls on the Verge. 20 years later, they're reunited on set for the reunion episode, and very quickly discover that they still have feelings for each other. This second-chance celebrity romance was so cute, compulsive, and a great read. I loved the mix of celebrity news articles in between the chapters to add an extra Hollywood element and raise the stakes of the relationship a little more. The other cast members and friends are fantastic side characters, and our grand gesture and the "finally getting together" moments were just perfection. If you enjoyed Birds of California or How to Fake it in Hollywood, I think you'll love this book!
I both loved and adored this book! I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy when it's released. Ransom and Liv are by far one of my favorite book couples ever! And I can only hope we get a Bre/Ford sequel! Make it happen!
