Kiera Cass has a beautiful way of writing, but A Thousand Heartbeats is just 'fine.'
With her Selection books, she had such a unique societal structure that any slow downs in the actual plot still felt interesting. In A Thousand Heartbeats there was no such 'backup.'
Annika and Lennox are meant to be compelling with tragic backstories, but I felt like I never really 'knew' them as characters.
I just started reading Kiera Cass this year, and what a time to discover her! A Thousand Heartbeats is exactly what you would hope for and more. Annika is a princess but she’s also a warrior, utterly loyal to her people and those she loves. I so enjoyed her romance with Lennox. It was sweet, the book a perfect length, and it kept me guessing right up until the end. This is exactly what you look for in a YA fantasy! I can’t wait it’s see what this author writes next.
I loved the Selection series by Kiera Cass (in a so bad it's good can't look away type of way) so I thought I would love this too. Unfortunately it fell more flat for me than the Selection series did. But still enjoyable if you like Kiera Cass' writing
I have loved everything I have read by Kiera Cass and this book is no different! The cover is stunning as well! Thank you for the opportunity to read and review!
I was so excited when this book came out because I loved the The Selection series. Overall this book was really well written, interesting, and had a great ending. I Enjoyed the different points of views and how the stories intertwined. I didn’t like it as much as the Selection series but I did think it was a good read!
“Love has a sound. It sounds like a thousand heartbeats happening at the same time.”
This is quite the adventure following Lennox and Annika. They lead such different lives but are still quite alike. I like how it says what each are doing at the same time. The side characters are great and I love Inigo and Noemi the best. I did fine Kawan and King Theron inept and annoying. Lennox should've just killed Kawan and taken over. I did enjoy Lennox and Annika's romance. although it felt a little rushed. I almost wish this was a duology or series so I could've gotten more out of it. It was definitely an interesting read though!
Thank you Netgalley and HarperTeen for the review copy!
The saddest part about this book is I will never be able to read it for the first time again.
I couldn't stop reading this book. Kiera Cass has been one of my favorite authors for almost ten years and this book just proves that her writing is absolutely amazing. There is nothing this book doesn't have.
Annika has been secondborn her entire life and with this comes political marriages. She is stuck with someone who doesn't respect her and wants the throne. Her brother is the most supportive and caring person on the entire world and her father is dealing with the PTSD of losing his wife. Their lives change one fateful day when Annika sort of experiences the same fate as her mother. How will she change the lives of everyone around her?
Why you should read this book:
-Dual point of view
-Star-crossed lovers
-Enemies to lovers
-Female empowerment
-Supportive siblings and friends
-Kindness and greater strength
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperTeen for the opportunity to read this book. This was an actual dream come true.
An absolutely beautiful read that, apart from a few qualms, was something I really enjoyed, especially after the disappointment that was the Betrothed.
Usually, I am not one for enemies-to-lovers romance, but I think this one worked. I think the romance was heart-pounding, and I found myself rooting for our main characters the entire time.
Some plot points didn't quite make sense, especially leading up to the ending, and some characters, like the prince, weren't completely true to how they should have been written for consistency, but otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. After the Selection series, I think this is another wonderful book from Kiera Cass.
Everything that Kiera Cass writes is just perfect. Whilte at times I felt that the pacing was a little off (a whole lot happens in not a lot of pages), Cass never makes the reader feel rushed or blindsided. There are enough twists and turns to keep you wanting to read more. She does palace intrigue so well.
I absolutely adored this book! I read this book because I remember The Selection series from when I was much younger. This book really delivered the same court intrigue in a more grown up way, which was exactly what I was signing up for.
This book is a prime example of star-crossed lovers with an amazing "stuck together" scene. I love how it was cut up into 3 parts because as I read I could feel myself becoming more and more invested with the story as it went.
After reading a digital copy of this book, I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy for myself.
Honestly... I could not get more than a chapter into this book. Do I think it will be amazing? Yes, yes I do. Do I plan on picking it up in the future and trying it again? Yes, yes I do. Personally, I was just not able to get into this book right now, but I will try again in the future.
Kiera Cass has done it again! I think this might be my favorite sorry of hers. It’s so beautiful and kept me guessing until the very end.
A Thousand Heartbeats has alot of potential! I loved Kiera Cass’ first series but this book fell a little short. The main characters only spoke one or two times and were already madly in love. They were very intimate in the caves, but it felt forced and awkward because they didn’t even know each other. This either needed to be a longer book, or be made into a series. I did start to love the side characters but wanted to get to know them a little more as well as more of their world and kingdoms.
Thank you to Kiera Cass, The publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
This is a sweet young adult book about a princess who is going to be forced into a loveless marriage for political gain and a young soldier who is working to take back the throne that was stolen from his people.
This an enemies to lover fairy tale but one in which the Princess is headstrong and the one to save the day. I really enjoyed this book so much. You really fall in love with both Annika and Lennox. While the book is a little long it moves fairly quickly as the chapters are short flipping between the two characters point of views. If your a sucker for helpless romantics, royalty, and enemies to lover tropes this is a cute story for you.
This was another classic Kiera Cass! I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first, but after I got about 20% in, I really enjoyed it a lot! Annika and Lennox were great main characters, and I didn't see half of the twists coming, which is always great!
SWOOOOOON.
My only complaint is Annika and Lennox spent WAY too much time apart. I also knew the ending early on, but I’m still obsessed with this. Not to mention there were a few shockers for me, so that’s a plus.

Princess Annika is facing a loveless marriage of obligation for political reasons. Lennox has devoted his life to reclaiming the throne that Annika's family currently occupies. Their lives, pasts, goals, and everything scream that they should be at odds, and yet...
This book is ooey, gooey, swoon-worthy enemies to lovers goodness. I loved The Selection series, so I had high expectations, and they were met! I was treading water a bit until Annika and Lennox ended up face to face. Then from the moment they were together they scooped up my heart, and I was hooked.
I adore a dual POV, especially when reading enemies to lovers. This book had plenty of heart, a good amount of action, witty dialogue and banter, a sweeping, romantic fantasy setting, and a story that proves that Kiera Cass is the GOAT when it comes to this sub-genre of fantasy.
I absolutely loved this book. I was expecting it to be a lot like The Selection, but it really stood on its own.
This book is a fantasy novel with a "enemies to lovers" theme, in which the main characters Annika and Lennox, both suffering from issues with their HORRIBLE parents, initially see each other as enemies but eventually realize their perceptions of each other are distorted and develop feelings for each other. Annika and Lennox are likable characters. I love that Annika really cares about her kingdom and does a lot for herself. The pacing of the romance is quick but believable. The world building is a little flat, but the characterization is good and the story is action packed and exciting. Overall, I found it engaging, but I'm not sure if I'll rush to read any further books in this series.
I did enjoy this story. It wasn’t as good as The Selection Series or the Siren, but I still enjoyed it.
It is another book with war and fighting, enemies to lovers, but with a bit more gore than some past ones haha
That being said, I quite liked our main characters. The princess was strong but not so much that I found her over-bearing. She had a good heart but with enough fire to Stand up for herself and what she believed in. Our rebel had a very dark, stained past but was able to find redemption. He was dark and morally grey (so of course, we find a way to love him 😜).
Not everything was super believable, but I don’t come to the books to have normal anyway so it didn’t really bug me.
Thanks to netgalley for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
