I listened to the audiobook version & absolutely loved it. I even looked into the book to see if it is a series, it is!! It's listed as the 3rd book in the series. Which doesn't bother me - I can read series out of order & I enjoy a good spoiler. I'm excited to read books 1 & 2.
This book was a sweet Amish novel. The narrator read at the perfect speed, even did accents for different characters.

I enjoyed this story with all the characters within. The main characters were Collette Yoder and Aaron Troyer.

Collette Yoder is an Amish woman that live with her two children. Her husband abandoned them and she found out he was killed in an accident. Her son has recently married. Her friend talks to their bishop to see if he needs help with clean and taking care of his two girls while there grandmother is up for hip surgery.

Aaron Troyer is a bishop of their Amish community. With all the demands of being the bishops he doesn't have time for his children. His mother has been taking care of them but she falled and hurt her hip and is in need of surgery. When a woman from their community tells him that a friend would like to help out he decides to hire her.

This was a fun story to read. It had action and drama throughout. There were a few giggles within. There was also a bit of a side story too.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

Courting the bishop? Collette steps in to fill a housekeeper position for the the widowed bishop. However, she is not prepared for the feelings that are sure to follow. Will the bishop love what is right in front of him, or will he be forced to look elsewhere?

Collette Yoder was abandoned by her husband and just recovered from a near-fatal buggy accident. Now, she's widowed and relying on friends to help support her and her two children. To support herself, Collette begins helping Bishop Aaron Troyer with running his household. He's newly widowed and raising two young daughters who do not know the first thing about running a household.

What a cute story! Readers return to Joyful River. Love can be found despite tragedy, and it's important to find joy in the smallest things.

The Love of a Good Amish Woman by Rosalind Lauer gets 5 stars from me. This book is an Amish story about several people in a small town. At the beginning of the book, the author introduces many people, and at first, I felt a little lost, but by the second chapter it became clear as to who was who. Aaron is an older man who is a bishop. His wife passed away about two years ago and he has two teenage daughters at home. Colette is a middle-age woman with two children. Her husband left her years ago, but has since died. She had a buggy accident several years ago, and Aaron visited her frequently to give her encouragement as she was learning to walk again. Collette starts to work for Aaron keeping his house clean and getting his two teenagers to have an interest in cooking, cleaning, and sewing. She is there to prepare them to be good wives and mothers, and while she is there, everyone falls in love with her.

The Love of a Good Amish Woman is the first book I have read by this author, and I loved it.

Although the third in the series, you certainly don't need to have read the others in order to understand this one, this is completely stand alone.

A wonderful clean and wholesome Amish romance, my absolute favourite kind of romance to read, I devoured this in one sitting and then went and ordered Rosalind's other books.

An overworked bishop and a resilient widow are a help to nearly everyone in their faith-filled Amish community of Joyful River, Pennsylvania—but what will help them see just how right they can be for each other?

Collette Yoder’s path hasn’t been easy since her husband abandoned her—and she recovered from a near-fatal injury. But now-widowed, she feels blessed to provide for her children, especially when her new job means helping the also newly widowed Bishop Aaron Troyer straighten out his too-busy life. She simply won’t let herself hope too much that their friendship could blossom into much, much more . . .

Aaron Troyer can only thank Gott that he’s finally found help. With a thriving congregation and two lively daughters growing up fast, the bishop has more demands on his time than hours in the day. And he’s long admired Collette Yoder's quiet courage and ability to find joy in the smallest things—an inspiring example for three visiting Englisch girls. But amid unforeseen trouble and strife, Aaron may realize that his admiration for Collette could lead to a lifetime of joy together . . .

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

This is a clean romance and an enjoyable novel. I had not read the first two books in the series, but it did not take long to get caught up with what had happened in the previous books. My challenge with this novel is that I did not get interested in the storyline until the sixth chapter which in no way is the fault of the author. Once I felt a connection to the characters, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Colette Yoder and Bishop Aaron Troyer. Colette truly is the epitome of a good Amish woman, she is kind, loves to serve others and she has overcome both physical and emotional pain with a pleasant attitude.

There are several relationship issues the characters need to work on, mother-daughter, grandparents and grandchildren and father-son who need reconciliation. It isn’t all drama and hurt, there are celebrations and happy times, too. Of course, with all good novels, the author puts one character in the story who is so unlikeable that you almost feel sorry for, almost but not quite.

This is Lauer's third book in the Joyful River series. This is is the story of Aaron Troyer, the local bishop, and Collette Yoder, a single mom to a grown son and a teenage daughter. Collette has recently found out that her husband who abandoned her has died, giving her the freedom to marry again. As she begins helping Bishop Aaron run his household with his two teenage daughters while his mother is preparing for surgery, their friendship deepens from the times when Bishop Aaron visited Collette in rehab after a buggy accident.. Bishop Aaron misses his deceased wife, Dorcas, but he's kept very busy with serving his community, as well as trying to run his own farm. Is there any chance that he and Collette can become more than just friends?

This was a fun Amish story revisiting familiar characters in Joyful River. I'd suggest reading the other two books before reading this one.

I was given an E-ArC of this book by Kensington Books. All opinions expressed herein are strictly my own..

The Love of a Good Amish Woman by Rosalind Lauer is the third book in the Joyful River series. Miriam may be busy with family and the never-ending chores, but she makes time for a little matchmaking. Grace came to live with Miriam along with her two sisters after the death of her mother. Grace is enjoying the simpler life. Grace needs to figure out what she wants to do when she finishes high school. Collette and her children have been living in Miriam’s Dawdi Haus since the death of her husband. Collette’s husband abandoned her which has left Collette feeling insecure. Miriam has noticed the way Collette looks at Bishop Aaron Troyer. It has not gone unnoticed by Miriam that their kindly bishop has feeling for Collette. It just so happens that the bishop could use a housekeeper while his mother undergoes hip replacement surgery. While Collette is working at the Troyer home, it will give her a chance to spend more time with Aaron. Of course, the road to true love is not smooth. There are potholes and roadblocks along the way. The Love of a Good Amish Woman is well-written with steady pacing. There are great characters in this story. I enjoyed getting to know them. There are a couple of storylines which I liked. It kept things interesting. I like how the relationship between Aaron and Collette progressed. They got to know each other while Collette was in rehab. The pair become friends before romance blossoms between them. There are good life lessons and faith messages in the story. I especially liked Suzi’s story. I was happy to return to Joyful River, Pennsylvania. I like that the author shows real life struggles and tragedies. We get to the characters work to overcome adversity. It is wonderful how the members of the Amish community are there for each other when tragedy strikes. I have enjoyed each book in the Joyful River series. The Love of a Good Amish Woman can be read as a standalone, but you will be missing out. The Love of a Good Amish Woman is a heartwarming tale with a busy bishop, a matchmaking Miriam, a standout scar, yucky yumasetti casserole, a wonderful wedding, life lessons, and a caring community.

This is the first full length story that I have read by this author. I love it so much that I bought one of the earlier books in this series and added Rosalind Lauer to my TBR list. This book can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone story. I love that the story is told by at least four different points and that the story has many layers of relationships. Most of the characters are people that I would want to know. I love how Collette is so supportive of Aaron and his daughters and their community. Aaron is so busy seeing to his community needs that he doesn't think of his own. I also like the side stories involving Collette's daughter, Miriam's 'English' niece and Miriam's grumpy mother. This is a book that I wanted to both zip through and savor

This is a Clean Amish Romance, and this is the third book in The Joyful River series. I have read and reviewed the other books in this series before picking up this book. I just could not get into this story or the characters. I ended up DNFing this book. This book was so slow moving it just could not pull me into the story. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

A Wonderful Read

Years ago Collette Yoder's husband abandoned her. Although theirs wasn't a romance filled relationship, the now widowed Collette doesn't see a new relationship in her near future. Collette has a true servant's heart. She has a job cooking and cleaning for an Amish family, and also takes on the same tasks for the widowed Bishop Aaron Troyer.

Like Collette, Aaron doesn't see a new relationship in his future either. Being the leader of the church community is a full time commitment in itself. But on top of that, Aaron runs his farm and helps others with theirs. Because he is so busy, he is very grateful for Collette's help, especially with his daughters. As Collette and Aaron spend more time together, their friendship deepens and begins to develop into something more.

I loved watching Collette and Aaron grow in their relationship and faith. While their story is the main focus, a few other interesting and captivating story lines run along side theirs. These stay in the background and add just the right touch to the story without taking the focus away from Collette and Aaron. I also enjoyed how the author incorporated details about the duties of the bishop and the deacons. This helped me better understand Aaron and all he had to contend with.

The Love of a Good Amish Woman is a wonderful read. Along with the romance you'll find a story of faith, hope and overcoming obstacles. It is well worth the read, and I highly recommend that you do just that.

I love this book. Watching Aaron and Collette grow in faith in their middle aged years to learning new things in their walk with God was truly inspiring. Collette’s servant heart was beautiful. The writing was great and I had a difficult time putting it down.

This read was a real treat, and yes, I have read previous books that take place in Joyful River, PA, this is a read alone, with recurring characters.

From beginning to end I page turned enjoying this Amish love story. Yes, this is the Amish Bishop's, Aaron Troyer, and widow Collette Yoder. We embark on a journey of doubts and match matchmakers, busy with another prospect! There are wayward Amish, and we are reunited with English teens that live in their Amish aunts home, and are about to meet their Grandmother for the first time.

What a great read this was, problems, yes, but loved the faith shown.

Now I'm waiting for more!!

I received this book though Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.

This is a well written Amish romance that holds your attention from the first page until the last. I enjoyed the pace of the story and that the romance was about an older couple. I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Amish romance.

It's always a joyful occasion to revisit the Amish community in Joyful River, Pennsylvania. This time the romance focuses around Bishop Aaron Troyer and Collette Yoder who have both lost their spouses. Collette's husband left her and she still has a daughter at home to support. She is also still recovering from a serious accident. She has found work in the Amish community, but not enough to support her.

Aaron is overworked since his wife died. He is trying to care for his daughters, meet the spiritual and community demands of being an Amish Bishop, and work on his own large farm. Aaron finds that having Collette there to care for the house a few days a week and to give his daughters a little guidance (and cooking lessons) is a blessing. He has found that raising daughters is very different than raising sons. Collette is glad of the work. Pretty soon, Aaron isn't sure how he managed without her.

I loved that the couple were both older people who who had already had families, and that the man was one of the church leaders. The book also sheds some light on how the church leaders are chosen and their duties. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend the whole series. It is not necessary to have read the other books in the series before reading this one.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher Kensington Books (Zebra) via NetGalley. It was a pleasure to voluntarily read and review this book.

The Love of a Good Amish Woman by Rosalind Lauer
This is book three in The Joyful River Series. I have not read the first two in this series, which made it a tad hard to follow some of the background stories. However, it can be read as a stand alone. I loved the story of Colette and her wonderful generous giving heart. The rest of the characters I truly did not connect with at all. This is a well written Amish love story following an older couple, which is a nice change of pace.
Anyway, who likes a sweet tale of innocent romance and the Amish lifestyle will enjoy this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.

The good Amish woman is Collette Yoder, now a widow, who gets “the looks” because her husband abandoned her. Now recovering from a bad accident, she is appreciative the new job will help provide for her children and help widower Bishop Aaron Troyer & his two daughters.

The bishop is much loved by the community but is becoming worn out by his bishop duties, running his farm and his daughters get little of his time. Collette is determined to help without letting them know how much she is attracted to this tired and kind man.

My review …
First, this is a wonderful story of a woman who has never known ‘romantic’ love and a man who is a bit of a micromanager regarding his church and congregation. His home is in disarray. His daughters sleep in and have a bit of an attitude. Some of the congregation are disdainful toward Collette because her husband left her — you will learn his leaving had nothing to do with her or their children.

Characters you will not care for … okay, in all honesty — you won’t like HER at all! Her name is Linda (note spelled with an “i” and not a “y”). Her husband is Linn and I didn’t like him because he never dealt with her I’m-better-than-anyone-else attitude and allowed her to treat Collette like she was a lowly servant. You’ll probably want to reach into your Kindle (or book) and send both of ’em packing.

A plus — learning some details of a bishop’s duties.
Naturally, a 'gmay' is not a copycat of another. But it was refreshing to read what a bishop, a minister, and a deacon’s duties are and how they differ.

Looking at the large picture, I liked the book. But I had ONE major gripe. It was YEARS — I mean YEARS — before I could hire someone to come in to help me keep my home clean. I grew up on a farm with a dirt gravel road in front of the house. Dust was a constant problem along with just living on a farm. I know how to clean but it is one of those chores that never end.

So what torqued me off? Imagine you walk into a house with caked-on dirty dishes PILED in the sink. Dirty floors, dirty cabinets. All the rooms have cobwebs and haven’t been cleaned in weeks if not longer. And I’m supposed to believe that “within an hour or so”, the downstairs is clean. That it only takes her a FEW minutes to wash BY hand a sinkful of dirty dishes. And remember, the Amish don’t put dishes in a strainer to dry. They hand-dry and put away the dishes. And it continued like this. I felt like the author had never cleaned a single house or kitchen in her life!!! Imagine the bathroom and mudroom if the kitchen was this bad. Was she Samantha and able to twitch her nose? Her cleaning speed was ridiculously fast over and over and … And for me — minus 2 stars.

Note: What Collette did in the speed-cleaning episode(s) was okay.
All that needs to be done is to change the timing of each job.

Readers have to identify in some way with the main characters. Authors, please don’t write a character doing something that is NOT doable, syfy and fantasy excepted.

I added one-half a star because of the explanation (well-written) of the bishop and church leaders for a rating of 3.5 stars. Because the story *finally* dropped the Speedy Cleaner routine, I have rounded it to 4 stars on websites that can only display whole numbers.

I received a complimentary DRC (digital review copy) of “The Love of a Good Amish Woman” via NetGalley from the publisher, Kensington Books, Zebra. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
