A story that combines the intrigue of espionage and harsh realities of war with the tenderness of first love...
While Clare and Marcus certainly deserve center stage for this story, I admit that Fannie and Peter also stole my heart. I was also beyond giddy to have two of my favorites, Grace and Jack, make a reappearance. (From Not by Sight, which was my first Kate Breslin book and made me an instant fan.) In Love's Time took me on a journey of faith and trust. It is a moving reminder that when we place our trust in God, He will show Himself faithful. Even if the outcome looks drastically different than we imagined.
Clare and Marcus face such overwhelming odds. So many enemies are fighting against them from every side. They try so desperately to try to fix their situations on their own. But it isn't until we surrender our plans, take those first steps of obedience that we can walk in true peace and freedom. Even when faced with losing it all, TRUST is what it all comes down to.
Oh my lands...I truly hope we get a Fannie and Peter story. Because those two deserve all the happiness and flower growing success that life (and God) can offer!
In Love's Time is a story that will speak to your heart. If you enjoy tender romance and WWI espionage intrigue, you will definitely enjoy this one.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
A man who loses his memory because he gets shot while on a top secret mission, what he doesn't realize is he's engaged to one lady but loving another? What is really going on, and who are these two girls to him?
A mixture of espionage, a war story and a love triangle. If you like sweet romances set during ww1, I think you'll like this.
I really liked the characters, and loved the romance parts of finding love that once was possibly lost. And for some reason I do like story lines when one character has amnesia and needs to figure out things and lean on their trust in God and with the help of their friends and family to see them through.
I didn't realize, like some authors Kate Breslin takes characters from her previous books and puts them as minor characters in later books. I probably would have enjoyed this book even more if I started at her first book.
*thank you to #netgalley and Baker Publishing for a copy of this book to read and review.
This book is absolutely fabulous. It really captured my attention and had me on the edge of my seat throughout! It was engaging from the first page and kept me guessing to the end, through all the twists and surprises. Kate Breslin is a gifted writer and has made learning about the human side of WWI such an exciting and inspiring experience. I loved reading her previous stories that introduced Captain Marcus Weatherford, and am delighted he gets his own story. Despite war, intrigue, deception, injury, and misunderstanding, love prevails. The sweet relationship between Marcus and Clare is so tender. In addition to love, there are themes of sacrifice, compassion, forgiveness, and trust. I love that the characters find strength to overcome the impossible by turning to God.
I recommend reading Kate Breslin’s other WWI novels in order of publication. They are wonderful and add to Marcus’ story. However, reading In Love’s Time as a stand-alone, will still be a good experience.
I received a digital copy of this book to review. This is my honest opinion.
This novel got off to a strong start, kind of lagged towards the middle, and ended very well. My main problem was that I could not remember all the characters: which is my bad. Marcus Weatherford has been in several of them, but it has been years since I read Not By Sight, which I understand this is the Follow Up to. I need to re-read that, and then this.
There's plenty of romance and intrigue, and some interesting details about woman working as nurses during WW1, as well as the way battlefield injuries were being dealt with. Not just physical, but also mental injuries: Marcus is suffering from amnesia as well as what we would probably now recognize as PTSD. Understanding of this condition was in its infancy in 1918: which is to say almost non-existent.
The details about spying and the political situation worked well in the background took me ages to realize the copy of Pride and Prejudice was being used as a sort of signal.
I really liked Marcus, Clare, and Marcus’ sister, Frannie. This was a lovely story of second chance romance, love, and forgiveness. I would recommend this to those who like WW1 novels and historical fiction but would recommend starting with the first book as this one doesn't work so well as a standalone since there is a lot of background for the protagonists which the first book explores.
Thanks to Bethany House for approving my request for this title. All opinions are freely given and entirely my own.
I enjoyed this story and it kept me entertained and intrigued. Kate Breslin’s historical fiction is based on events and people, included in the Author’s Notes at the end of the story, which I found very interesting. Captain Marcus Weatherford is a WWI British spy, assigned to a top secret mission to Russia in 1918. Natalya, a Russian ballerina, is paired with him posing as his fiancé. Marcus leaves Clare, the woman he loves, and her young daughter, to fulfill his duty, but returns after a traumatic brain injury, which leaves him with amnesia. He returns home to Montefalco to recover, with Clare agreeing to be his orderly, Natalya continuing to be by his side, and his family there to love and support him, as they try to help him get his life back. I would recommend it! The family dynamics, romance, faith, intrigue, and beautifully described setting, will keep you anticipating the outcome. Thank you to NetGalley and Bethany House for sending this book for review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I really wanted to love this book. I am a huge fan of Kate Breslin’s, and so I was almost certain that this would be another five-star read. Unfortunately, it was not. I was really excited to read the story of these familiar characters who’d been introduced in Breslin’s earlier books, but it didn’t quite live up to my expectations.
While I enjoyed seeing Clare’s growth from the first book she was featured in (Not by Sight) as well as throughout her own story, I found Marcus’ character a bit disappointing. He seemed a little too flat. I do understand that certain plot elements made that necessary, but I just wish that Marcus’ personality would have come through a bit stronger.
Overall, I felt that the story itself lacked the intrigue and danger I’ve come to expect from Breslin’s novels. It definitely had more drama than suspense. While well-written, this book was simply not what I was hoping for.
Having read Breslin’s work before, I was prepared to learn something new with her details, but she surprised me by how well-grounded her story was and how seamlessly she inserted history into the fiction and helped me understand both the time period and her own plot better.
The author does an excellent job with character growth and helps the reader understand the complex motivations of each one. Even secondary characters or ones I didn’t particularly like had reasons for how they acted and it made the story more believable.
I think most of us can relate to having our plans upended, some in a very dramatic fashion. The characters in this novel face that in extreme circumstances, often without having any knowledge of why things have gone so horribly wrong. In that is a lesson, of trusting that God’s plans are best, when we know the whys and especially when we don’t. It was a timely read for me, and a good reminder that I don’t need to understand to follow.
This is an engrossing tale of love and doing our best in difficult circumstances we can never plan for. I highly recommend it for teens and up who enjoy WWI fiction, nursing, or light spycraft stories with a hefty dose of clean romance.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher but was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are both honest and my own.
Kate Breslin is one of my favorite writers for a reason. She never fails to grip my heart with her stories and proceed to involve me in the plot and her characters’ lives. This is high-quality writing.
In Love’s Time, her latest release, is no different. This story of WW1 draws me in as the reader, but I don’t feel like a reader. I feel like I’m there. Working with Clare at the hospital on Endell Street, traveling with Marcus to Archangel, praying for a full recovery as we head to Hampshire…
This historical fiction book has been well-researched. Kate Breslin has lived up to my expectations and yet again delivered a huge treat in this story. Besides the story itself, I love the style and technique of how interwoven all the plotlines are. The story is intriguing and satisfying, and everything comes together perfectly.
I’ll compare this one with a hot cup of tea… probably tulsi + rose, with a little agave or sugar stirred in after steeping. So flavorfully detailed, and just right. I highly recommend.
Thank you to Kate Breslin and Bethany House Publishers for the honor of being part of this launch team!
Kate Breslin has written another winner with this story from England during World War I. Captain Marcus Weatherford loves hospital orderly, Clare Danner, but must leave on a secret mission with an alleged fiance, a beautiful ballerina. Love is never easy but during these war times, things certainly don't go smoothly for Clare when Marcus returns home with temporary amnesia after being shot. Clare faces losing her daughter without Marcus help but his memory isn't returning! I thoroughly enjoyed this wartime story. I recommend In Love's Time to others who enjoy historical fiction. I received a complimentary copy of In Love's Time through the author, NetGalley and Bethany House. This is my honest opinion.
I knew I’d love In Love’s Time before I even read one page beneath the beautiful cover because I’ve adored everything I’ve read by Kate Breslin. I love her writing style and the heart behind it. One special feature in this book is that Jack and Grace (from Not by Sight) are secondary characters I loved ‘seeing’ again.
I haven’t read many stories that include settings of London and Russia and enjoyed being transported there. But the main aspect of a story that pulls me in are the characters, and Marcus and Claire certainly did that. They felt authentic and were easy to love. And oh, my do I love a starting over/second chance story.
The tension was spot on, I loved the focus on faith, and the emotions and romance are believable and satisfying. And revisiting characters from previous books is like revisiting old friends.
#CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are 100% mine.
I was excited to receive an Advance Reader copy for In Love’s Time by Kate Breslin with the request that I write an honest review. This is my honest review. The opinions are my own. I have not read much World War I fiction and certainly not a WWI novel that includes love, espionage, amnesia and a renewal of trust in God and His plans for our lives.
In Love’s Time is a very engrossing novel, with plenty of surprises. It is a suspenseful and moving story with a bang up ending. Ms. Breslin really took the suspense right down to the wire. I was super busy this last month, but once I was able to sit down and read this book, I could barely put it down. Except when I fell asleep and dropped my Kindle.
I enjoy Historical novels/romances. I love learning history “things” and this book did not disappoint. The “Author’s Note” section was like the icing on a cake. It was fascinating to learn that the all-female staffed Endell Street Military Hospital really existed. I liked that several of the people who appeared in the book were also real people and neatly woven into the fictional story. The fictional characters, both the good guys and the bad guys, are well drawn and believable.
I really enjoyed the bantering and witty repartee between Clare and Marcus. That she was smart and competent and that he responded to that lovely. I completely fell in love with Marcus’ compassionate and welcoming family. Especially Fannie and her lush conservatory. She is so open and caring. They are not at all snobbish or judgmental, despite their position in society and fact that they live in what amounts to a castle… with secret passages, no less. I can’t wait for Fannie’s and Peter’s book. Hint, hint.
Although this book is linked to previous books it can be read as a stand-alone. I did not need to read the other books to fully enjoy this one. I have those books, and because this book was so good, they will move to the top of my TBR. I fully recommend Kate Breslin’s novel In Love’s Time.
All of Kate Breslin's books are winners. As soon as I hear she has a new one coming it is highly anticipated and I can't wait to get my hands on it to read it.
It was great to see a character that was in another of her books as a minor character gets a starring role as a character in this book. This book combines fact with fiction in such an intriguing way that had me flipping pages, giving up sleep just to find out what happens.
Intrigue, mystery, danger, romance these are all found within the pages of this book.
I enjoy that the author writes about WW I and WW II, two fascinating time periods to cover.
She is one of my absolute favorite Christian fiction historical writers.
She gives absolute attention to details and her research is impeccable.
Risk taking is at an all-time high in this intriguing book of courage, strength, importance of family, suspense and espionage.
This is the author's best book yet! Do not miss this one!

In Love's Time is an apropos title that shows these characters and us, that if we just stay patient, love will work itself out. And what a rollercoaster ride this was. We are in the summer of 1918; World War 1 is going on and the flu is taking many lives. There are secrets, espionage, countries at stake, and a love that may break under all the pressure.
Captain Marcus Weatherford has been tasked with a secret mission. Unfortunately, it will take him away from the love of his life, orderly Clare Danner and her little girl Daisy. However, it cannot be helped, and he refuses to leave her a widow. Unfortunately, some things are seen and misjudged and hearts break. Marcus must go undercover as an engaged man to a woman he barely knows and not even being able to make things right with Clare.
Well, big things happen that I was not expecting and wow what a ride. Clare and Marcus both must trust that the truth and love will push through before they make some big mistakes.
I haven't read an author Breslin novel in too long and this one really captured my attention during this holiday season and even with much to do, it was hard to put down. The heart wants what the heart wants is what they say.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Not By Sight, and I felt this one would not be able to compare.
And actually, I had a hard time getting in to this one, Clare seemed so self centered and almost child like. But after I pushed through that, I loved the interaction between Clare and Marcus. The story did not go where I thought it was heading, and that made me want to read it so much more.
I loved that the build up went nearly to the last page before resolving.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.
In this World War I historical romance, Captain Marcus Weatherford betrays Clare Danner when she finds him engaged to another woman. Clare was my favorite character in addition to her young daughter Daisy. She worked so hard to provide for them and really struggled to hold her head up high and support her daughter. Marcus was a somewhat shadowy figure who came and went in her life. Espionage, spies and a ruthless Russian ballerina round out the main cast members who have retreated to the Weatherford family estate for recuperation after Marcus’s mysterious head injury. It’s hard to imagine that young Daisy’s future lies in the memory that Marcus has but has been lost due to his injury. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this novel and was trying diligently to slow down and savor it, but I found it was quite difficult to put down. I always enjoy the warmth and historical detail and the fact that the author takes great care to maintain historical accuracy. It is notable that Marcus has a minor role in one of her other books but each is definitely a stand-alone novel.
This is my third Kate Breslin novel and definitely will not be my last! She’s an incredible novelist and I always await her newest releases. She has a nice backlist and I am very interested in reading them all.

“We’ve all faced one obstacle or another in our lives, but those hard things prepare us for greater challenges.”
Set in England and Russia in 1918, In Love’s Time by talented author Kate Breslin gives us the story of Captain Marcus Weatherford and Clare Danner. When Marcus is sent on a dangerous secret mission to Russia with a ballerina named Natalya posing as his fiancée, miscommunications occur and Clare is crushed. Marcus returns injured with memory loss, and Clare is tasked with helping him recover his health and memory.
From the back cover blurb, I was expecting more of the story to take place in Russia, but the vast majority of the story was set in England, so I felt the blurb was a little misleading. I love historical fiction, because I learn about little slices of history while enjoying a good story, and this novel was no exception. The author’s notes in the back of the book were very interesting and helpful in understanding some of the events and circumstances of the time.
The characters are well-drawn and engaging, the writing flows smoothly, and the story kept me turning pages. With plenty of intrigue, suspense, romance, and inspiration, this story should appeal to those who enjoy clean historical romance. While Breslin’s books aren’t labeled as a series, there are some characters that are interconnected and show up in her other books. 4.5 stars
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Bethany House Publishers. All opinions are my own.
Greetings! I just finished reading In Love's Time by Kate Breslin. If you've read it, be sure to let me know your thoughts!
It's clear the author is a talented writer. Her story is imaginative and articulate. She weaves history, faith, and love in an intriguing atmosphere. There was so much to like. However, I was still a little disappointed. The book seemed full of promise. The intriguing love story about a World War I Captain who embarks on a secret mission, gets shot, and has amnesia all the while trying to find his way back to the woman he loves, along with a gorgeous cover and talented author should be the perfect read. However, this one for me fell short. For much of the book, It felt like I was missing something. The characters were engaging and endearing at times, but I felt as if I was constantly trying to piece together who each character was and their backstory. I knew Marcus loved Claire and her daughter, but so few references to how they got to that point were written. Other characters were mentioned but seemed added in as an afterthought, never really developing the story so the full picture could be seen.
I would not read this as a stand-alone. The author mentions that her characters have made other appearances in her previous novels, so I would be sure to read those first. I think I would have enjoyed it much more had I done so.
This book was amazing! The characters were strong and believable (some you love and some you love to hate). The storyline was great and it kept me guessing, I couldn't put it down! I hated to see the story end and bid farewell to what became my friends. Thank you for such an amazing story! Bravo!
I have read every single one of Kate Breslin’s books, and I love them. I especially love her WWI books because that time period is not as prevalent in historical fiction. One of they many things I love about her stories are the characters. They are memorable and go through big changes that speak to any reader on some level.
Captain Marcus Weatherford has appeared in so many of Kate’s books. I was so excited to see this book would focus on him and hospital orderly Clare Danner.
In this story, Marcus is headed to Russia on a secret mission. He is there to find two members of the Romanov family rumored to still be alive. The mission is full of danger and many unknowns. All Marcus wants is to return home to Clare.
Clare feels betrayed by Marcus after seeing him propose to another woman. Her daughter’s father’s family is also trying to take Daisy away from her. This won’t be the first time they have taken Daisy from Clare.
When the mission in Russia goes terribly wrong, Marcus is left with more questions than answers. He is Clare’s only hope to keep Daisy and is unable to help at all. Despite her broken heart, Clare is determined to help Marcus in whatever way she can in hopes that he will ultimately be able to help her save Daisy. The question is, will he be able to at all, and if so, will it be in time to make a difference?
What a beautifully written story. I could not put this book down. Kate weaves in twists and turns along with timeless messages that kept me turning the page. Both Clare and Marcus learned so much about themselves and each other in this novel. Most importantly, they learned about God and his unconditional love and provision; how keeping their eyes on Him guided them in exactly the direction they needed to go. Clare and Marcus also learned lessons about love that were absolutely wonderful and powerful. I loved every bit of this novel and was so sad to see it end.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishing. All views are my honest opinion.
I am very happy to read a World War One novel as in very burnt out in World War Two novels and they are all beginning to blur together. I enjoyed this story. I did feel like the flash backs were a but abrupt but the storyline overall kept my interest. I enjoyed the characters and I was rooting for the main character. This story really made me feel and helped me learn.
