I honestly could not tell you what the last book I read that was set in the Tudor period, so this was fun in that regard all on its own. This is part of the Brothers of Wolf Isle series, it's number 3, and while it is technically a stand alone, I feel like it almost would have been helpful to have read books one and two. The book is Anna and Callum's story, but it keeps mentioning that Anna won't go back to Scotland and while we do find out why, having no back story really made it hard for me to really understand what her dang problem was. So if you're on the fence, I'd recommend books one and two, which I am now going to read because I really enjoyed this one.

With that, this book begins with Anna and her sister Dora, who have left Scotland and are now hanging out in England, in a castle, basically hanging out and helping Princess Elizabeth. One day though, Callum comes along, from Scotland, on a mission to bring both Anna and Dora back to Wolf Isle at the command of their older sister Lark. Anna doesn't know that pirate Jundeau is on his own mission to capture her, which puts her in imminent danger. She very much doesn't want to go back (she is basically wanted for the murder of her father, which I was so confused about, but it is elaborated on later in the book) and out of nowhere, a man of stature named Griggs proposes to her. Anna of course is just excited because she would no longer be on the bottom rung of economic status. It then becomes a waiting game on whether she will accept the proposal or go with Callum, while waiting for the pirate and his crew.

With that, the story starts having some comedy and fun, and I was absolutely here for it. I totally LOVED Callum, and though Anna was driving me nuts at points because WHY, why, WHY FOR THE LOVE OF WHY would she even consider Griggs? Can we just all acknowledge he needs to be pushed off a cliff? Even the first appearance of him, I wanted to push him off a cliff. Sue me.

Anyways.....

I love how Callum give zero craps on what others think of him, he's just confident in his abilities and qualities, and he is absolutely the best match for Anna there ever could be. Of course, we know pirates are coming, and they do, and holy hell- Callum does the damn thing. It was so great, quite possibly the best action sequence I've read in a romance in a long time. It does have one real steamy scene and a couple of almost/we're getting there moments, and I was so thrilled.

I absolutely loved this one, I can't wait to read more of this series! I also love the author's writing style, the story was fun and I didn't want to put this down at all, needless to say...... my family ate cereal for dinner and I never went to bed. 100% worth it.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for sending me an ARC for review, this was an unexpected delight, and it makes me want to read a whole lot more historical romances, that's for sure!

I love a Scottish romance, especially with a woman who knows what she wants and where to go. Anna has had a hard past and is basing her decisions on those bad experiences. When Callum s set to take her to safety she won't go for many reasons.

I loved the ideas and concepts of this story however I wish the mystery was harder to figure out. I knew that Anna and Callum were being tricked from an early.

I was not shocked by that part of the story. The romance was cute and that was the assignment and I was satisfied

This was my first book by this author and it won't be my last. I will go back to the first in this series to get up to speed.
This book has it all, romance, humor and suspense. I just loved the H, he was strong, funny, and so easy to fall in love with. I would truly recommend this book to anyone that want it all. You will love it!

The Highlander’s Tudor Lass by Heather McCollum
Brothers of Wolf Island #3

Wolf Island is cursed, the Maquarie brothers hope to break the curse and heal the island, two brothers have met their mates and healing has begun, Callum’s turn to work some magic comes in this story that sees him off to England on a quest.

What I liked:
* Callum: twin, charmer, middle brother, twin, quick, deadly, wants to prove himself, in England to save his sister-in-law’s sisters and bring them home to Wolf Island
* Anna: sister, protective, intelligent, seeks safety, had a rather horrid father, ran to England with her sister seeking a better life, hot tempered, has a strong throwing arm, defends the weak
* Dora: Anna’s younger sister, friends with Elizabeth Tudor, also has a strong throwing arm
* The roots in fact with real people from history playing parts
* The developing relationship between Callum and Anna
* That Anna was not a doormat and stood up for herself
* The setting and era the story was written in
* Mary: a maid that showed strength in adversity – hope she comes through alright
* Being able to dislike the bad guys – do hope that the evil pirate eventually meets a horrible fate
* The way bad guys were picked off toward the end of the story
* That I knew Callum would win Anna’s affection, not the pompous Englishman that I could see through from his first appearance in the story
* Thinking about what will happen Anna and her sisters as the series progresses
* That there are two more books left in the series to look forward to

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Knowing that evil has always existed…and will never bet stamped out

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I rad more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I didn’t mind the beginning, I was seething during the middle, and I was soothed by John McClane nay Callum Macquarie and his certain set of skills. The comedy started to shine by the end and the writing finally found its stride.

It would’ve been very interesting if the story started with the women captured by pirates for a while, only to have Callum sidle up or pretend to be one of them (you know like small hints he’s a good guy and seductive glances and all that idk) only to go absolutely Die Hard on their booties. Maybe it would’ve been more of a novella, but it could’ve been so metal. McCollum wrote those action sequences super well and I felt like I was watching a movie and I really wanted more of that!! A long con would’ve been so fun.

The inclusion of Elizabeth, Katherine, and Seymour was just tiring because honestly I don’t want historical accuracy. I do not want to see a grown ass creep feeling up a fourteen year old girl, lie about it, and succeed in throwing away her protection so she’s even more vulnerable. We got a letter at the end saying Elizabeth was fine and that Seymour was absolutely executed, but it muddled the plot nonetheless. I’m not that familiar with that part of history, so I had to Google what the hell was going on.

Then, I really could not tolerate Griggs and the fact that Anna just would NOT trust Callum about him until wayyyy too late. Like lady you’re asking Griggs for a loan to start a bakery after everything he’s done and said about you??? Anna was lacking any amount to sense for a good long while there and I was supremely annoyed. Thank god she can throw rocks though. I would’ve loved for Griggs to not exist in this book because it almost made it a love triangle and it extended for too long a period of time.

But like I said, the ending was actually very fun and I was impressed how it changed the tune of the story for me. I’m interested in the next book and am excited to see if that one works better for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶/5

CW: There was a lot of talk about violence against women and the like. Not by the hero.

The middle Macquarie brother finds love – if he can convince the stubborn woman of his dreams to come to Scotland with him – in The Highlander's Tudor Lass. Callum Macquarie yearns to be taken seriously by his brothers, which is why he’s determined to fulfill his sister-in-law’s request that he bring her sisters Anna and Dora home to Wolf Isle. Except when he comes upon the Montgomerie sisters, Anna beans him with a pomander. This is not the laughing, sweet woman he expected to find. Anna has fled Scotland and is now serving the young English princess, Elizabeth Tudor. She has no intention of going back to Scotland, not now, not ever. But with a pirate bent on revenge hunting for the Macquarie brothers and the Montgomerie sisters, Anna and her sister aren’t safe at Sudeley Castle. And the longer Anna is around Callum, the more she’s torn between the life she has told herself she wants and the promise of what could be between her and the handsome highlander.

Anna and Callum are both easy to like. Anna is strong and protective, determined to do what’s best for those in her care. She hasn’t had anyone she could lean on for a long time and she knows that evil can lurk even where there should be safe harbor. Callum has strong shoulders and a good heart. He desperately wants to be taken seriously by his brothers, which leads him to make mistakes, but at his heart he’s a strong and kind warrior. He shows Anna he believes in her and wants her to be free, not stifled like she is among the English lords and ladies. The two of them have great chemistry and it was easy for me to fall into their story.

Threats abound in The Highlander's Tudor Lass. There are court machinations at Sudeley, a suspicious lord bent on sweeping Anna off her feet, and the evil pirate Jandeau is always a danger. Heather McCollum weaves these threads through the romance, never taking the focus off Anna and Callum. I adored these two strong and sweet protagonists and was delighted by their happily ever after. McCollum’s highlander heroes always delight as do the women who love them. I’m looking forward to seeing what McCollum has in store for the next Brothers of Wolf Isle book!

Callum Macquarie would give anything to go back to the Highlands and Wolf Isle. Instead, he’s stuck circling an undefended English castle in too-tight breeches, longing for his bed and his plaid. But he has an oath to keep: to bring home the bonny Anna Montgomerie and her sister before that pirate Jundeau finds them first. Anna won’t step one foot in Scotland not while there’s a chance she can remain in England. Now Anna and Callum are caught between the threat coming for Anna. Staying means danger. Leaving means death. And a blazing attraction that could spoil everyone’s plans.
This is the third book in the series & is easily read on its own. I love the author’s books, which are usually packed full of action, tension & excitement so I was a tad disappointed with this book. It promised much from the blurb but the first three quarters were staid by the author’s standards & whilst the last part of the book did become faster paced it was still tepid. I think this is the first time I’ve not rated her book five stars. It was well written with wonderful characters & a good read just not the engrossing, enthralling read I’ve become used to
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A quest to bring Anna back to her sister's while avoiding pirates.

This book felt like two different types of books. The first half felt like a drama with Callum and Anna getting to know eachother and her life looking after future Queen Elizabeth, and the second half felt more like an action style book. I really liked the latter half of the book, but felt like it drug on so much in Anna trying to decide if she wanted to come with Callum or go elsewhere.

I felt like having more of Anna's backstory earlier would have helped in understanding her behavior and indecision. I think Callum sharing his background helped fuel the romance versus the leaving me wondering with Anna.

I enjoyed this book and hope the next is full of action!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

The Highlander’s Tudor Lass was thrilling and romantic. All of the characters were colorful, and there was plenty of intrigue and action( however yo7 have to wait forever for it) While Callum and Anna were solid and vibrant characters, times Anna stubbornness went too far. I enjoyed the book; it just wasn’t the exciting, page-turning, swashbuckling read I had expected. I wanted some exciting cross-country chases, or sword fights onboard a pirate ship or … something. It did get livelier; it just wasn’t that bone-tingling excitement from the previous books

Will the threat of the past and present keep them apart …

I love this sibship of brothers trying to restore what was damaged by their reckless forefather.
Callum is one of the younger sons, wanting to make his mark, to prove his worth.
So when he must follow another path than his twin to fulfill their mission, he believes it is his moment to show they can rely on him. It should have been such an easy task, wrap his sister-in-law’s siblings and going back home.
But what to do when one states she will stay where she is now.
Anna unwillingness to accept Callum’s offer for a new home with their elder sister was unsettling at first, what does she have to hide. What is she not telling.
She is not a spoiled Miss but fierce and feisty, longing only for a safe place for herself after years under her lecherous father. When the reasons behind her reluctance to accept Callum’s offer are revealed, it brings under a new light her reason to stay on British land and the horrific life she experienced prior her move on English soil.

As much as they clash from the beginning, they are also drawn to one another, they in some understand the other even if Anna is not ready to give up her dreams. Unable at first to believe going back to Scotland won’t harm her.
I love too how the author is able to add some levity even when tough moments, Callum’s hide and seek game with the villains was much fun despite the gruesomeness of the threat they faced.

While a bit different from the previous books, with less action and more introspection, this book shows Callum under a different light, less a boy full of mischiefs, more a man going for what he wants and what he feels is right.

I am a huge fan of Ms. McCollum's work and she is a must get first day author for me.

I have really enjoyed all of the Brother's of Wolf Isle books so far, but this one note is a little hard to get into for the first couple chapters. Don't give up, once the adventure starts its magical. The chemistry between Callum and Anna made me smile and not want to put the book down. I enjoyed the the villain is historical real, and how this series really brings the reader back in time through the world building.

History comes alive in this stunning romance!

From the very beginning, we're off to an exciting and historically relevant start. The villain in this story is a real-life villain, and the author brilliantly ties his crimes to those of a fictional father to our fictional heroine, Anna. And I don't use that term just for convention - she truly is a heroine in her own right throughout this book. She's had to become a fierce warrior to protect herself and her sisters from a threat that is, unfortunately, still all too familiar even in today's "advanced" civilization.

Callum, the middle of five brothers, feels he has a lot to prove to his brothers and so he's determined to complete his mission to bring Anna and her sister, Dora, back to Scotland to join their older sister, Lark, now married to Callum's eldest brother, Adam. He doesn't understand why she refuses to leave England, but he more than understands the threats against her from the pirate, Jandeau.

There's plenty of romance along the way, and the action includes secrets, murder, betrayal, and a couple of particularly nasty villains who will make you disown any English roots in your own ancestry. Callum and Anna's love is tested again and again, by themselves and the threats against them, and eventually Callum is outnumbered eleven to one and has to rely on an assortment of unlikely warriors to see them all to safety.

Their HEA proves successful in bringing more healing to the willow tree that symbolizes the rebirth of Wolf Isle, and the letter from her once childhood friend serves as a beautiful epilogue that reminds us that the Me, Too movement has its roots buried deep in our shared history. It's a beautiful story from start to finish, and as much as I loved Adam and Beck in the first two books, I have to admit Callum completely stole my heart and he's now my favorite Macquarie brother.

If you love swoon-worthy, swash-buckling Highlander heroes, you don't want to miss this book. It's everything I'd hoped for and more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Oh my word! The Highlander’s Tudor Lass is so very different from the previous books in the Wolf Isle series – and, it’s great! As part of the series, this book is still a good stand-alone read. I just like reading a series in chronological order to get a better feel for characters. Callum, is different from his brothers, especially his twin, Drostan.

I was concerned since ‘Tudor Lass’ does not take place on the island, that it would lack something, but nope. Callum, always trying to prove himself; he works so hard to keep his promise to bring back Lark’s sisters, Anna and Dora. Truly not an easy promise to keep when Anna is determined not to ever return to Scotland. She has her reasons.

Anna truly has a warrior’s heart in her desire to protect her sisters and others around her. That is the woman Callum falls in love with on this romantic adventure. Their time in the English court is a story all its own and gets better as they are forced to leave. Can’t wait for Drostan’s romance!

The Highlander's Tudor Lass
Heather McCollum
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Callum Macquarie would give antything to be back in the Highlands and Wolfe Isle. Instead he is stuck at an English castle that is not defended, in breeches that are too tight. He longs to be in his bed and wearing his plaid. But he has an oath to keep. He's promised his brothers that that he would bring home the bonny Anna Montgomerie and her sister before that horrible pirate Jundeau gets to them first. The only problem is that the lass he's come to rescue doesn't want to be rescued or go back to Scotland.

Anna will not step one foot back into Scotland again, no matter how dangerous it is in England for her. Not after what she's left behind, and certainly not while there's still a chance she can remain in England. She does have a plan though. And the only hitch involves the braw and fiercely protective highlander who refuses to leave, and sets her soul on fire with one touch.

Heather McCollum is absolutely fantastic. This book is so good. From the minute I opened it and started reading, I felt like I went back in time. Ms. McCollum is one of my go to authors because I enjoy her style of writing immensely. It was nice to see Callum and Anna find their happy ever after after what they endured. I always enjoy seeing characters from her other books appear in a new book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical and Tudor romances. Thank you for taking me away from the hustle and bustle of life Ms. McCollum.

Another excellent story in the Wolf Island series. It is a fast moving story with a great plot and wonderful characters. Callum is sent on a mission to take two young ladies from England to Scotland. Anna has decided to turn what he thought would be an easy task into a difficult one. Callum is brash and bold and clashes with the fiery and stubborn personality of Anna. The story is very interesting as the conversations are witty and funny. Callum is able to win Anna’s love by giving her the reassurance she needs to be strong in who she is.

“The tempest thinks it can best us, but we stand strong against it…”

Callum Macquarie and his brothers are committed to rebuild their ancestral home on Wolf Isle. Being cursed for over 100 years, it won’t be an easy endeavor, but with hard work, they have faith it can be done. While his brothers are working on rebuilding their clan, Callum has been tasked with saving their kinfolk from the blood-thirsty pirate Jandeau. Callum travels to England to retrieve Anna Montgomerie and her sister in order to bring them back to the safety and protection of the clan on Wolf Isle. But Anna is damned and determined never to set foot in Scotland ever again…even if her would be rescuer is a brawny highlander that sets her soul aflame.

Heather McCollum has a gift for weaving funtastical tales full of smexxy highlanders! For some reason, I struggled with the first half of this book. Perhaps it was Anna’s stubborn nature beginning to grate a wee bit on my nerves, or maybe I was missing the high seas swashbuckling adventure from the previous story. While this wasn’t my fav of the Wolf Isle series thus far, it’s still an enjoyable read and I’d recommend.

4 Stars! I really enjoyed this book. This is the 3rd book in the ‘Brothers of Wolf Isle’ series and can be read as a standalone, for the most part. I read the first book, missed the second and I wish I had read book 2 before I read this third book. It’s still a good book but I missed a few things by not reading the second book. The main characters, Callum and Anna, were great together. They are both caring, protective and honorable. Perfect for one another.
I did feel like the book was pretty predictable for the most part. Still I enjoyed reading it. It has mystery, action, fighting against the odds, witty banter, murder, a few steamy ‘sexy times’, pirates, and love, finished off with an HEA ending.
*I received this at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*

The Highlander's Tudor Lass is the third book in Heather McCollum's The Brother's of Wolf Isle series. I will admit to feeling a bit confused at the beginning of the book. There was a hurried nature to the opening chapters which had me feeling at odds with myself whether or not to continue reading. But having been instantly drawn in by Callum's character, I am pleased that I continued reading. I loved Callum and how he viewed and respected Anna immediately for the strengths she possessed. And his own growth in realizing in the end that his brother's never allowing him to go at a task alone was not based on Callum's inabilities but in the fact that a team is often what is needed to survive life's biggest hurdles. I do believe it would have benefited me greatly to have read the first two books in the series, as the vendetta with the pirate that was after Anna and Dora, featured in the previous books and would have brought me further context into the story. Sadly, it felt like I started a novel more in the middle than in the beginning. Since finishing The Highlander's Tudor Lass, I have rectified this situation by purchasing the first two books in the series as once I got passed the opening chapters I really enjoyed Heather's McCollum's writing and characterization.

While I have enjoyed other books in this series, I found it difficult to get into this one. Maybe I wasn’t in the right frame of mind, maybe because I am not fond of English court, but the beginning part of this book was a struggle for me. Once the characters started for Chester, to a competing swain’s abode, I was more engrossed. I liked the characters. I enjoyed the storyline, there was mild steam and some humor. I would have liked more conflict between Callum and Anna. On the whole, I enjoyed this read.
