I'm a total sucker for smol dogs (and a proud and loyal servant to 2 elderly Chihuahuas, a sassy lil chiweenie, and a very chubby mutt...all rescued from sad circumstances). I thought this would be a cute but fluffy book, perfect to look at after a long stressful day when I didn't want to think. Look how adorable Boobie is in that little outfit!!!

I was surprised to find that this book contained some actual wisdom amongst the cute photos, especially in the chapter on relationships. It got a bit serious there! I had flashbacks to all the times when I had been treated poorly and was disrespected by a SO, but not knowing any better, I kept my mouth shut and took the abuse. I may have even teared up a bit, feeling sad for my younger self, and for others who are in those situations now.

I don't have kids, but I think this book would be an especially great gift for teens and young adults because of the advice given on how to value, love, and take care of yourself --- something that some of us were never taught in our formative years by our less than stellar and non-loving parents. It's all done in a fun, uplifting, and kind way (and did I mention the totally adorb pics of Booby? JUST LOOK AT HER SWEET FACE!!!). 😍

Heck, this a great gift for anyone, except maybe those weirdos who hate dogs. (They might not be receptive to the messages within, even though they could be the ones who need to receive them most. Sad.) So, yes, I gave this a high rating for the emotional hug it provided despite it not being serious literature. Loved it!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC. I'm buying this when it comes out, for sure.

I was hoping for more cute pictures and less mindless chatter. I gave up by chapter two. I got Instagram and tiktok to watch cute animals and I respect the fun nature of it. It just wasn't for Me.

Picture this, bb:
You want something light to read. It has to be fun, funny, fanciful...even flirty. You have to be able to read it on the beach with it still holding your attention. And, of course, you would like a fantastic setting and a charming main character. Enter Becoming Fabulous. Set in New York City, the narrator struggles to live her dream while pushing the boundaries of the fashion industry (think Sex in the City meets The Devil Wears Prada). I should mention here that the narrator is a 6-pound greyhuahua and Instagram star, Boobie Billie.
I knew absolutely nothing about Boobie Billie before picking up this book. Also, being completely un-hip, I knew very little of the modern terms frequently used--bb being one of them (thank goodness there was a glossary).
Becoming Fabulous was an absolutely delightful ride. As I am not exactly the target audience (I'm mid-60s, retired, not fashion-focused and not into Instagram), I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Me being me, I dove head first down a few rabbit holes to learn more about the backstory -- which was also very informative and highly entertaining.
This book's stated genre is self-help. It offers excellent pearls of wisdom and is bound to make you smile. It includes tons of Instagram photos that support the story and speed up your reading time. First and foremost, I would place this publication in the self-care and fashion genres.
If you are looking for a fast, fun read that may differ from your usual fare, I highly recommend Becoming Fabulous (scheduled for release in October 2022).
Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Horizon and Team Boobie Billie for granting me an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for this honest review.

Becoming Fabulous is such a cute book "by" Boobie Billie, of the popular Instagram account. I loved all the fun photos and the accompanying stories. I do wish there was a little deference/homage given to the drag culture, as a lot of the catchphrases originated there. Very cute book, perfect for display.
