This book is great for beginners at piping. I really liked the step by step instructions for the different designs with pictures at each stage so you could really see what you were aiming for. The variety of different flowers and succulents was great. I wish there had been more examples of finished arrangements on cakes so there was an idea of how they could be used in different ways but overall and informative, easy to follow guide!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. (via Netgalley)
Pretty and the instructions were laid out in a manner that was easy to follow.
This book is so detailed and beautiful, I feel like I could easily follow the tips and instructions to create my own botanical cake. Chapters are Essential Supplies, Getting Started, The Fundamental Four Techniques, Prepping the Cake Canvas, and Adding Final Touches and Creating Arrangements. The book includes full color photos of everything, recipes for buttercream and chocolate and vanilla cakes, It covers how to color the frosting, and it shows the steps in the fundamental techniques chapter in multiple photos, along with a photo of the tips needed. These flowers and botanicals are gorgeous! The flowers are named, and there are also succulents and pinecones, which are all shown individually but also on layer cakes and/or cupcakes. The chapter on prepping the cake canvas gives decorating techniques and ideas for the background of the cake before the botanical elements are added. I also liked that everything was accomplished in buttercream.

This is a very thorough book!
Covering everything from cake recipes, icing, and color theory there's a lot of information on frosting and decorating cakes. There's helpful tips for making botanicals including succulents and how to add accents and other decorations. The book includes step-by-step pictures that helpfully show how to make some botanicals.
A great find for those wanting to make botanical cakes!

This ‘how to’ floral cupcake decorating book covers everything you ever wanted to know when it comes to making your bakes look beautiful with flowers. The instructions are clear, simple and in easy to follow wording, and the step by step close up photographs guide you through each individual component of the decoration you’re doing. It talks you through all the essential equipment, so you’re prepped and ready to go from the off. It covers everything from the different consistency icing you need, the different nozzles to achieve different effects, and top tips as you go along. It’s definitely given me the confidence to have a go at decorating - something I’ve always shied away from. If you’re wanting to give cupcake decorating a go, I’d definitely recommend this book. There’s loads of beautiful flowers to recreate, from cacti and succulents, to the classic rose. Would definitely recommend!
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
I loved this. The variety of flowers Leslie Vigil shows you how to create is much larger than your normal book on buttercream flowers and the layout is really easy to follow. It's written in a really accessible way, not masses of technical jargon. The tip about using pliers for altering your piping tips was not something id thought of and loved it! Though I think she missed a trick with that because if she had brought a set of piping tips altered as she suggests i know id buy them! Whilst she gives you instructions on how to alter the tips it is a case of trial and error with the pressure required etc and because of that id happily buy a set rather than mess up lots of tips (which i suspect I will be doing). Fab book all in all.

First of all, I received this book on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Second, thank you so much to the author for writing this. The timing is so perfect for me as I am really interested in learning how to bake and decorate. AND my best friends wedding is coming up so what better thing to bring than dessert?!
My review of this book is simple. I loved it. I loved the recipes, the tips scattered throughout, the simplicity of the formatting and the language used and the constant referrals to the pages of information if you forgot something, I liked all the pictures, the attention to detail. I liked that this author actually used brands so that I had a concrete easy list to go to the store with not just a vague idea of what was need from tools to ingredients and more.
Overall it felt like I was hanging out with a friend and they were teaching me this skill and they were honest and not trying to swindle me for money and it was a good time.
This is a gorgeous, informative book that's packed with photos and step by step instructions for piping beautiful flower designs. There are all kinds of tutorials for all kinds of flowers and patterns, and lots and lots of photos. Very detailed. Recommended for anyone who wants to take their cake decorating and piping to the next level and wants a lot of inspiration and advice.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
This is a non fiction book for everyone who loves to bake and decorate cakes. So it's ideal for me.
It explains in simply steps how to pipe different flowers and leaves. It explains the equipment needed and how to alter it to your needs.
I do think this is a great instruction to piping buttercream flowers which I love doing but which also often enough still breaks me (it's a learning curve). I did enjoy the insight and the knowledge. Only complaint would lie in the buttercream recipe itself. Used is a Swiss meringue buttercream with pasteurised eggs which you can't buy everywhere so the alternative recipe with heating up your egg whites and sugar would have been nice. But that is only a minor complaint.
Overall well explained and will help me get better at piping.
Thank you to #Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book is perfect for anyone wanting to up their cake decorating game! I loved how it started completely from scratch with introducing the equipment needed, choosing colours and things to practice before going on to loads of different flowers to try, all with step by step picture instructions!
Super fun and informative! There are lots of pictures to go with the instructions so it is very easy to follow and understand. It also gives very clear instructions on how to achieve the different flowers.
