As a sufferer of this condition I found this book extremely informative. Terri Ward has the credentials to speak with authority on all aspects of this condition and she offers a rich menu of foods which are beneficial to sufferers. The book is laid out in a simple and easy to understand way, detailing the physical issues, diagnosis and possible medical solutions as well as how to live with Diverticulitis. Although written with Americans in mind with regard to menus, the recipes can be easily used by any country or cultural tastes. My thanks to Netgalley, the authors and Terri Ward for this very informative book.
I wish I had this cookbook years ago! Packed with tons of useful information. There’s even a meal plan for flare ups & after.
I wish there were more pictures included in the book. But I guarantee you, you won’t feel deprived following this books advice.
This recipe book had such an interesting and basic take on this health issue. I liked the explanations offered and the tips to help track the flares and work through the stages of healing needed for digestive relief. I liked that the recipes had basic whole ingredients that can be found anywhere. I felt that this book was both informative and offered a way to manage this condition in a way that is not overly complicated. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.
The Healing Diverticulitis Cookbook is very informative and a good tool to have if you or a loved one suffers with this disease. The book has many recipes, all of them divided by if you're having a flare up or not and how to reintroduce certain foods into your diet after the flare up.
Though most of the recipes didn't appeal to me, personally, I think a lot of people would find them interesting and tasty.
The Healing Diverticulitis Cookbook is the first resource I have seen of its kind.
I have a very good friend who has recently been diagnosed with diverticulitis and has been having immense difficulty navigating the new upset to their lifestyle. As a 'helper' this cookbook did an excellent job explaining to me what the disease is and the dietary implications.
The early chapters discuss the phases of the illness and how to treat each respectively. I had NO idea that there was such a vast range of needs and restrictions for each stage of flare-up!
After learning about the phases of flare-up, the book is divided into recipes by phase and meal with clearly labeled benefits for each. High fiber, low fiber, and clear liquid.
Though it is the first and most extensive cookbook I have seen of its kind, there are still a few tweaks I might like to see in future editions/revisions. Firstly, the ingredients are largely seasonal and may be difficult to find depending on the area you live in. Secondly, there are VAST differences in the number of servings each dish may make. While this may be ideal for meal prepping it may not be best for everyone, I cannot foresee large family groups adhering to a diverticulitis-friendly diet for a single family member. And finally, I personally struggle with produce conversions by ounce. While there is a guide at the back of the book, it may detract from the convenience.
Overall, I would give this read a 4/5 for variety and value of information. The detractors are all nit-picky at best and easily overlooked. An excellent resource for anyone who is suffering or knows someone who is suffering from diverticulitis!
[Thank you to NetGalley, Callisto Media, and Rockridge Press for a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.}
I found this to be a very informative book. The recipes look tasty as well as healthy. I’m excited to cook some of them.
Thank you to NetGalley and Callisto Media for the opportunity to read and review this book.
While the information behind diverticulitis was fascinating, I couldn't find myself really drawn to any of the recipes in this book. While there is some creativity there, they didn't feel appetizing to me.
This is a great book for those who have diverticulitis. I found the book informative and the recipes delicious !!
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Having received a diagnosis of diverticulitis recently, this cookbook has been a godsend. Thank you for creating easy, quick and healthy recipes for those of us who are struggling to keep the flare ups at bay.
Although I do not have this painful condition (a friend does) , I though it may be useful as I have IBS and type 2 diabetes. Actually we looked through the book together over coffee and found many useful ideas and recipes to help us both. My friend is buying it as soon as it hits the shelves !
