In My Country, George Canyon details his childhood growing up in rural Nova Scotia, his dream of becoming an astronaut, his type 1 diabetes diagnosis, his road to music, and his success under the bright lights of Nashville.
Like his songs, Canyon crafts a tale filled with stories about family, love, faith, and place.

I recall following George Canyon journey on Nashville Star, and I have always enjoyed his distinct voice and his music. When I learned he was writing a memoir, I knew it would be one I'd want to read.
Written in simple tone, I learned a lot about him that I didn't already know, and came away with a greater appreciation for him as a person. There are strong themes of perseverance, faith, and family. He details various stages of his life, and especially the work and effort he put into getting to where he is today. There were obstacles along the way and he offers a gentle reminder to keep believing in our dreams.
I'd highly recommend the audiobook, as it is read by the author. His voice is so engaging and is made for telling stories, which enhanced the experience. His personality really shines, as does his humour.
Overall, a solid listen that allowed me to learn more about a Canadian country music singer who has often felt like a closed book. Lastly, it is important to note that there is a strong faith/religious focus, so if that's not something you jive with, My Country may not work for you.

This well-written biography was a pleasure to read.
George Canyon started life in Pictou County NS in 1970. His childhood career, to be an astronaut came to a crashing halt when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Career goals continued to be reassessed even after he became a county music singer and song writer. A humble presentation by a superstar of country music.
I look forward to buying print copies to share!
