A wife hires Henry Kimball, PI, to prove her husband is cheating. The wife, a person he knew in his past career as a high school English teacher, is proving to be someone who makes him uneasy. What should have been a simple case, turns into a murder case with possible ties to his past that Henry is determined to solve if someone doesn’t stop him first. The author does a great job of keeping you engaged with the storyline with an ultimately satisfying ending. I would recommend the book and the author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this follow-up to Peter Swanson's The Kind Worth Killing. Swanson's unlikely duo, the flawed Henry Kimball and Lily Kintner are back and as twisty as before. The book has charming moments dealing with Henry and Lily's complicated relationship, and offers as many turns as TKWK gave us; enough callbacks to the first book to make the reader smile, but not so alike that it feels dull and overdone. I was excited to get the chance to preview this title, and remain a solid fan of Peter Swanson with this newest offering. Definitely recommending this one to others!

My thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for the opportunity to preview this title in exchange for my honest opinion.

Have you read The Kind Worth Killing?

If the answer is NO, then I highly suggest you read it before picking up The Kind Worth Saving.

Peter Swanson’s highly anticipated sequel introduces new characters, but also continues with Henry Kimball and Lily Kintner’s story. It contains some recap, but will likely leave readers confused without knowledge of the previous book.

Joan Grieve hires private detective Henry Kimball to investigate whether her husband is having an affair with his co-worker. However, before he can verify this assumption, he becomes a witness for their deaths. Was it murder or suicide? Joan has a bombshell secret that Henry must unravel in order to determine what happened to Richard Grieve and his mistress.

I was one of the few who didn’t understand the cult following of Peter Swanson’s first book in the series. While I enjoyed some of the twists, it was a three star read for me. After reading the second book in the series, I have realized that the reason I struggled to enjoy it was because the plot glorifies murder and killing. Regardless of the fact that it is fiction, I just can’t get behind that. Additionally, one of the major plot points in this book is a school shooting. This is a hard no for me.

Those who enjoy books about serial killers will most likely enjoy this book. Unfortunately, I think this will be the last book that I will read about this topic.

3/5 stars

Trigger warning: School shooting

Expected publication date: 3/7/23

Thanks to William Morrow for the copy of this ARC.

This sequel to The Kind Worth Killing (which you absolutely have to read first!) was a fun venture back to Henry Kimball and Lily Kintner. I loved the plot of this one and how Lily was incorporated into Henry’s newest case. Lily’s return and the ending of this book were absolutely the best part, but I did also love our villain’s journey as a serial killer from childhood to the present day. The middle of this dragged a bit for me and I definitely could’ve used more Lily because she’s the best, but still a story with an engaging plot line!

This is the first book by Peter Swanson I have read and I have to say it was pretty addictive.

Henry Kimball, a P.I, is hired by Joan, a wife who is looking for confirmation that her husband is having an affair. The story is told in back and forth chapters between Joan's summer vacation as a child and her present day life. This is the 2nd book in the Henry Kimball series and even though I haven't read the 1st book, I didn't feel like it was necessary to have read it in order to follow this one. In saying that, there were enough references to the previous book that I am very interested in picking it up.
This storyline holds a lot of secrets till the end, that kept my mind working on possibilities even when I wasn't reading it. The perfect kind of story that stays in your head till you reach the final page.

Great book for all you detective readers that like putting the pieces together to see if you can predict the ending.

Peter Swanson is an auto-buy author for me. I read The Kind Worth Killing years ago when it came out and loved it so I was so happy to get sent a copy of the sequel. I would recommend reading that one first (although you dont *have* to) as I think it would make your experience stronger. Once again, he nailed it. Lily is such a complex and sympathetic character even though shes a cold-blooded killer. I loved seeing her relationship with Henry grow from the first book. If you haven't checked out Swanson yet I highly recommend his work!

The Kind Worth Saving by Peter Swanson is the follow up to The Kind Worth Killing. In my opinion, you will get much more out of this book by reading the first one. This was a really great follow up and certain parts were stronger than the first. While TKWK has better shocks, TKWS really focused more on the characters. Getting to see Kimball and Lily again was really fun. The growth of the characters propelled the story forward. Swanson writes the best morally ambiguous villains and I’m here for it. I’m really hoping Swanson has a third book planned.

I LOVED the kind worth killing and was so very excited for this book but it just didn’t compel me in the same way. I felt like it fell a little flat and didn’t give me the excitement that I was craving. I had such high hopes for this but I was not as impressed as I was with kind worth killing.

Detective Kimball is back as a private investigator this time and he brought along Lily Kitner; remember her from The Kind Worth Killing?! TKWS is a binge-worthy game of cat and mouse that I devoured. I love a good serial killer thriller and this one delivered. It’s engaging and shocking with twists I didn’t see coming. The character development is top notch, too. 🤌🏽

This was my first book by Swanson (no, I didn’t read TKWK; I’m a rebel.) I read the synopsis for book 1 and can easily say this can be read as a standalone.

Small bonus - the nostalgia at the mention Ninety Nine Restaurant (that was one of my favorites in college at UMass) and Papa Gino’s where I worked while in high school. 🙌🏽

Years ago, I fell madly in love with a thriller called The Kind Worth Killing. And yes, as the title plainly states, it was one dark creepy look at humanity. And I was there for all of it. It remains a favorite thriller, one I recommended often when a friend needed a page turner.

QOTD? Could lightening strike twice?
Answer: Mostly YES

We still have the quirky former teacher, former policeman now, and current private detective. We still have the woman who, let’s just say, has an interesting take on morals and who should be allowed to live.

Added into the new story is a woman who has hired our PI to follow a suspected cheating husband, and oops, husband ends up dead. Re-enter my favorite character, the woman with questionable morals (that yes, I get great entertainment out of!)

This is a twisty, turning, deliciously wicked thriller, perfect for those of us with a twisted mind.

What a good twisted crime psychological thriller book, did not see the twist coming. This was my first book by this author and I will now need to read the book before this one. Our detective in this series is your typical Columbia style guy who seems to not have his life together but yet can pull small clues and tidbits together to find the truth.
This was a quick easy read with characters that make you cringe . How the murderer planned and executed murders takes a dark twisted path.

I would recommend this book to family and friends and my book clubs

I voluntarily received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and all opinions are my own

🔪THE KIND WORTH SAVING by Peter Swanson🔪

📆Pub date: March 7, 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Read if you like:
📖The Kind Worth Killing
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Multi-POV
🥸Morally gray characters

Going to keep this review short because this is a sequel and I don’t want to spoil anything from The Kind Worth Killing! Do not read this book unless you have read the first because it will spoil everything!

I was so happy with this sequel because it wrapped up all the loose ends from the first one and we got to see what some of our favorite characters have been up to since the events of The Kind Worth Killing. There’s a whole new story as well that will keep you guessing.

The new characters we meet are just as morally gray and unlikeable yet extremely intriguing. There are at least 4 POVs and you will never be bored reading this.

Joan hires Henry Kimball to tail her lying, cheating husband and deliver evidence back to her. But Joan’s request stirs up several memories, not to mention a few dead bodies.

The Kind Worth Saving is a loose sequel to one of my favorite books - The Kind Worth Killing. You don’t *have* to read TKWK for TKWS to make sense, but I’m telling you that you should and you’d be spoiled if you ever tried to go back.

Henry Kimball was a detective in the devious case of Lily Kintner back in the original book, but after being let go due to the case, he’s back - now as a private investigator, but still obsessing over Lily. It was great to see Lily back on the page - cunning as ever - but this book is definitely Joan and Richard’s story.

Per usual, I loved the several twists and turns Peter Swanson takes. I thought the sequel paralleled the first book’s characters and twists pretty nicely - which meant there were a few twists I guessed, but also some I didn’t. Either way I was flipping pages with no signs of stopping to finish this in a day!

Thanks to @netgalley and @williammorrowbooks for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Henry Kimball is shocked when one of his former students Joan comes to ask him to find out if her husband is cheating on her. When he finds both her husband and his mistress dead in a murder/suicide something feels off. It seems Joan is always surrounded by death. Henry is determined to get to the bottom of this…

Ok so did I have to google all the spoilers from The Kind Worth Killing before starting this one? Yes, yes I did. I completely forgot most of that book so I need to reset my brain! That said, after a quick spoiler review, I finished this book in one sitting. I usually find when there are multiple points of view, or different time periods, I generally like one more than the other, but this book had me hooked during them all. I just could not stop reading to see how everything played out. While this one wasn’t the 5 star masterpiece that The Kind Worth Killing was, it was still insanely good and enjoyable! So if you enjoyed Killing, I highly recommend Saving!

A decent read but unfortunately I don’t think Peter Swanson books are for me. I just don’t love them like everyone else seems to.

I thoroughly enjoyed this continuation of Peter Swanson's much-loved thriller, The Kind Worth Killing. TKWK ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, or at least required some speculation from the reader, so it was very satisfying to see where the characters ended up and what happened after TKWK ended. The ending of The Kind Worth Saving gave me a lot more closure than the previous book did.

Swanson said himself that TKWS is a semi-sequel. While the TKWK characters do appear and there's some explanation given to what happened after TKWK ended, TKWS has its own plot and a new set of characters. The new plot felt very familiar compared to the previous book, but it had its differences and I enjoyed how it turned out.

Without spoilers, I can't say much more! The character Richard went to the same college as I did! I forgot how much Kimball's limericks cracked me up in the first book and was glad there were more in this one. Fans of The Kind Worth Killing will definitely want to read this book. If you haven't read The Kind Worth Killing, I definitely recommend picking it up first.

The Kind Worth Saving by Peter Swanson 🌚

After reading The Kind Worth Killing last year & discovering one of my favorite villains (LILY 😈), I was excited to dive into the sequel!

Swanson knows how to craft up a book!! 👏 His writing was just as entertaining this time around brining back our beloved characters from book 1: Lily & Henry 🖤, along with some new untrustworthy friends 🤫 However, I wasn’t as satisfied with this plot overall. I love MPOV stories, but it created a lottt of repetitive text for some reason. I found the pacing to be middle speed, with the ending happening super quick… 🙁 Not always my fav! In the end, there was a lack of that shock factor that I seek in a solid thriller. It was still a fun, thought-provoking ride with unique elements that kept me interested!!

MY RATING: 🌟🌟🌟💫 (3.5/5)
READ IF YOU LIKE: detective vibes, bookworm characters, mysterious thrillers, MPOV, shifting timelines
PUBLISHES: 3/7

Tip- I don’t recommend this one as a standalone novel. Read book 1 first!!

Thank you @netgalley & @williammorrow for my #gifted e-ARC!

A bit of a combination of a spin-off and sequel, I wasn’t sure how much I needed to remember from the first book but it all came tumbling back. I really enjoyed Joan and Richard and their story came together in a fun way. The present day timeline was fine until about 65-70% and then the tone of the book changed. Some great twists but the ending was a little too sentimental for me.

I had no idea what to expect from this sequel after the ending of The Kind Worth Killing and I must say it really surprised me in a great way. The way it was broken up with the various POVs was fabulous. The ending was not the most surprising and parts of the book felt extreme, but overall, it was a great second book!

Huge thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

Confession Time:
I took a few days, where I did NOT want to read this book any further, because I did not want it
to end yet !

Yes, you read that right !

Some may say Peter Swanson's second book as a follow up to 'The Kind Worth Killing' can not be topped.
To those of you, who think that: You just have not understood the first book at all.

I mean - the first "The Kind Worth..."-book left us with a cliff-hanger:
What happened to Henry and Lily after ???

I mean, have you never read a book which you absolutely LOVED, but was left with a huge-cliff hanger and you never knew what happened to the characters after ?

Peter Swanson gave us the answers this time, and I loved it !

There was no further cliff-hanger with this book - however, if the author WANTED to, he could write another book and make it a Henry/Lily series - but why ?

I think, the end was sweet and left to your imagination.
On the other hand, there were no threads left...

I give it the same 5 stars I gave the previous "The Kind Worth..." book, because it picked right up, where it left previously.

I won't give a synopsis, because there are many out there and you can read a little more of the story somewhere else...just let me add that I thought, that the whole story about another murder - actually 3 (partially manipulated) murders committed over years was brilliant.

And the last murder - the way how it was performed - just really blew my mind.
I wonder, how the author came up with the idea ?

I would highly recommend, to read this book.
However, the best way to enjoy this book is, if you read THE KIND WORTH KILLING first, and then immediately read THE KIND WORTH SAVING after, because it will feel like one huge story with questions answered and a beautiful ending !
