This is book 1 in a great psychic series, The Marni Legend. Marni Legend is about to publish her thirteenth novel. Gus Zuckerman has been hanging around since his death in nineteen-ninety-five. With her deadline looming and her recently deceased mother refusing to move on, can Marni dispatch both spirits and still have time for romance? I enjoy books with ghost helping the characters solve mysteries and murder. Marnie's family has a strange strait, they see dead people. Her brother can't see them, Just talk to them and her older sister can't do either. She and Marni aren't close. I look forward to book 2 and see how this family gets along.
Light mystery with a bit of killing and humor mix in the story. Marni has the ability to communicate with the unrest spirit. Gus is the currennt case Marni trying to solve. But handling Gus wasnt easy especially if it a spirit of a handfull and rebelious boy. That was only the tip of the iceberg, what happened to Gus wasnt a normal death a somehow related to a lot of people.
Character wise, it was okay. However something that been bothering me is how they monologue something unrelated with the scene. It was so random and I dont think it was necessary. Somehow, I do understand how the author want to make Marni as someone unbothered and reckless character (perk of being 2nd child) but some part is just too random and unrelated.
Marni Legend and some of the members of her family have a very special ability, they can all hear the dead. Marni can hear and see the dead but her brother, Calvin can only hear them. Their sister Gloria can’t hear or see ghosts. We meet Gus, a wayward ghost in need of help to move on. Gus seeks out Marni and it’s her job to get him to move on and find peace or at least answers. Normally, it is fairly easy for Marni to get the ghosts who visit her to move on but there are many complications and dangerous secrets shrouding the answers Marni needs to help Gus find out how he died to get him to move on. Marni has to put herself in dangerous situations and hang around scary, creepy, and very stinky men in order to find answers, Gus hung out with quite the bad crowd before he died.
It starts with Marni meeting Gus’s brother, Jake. Marni doesn’t really know what to think about Jake because he has to be a bad guy, at least a little bit because he is part of the same bad crowd of thieves, but is he so bad that he could kill his own brother? Marni doesn’t want to fall in love with a potential murderer but somehow, that’s what she finds herself doing. Jake is sweet and extremely sexy, maybe he is different from the company he keeps?
This book was seriously amazing. I loved everything about it, including the character names. Usually character names don’t stick out a lot to me, I just use them to remember who is who but I normally remember character traits more. However, with this book I thought the character names were perfect. Something about the names is just perfect, their names fit their characteristics perfectly. I can just tell the author put real care into these characters and I appreciate that because I plan on being with Marni through her other adventures to come. The plot was incredible, I guessed pieces of the plot but there were still things for me to be surprised by. I love being surprised by a plot but I don’t get surprised like I used to because I read a lot of mystery novels, so to be genuinely surprised by this plot was a wonderful treat for me. Now onto the wit of this book. Oh. My. Goshness. This book is so hilarious, I can’t tell you how many times I got a funny look by my husband while reading this book because I was literally laughing out loud and doing it loudly. Marni is incredibly witty, I loved reading her banter with everyone whether it be Gus, Gloria, Jake, Jason, or even her own mother, she always has a hilarious remark, even in the very face of danger. I seriously can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Helping spirits is what Marni does but this time, she’s in over her head and doesn’t know who to trust. On the way to her mother’s funeral, Marni meets Gus. He’s been dead since the 90s but that doesn’t stop him from talking to Marni. See, besides being an author, she has a special gift of seeing and talking to dead people. *cue suspenseful music* It appears Gus needs her help to find out who killed him. Great. Now, she’s following a tow truck driver’s ghost into dark, even dangerous, circumstances she doesn’t even know she can flirt her way out of. Along the way, she meets handsome Jake (Gus’ brother) who asks her out. Gus wants her to find his killer but she’s not sure she wants to know. After all, she could be dating Gus’ killer. No woman wants to know that do they? Can Marni help Gus, please her mum’s spirit, and finish her latest book?
Spirit in Tow is a fun, flirty, paranormal mystery I thoroughly enjoyed. With razor-sharp wit, tongue-in-cheek humor, a cast of zany characters (both alive and dead), and a mystery to solve, Spirit in Tow ticks all of the boxes. From the first page, I connected with Marni. She’s a hoot and a half and I laughed at her hilarious dialogue. She’s also got sass which I adored. The paranormal scenes were fun and inventive. Terry Segan takes her world-building seriously and her hard work shows in the plot. Take away the humorous dialogue and you have a detailed paranormal mystery. The humor is added to lighten things up. There’s a bit of romance, too, which added another layer to the overall story. Expertly written, Spirit in Tow is what mystery lovers crave. If you love paranormal mysteries, pick up Spirit in Tow. If you love humorous mysteries, you’ll want to read Spirit in Tow. Fans of Janet Evanovich will adore Spirit in Tow. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend!

Spirit in Tow
When your mom won’t give up the ghost
I got such a kick out of this book. Imagine having to decide between two beaux, one likely a
criminal, the other a former boyfriend. Poor Marni, whose mom insists on hanging around after her death (the mom's) and whose sister is a real pain in the... Well, the mom isn’t the only one dropping by. There’s Gus, who’s been dead since the 90s and seems to think Marni can help him clear up a few things. In fact, there are a lot of dead people in this tale of a writer who can’t make up her mind when it comes to men and doesn’t choose friends wisely. Good thing she’s fast on her feet and isn’t afraid to jump into strange situations.
Because when it comes to Marni Legend, one adventure follows another.
Paranormal is a newish genre for me, so I was excited to discover a world I’m unfamiliar with, a world that seems normal at first glance but is definitely not. In a good way. This read was charming and full of banter. I‘m already looking forward to the next in the series.
This was a very pleasant surprise and thoroughly enjoyed this mix of cozy mystery and paranormal.
It's well plotted, the characters are fleshed, the solid plot kept me hooked
I fell in love with the cover and then I fell in love with the story.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
This book sucked me in. The mystery plot line was well-written and the characters were rich and realistic. My favourite aspects of the story were the human relationships woven into the tale, in particular, the one between the main character, Marni, and her sister Gloria. I would definitely recommend this book to lovers of ghosts and mysteries.
I love a good ghost cozy mystery. This is exactly what you get with this book! The main character Marni is full of spunk and is willing to go the extra mile to help the ghosts that come to her.
The book is an easy read but make sure you give yourself some time because you won't want to put it down. I enjoyed the characters even the shady ones. I can't wait for the next in the series!
This is a solid mystery with two layers that I really enjoyed: the main character is in her 40s rather than the typical 18-20s and she speaks and talks with ghosts.
I was a bit thrown because I was expecting this to be a cozy mystery, but this is definitely more in suspense/hardboiled side of mystery (don't be fooled by that pastel cover). With that genre change there is a lot of misogynist and fatphobic comments and tones within this book that was far from the cozy vibes I was expecting. Most of this makes sense for the characters (almost every character is sleezy and a potential suspect - so you aren't supposed to like or agree with them), but there are times it comes from the inner narration of the main character and that was a choice for the author (and in my opinion unnecessary).
My other problem is the relationship between the sisters - it didn't feel realistic at any point during that subplot. There wasn't enough backstory for the antagonism or the resolution.
I think the plot was well done, the pacing was great, and the mystery itself was unique. This is a well written mystery and despite some problems, this is a interesting new take on a mystery with plenty of twists.

Synopsis:
Marni leads a mostly normal life after her divorce. She lives above a bakery (jealous) and squabbles with her siblings from time to time.
However, after her mom dies and a spirit comes knocking on her door, Marni gets tangled up in secrets she never should have been involved with,
💭 My thoughts 💭
This was a quick and easy read for me. I enjoyed the plot and the twist at the end was good.
What I did enjoy was some of the talking down of a certain female character. Especially coming from a woman herself? I think this was rather indelicate and not necessary at all.
All of the men characters were mostly pigs. With the exception of one guy, all of them were basically 🤏🏻 Close to committing (or had already committed) SA. It wasn’t cute, imo.
Overall, good book. High on entertainment, low on respect for women I guess.
Marni see ghosts that leads her into a lot of trouble with trying to help the ghosts she also has to put up
with the ghost of her mother who trying to set play match maker from the other side.
Very good fun read.
Voluntarily reviewe.
4.5* This book is "I see dead people" but they are sassy.
I love me some cozy mysteries and this was the best I have read all year. This main character is badass and funny. The story was action packed but also sweet. This was the best of all worlds as far as cozy mysteries go. I cannot wait to continue on the series.
This is the perfect read between your heavy books. It is just plain entertaining and fun!
My sincere thanks to the author and Backlit PR for the gifted review copy via NetGalley. This book is available September 7th.
Marni Legend sees dead people. They seek her out hoping she will find why they can't rest in peace. Marni fearlessly charges Into the fray to help tow truck driver Gus Zuckerman find answers. She goes right to the source, starting a relationship with his brother Jake who does business with a criminal bunch. Marni finds humor even in the most dangerous situations. When her mother's ghost joins the party, Marni has to deal with her uptight sister to get a problem with cremation ashes resolved. Ms. Segan has written a delightful story with some unexpected twists in the plot and a full share of marvelous quirky characters. Can't wait to read the next book in the Marni Legend series. I received an e-copy of this book through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
