This one seemed to drag on a bit. It seemed a little bit like more of the same and I wasn’t super invested in the narrative. More language than I prefer.

This series just keeps me guessing and wondering at every turn. The suspense level felt off the charts for this read and I can't help wanting to know where this'll land!

Another good addition to Finlay's adventures. Thanks, #NetGalley, for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

I can't decide if Finlay has the best or the worst luck imaginable. These are becoming strangely comforting, which, somewhat ironically, I'm not completely comfortable with.

This series continues to be a good time. I don't know why I waited so long to read it. It is definitely binge worthy. I just can't put it down.

Thank you for this copy of Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun! I have really come to enjoy the Finlay series, unfortunately this one wasn't my favorite. I really didn't care for the plot and there were small things that just started to get bothersome. The wit, humor, and charisma that Finlay has still was nice but the other parts I couldn't get into. Overall, it was okay, but not the best! I am still interested in reading the rest of the series.

*Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun* by Elle Cosimano is another delightful and fast-paced entry in the series. Finlay is back, juggling more chaotic situations, hilarious mishaps, and unexpected danger as she continues her accidental foray into the world of crime. Cosimano’s sharp wit and knack for blending humor with suspense make this book a joy to read. The plot is full of twists, and Finlay's charm and relatability shine through once again, keeping readers hooked from start to finish. If you love quirky mysteries with heart, this one is a must-read!

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is the third book in the Finlay Donovan series. In this book we follow Finlay and Vero as they tag along with Georgia and Nick on a citizen's police academy. We follow along as they try and uncover who EasyClean is.

What can I say I love Finlay and Vero's friendship and their shenanigans. This book just like the others is full of laughs, mystery and chaos. I always think this duo is going to lead us somewhere and then they do a 180 and we are lead in a completely different way. I liked how we found a bit more of Vero's backstory and how she and Finlay keep getting closer and that their sisterly bond is here to stay.

I liked that in this book we have, at least for now, the end of the love triangle and that Finlay, hopefully, next book will listen to her heart and try to have a relationship with this man.

I give this book 4.5 stars, I have rounded to 5 stars as there are no half stars here.

Thank you NetGalley and Elle Cosimano for making this book available as a read now on NetGalley and giving me a chance to binge on this series.

Some really gripping action😯

I found this third in the series a faster read than the second, grabbing my interest and keeping it so I went beginning to end with minor breaks. It's still incredible the trouble Finlay and her nanny/accountant Vero stumble into, especially when they're surrounded by cops. The final action scene was the most exciting: a winner for me. And the story is chockful of twists and suspicious characters who keep Finlay in constant suspense as she tries to uncover the identity of EasyClean the contract killer.

I loved little Zach's obsession with the men's room and young Delia's beauty makeover for one of the police detectives. Elle Cosimano writes some really priceless humor for Finlay's kids; I'd be happy to see more focus on them. Some of the antics with the other cops at the training center, like Nick's partner Joey and rookie Tyrese, were also good fun. And I liked how she brought Finlay's nosy neighbor Mrs. Haggerty into the action even though the story was not based in their neighborhood.

I am now invested in these central characters, including Finlay's kids and her romance with Nick the cop, Vero's on the lam situation and poor Javi, who it seems can never do anything right in Vero's eyes.

Thanks to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

I came across this book after reading its sequel, and even though I tackled the series out of order, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment. The humor in the writing pulled me in right away. I’m not usually one for stepping out of my comfort zone when it comes to genres, but this book managed to make me feel at home with its wit and clever storytelling.

The characters are what really shine for me. Each one felt unique and added to the story’s charm. Their interactions made me laugh out loud more times than I can count. Even in moments where the plot slowed, the humor kept me engaged and wanting to read more. It’s rare for a book to balance humor and heart so well, but this one nailed it.

As someone who came to the series after already knowing how things would end up because of the sequel, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I still enjoyed the journey. The writing has a way of drawing you in, and even if you know the outcome, the process of getting there feels fresh and exciting. This book proved to me that even stepping outside my usual reading preferences can lead to a great time.

I was so happy that this book was just as fun as the first two books. Poor Fin and Vero are headed to a police academy for bored housewives (thankfully just for a week), and of course they run into trouble related to everything that came before this book. We see all the normal cast of characters including Steven, the kids, Cam, Joey…really, just about all of them. LOL! I was happy that we had a change of scenery to keep this series feeling fresh and “new,” but we still are entertained by the trademark fun, twisty plot, and all these random strings the author presents throughout the book that come together in a lovely literary bow.

One other item I must mention is how the author still has Fin’s struggle as a single, soon to be divorced parent. There’s nothing hidden, and she doesn’t just conveniently forget her children to go on these escapades. Not only that, we see the “ugly” side of parenting in a humorous but not vulgar way especially with the opening scene in this installment. It’s so very realistic and funny. All of us moms have been there.
My feelings haven’t changed about this series, but I’m wondering where we’re going to be going after a while. Poor Fin just gets in deeper and deeper, and we see just how deep she’s getting at the end of this, which I must say is a little bit of a shocker. Add in everything I’ve mentioned above, and this is a series that I hope continues for so many books, but at some point, I’m hoping that poor Fin breaks free of this convoluted relationship she’s in with Felicks but not remove those twisty mulit-book story arcs.

I quite enjoyed this latest, and those who are fans of this series will too. Highly recommend.

I absolutely love the Finlay Donovan series. This book reads like a comedy caper and I always picture a girly Ocean’s Eleven type cast. These would make for super fun movies. I enjoy the Hijinks and the fierce friendships that develop between the women. Love this addition to the series.

This book in the Janet Evanovich-inspired Finlay Donovan series is stronger on suspense and twists than previous entries.
Still has that trademark humor: "
“My sigh smelled like cheddar-flavored crackers and resignation.”

This series is a little too fluffy to be fun for me, but I give it 5 stars for being exactly what a certain type of audience wants. It does a good job of being silly and accessible without going down the path of talking down to its audience.

Single mom and bloodstain expert Finlay Donovan finds herself in a dangerous situation when she accidentally destroys a luxury car belonging to the Russian mob. To repay her debt, she is tasked with finding a contract killer before the police do. With help from her partner-in-crime Vero and hot cop Nick, Finlay navigates firearm training and forensic classes to uncover the killer and free themselves from the mob's grasp. Along the way, they face challenges from spies, Veros's past, and the responsibilities of parenthood.

In this captivating book, our dynamic duo Finlay and Vero embark on thrilling adventures at a police school to uncover the mystery of a hired killer. I assure you that you will not be disappointed by these books. I was so engrossed that I managed to devour two series in a single day - that's how addictive these reads are! You will find yourself irresistibly drawn into the hilarious escapades of this duo as they navigate through truly wild adventures.

The story unfolds effortlessly, with Finlay's ex-husband being targeted by an unknown assailant, while her cop boyfriend remains oblivious to the antics of Finlay and Vero. Their mischievous ways make them true masters of their craft! I highly recommend these series as the perfect remedy after a long week. They offer a chance to unwind, relax, and immerse yourself in a world filled with laughter and excitement. You won't be able to resist following their adventures as the body count rises!

Thank you, St. Martin's Press | Minotaur Books for the digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

BOOK REPORT
I’m gonna cheat just a little here with my Book Reports on the Finlay Donovan series by Ellie Cosimano, which I received complimentary copies of from St. Martin's Press | Minotaur Books/NetGalley.

Instead of providing a title and description for—as well as a reaction to—each book, I’m doing one review for all and putting a summary of the series here first: ”Edgar-Award nominee Elle Cosimano’s witty, fast-paced adult mystery series follows struggling suspense novelist and single mom turned-amateur-sleuth Finlay Donovan, whose fiction begins to tread dangerously close to the truth.”

The reason for this approach is because I took advantage of the opportunity to download all of the books in the series to date all at once, including the newest one scheduled for publication in March 2025 (Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave), which was the reason NetGalley made everything available—to promote the latest. And then I basically binged my way through it, partly while doing things like folding clothes and watching TV at the same time.

This was a fun little series, as I expected it to be. Nothing very challenging, some predictability, some romance, some silliness. I got a little aggravated that Our Finlay never seems to learn from her mistakes. And the agent character gets to be more and more like a caricature as the series progresses. My favorite installment was the novella about nanny/accountant Veronia Ruiz; it was written a lot tighter and was more believable. Looks like the next book to be written will flesh out her back story even more, so I’m looking forward to reading it.

In short: This is the kind of series you will like, if you like this kind of series.

PS
I realized yesterday during a discussion with some friends at lunch that I’ve been ingesting an awfully not of non-serious fiction here lately. I decided that, you know what? That’s perfectly OK, given not only the state of the world in general right now, but also because at least seven people I know have died this year (two by intentionally self-inflicted gunshot wounds). I’ve been seeking both escape and comfort, and I very much appreciate all the authors who have brought me both.

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano
What a daily adventure for Finlay, dodging bullets and dirty diapers!
Finlay is in a mess again, she has a deadline looming for her latest book and a mobster out to level a debt. The Russian mob paid a debt for her and Vero and she owes them now. They want a situation cleaned up, the problem is, that “situation “ may be a cop.
Finlay and Vero dive in to fix things and Nick, her “hero” cop provides the perfect cover. As she gets close to finding answers, things get crazy with crooked cops, the Russian mobster, and an obsessed ex-husband.
I really enjoyed this one. The antics of Vero and Finlay are funny and entertaining! I can’t believe Finlay can keep up with men that drive her crazy coming at her from so many different directions. There were some laugh out loud moments that I absolutely loved. I can’t wait to read the next one! 4/5⭐️
I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to review this series.

While I did not think "Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun" was as entertaining as the first two books in the series, it was still an enjoyable read. Despite the subject matter - murder, theft, arson, etc. - this book is lighthearted and an easy read. Finn and Vero are back to their Lucy and Ethel-like hijinks, with predictable outlandish results. We get more reasons to like Hot Detective Nick and more reasons not to like Finn's ex-husband Steven. For me, the citizens' police academy storyline fell a bit flat, and pushed the book from entertaining but unbelievable to nonsensical in some ways. That said, I still liked spending more time in Finn's nutty world.

3 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary copy of this book. These opinions are my own.
