Finlay Donovan does it again! Usually for me, series seem to lose steam around the third book, for whatever reason, the story becomes redundant, but Finlay is here to stay, keeping me entertained, gobbling up this unique story in an already fun filled series, in a matter of hours.
I enjoyed the setting of a citizen’s police academy, weaving the ins and outs of police procedural and trainings
In true Finlay fashion, the story had tons of surprise gotcha moments that I didn’t see coming.
Again, the only negative that I have is Vero. She is a bad friend, doesn’t bring much to the story despite her complicated past and she just takes, takes, takes. I know that she’s a main character and isn’t going anywhere, but I could do with less of her! But overall, a fun, quick, witty story and I already can’t wait for the next!
“Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun” written by Elle Cosimano is the third book in the series. I love the banter and friendship that Finlay and Vero have. The situations these two women find themselves in always has me laughing! The character development is wonderful and I love the suspense aspect. Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for an ARC of this book!
I have really enjoyed this series, it has been fun and entertaining. And while I still enjoyed book 3, it was my least favorite so far. I feel like the storyline is becoming more and more outrageous and didn’t love that this one ended on a cliffhanger.
I will pick up book 4 when it comes out and hope that the next book wraps things up and ends the series.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
Rounding up from 4.5 stars since I can't do half stars.
I absolutely loved this third installment to the Finlay Donovan series. While this book (and the entire series) requires you to suspend some belief in reality for a little bit, it's such a fun story that I don't even care that there is absolutely no way Finlay and Vero would be able to get away with everything they get away with.
This story had me laughing out loud at some parts and on the edge of my seat at others. From the opening scene, I was enthralled by the story. I just wanted to keep reading.
One of my favorite things about this book (and series) is that the author does a great job of having the storyline and characters share the spotlight. I love the relationship between Finlay and Vero (and the side characters). The author makes this a big point of the book, but it doesn't really take away any focus from the plot.
Now, I said earlier about suspending belief in reality. This plays into the one thing that I don't like about this book. I really feel like Nick (or Georgia, for that matter) would have figured out something about what's going on with Finlay at this point. He's shown to be a competent detective, but somehow just can't make any connections where Finlay is concerned. This does bother me some, but not enough to negate my enjoyment of this book.
Overall, I think I liked this one more than the second book but just a touch less than the first book. If you enjoyed the other Finlay Donovan books, you'll definitely want to pick this one up.
Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur Books for this eARC to review.
This third installment began with a scene that read like a hostage negotiation...Finlay is calmly talking to someone who is frantically asking, "I'm not going to go to prison for this, am I," with Finlay calmly reassuring the unknown person that no, he will not. After a few tense pages, it becomes clear what's happening. Finlay is in a public family restroom with her young son Zach, who has crawled under the stalls into the neighboring one, where a terrified man is sitting with his pants around his ankles, scared he's going to be accused of pedophilia. And with that relatable and side-splitting scene, we were off!
Finlay still hasn't made much progress on her book, and her editor wants a complete re-write with "hot cop" taking center stage. But Finlay has bigger problems. She's in debt to the Russian mob, and mob boss Feliks has tasked her with finding out the identity of contract killer "Easy Clean". Problem is, the killer might be a police officer.
Luckily, hot cop Nick has started up a citizen's police academy, and Finlay's live-in nanny and partner in crime Vero signs them up. This gives the duo the perfect cover-up to find the real criminal and hide from the mob. The expected hilarious antics ensue, and the side plots were just as entertaining--Finlay's annoying ex Steven is making a desperate attempt to reconnect, and Vero has someone lusting after her too, and there's history there! I need more!
This is such a fun series, and I can't wait for the next installment! Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur books for an early copy. This title will publish Janaury 31, 2023.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for an advanced electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
After she was assumed to be a hit woman and the domino effect of crimes that followed, all Finlay wants is to stay out of jail and finish her novel, but who knows if that's in the cards. Everyone wants her to give the hot cop a chance (both in her book and in her real life parallel), but the possibility of being arrested is all too real. They know there's a dirty cop to track down, and they need to do it before someone discovers them first...
Finlay Donovan books are constant hijinks. I go back and forth between rooting for Finlay and shaking my head at her choices. I wanted to like this one, but by the end, I was basically shouting FINLAY WHY?! The stories are interesting so I will likely read more that come out, but I probably won't be in any rush to do so.
CW: death, violence
Elle Cosimano delivers laughs, steam, and intrigue in the third installment of the Finlay Donovan series - Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun. This cast of characters is equal parts lovable and questionable. I think having listened to the audiobooks of the first two Finlay adventures really added to the way I read this e-book. I can hear Vero so confidently in my head and I love it! Superb and very much looking forward to Book 4!!
Such a unique setting for this 3rd installment of Finlay Donovan! I just love how her and Vero seem to get themselves into pickles. I still don’t trust her ex husband Steven. I did feel like this one just kind of ended. But very entertaining and couldn’t wait to see what we found out in this book.
First of all, I absolutely love this series! I would describe it as rom-com meats murder mystery. The banter in this book is hilarious I actually laughed out loud a few times. I really enjoyed the plot of this book. It was fun to see how they went through police academy tasks as they were trying to get closer to cops to find out who the infamous easyclean is.
I really enjoy the characters in this series. They are very relatable and hilarious. Can't wait to find out what happens in book 4!! The ending really left me wanting more! I'm excited that there will be a next book in this series as I think this is becoming one of my favourite series.
If you love rom-coms and want to slowly get into murder mysteries this is the perfect book for you!
If you love:
- Funny characters
-Mystery
-Banter
-A little bit of spice
You will love this book!!
Another great book from this author. This series is hilarious and action packed making it seem like its a great comedy action movie.
Oh, Finlay and Vero. I thought they got themselves into enough trouble in the first 2 books in this series, but this one takes the cake so far.
Ok, I loved the first book in this series, and enjoyed the 2nd one. But this one, I thought was just ok. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, but not as much as the others. I did find myself laughing and chuckling at the banter back and forth between Finlay & Vero and the situations they found themselves in. Vero still definitely takes the cake for ride or die chicks. But the setting and other characters just didn’t do it for me and there was almost too much going on at times. I’m also all for a “will they won’t they” when it comes to love interests, but not when it drags on for the whole book. There were parts of this one I enjoyed, but definitely not my favorite. 3.5 ⭐️
A huge thank you to Netgalley, Minotaur Books, and Elle Cosimano for this e-arc. Check out Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun on its pub date 1/31/23!
This book is similar to the other books in the series. Madcap hijinks with a side of adventure and romance. It's nothing particularly serious or meaty. It's the type of book that I like to refer to as "mental junk-food". No thought required, nothing I ever feel particularly drawn into, but a good break when I need to escape into some nonsense.
I'd like to thank Netgalley for an ARC, opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this earc
This book was absolutely hilarious. I feel like the more I read about Finlay and her adrentures, the more I love her
She’s an absolute mess but that’s exactly what makes her so relatable. Well not people always dying around her but the awkwardness. I love how she is always trying to do her best and almost always goes wrong. Even with everything happening in her life, I mean she is involuntarily working for a mob boss, she is still trying to help so many people in her life, including Vero.
And then there is Nick, *heart eyes*, who Fin is trying to stay away from for his own good. I am soooo happy we finally saw them together in this one. Their slow burn was killing me. I just really need them to sit down and talk about everything, which obviously won’t happen with that ending. I have mention the shower scene, because Nick with baby Zach on his bare chest, *heart eyes*.
Regarding the mystery, I knew Charlie was a bad guy pretty early on, I just wasn’t sure how he was involved. But I did not see Stu coming as a bad guy at all and I love that. I kept guessing all the way till the end.
Overall, this series is awesome and I need more books.
A silly book. Reminds me of I Love Lucy when she got in and out of trouble and how funny it was. However the trouble here is murder and mayhem. Light easy reading if you want comedy
I want nothing more than to read this immediately! I need NetGalley to come through, I can’t wait until January for this book!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced reading copy of Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano. This is the most excited I’ve ever been for an advanced readers copy of a book ever!
The first novel Finlay Donovan is killing it follows the main character Finlay. Finlay finds her life slowly spiraling when she is left to juggle parenting two young children, keeping up with a busy house, paying bills, and working her author job. All after the news that her husbands affair with their real estate agent is turning into his second marriage. Finlay’s life becomes even more chaotic when her next book pitch is overheard and misunderstood by another customer in the coffee shop. From there Finlay is joined with her nanny/accountant, Vero, on a high stakes rollercoaster ride.
If you haven’t already this is a book series you have to pick up! If you’ve read the first two books in the series and loved them and are hesitant (like I was) to pick this book up in fear of it being a let down. Do not let that stop you! I wish I would have read this sooner and closer together with the previous two books. These are easily my favourite books of the year! Maybe even all time! I want more Finlay and Vero antics. I just hope all future instalments are as good as these three and that Elle Cosimano doesn’t miss the mark with future books (no pun intended).
Forever a Finlay (& Vero) fan. FINLAY DONOVAN JUMPS THE GUN is an excellent addition to the series and I am still completely hooked. I can't flip the pages fast enough! This is exactly why I read - I love to escape into these over-the-top, nearly-caught, entertaining storylines. This book was nail biting and laugh out loud.
Finlay and Vero's relationship is fun, hilarious, real, messy - it's a lot of fun to explore and learn more about in this book. Also, hot cop Nick, and a love interest for Vero, made this very entertaining. One of my favourite things in JUMPS THE GUN is the new location of the Police Academy. I thought it made it interesting for the story because all of the characters were right there. Highly recommend and hoping for a book four!!
I am so grateful to have been able to read this in advance! Thank you Elle Cosimano and St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books, for the digital copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
These books are a riot. So over-the-top fun and silly. This series continues to be one of my new favorites. A complete wacky action adventure mystery featuring Ms. Finlay and crew contending with loan-sharks, gangsters, crooked cops, and corrupt lawyers while still trying to get an update on her love life. I'm so impressed with how Cosimano makes all of the crazy into a terrific light-hearted mystery. Here's hoping for many more stories in this series!
I am a huge fan of the Finlay Donovan series, so I was delighted to get an advance copy of the latest installment. I have to admit that it took me a second to remember the events of the previous novel, as this is a direct continuation of that story and not just a separate adventure using the same characters (a la the Stephanie Plum books). But once I jogged my memory, I was off on yet another quirky, hilarious trip with Finlay and her friends. A great next chapter in this delightful book series.
Thank you @minotaur_books for the e-arc of one of my most anticipated releases!
Here’s what I loved:
• the new setting
• more of the same lovely cast and
new friends!
• the stakes are getting higher
• more swoony romance
• twists and turns
I love this series! Finlay is such a fantastic character and she pulls you into her world. How can so many unfortunate (but somewhat hilarious) things happen to one person? I’m here for the ride and I can’t wait for the next book and scared of how it will end.

This is one of my favorite Finlay Donovan books yet - I swear this series gets better with every installment! I've gotta say... Steven is on my last nerve though. The friendships, chaos, and absurdity will continue to keep me coming back for more!
