This is a fun, funny light read. Join Finlay and Vero as they are forced to do a job for the Russian mob, finding a mysterious killer who targeted her ex husband and as they try to escape a loan shark.. This is book 3 of the series, but it is pretty easy to jump in with this one. Just suspend belief and enjoy the adventure and romance
Finlay and Vero are back at it for another round of chaos and calamity. I loved Finaly Donovan is Killing It (book 1) and thought Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘em Dead (book 2) was a lot of fun. I didn’t necessarily need a third book, but Finlay’s hijinks are always so entertaining that I was thrilled to get my hands on an eARC.
As much as I love Finlay and Vero, book 3 felt a smidge unnecessary. Most of the story takes place at a citizen’s police academy (basically sleepaway camp for adults to learn about cop stuff) which was kind of odd. Things start to go off the rails and there’s really only so much madness these women can get away with. I don’t mind suspending disbelief – I read fiction to avoid real life, thank you very much – but this was a bit too over the top and not as hilarious as the rest of the series. Also, I think I found FDJTG less enjoyable because there were a lot of (necessary) details that had to be recapped from the earlier books.
If you love this delightful duo and you’re in the mood for a light and funny murder mystery, definitely pick this up. If you found book 2 slightly underwhelming and too unrealistic, maybe don’t rush to read book 3. Based on the ending, it does look the series will continue into a 4th book.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book; all opinions are my own. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martins Press for allowing me to be an early reader.
This is the 3rd book in the Finlay Donovan series. The first one was fun and it kept me turning the pages. The protagonist was someone I could cheer for. The 2nd book was average and this one… the third one—well I struggled to keep turning the pages. Reading this book felt like a chore instead of a joy. The characters are getting less likable and it’s hard to even root for Finlay. I don’t think I will read on in this series if it continues.
I just love this series! The relationship between Finlay and Vero is the absolute best. This third installment of the series does not disappoint. The tone and feel of the series has been consistent throughout, and I love learning more about each character and how they think. There is also so much more to learn about them, as the secrets continue to expose themselves. I haven't enjoyed a series so much in years. I highly recommend this series to everyone who enjoys a well rounded mystery with some thrilling moments, a little romance and even some humor. I want to see this series as a television series! I hope it happens!
This was the 3rd installment in the Finlay Donovan series. These books are just a fun and crazy ride. This book was my least favorite of the three but I still enjoyed it. It somehow managed to be extremely chaotic yet still feel like filler. I'm excited for a 4th book in this series! 3.5 stars
4 wild antic stars
This is the third book in the series and best read in order for the full escapist experience. These books border on over-the-top entertainment, but I love them and eagerly read the newest saga and hijinks of Finlay and her sidekick/nanny/accountant Vero.
Finlay is a writer, and her life seems to mimic her books – or vice versa. She’s got two adorable children and trouble seems to follow them all, how fast can a toddler get away from you? She’s on a book deadline and a report back to a mob boss deadline. Said mobster is Feliks and even though he’s behind bars, he demands that Finlay identify a killer for hire.
Finlay’s ex-husband has agreed to take the kids for a week so that Finlay and Vero can go to a police camp for average citizens to try to uncover the contract killer. It helps that the camp is run by hot cop Nick. There are some hilarious escapades as both Finlay and Vero have secrets and people after them. I wondered if Finlay and Nick would finally confess their feelings in this book (and act on them) and if Finlay could settle her debt with the mob.
There’s a cliffhanger ending and I’m already anxiously awaiting the next installment, write faster Elle Cosimano.
If you enjoyed the first two books in this series, then I think you'll also love this one! It has the same dramatic, over-the-top hijinks that Finlay and Vero keep finding themselves in, with that lighthearted humor. This book managed to surprise me by the end though, so it also has a good self-contained mystery! But the story is never done and I kinda love that these books will just keep coming.
As with the previous book, we get some answers here but a whole lotta new questions also come up. This one is more plot-focused; I think Finlay got a little development (I will say, I'm glad the love triangle is done now) and growth, but I also wish we got more from Vero! I enjoyed her scenes with Javi, but she's still a tough character to figure out. I want more of her back story and her motivations!
If you read this book for what it is, it's an easy break from reality that keeps you laughing and guessing and rooting for Finlay despite all the messes she gets herself into. As long as Elle Cosimano keeps writing these books, you can count on me reading them. :)
I really enjoyed this series so far, and was eager to read the third installment. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two. The story never really wraps up at the end, which bothers me. I would have preferred the story to fully wrap up, and for someone new to happen in the next book as it tends to drag on and on. There definitely were the usual funny moments and I really do love the characters which is why I still gave it 3 stars but the storyline fell flat for me. It was extremely unrealistic and the whole police academy just seemed a little hokey. That being said....I will still read the next book when it comes out, since I still want to know what is going to happen.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is the third installment in the Finlay Donovan series, and it didn't disappoint. Full of drama, laughs, and some romance, this series always leaves me wanting more and I can't wait to see what's next for Finlay and Vero!
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano
Did I know this was the third book in a series? Yes. Did I read it anyway without reading the first two? Also yes! This was such a great mix of humor, drama, and romance. I really enjoyed this book, and immediately added the previous two in the series to my kindle. Definitely recommend.
Many thanks to Elle Cosimano, NetGalley, St Martin’s Press, and Minotaur Books for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was another fantastic installment in the Finlay series! I loved the added characters and all of the twists! Already looking forward to her next book!
I'm obsessed with Finlay, Vero, and this series. This whole series has been perfectly written. Such a great mix of humor, drama, and romance. Can't wait for the next one! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC
The third installment of Finlay’s journey is still full of laughs, chaos, and mystery. Everything about Vero and Finlay’s journey is ridiculous, and I love it. The amateur sleuths are back trying to solve another case they have absolutely no business being involved in- young moms and nannies just do not pair well with the Russian IMO. This time though they have some new allies- and enemies. I loved the we got more Nick in this novel (ahem, hot cop), and while I personally am not sold on the idea of attending a week adult long police academy, I did like all the new characters it brought to the story. This book, like the others, had a number of twists that kept me guessing, and even though I was able to predict parts of the ending, I was still entertained the entire way through. Also like the first two, this book ends with a cliffhanger, setting us up for the next story in the series! I’m already counting down the days until we know more about Finlay and Vero’s next adventure!
Romantic Suspense novelist Finlay Donovan has recently made three resolution-She has sworn off men, junk food, and hauling “bodies” in her mini van.
But, apparently, holding men hostage in bathroom stalls didn’t make the list, as the book opens in this “compromising” position.
Yes, Finlay and Vero, her nanny/partner in crime are back with their extremely OVER THE TOP antics, and we pick up right where we left off in book #2.
I think it’s important to read this series in order, for maximum enjoyment, as the book’s synopsis (and the book) give away *SPOILERS* if you haven’t read the earlier installments.
So, to avoid that, let’s just say that this book is about DEADLINES!
Finlay has a deadline to submit edits to Sylvia, who claims that her latest manuscript-WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT be based on Finlay’s own life, is “fifty shades of boring”. She wants more “spice” and less “Thelma and Louise”.
She and Vero also have a deadline from Russian Mob boss, Feliks, to identify who “EasyClean” is…if they hope to erase the debt owed to him.
The problem is-they think that the contract killer who goes by that name-could be a cop…
So, the pair enroll in the “Citizen’s Police Academy” hosted by academy coordinator, Detective Nicolas Anthony.
(YES! The hot-cop is back!) Not only does this seem like the safest place to hide out-until they find the answer they need, but it also gives them an opportunity to do some undercover investigating of their own.
They never imagined that their elderly neighbor, “Mrs. Haggerty” (a fun new character) could be the greatest obstacle to their success!
Although we do get some resolution, the book ends with a big cliffhanger-and we will have to wait for book four to see how the latest SITUATION plays out!
Finlay Donovan Jumps The Gun is scheduled to publish on January 31, 2023.
Thank You to Minotaur Books for the gifted copy provided through NetGalley! It was a pleasure to offer a candid review!
And it looks like we have yet another winner for the Finlay Donovan series! This one was so much fun. It had a laugh out loud, enjoyable first half and an unputdownable second half.
Also, I am so, so, SO excited that the series isn't ending. I was worried that it was going to be a trilogy but it looks like we are going to be getting more Finlay and Vero!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finlay Donovan & friend/nanny/partner in crime, Vero, are both in debt to the wrong people. Finlay is indebted to the Russian Mob, while Vero's past is a whole other mess. If Finlay doesn't find a contract killer that was blackmailing a mob boss before the cops find him, then said mob boss -Feliks- will end her life. Unfortunately the contract killer may be a dirty cop. Finlay and Vero must find a way to solve the mystery of the killers identity while juggling children, writing deadlines, spies, and relationships, before it's too late.
Usually there are few things I dislike more than cliffhangers - but I'm going to ignore the one in this book because I love the series so much. Plus the opening scene wholly makes up for it. It had me on the floor. So funny!
This book is filled with the absurd and totally unbelievable antics we are used to, set in a police academy for a week of civilian training. As far fetched as this sounds I actually found it to be a very clever idea that made for a lot of LOL moments.
We learn a lot more about Vero in this latest installment and also meet some new, fun, and shady characters along the way.
While some thing's do get wrapped up here (and some I never saw coming) we are left with a slew of brand new questions. I can't wait for the next book.
*Thank you to Minotaur Books and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
This book series is probably one of the most fun book series I’ve read! The third one develops the relationship between Finlay and the man who she really wants to be with. Finally and Vero are hiding from Felix in this book. He wants Easy Clean and he is after them because they haven’t produced him. But who is East Clean? That’s what they need to find out before they end up eliminated. I am so excited because it’s definitely set up for another book!
Wow okay I loved this one. It felt a lot more like a mystery book than the others and I really enjoyed that. Most of this one is based at a police training camp for civilians and honestly it’s amazing. All our favourite characters are back and even some great new ones get introduced. Not to worry though Finlay and Vero still do plenty of stupid and hilarious things in this one. I love everything about this book, the characters, the plot, chef’s kiss. Truly a masterpiece!! I cannot recommend this series enough, if you haven’t read them yet please do! I cannot wait for the next book!
This was such a fun read! Enjoyed it more than the second one even and was rooting for the characters to figure out the mess they are in. Can’t wait to see where Finlay is off to next!
I absolutely adored this book! Finlay Donavan is back at it again and the author did a great job with another cozy mystery complete with all the characters we've fallen in love with- Finlay, Nick and Vero! Characters are well-developed and of course Finlay and her escapades. My only hesitation is how far-fetched plot continues to become, not even remotely realistic at this point, but makes for an interesting read!
