I absolutely love this series! It’s fun and smart- each installment just gets better! Our patrons go wild when a new one comes out.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun did not disappoint! After two exciting and original installments of writer Finlay Donovan turned involuntary assassin, it seemed impossible to top Finlay Donovan Is Killing It and Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead, but that is exactly what Elle Cosimano has done. It could have been the low body count or the witty banter between Finlay and Detective Nick Anthony (aka The Hot Cop) that made the novel so entertaining, not to mention the quick, laugh-out-loud quips from Vero, the beloved nanny turned accountant. Just when you think you know what to expect, the story takes delightfully strange detours and makes us wonder how Finlay will manage to escape death and arrest, simultaneously. If you enjoy fun, fast-paced mysteries with kick-ass heroines who are not afraid to handle dead bodies and change diapers, you will love this series.
Elle Cosimano has done it again with Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun! Funny, quick read to enjoy by all.
(Thank you, Netgalley, for the advance copy).
Vero and Finlay are back! And this time, their circumstances have landed them right in the middle of citizen's police academy. While Vero is trying to get Atlantic City crime bosses off her tail, Finlay has the head of the Russian mob to worry about, not to mention her smoldering flame with hot-cop Nick.
While the setting of this Finlay book was a little too over the top and too drawn out (I was ready to end my stay at the police academy after a day or two. I can't believe the actual citizen police academies can last up to 10 weeks!) This was still another fun, humorous, twisty-turny installment in the series. Obviously there's gonna be a book four, and obviously I'm gonna read it!
Can’t wait for book 4! This was a little slow at first and I wonder if it’s because there is another book to give us the rest of the answers. There were some things revealed at the end but a lot of the book didn’t have the plot moving much. I still enjoyed being with these characters and their dialogue .
Okay, this is my favorite Finlay Donovan yet! Thank you so much to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Minotaur Books for an advanced copy.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun picks up right where the second book ends. Finlay and Vero are trying to hunt down Easy Clean and, convinced that he/she must be a cop, sign up for a week-long citizens police academy where they can snoop around and investigate the potential suspects. All the major characters are back, with a few new ones (who I loved) too. It has everything you could ask for: humor, action, suspense, friendship, romance, and obviously a cliff-hanger ending. I'm just sad I have to wait so long for the next one! 😩
Dear Elle Cosimano,
Please continue to create Finlay and Vero's crazy story for years to come because this book solidified this fun series for me!
I loved taking all the characters from the first two books (Finlay Donovan is Killing It & Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead) and placing them in an entirely new scenario with the police academy. This felt like such a breath of fresh air and made the story even more exciting. This series would be a perfect one to series binge because we always pick up the story where we left off before, which is great for readers recently engulfed within the previous book... but somewhat harder for those who have a longer break in between the books. But the author does a good job of reminding us of previously introduced characters and plot lines if we forget.
Book three of the Finlay Donovan series could very well be my favorite so far. The hijinks and mayhem felt less over the top and the stakes could never be higher. The slow burn was achieved and many questions were answered... while unlocking new exciting ones. I cannot wait to see where book four takes us! And can we please see Finlay and her friends come to life already in the planned tv adaptation?! There were plenty of scenes in this book that would play out so well on screen!
Thank you to Netgalley and Minotaur Books for a sneak peek into the next installment of Finlay Donovan!
Random thoughts...
Well... now I need to wait for book 4! How long is this series because I NEED to know why Easy Clean went after Steven - what is his deal?
I think I trust Vera? But she definitely has secrets!
I am digging the romance with the cop in this. Yes, please give me more just like her publisher needed more love in her books!
Overall this was enjoyable, you do find out who Easy Clean is although I felt like I was left with more answers that I wish would have been answered in this one. The first half was a bit slow with not much happening but the second half was great!
Just when you though Finlay couldn’t get herself into any more trouble, Vero and Finlay head to the FCPD Citizen’s Police Academy for a week of writer’s research. Finlay Donavan Jumps the Gun starts off a little slow but picks up the pace as soon as they load the bus for the academy.
Thank You to St. Martin's Press, NetGalley, and Elle Cosimano for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.
Finlay Donovan does it again! The writing was amazing and I really loved book 3! It tied up a lot of loose ends from the other two books and was funny as anything! Three cheers to Elllie on her amazing characters in the Finley Donovan series!
Finlay is in trouble again with the Russian Mob and trying to keep their lives safe and juggling too many tasks and too many secrets that have to stay hidden. The 3rd book in the Finlay Donovan series keeps the suspense and the hilarity going as she and Vero (the accountant/nanny) head to a Citizen's Police Academy to try to learn the identity of EasyClean for the mob. With loan sharks circling, the kids' dad MIA, and not knowing which cops to trust, the week at the Academy is enlightening and also deeply dark. Find out if Finlay and Vero (with the help of cop "friend" or more than friend) Nick can keep their heads and wits about them.
Finlay Donovan is back and just as good as ever! This was SO much fun. It picked up right where the second left off, answering many of the questions that book 2 posed (while asking many more, haha). We got lots of good character development in this one, as it was a fun “closed door” style.
Here are some of the things I loved about this one:
👯♀️ Finlay + Vero time: we learned a lot more about Vero and saw their relationship grow.
🔥 Hot cop: Nick is around a lot on this book and their chemistry is 👏👏.
🏃♀️ Action: this book is action packed from page one! I tore through it and found the answer of the core mystery very satisfying (and I did not even remotely guess it, which is always fun).
📚 Book 4?! Based on the ending of this one, it seems like there will be!
I maintain that this series has strong Dead to Me vibes and I really want it to be a TV show. I especially need a “previously on” recap before each starts. 😂
Absolutely loving the Finlay Donovan series! Just when I think it can't get any better, it does!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
A big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing a copy of Finlay’s latest adventures to read and review.
Is the mess that Finlay is in a little outrageous and silly? Yes. Is this book a super fun read? Absolutely.
A delightful installment in Finlay’s saga and I can’t wait for the next.
5 ⭐️ 1.5 🌶
THIS SERIES IS MY FAV LIKE MY FAV FAV!!! thank you @netgalley for the ARC!!! This book was my second fav from the series and you guys aren’t ready for this adventure in this one!!! WHO IS EASYCLEAN!?! i t)8’k that’s what y’all have been waiting for 😳 THE PLOT TWIST KEEPS COMING THRUUUU and so manyyyy surprises! I WAS NOT READY FOR THOSE TWIST AND SURPRISES!
Q: team cop or team attorney?
I devoured this one in less than 24 hours. Whoops. 😬
I quite literally gasped in delight and did a little happy dance when I saw I was approved for an ARC from NetGalley and Minotaur Books for this new installment in the Finlay Donovan series! If you loved the first 2, you’ll love this one. But make sure you read them first - not a lot of catching you up.
Finlay and Vero are back in the third installment of this series. The story picks up where we left off, with Finlay afraid that her love interest/cop Nick suspects her in a series of crimes. Not only that, but Finlay and Vero are determined to find out the identity of EasyClean, the hit man for hire. They decide to go to a citizen’s camp held by police (and led by Nick) in order to research Finlay’s book and sniff out the dirty cop who they think might be EasyClean. As always, nothing goes according to plan when Finlay and Vero are involved.
I loved this book as much as the first, which is saying a lot! It was laugh out loud funny and moved the plot along further than the second book did. I adore Nick, and his character development and involvement in this book was perfect. Vero is hysterical, and some of the descriptions of her antics had me laughing out loud while I rushed to turn pages and find out what would happen next. I don’t know how she does it, but Elle Cosimano manages to write a page turner of a mystery, a hilarious comedy, and a romance all in one amazing book. I can’t get enough of Finlay, and based on the ending, I’m hopeful that there will be more coming in this series! If you enjoy hilarious banter between characters, slow burn romance, mysteries that leave you guessing, and a fun series to try, you’ve got to give Finlay a read!
Thank you so much to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press, Minotaur books, and Elle Cosimano for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
Elle Cosimano's Finlay Donovan books are great fun and this newest one is no exception. Her writing is a great combination of mystery, suspense and humor, with a little romance to boot. Highly recommended for Finlay fans or readers who love light and fun mysteries. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Finlay is back and she is bringing us another killer story we all have fallen in love with!
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano is one of my most highly anticipated reads of 2023.
A fast-paced, brilliant comedy-thriller. With some of the most well developed characters ever.
Donovan is one badass female lead! She's funny, sarcastic and so much fun to be around.
This book has such awesome characters. I just can't get enough of them. They are well defined and so realistic.
The plot will keep you guessing. Will have you thinking "what in the hell is going to happen next"?
Elle Cosimano's writing is clever, smart, imaginative and just so so much fun.
A clever, fun, highly entertaining story.
If you enjoy dark humor, chaos and messy situation's. You'll freaking love this series.
Any cozy mystery fan will go nuts over this one.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
St. Martin Press & Minotaur Books,
You are seriously the best! The absolute greatest.
I can't thank you enough!
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I will post my review to my blog, platforms, BookBub, B&N, Kobo and Waterstone closer to pub date.
I have enjoyed these Findlay books, but I start by cautioning possible readers that this doesn’t work as a stand alone novel. Even having read the 2 earlier adventures, I found it hard to recall all the details and come up to speed on the story of Findlay and her companion, Vero.
They are constantly in search of handling the ever-growing demands (threats) dealing with the need for enormous sums of money. This quest involves them with criminals, Russian mobsters and other nefarious characters. Suspending disbelief really isn’t enough to get into this book with dead bodies, crime bosses and betrayers.
Romance is injected, which is delightful and because Findlay is so likable, we hope it works out.
It does make for interesting reading, but less exciting and more predictable than the fresh start of the first Findlay novel.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
