All of Our Demise was absolutely brutal. The second in the All of Us Villains duology, this book was so well written that you find yourself rooting for morally gray characters to do despicable things to one another. For me, the second book certainly lived up to my high expectations. The story just kept getting better and better--the stakes were higher and as the tournament evolved, so too did the characters. I was so pleased with how somethings worked out and then completely gutted the next moment. The ending was well done and completed the duology nicely. I won't give anything away, but the way it was written was done so well, I could actually picture it in my mind's eye. Pair that with the brilliant narration and call me one happy reader.
*I received an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley, but my opinions are my own*
While this book did not quite live up to the expectation set by the first, I would still recommend finishing out the duology. The writing is superb and the characters are well plotted, but the second book took a turn for the sentimental. If you enjoyed the villain aspect of the first book, you will be let down a little with this one. For those that were looking to see the champions grow, change and evolve over the course of the tournament, you will be pleased. For those simply looking for escapism, who don't care about the individual characters' lives, you won't be as thrilled. Still, there is plenty to entertain you should you open it up. Overall, I still think it is solid, but whereas the first book was easily 5 stars, I would said this is a MAYBE 4 star book. 3.5?
For those looking to pick up the audiobook, I can say that the narrators were fantastic.
All of Our Demise did not live up to All of us Villians.
The story is good but the pacing is off. What took hours later seemed to magically take minutes. The beginning of the book takes its time with relics and landmarks and works with the characters. But the closer you get to the end of the story the faster everything happens even when it shouldn't.
This was a fabulous story and should have been broken into three books. I loved the characters and their multitude of relationships. I love the idea of breaking the curse of the tourney. So yes I loved it but it could have been better by slowing down and taking each step with the same seriousness as the beginning,
The narrators were amazing! They gave each character their own voice and always matched the tone of the scene. Bravo!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC!
The anticipated finale of the All of Us Villains duology is here. The tournament is breaking for the first time ever, and boundaries between the city and arena are gone. The remaining champions have a choice - dismantle the tournament piece by piece or fight to the death as the tournament was always intended. Between backstabbing, unexpected love connections, unfortunate deaths, broken hearts, and terrifying situations - All of Our Demise was a non-stop whirlwind.
This one took me a while to get through - not only because it was 14 hours long, but because it kind of dragged on in a lot of parts for me. I hate saying this because I was really looking forward to the ending of this story. It just didn't do it for me. The beginning was great - I loved the detailed descriptions - but as the story went on, I got a bit bored. I think this could have been more concise and about six hours shorter : / I did enjoy the narrators as they both did a fantastic job.
All of Our Demise is the sequel to All of Us Villains and it did not disappoint! It was high stakes, the characters were well fleshed out with some really great dynamics between the main group, and the story was a non-stop adventure with no dull moments.
Dare I say I enjoyed this even more than All of Us Villains. The minute I finished All of Our Demise, I immediately wanted to pick up All of Us Villains and relive the full story from start to end. Perhaps it was on me for not rereading All of Us Villains before diving into All of Our Demise (I was a tad excited) but I think this sequel really tied a beautiful bow to the whole story once I finished it.
Personally, I will take the next few weeks to sit on what I read and digest every moment I enjoyed but I will 100% be picking this series back up in a few months to relive the journey of all these morally-grey and interesting characters.
This sequel immediately jumped me back into The Tournament in Ilvernath, picking up where "All of Us Villains" left off. With a continuation to the story and the multiple points of view, a few storylines are moving towards each other as The Tournament breaks. I still continued to enjoy each champion in their own right and continuing to learn about the magic system. I found myself finding all the time to listen to the audio because I didn't want to leave the world and because I wanted to know how things would come together. The narrators were a perfect fit for this story! Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced audio copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own!
While this book was not quite as captivating as All of Us Villains, it was a good ending to this overall incredible duology. The exploration of topics such as generational trauma, family expectations, and the line between hero and villain are consistent themes throughout the book. The only thing I struggled with was what felt like two different plots. They did not mesh well, and the secondary plot did not add anything to the book.
Thank you MacMillan audiobook for the review copy of All of Our Demise. This and All of Us Villains are books outside of my usual reading genre but I love to change up my reads once in a while when I hear raves about a book; I enjoyed All of Us Villains and was waiting on this conclusion, which for me did not disappoint.
One, the narration was strong once again. At times I dislike multiple narrators but this book was stronger for the two distinct but important voices. I really think the production and narration are excellent.
Two, I thought the progression of the story worked well for me. I can sense that some fans of the first book will be let down, that happens with hype and popular books and is also a fair reaction to this... some will feel it is too long (it might be) or just not how they envisioned the continuation (fair, we all have our own world building at times) BUT for me this honored the progression of characters into next phases of identity and self understanding and awareness. That worked for me even as I thought perhaps the story was a bit long (or needed to be a trilogy). The movement into queer identity inclusion mattered too.
Three, I appreciated a change of pace read for me. That might be why this worked for me, I tend to read contemporary adult fiction and thrillers and contemporary romance but I have a soft spot for YA and YA books with world building, interesting and intense stories, and that offer YA fans ways to think about the meaning and challenges of growing up into (destiny, into true self... or away from past trauma). The focus on a curse/challenge and teens is notable because isn't adolescence/the movement to adulthood a challenge filled with wins and losses and seemingly unsurmountable challenges at times?
Surprisingly, I liked his one better than the first.
The narration and pacing of the story is good. I also enjoyed the queer rep that emerged in this sequel. I just think that it fell a bit short in terms of excitement and intrigue. The political schemes weren't fleshed out enough and often clashed with the action. Many of the reveals were rushed.
My favorite elements were facing the characters' family histories and their ability to finally make their own decisions. I also enjoyed the romances that emerged.
I didn't love it but I definitely didn't hate it. I do think it could've been a trilogy and it would've been more concise and exciting.
received this book as an audio version from NetGalley as an arc. Buckle up! Wow! This stunning duology really ended with a bang. I was not expecting this. The audio is phenomenal first of all. My favorite character from book one was Alistair, and the way that these characters developed in book two took my breath away. I am still shocked.
It was definitely lengthy, but I enjoyed every second of it. I wish the end had more elaboration for the conclusion so that we had more details as to where things landed for the world. I don't want to give spoilers though. The trials were amazing, and the way things played out with the tournament and all of the relics was so unexpected. I loved it! Highly recommend this Duology!
All of Us Villains left me wanting more. But in the best way, in a “oh my god that was a wild ride I need to know what happens next” kind of way. And wow did the sequel deliver! As I stated in my review of the first book, I left it marked as 'to read' because I wanted to read it again before I marked it read, I liked it so much. When I was approved for the arc of this book in audio format, I was ecstatic. I immediately re read the first book and transitioned smoothly into this one. It was an effortless transition and I highly recommend doing the same if you can!
Some books benefit from a bit of time to digest in between, and while I did have time between the first reading of the first book and the subsequent reading of both in series, I think this story is best served back to back. It was action packed and a bit of a rough ride at times, but I think that keeping track of all of the relics and locations and characters may be a bit much if you don't go straight from the first book to the second.
The narrators were wonderful. Sometimes I think they go overboard with having multiple cast members but in this books case, it was done perfectly. The choices for the voices were perfect and the actors carried out their parts wonderfully. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and while I usually think they do a good job, it is rare that there are multiple actors who all play their parts to a T. Well done!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing me with an advanced review copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I found myself wanting for more excitement and a more cohesive and interesting plot in this book, like the first one had. I don't necessarily think this book is bad, but I do think I and other people have certain expectations of what this book will be like based on the last book, and this book doesn't really follow through with that which was disappointing. I liked the narration, but I was overall a bit disappointed with the story and wish I had adjusted my expectations coming into the novel so I could enjoy it more.
I absolutely loved the first book In this series but struggled getting into this one. I think if I was reading the print version it may have been easier vs listening to the audio version. Not as interesting as the first book but still really good! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen early, great narration and great authors!
I liked it! Although I did find that I enjoyed book 1 more. The ending hit so much harder and j I loved the setting more.
A nice conclusion to "All of Us Villains".
The book kicks off right where it left off. Each character has to face their true motivations, family history and if they truely believe they can break the curse for good. When they struggle to keep faith that they will succeed many will consider what they will do to survive.
I did find the story a little long. It almost felt as if it was written as a trilogy then crammed into a duology. There is also so much back stabbing and switch side switching it began to feel repetitive and less shocking each time.
Overall it was good but I did not enjoy it as much a the first book.
Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an advanced audiobook for review.
I will start by saying that All of Us Villains was one of my favorite books. So this one was disappointing, perhaps my judgment is skewed based on how much I loved the first one. I read that book twice and even listened to the audio version, I liked it so much. I found the characters in this novel to still be delightful and witty. I thought the new love stories were more fitting and liked how they turned out. That said there were parts of the story that just seemed to drag. At one point it seemed a lot like the first with the battles and the relics. So the only reason I gave this book three stars is because it was a bit longer than it needed it to be, making it hard for me to finish. Once I got about 70 percent into the book though, it picked up again and was the story I knew and loved. Thanks Netgalley and MacMillian audio for the ARC.
While I really enjoyed the text of this novel, I wasn't sold on one of the narrators, so I look forward to reading the physical book upon release to solidify my feelings on the story itself.
This epic conclusion to All of Us Villains had me on the edge of my seat, biting my lip, and anxiously listening to hear how this story would end. The character growth and development of the plot in book two were probably one of my favourite parts of this entire series. While the plot was unique, I thought the character growth made this entire book so much better than I ever expected it to be. I typically stray away from two book series, this series was meant to be written in two books because the story was so beautifully crafted and portrayed, I think these characters needed a second book to conclude their stories and the choices they made. Allistar's character arc actually had me wondering if everything I was listening to was actually happening, because the choices and the way the plot went utterly shocked me, in the best way possible. Now saying this, I can for certain say that all of the characters in book two grew exponentially and actually grew into who I felt they were meant to be and what they were meant to do.
“In a different story, would we still have been enemies?”
“Does it matter?”
As a teen reader, this is a quote I probably would have skipped over, but reading this book as a young adult, this quote was EVERYTHING. It showed the readers how much self reflection all of the characters had throughout the book and it felt like it showcased how no matter how hard you tried to change your story, some stories are set in stone. No matter what the characters endings were, they were perfect for the character and I couldn't be happier with the way everything turned out for all the characters in this duology.
By far this may be one of the best books I have read in a really long time. Amanda and Christine did an absolute amazing job wrapping this story up. It'll be one of the books I continue to think about for weeks to come!

What a follow up to the first book. This was long, dark, and very compelling. The characters were just incredibly interesting and very complex. I really liked where the story continued and did not see things going the way they did. This is very atmospheric and really makes you feel like you are in a dark place. The narrator is really good and made so many parts feel very creepy. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy of one of my most anticipated read of the year!
This book was a great conclusion to a great duology, although I did prefer the first book in the series after that ending you just have to pick up the next one.
This book really delves into psychology of each of the characters. The first may have been about them being villains, the second book focuses instead on breaking their own preconceived notions of themselves and their family histoires.
I loved the multi point of views and how each character had to overcome their own demons to try to free themselves from the curse.
