Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade is the 8th book in the Enola Holmes series by Nancy Springer. It is fun to revisit this series as we see a few returning characters from the original 6 books in the series. Similar to the Black Barouche, we see Enola working more with her brother Sherlock. This is an excellent series that shows the importance of being yourself and the value of friends and family. It is witty and clever with strong themes of feminism despite being set in Victorian England. And excellent addition to the series and I hope we continue to have more of Enola in the future!

I had read the first few books in the series shelved with juvenile fiction in our library. Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade, #8 in the series, is decidedly more mature in content and I would suggest it for 14 and above. As Enola has aged within the series, she has continues to buck the conventional expectations for young ladies of the time.

The Elegant Escapade involves assisting a friend (who was the subject of previous books that I had not read). I had no difficulty following the story and found it enjoyable as a stand-alone mystery.
Enola's resourcefulness and ability to outwit not only her enemies but occasionally her brother, Sherlock makes her a protagonist of particular merit. As Enola seeks to liberate her friend imprisoned within her own home, readers will be rooting for her emancipation. Through many twists and turns throughout the city and in and out of various disguises, Enola proves herself to be the capable young woman her mother believed her to be.

Author Nancy Springer has created a spunky, determined heroine who boldly puts her own life on the line to come to a friend's aid. In the world of detection crowded with men, Enola offers a fresh take on the genre and provides a model of ingenuity and independence for young female readers. Hopefully, Springer will continue the adventures of Enola Holmes, with many more future mysteries to solve.

I reviewed the audiobook narrated by Tamaryn Payne who did a stellar job. I highly recommend the audiobook! With a second Netflix production of Enola Holmes in the works, the series' popularity cannot help but escalate.

Enola Holmes has taken a break from being a finder of persons and things but when she hears that Lady Cecily Alastair may be being held against her will, she is on the case! A bold rescue is enacted, but a missing lady attracts the attention of Enola's brother, Sherlock. Can Enola keep Cecily from danger and convince her brother to trust her judgement on the matter?

Enola's newfound love for fashion makes her a girl after my own heart. She knows just what outfit each situation calls for! I also appreciated that she takes advantage of those around her to learn what she needs to know and thinks outside the box to accomplish what needs done.

The one criticism I might have is that this book is that Sherlock Holmes is not quite like what I've come to know from the original stories. This book leans heavily into 'men are brutes'. Lady Cecily's father is an acknowledged cruel and selfish man, so I was surprised the author made Sherlock Holmes essentially say, "Well, that's just how it is. The law is the law" when the canon has him threatening to cane a man for mistreating a woman.

This was my first experience listening to one of this series. The narrator did a phenomenal job of capturing Enola’s quirky nature while still making her sound like a teenager.

Overall, though, this was a lot of fun to listen to. I look forward to listening to more in the future.

This is the first book that I've read in the Enola Holmes series, but definitely won't be the last. Even though this series is classified as YA, this book really appeals to any age group. Enola is such a strong main character and although her brother Sherlock does appear in the story, Enola is the main focus. She is smart and cunning in her own right and makes a great lead for this series. Tamaryn Payne did an excellent job bringing the story to life and made me feel like I was in Victorian England. This book can be read as a stand alone but I am looking forward to going back and reading the rest of the books in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book from Macmillan Audio through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I am so enjoying this series by Nancy Springer. I read the first in the series in 2021 having found it at my local library. I am a huge Sherlock fan and this is his sister Enola Holmes. The storyline has Sherlock in it but the book is all about Enola. My library has this book for a young adult reader but I found it a great read and feel that might put us older readers off. Please don't let it. After reading the first book I found out that Netflix has made the story in a series. I enjoyed the series but the books are outstanding. Katherine Kellgren does the narration for this book series and she is incredible. Katherine's voice is perfect for this series making an already good book even better. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade by Nancy Springer and narrated by Tamaryn Payne is a fun romp sure to engage the young adult crowd. The narrator transforms the story in such a way as to immerse the reader in Enola’s world. It is almost a surprise to stop listening and find oneself back in the current century.
Enola is the intrepid younger sister of Sherlock Holmes, who uses her keen observation and analytical skills to assist others in resolving personal matters. In this book, Enola assists Lady Cecily, who is under the total control of a father who cares more for social standing than the wellbeing of his daughter. Enola to the rescue!
I enjoyed the quirky characters, especially the other ladies from Enola’s boarding house. I did like the first book better but still enjoyed this installment and look forward to the next in the series. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.)

The newest installment of Enola Holmes holds true to previous adventures of Nancy Springer’s famous young detective. The wit and pace are quick and you will enjoy solving a case alongside the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes. The Enola series is a great addition to the Holmes universe, especially for young readers. This was a 4 star read for me!

Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade is the 8th book in the Enola Holmes series by Nancy Springer. I have not read all of the previous books, but was able to easily able to slip into the world of Enola and her brother, Sherlock, Holmes!

This was such a fun read! I loved how the author captured the time period so well and brought in the language of many classes to the dialogue throughout the book.

I absolutely loved the storyline! There were so many twists and turns and I loved solving this mystery with Enola! She was such an interesting character! I loved the way her mind works and how fiercely independent she is!

This is a fast paced audiobook and is so enjoyable to listen to! I look forward to reading the remaining books in the series and all the ones to come in the future!

Cute, quick middle grade read. Since watching the Enola Holmes movie on Netflix, I knew I wanted to get into these books. A quirky, young, female version of Sherlock is so fun. I also love the relationship between Enola and Sherlock. He is such an odd character that this notion of him being an older brother is really intriguing. I listened to the audiobook for this one and really enjoyed the narration. The voicing was well done and did a great job of illustrating Enola’s spunk. The narrator was great with accents and gender swapping in the dialogue.

Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade is a young adult book but strong in the Sherlock ethos. It goes more quickly than a typical Sherlock story but is worth the reader’s time. The story includes Lady Cecily Alistair who lives under the restrictive, if not authoritarian, dictates of her father. Enola is turned away at the door when she attempts to visit her friend and so determines that Cecily needs help. She tries to offer that help by breaking into her friend’s house in an attempt to talk to her. After she helps Cecily escape, she takes her to her secret office only to be met by the man hired by Lady Alastair to find her daughter- - -the one and only Sherlock Holmes. After losing Cecily and finding her again, it becomes obvious that she is not simpleton in need of taking care of, but an astute and clever young woman who can succeed on her own. She is, however, worried for her mother so the Holmes siblings set to work to figure out how to make life tenable for the two women and how to make Alastair behave.

The story has a clever plot and an even more clever solution. Enola is a fabulous character, one well deserving of the Holmes tradition. She has no Watson but she has her brother, although she is just as clever as he is, just lacking the preponderance of experience he brings to any situation. She never gives up, just rethinks. She makes friends easily and they often come to help her. She gives us an outstanding view of Victorian England and its restrictions, especially on women. She is a terrific character and Nancy Springer does her justice. It was a thoroughly enjoyable time!

Tamaryn Payne iss the reader and there could not have been a better choice. Her accent was perfect, easy to listen to, and made her sound the perfect age to be Enola. She was terrific.

This was a wonderful addition to the series. At first, when I was selected to review this book, I was confused because it was introduced as a new series. I'm glad it's a continuation of the existing series, though, and that it falls in line with the Netflix storyline as well.

Enola Holmes is the sister of the famous Sherlock Holmes but is busy making a name for herself. She is living independently in a home for women in London. But she soon hears news that a former acquaintance, Lady Cecily, is being held captive by her unpleasant father. Enola’s attempt to help Lady Cecily ends in an unexpected manner, and she finds herself entangled in another adventure.

This was a fun work that is adjacent to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series. I was a little disappointed, because I went in expecting it to be similar to Sherlock Holmes – I’ve read most of those stories and love them. I was expecting a more mystery-based plot and it to be centered on deducing certain things and following threads. This work wasn’t really that, and the premise was relatively straightforward and predictable. However, it was good in its own right.

Enola is a likeable protagonist. The author gave her many relatable strengths that shone through during the plot. The secondary characters were well written as well and had good depth. I really enjoyed Lady Cecily’s situation and how it related to her left- and right-handedness. The author included relevant and interesting historic information regarding the treatment of women during this time, as well as regarding the belief that being left-handed was deviant.

This was a fun, quick read that had an enjoyable setting and premise. While it is part of a series, you can read it as a standalone. I recommend this to fans of historical fiction and light mystery. My thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to read and review this work, which will be published today!

Another wonderful installment in the trails and adventures of Enola Holmes!

I truly enjoyed my journey with Enola as she is determined to help a friend. The discussions with her brother, Sherlock Holmes, are as wonderful as always. I admit that this one seemed to have a bit less tension than other books in the series, but the story was heartwarming. I'd easily recommend this book to girls everywhere who are looking for a hero who is smart and inventive and amazing!

Thank you @wednesdaybooks and @netgalley for my digital and audio review copies of ENOLA HOLMES AND THE ELEGANT ESCAPADE by Nancy Springer! This one publishes Tuesday September 6!

Have you ever wanted to escape? If so, you wanna know Enola 😉 Enola is the much younger sister to Sherlock Holmes, and finds herself not fitting into the societal demands of young women of her age.

This was a quick read/listen. I listened to the audiobook in basically an afternoon and I enjoyed it! These mysteries are quick, fun and full of adventure! This book, is basically a mystery gone wrong… Enola hells someone escape, only for her brother, Sherlock to find her, leaving Enola frantic.

Overall, a quick YA mystery, and if you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes, this will be especially fun for you!

This was my first Enola Holmes book, and it was so much fun! I had a 3 hour detour on a road trip recently, and this story kept me engaged and entertained through the whole detour. The audiobook was beautifully read.
I appreciated how the story worked as a stand alone. It was evident that there was back history between various characters that would make the reading experience even more enjoyable for those who have read the earlier books. However, knowing the back history wasn’t essential to following the story line.
Enola was a delightful character. I loved how strong and independent she was, and I loved her relationship with her big brother Sherlock.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first Enola book and honestly I really enjoyed it. Mystery isn’t really my go to category but it was easy, fun, and a quick read. Even though it was quick, it also still felt complete. I would absolutely read another. The narrator also did outstanding!

This was another fun romp with Enola Holmes this time involving rescuing a friend with split personality disorder from her own family. The one thing I really liked more with this book than the first one is that there's more Sherlock. I loved that we get to see Sherlock and Enola's relationship evolve in this book. These are such fun reads and I enjoy them.

This was a cute story! I'm glad it's been made into a Netflix series and I'll be tuning in to watch. This gave me similar vibes to other time pieces in which women went against the grain for societal norms and made things happen. Enola was a cute character with fun relationships with friends, her brother Sherlock, and other members of society. This one will have you rooting for Enola and her friend.

I have yet to read an Enola Holmes story I didn't enjoy.

Audiobook: I enjoyed the narrator chosen for this audiobook. She voiced each character well and fit Enola's personality. I liked that this was a shorter audiobook.

Story: I like this stories (and similar) for various reasons. One being that during this time period women were expected to act a certain way and Enola doesn't. She finds a way to get what she needs without Sherlock's help.. She is good at disguises and working people to get information.

These stories stay true to Sherlock stories. A great mystery to listen to.

Thank you Macmillian Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
