A very pleasant read, packed with so much knowledge. Highly recommend this book, it may not be for everyone, but if it’s for you - you’ll know it and love it.
Absolutely fascinating, and so many great anecdotes and song recommendations. I think this would be interesting even for people who don't intend to practice witchcraft.
Great Magic
First of all, Najah Lightfoot, provides background information on Voodoo by stating that it is a religion, which requires commitment, time and effort, and practice. It requires initiation to become a member of a Vodou House or Society, which is similar to being baptized or christened in a mainstream faith or organized religion.
Some of the topics Najah discusses are circle casting, petition papers, crossroads and graveyards, Florida water, and many other topics. She further discusses several rituals and the items needed for them each, especially, the Take Me to the Crossroads Ritual. Being from Mississippi, the midnight crossroad spells were something deeply believed in the south. This book has many great rituals and they are well written and easy to understand.
Much thanks and appreciation to all the Deities mentioned in this book and may all that own it and believe in them be blessed.
I liked Good Juju and appreciated this book. I found interesting how the author interact with music and the different elements.
I also liked the women the author chose.
An excellent book, highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I highly enjoyed Powerful Juju by Najah Lightfoot. I got a lot of out of this book and it's a book that I want to spend a lot more time with because there is a lot to absorb and a lot in this gem.
First, it would be good to read through it and then gather supplies and then devote some time to employ some practices and that is my plan. When the book comes out I am going to buy this book. The book is well formatted and the writing is good but what I would change is to have a bit more breakdown and some color in the book. Also some drawings at least. I do like the song suggestions also. But the book should have more visual interest instead of a lot of writing because it would help draw the reader in.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher Llewellyn Publishers for the opportunity to read and review Powerful Juju by Najah Lightfoot.
An excellent assortment of helpful ways and rituals. I really like this book not only for its intelligent choice in matters that most all people go through but for its new material. The dieties and chosen saints or holy people are diverse, The rituals are written in a way that shows the author IMO has experience in calling on help from the other side before. My favorite work was for Sulis Minerva. You wont need lots of eexpensive stuff and odd curios for the helpful rituals in this book. Really well written and positive path forward for those that practice freedom of spirituality and religion.
This book is simply beautiful to me. I love the goddesses, music selections and rituals offered as well as the personal experiences shared by the authoress. I often call on my female ancestors, so reading this book was a blessing to be introduced to how another witch practices. Sure, I’ve heard of Lilith and a few others, but never had I considered Frida Kahlo or some of the others. It is the extension of my existing practices and I really love the addition of music.
The authoress takes you through her practices, rites and rituals, but is clear that you can, and should, make them your own over time. While I personally would not feel comfortable calling on Marie Laveau, that is because of my respect for Vodou as a religion, but that doesn’t mean you can’t. The authoress takes you through a list of goddesses to call on for various aid and from here you can build upon this list with more goddesses and requests.
Well written, down to earth, and respectful of beliefs of all. This is a great way for setting intentions and asking for guidance, strength, etc. Well worth the read and a great addition to your library.
