''Animal Rescue Friends: Friends Fur-ever“ is a graphic novel for middle-grade readers. It is made up of 5 stories featuring five friends who are devoted to animal rescue and rehabilitation. Their animal rescue friends club is focused on the care of exotic animals. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the engaging stories will appeal to animal lovers.
This didn't really do it for me even though I liked its overall message of Adopt Don't Shop and being kind to animals. We get a series of short vignettes with a recurring cast and main overlying plotline, but I didn't feel engaged despite the high readability and rich artwork. I also wish the pets had been shown with better living conditions instead of being cooped out in small cages/tanks.
The animals are super cute though. Young readers might enjoy this graphic novel more and pick up some good values along the way.
Animal Rescue Friends: Friends Fur-ever is a graphic novel made up of 5 stories. The characters are a group of Oakville Elementary School students who are in the club for Animal Appreciation, Education, and Rehabilitation. Each story has an animal that the group helps or gets to know. There is a story of a rescue porcupine, a scared horse who wants to be in the parade, but not pull a cart, a sick bearded dragon, and a therapy pig. This group of kids don't always get along with others, but the animals help them to mend fences and help them as well. Each story has a lesson to it, such as being friends, working together, learning about dementia, forgiveness and more. My grandson read this by himself and really liked it. We also found the stories read aloud on youtube, so the other two actually watched the different stories and liked them that way. I recommend this book to those who love animals. I also think parents and teachers can use the various stories with kids who might be having a problem similar to what is happening in the story. The illustrations are well done and include children of various cultures and nationalities, so it promotes acceptance and multi-culturalism as well. I know late primary and early junior grades really like graphic novels, especially reluctant readers, so I recommend this book to school libraries and classrooms.
This is a great book that is sure to please any young animal lover. It has beautiful illustrations and is a fun read.
I received a complimentary copy from Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own.
My tween and I read this book together and she rates Animal Rescue Friends: Friends Fur-ever by Jana Tropper 5 stars.
First, I love the diversity of the characters and pictures. I really liked the premise of the friends creating their own club and saving animals. My tween also loved this, as well as how much everyone helped each other, showing the value of community.
Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC.
Love this follow up to the first Animal Rescue Friends graphic novel. The adventures continues at Oakville Elementary, and the kids are back to care for animals of all kinds.
This one is GREAT! The drawings are super beautiful, but also the story is great. I believe most school-aged (middle grade age) kids will enjoy this one. It has friendships, it has school, and it has animals. And it goes way below the surface level, this is deeper than a simple graphic novel with cute drawings.
My kids really love The Animal Rescue Friends. We’ve read them both from the library and on Epic! This book was a good addition to the series. The illustrations are great and they really love the graphic novel format. It is a great book with a great lesson learned.
We had a hard time getting access to this arc.
While we werenunable to finish it before the time ran out what we read was enjoyed and my girls cannot wait to purchase it when it is released.
Overall this book is a 10/10 in terms of it being an easy graphic novel that is not only visually appealing but also has a diverse positive message about children interacting with their communities in a valuable way. The chapters link to one another displaying a narrative that circles the fact that these children all share an interest in ARF, the Animal Rescue Friends while dealing with interpersonal conflicts. I think that this would be a great addition to anyone's library and I look forward to seeing more good work from EPIC!
I received a free eARC of this book. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.

A lot of kids love animals. In this adorable graphic novel, Maddie and Bell, as well as their 5th grade friends and teacher sponsor, start an Animal Rescue friends club, focused on the care of exotic animals. This is a fun, cute, relatable book which will appeal to animal lovers. The graphic novel format will support struggling readers, but give them the longer format and content that is age appropriate as well. This book is a perfect addition to school and classroom libraries, and is likely to be quite beloved by many children.
My son (age 7) is a big fan of graphic novels, such as Cat Ninja from Epic. I appreciated the following from Animal Rescue Friends: Friends Fur-ever:
1) Easy to read graphic novel format with colorful, visually appealing pictures
2) The diversity in age, ethnicity, and physical abilities of the characters was fantastic! This includes Mrs. Wen's elderly grandmother, who was in a wheelchair, and Mrs. Baker, who had a guide dog
3) Positive messages, such as caring for animals, visiting the elderly, modeling polite behavior, and animal adoption.
Overall a great graphic novel that appeals to 3rd-6th graders.
What an adorable graphic novel about friendship, animals, and working together! The illustrations are bright and colorful and the stories are engaging and well written.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title. All opinions and mistakes are my own.
I love this group of kids! Back in a new graphic novel, we follow Bell, Maddie, Noah and the rest of the gang as they roll into a whole new adventure. They form a new club, along with some other kids for school. The animals that they learn about are more than just your run of the mill cat and dog. There are lessons to be learned, but in a fun way, while the graphic illustrations are easy to see with a good font and an easy-to-follow story line. This will help young readers looking to move into a longer book but still have the needed engagement of pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what’s next for this fun group. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.
I really like this series of graphic novels. They are fun and vibrant and easy to read. I like the friendships in this book and the look at all the different animals.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
This is a fantastic graphic novel for middle-grade readers. The illustrations are large, clean, and easy to read. This graphic novel has a storyline that can. I will let my kid read this when he is older.
This fantastic graphic novel is sure to become a favourite for middle grade readers. With bright illustrations, relatively large, clean, accessible font and an easy to follow story line, this book is perfect for readers who are ready to transition into longer novels but still benefit from pictures to help tell the story. Additionally, graphic novels are super popular and kids love to read them so this will be a great addition to classroom libraries in the grades 2-5 range, as well as a great gift for readers who love animals and graphic novels! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
