Just My Type is the perfect romantic comedy with a great storyline and character development. I enjoyed the competition aspect. At times, I was yelling at the characters to get together and was worried they would be too in their own ways to do so. Immediately after finishing this book, I requested Falon’s previous book Lease on Love because I loved her writing so much!

Thank you to Falon Ballard, Penguin Group Putnam, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so funny and lovely and everything I could hope for in a second chance romcom. Once I started it I could not put it down. It was honest where I felt like I could relate to it in my own way. The opening gave some major Legally Blonde vibes, which is a top favorite movie for me, so I knew I would be hooked the rest of the book... and spoiler alert... I was. I've always been a serial monogamous person like Lana, bouncing from one relationship to another and I found that I could really relate to her. It was a great second chance love story that made me swoon at times. Loved this.

Thank you NetGalley and the Author for providing this ARC for review.

This is my first book by Fallon Ballard and I absolutely loved it. The second chance and work place romance was so good. I didn't expect it to be so deep, but it got deep. So many emotions in this book. The character development was so good! I do wish she had spent a little more time on the mom-daughter dynamic, but overall, loved how everything tied.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for this ARC

This should have been a romance I loved. Rivals in a work setting? Yes, please! But all it did was serve as a reminder to me that second chance romance rarely work for me. For a second chance romance to work, I need a reason to root for the couple to rekindle their love. Either a detailed backstory or maybe a dual timeline showing me how and why the couple fell in love. Here, you have none of that, and unfortunately, it resulted in my never connecting with the couple. Despite this, there were several laughs, and the plot was cute enough, regardless of one absolutely atrocious character. I also enjoyed the Los Angeles setting. The writing was easy to read. I read this in nearly one sitting.

Despite me not loving this, I can see so many people falling for this couple.

I really enjoy Ballard’s writing style! She created such great characters. You fall in love with them and you’ll be rooting for them the whole time!

I really loved this book!! Loved the banter between the two MCs, as well as their group of journalist friends. Lana did start off a bit annoying and quite self-centered, but I felt like her character growth was strong. I would have loved to have Seth’s perspective- I think it would have given a nice contrast- but still really enjoyed this read.

I loved this book. I do enjoy more smut, however, this book kept me wanting to read more and more. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance novels.

A solid sophomore effort for Falon Ballard. Lana Parker is not having a great week- instead of her long-term boyfriend proposing, he breaks up with her. She has the mother of all hangovers thanks to drinking her sorrows away with her BFF, AND the one guy that got away, and arguably the last person on the planet she would want to see, her high-school ex boyfriend is now competing with her for a coveted promotion at work. Thrown together by a crazy social media competition, Lana and Scott have to figure out if they can get past their differences, or call it quits for good.

I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a good rom-com of a novel.

Thank you publisher for letting me access an advanced copy of this title!

Ok... I have to say... high school sweethearts is not my favorite trope. It usually puts me off of books because I think it’s just a step to unrealistic for me. Having grown up in a big city in South America, I definitely think this is more of an American concept rooted in small tows/suburb growing up. It’s just not something that we have that often. So, the premise of this book intrigued me and I saw it as more of a challenge to get through this trope that I have a hard time believing/suspending disbelief in. I have to say... this went way better than I thought it would. Mainly because Lana’s flaws are well worked through the book, and her struggles feel more real than the usual main character in these stories. Yes, she is incredibly privileged and it nagged me a bit that she really just was stuck at her job and didn’t even try moving. And the fact that she can be a lifestyle/love advice columnist and survive in LA owning property? Yeah, you lost me there. Otherwise, I think the side characters really push this narrative forward and show the main character that she has the support she needs to go all-in her adventure.

Other than the overprivileged main character, I think we would really gain from getting Seth’s point of view in this story. I want to know his family struggles and what is going on in his brain, but I think it might have been a wise choice to stick with only Lana’s point of view. Still... when characters’ are experiencing growth I like to be in their heads while that happens. I think that makes the story more interesting/fascinating when we can see the growth through the individual’s POV and the other MC. It builds and solidifies the growth, making it not just something seen on the inside but actually perceived by others around them.

Solid read with great MC growth and important lessons about boundaries, self-growth, and learning when to ask for things you want/need from others.

This was sooooooo freaking cute!!

Usually second love romance with friends to lovers isn’t something that will click with me because the miscommunication always gets to be way too much and makes my hairs stand up not in a good way!

However this was very well done. Yes, there was miscommunication but it was easily gotten over by the main characters. I specially appreciated that the ending didn’t feel just thrown together for the sake of it.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a cure second chance romance. Main characters are so likeable and I completely adore Seth. Lana has such a well developed character even tho the book was short!

Overall really really enjoyed this 🫶🏻

What a delight! I loved Falon Ballard's first rom-com and was excited for her sophomore effort. And it did not disappoint! Full of the signature wit, charm, and sassiness I expected, this was a fun romp.

WHAT I LOVED
💻 It has ALL of the 10 Things I Hate About You vibes, but still has a great deal of originality.
💻 The depiction of journalists working in a newsroom was very accurate (even down to the Slack messages)
💻 Enemies to lovers doesn’t always work for me (especially in the workplace), but Lana and Seth’s second chance/enemies-to-lovers arc was well-executed and I actually believed the romance between them
💻 Seth definitely belongs in the “Book Boyfriend” hall of fame – no question about it
💻 This is a great quick read if you’re looking for a contemporary romance that’s not too “romancey”

WHAT DIDN’T WORK
💻 The challenge between Seth and Lana arises after their editor decides to get involved in their relationship and seeing a someone in a position of power manipulate their employees’ personal lives in that manner didn’t sit well with me. The ethical issues around this were discussed towards the end of the novel which eased some of my concern, but I still feel kind of weird about this plotline in an age when we’re trying to eliminate workplace harassment. The challenge between Seth and Lana could have been introduced in a more organic (and consensual) way and still worked within the frame of the story – there was no need for the editor to be involved.

After finishing this, I’m excited to go back and check out Lease on Love while I wait for Falon Ballard’s next novel. Just My Type is out now. Thanks to Putnam and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Lana is a writer working at a job as a relationship columnist which does not fulfill her. When her childhood sweetheart walks back into her life, she is thrown into a competition to obtain a position that would propel her career into something she wants for herself. However, the competition heats up as Seth and Lana work to change their current methods of relationships and dating by creating lists of items that they need to complete by the end of the challenge.

This book is about Seth and Lana's relationship, but the bigger focus for the reader (more like what stuck with me) was Lana's self discovery. She spends a large portion of the book discovering so much about herself and coming to terms with certain aspects of her life that she knew and didn't acknowledge or had never thought about. The author does a wonderful job of writing about self reflection and overcoming past difficulties while also writing about Seth and Lana's love.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is contemplating if they should start it. The author normalizes things like therapy and self improvement which is not always something that is talked about in romance books and is beautifully intertwined into the story.

I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.

Similar to the authors first book I had to slug through the first 30-40% before I found myself enjoying the story. The characters’ language is immature (like the constant use of jerk and using mythical gods names in lieu of god - no one does that), the characters traits are inconsistent, the book is both too detailed (we get it, she drinks hazelnut lattes) while simultaneously leaving so many loose ends. In the end, this book was fine and if you’re looking for something to read this fits the bill.

Falon Ballard's sophomore novel is not one to sleep on! Ballard writes with such heart and great witty banter that I immediately get sucked into the story. Any second novel is going to run into some pitfalls - and I certainly struggled a little with the pacing and a bit of a rush ending. However, the excitement over dealing with a work competition with your ex-boyfriend and first love?? It's a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers romance that we deserve! Our MC Lana really has to do some soul searching and self-improvement to battle her past a present when Seth casually walks back into her life - and honestly Lana's immediate response of "what the F**ck are you doing here?" when she first makes eye contact with him?? Iconic. I also really value the insight to Lana's friendship circles and her relationship to her coworkers. This bubble set inside of LA was just a joy to explore and the ride was well worth it! I still think Ballard's first novel, Lease on Love, is my favorite BUT I loved Just My Type all the same and I'm so excited to see what is next from the author.

okay girl is a serial-monogamist and afraid to be alone AND HER EX shows up as a new coworker and they are BOTH challenged to be the opposite they are in relationships (he being single and ready to mingle always because of his past traveling for work) so she must learn to be alone and he must learn how to put down roots and commit. WOW. These two have DEEP history. I had so much fun reading!! Thank you so much to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read in exchange for a review.

I ate this book up! The perfect second chance romance with such a good storyline. A perfect rom-com. Lana is hysterical and I really related to her as a character, she’s obsessed with reading and marvel comics, which are basically my top personality traits. Seth comes back into her life after relocating to LA, and Lana’s world turns upside down. She shows such growth during this book about learning to love yourself while single and learning to be alone. This book had a great message and I’m so happy I read it. Fallon’s writing is absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to see what else she has coming.

I really liked this author's first book and was excited to read another! I liked the writing style a lot, but the plot was just too predictable for me. I also thought there would be some big reveal for why the two main characters stopped talking, but found their fallout underwhelming and not worthy of all the drama of their reunion.

Thank you netgalley for my copy of this book!

This was my first novel by this author and I loved this one. I have had this one on my netgalley shelf for awhile now and I’m kicking myself for not reading this one sooner.

I love the enemies to lovers / second chance romance tropes. I read this one in a day and couldn’t stop smiling the whole time.

I’m now going in search of the first book by Ballard.

Highly recommend!

Lana (LP) Parker is the perfect book character. I loved her rawness that the author so perfectly constructed for us.

This second chance romance was complex, and yet oh so swoony. I laughed out loud so often!

Lana's friends were so supportive and amazing, but what I loved most was Lana's ability to learn to love herself. She was able to find a philautia (Greek work for selflove) in such a unique way.

This was just what I needed. Seth was great, and their love was epic for sure. But Lana was clearly everything here. I loved it.

Thank you to Putnam and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this one. All opinions are my own.
