After a devasting break-up, high school sweet hearts Lana and Seth go separate ways. Seth becomes a serial dater while traveling and Lana becomes the ultimate girlfriend type with multiple long-term relationships while writing a relationship column in her dream city of LA. Now 30 they find themselves reunited fighting for the same job. Playing off the obvious rivalry, their boss uses their history to drive their writing. Both Seth and Lana must go outside their normal comfort zone with a to-do list, write about it, and see who the readers enjoy more. Funny part is they each get to pick the to-do list for the other.

This was a cute book. It reminded me of Sex in the City and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. It even referenced How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days in the book, so I assumed that story line was the goal. Lana seemed a little immature for 30, but I was able to look past that. Overall, it’s a good romcom! I would recommend to anyone that really enjoyed the early 2000s romcoms and/or a second chance romance trope.

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Putnam and Falon Ballard for the advance e-copy of Just My Type! I enjoyed this one so much - it was just adorable! Enemies to lovers, a second chance workplace romance - Just My Type has it all! Lana & Seth dated in high school but after a disastrous breakup their freshman year of college and a disastrous run in at a reunion, Lana has sworn off Seth forever. That is until they are forced to face off against each other at work when Seth shows up unexpectedly as the new employee at Lana's office. The competition is fierce, the competition is heated....and maybe the competition is also super sweet. Seth stole my heart in this one. Loved it!

Second chance, enemies to lovers, rom-com, work rivals to who knows what. So many genres and only one couple! Lena has never really been single since she and her high school love broke up. She bounced from one long term relationship to the next. She is finally ready to take some time to find out who she is and what she wants and needs out of a relationship. Good luck with that when Seth, an ex, who broke her heart comes barreling back into every aspect of her life. There is no place safe from him. Turns out they’re competing for the same “dream job” that they both covet with their entire beings. They eventually team up and wow! This is a fun, well written laugh out loud romp to their eventual obvious happily ever after. Lots of laughter and romance along the way. I have given away nothing so no worries.

I thank Netgalley and Author Falon Ballard for an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Lana and Evan begin a competition to land a journalism gig. Did I mention that Lana and Evan were high school sweethearts who had a gut wrenching break-up? They have to perform tasks that they wrote for each other. As the items on the lists get checked off, they find themselves remembering the feelings and hurt from the past. Are the feelings really gone? Wi they put the competition to the side and aim for a bigger prize? I really enjoyed this story and was really invested in Lana and Evan! Also, shout out to May who was a wonderful best friend to Lana

Second chance romance.
Seth dumped Lana years ago. Now they are pitted against each other at the magazine they are both writing for will it lead them back together. A great read.

This book did not live up to my expectations. I had a hard time liking the characters and rooting for the romance.

Love, love, loved it!

This book was so fun, and really funny at times. Honestly Lana and I would TOTALLY be friends in real life. Talking about Marvel and Star Wars? I never related to a character more, lol.

Did I mention how funny it was? I loved Lanas interactions with her friend group, with Seth. I always love a good second chance. They always bring a little bit of some angst with them. And I eat that up.

In the story the characters get put in some situations that bring hilarity and some times some head banging. From me, I wanted to bang my head!

The chemistry is all there. Good romance, angsty convos, and fun. I binged it all in one night. (And morning)

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC of Just My Type . I really enjoyed this book and feel it will do well and will be seeing it all over bookstagram. I always love reading books where I can actually picture the settings. l.A. was a perfect setting for these two characters . Lana and Seth obviously still have feelings for each other and I like seeing how they have to work together at their job and get through those feelings. I love Lana’s friends but you will have to read the book to finger out if they can make it work

Very cute read that looks at different relationships from all different angles. I loved the main and supporting characters and loved reading about their journey.

“I’m most certainly overwhelmed by the absolute certainty that this is how we are meant to be. And it doesn’t really matter how we got here, it just matters that we did.”

Just My Type is a super cute Rom Com. It is one of those feel good books with a second chance romance/enemies to lovers trope. Lana Parker is the quirky, lovable main character who has her life together but just can’t see it yet. Seth Carson is the charming ex-boyfriend who makes a reappearance in Lana’s life turning everything upside down.

There are so many relatable moments in this book. My particular favorite was the IKEA scene. Honestly, surviving a trip to IKEA with someone does truly test the strength of a relationship. I do wish there was a scene of assembling the furniture together, but maybe that would have kept Lana and Seth apart forever.

While it was a fun story, I did feel as if the competition really threw a wrench into the reality of the book. I am not personally in the writing industry, but the whole premise of the competition seems completely unethical. As much as I think there would be public interest, certain things on the lists - particularly the one night stand -probably wouldn’t go over well on social media. I also wish Natasha got her comeuppance, but I guess we can’t always get what we want.

If you need a feel good book, this will definitely do it for you!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

I loved this second-chance, workplace, enemies to lover romance! I think of the three tropes the second chance was the my favorite. I loved seeing glimpses of their romance before their split. I wish we could have spent more time fleshing that out rather than the rivalry aspect. Either way, a solid read!

If you like second chance, rivals to lovers, workplace romance; read this!

Lana and Seth were a bit frustrating at times, but I ultimately enjoyed their relationship. There were a lot of scenes that had me genuinely laughing out loud. I loved Lana’s journey of finding her inner strength and learning to be more independent and comfortable with it.

This was such a fun read and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author!

3.5 stars rounded up! I enjoyed this one, though I definitely had high expectations from Lease on Love.

Overall I thought this was really sweet— I liked Lana’s character arc and there was some of the same fun friendship bits from LoL. I had a little bit of trouble with the second chance romance because we don’t get a lot of their previous relationship, and the way the breakup is revealed so late in the story made it hard to feel invested. I really loved the grand gesture at the end though.

Can we please, for the love of god, stop with the quirky girl who loves Marvel so much trope. The shoehorned pop-culture references really took me out of it.

All in all I look forward to Ballard’s next book!

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of the second book from lease on love author Fallon Ballard.
I sat on my thoughts after finishing this book to see how I really felt about the book. I’m glad I did because my thoughts did change.

This book is a second chance romance for Lana and Seth, high school sweethearts who haven’t seen each other in a long time. They are forced to compete against each other for their dream job. As they go through the competition, they discover a lot about themselves and their relationship.

What I liked: the writing was done well and the characters did elicits a reaction from you while reading. Seth seem like the kind of guy that everyone wants, he’s smart, well traveled and read, physically fit and charming. Lana is equally as attractive but is carrying some baggage through from her childhood and past relationships. Lana definitely was harder to like and her actions didn’t always seem to the description of her. At first I hated how she get going back to the same patterns and mistakes but realize that it would be unrealistic to expect her to change immediately. The story was sweet and really like the mental health journey that the characters take.

Miscommunication troupe is not my favorite because I always want to have the characters talk it all out at one time instead of going back and forth. I wish there would have been more to establish their past relationship and status as soulmates. They talk about sunflowers having such an impact to them but I didn’t understand why.

Overall if you enjoyed her first book and a romance fan, I think this book is for you. It is a shorter book so could be binged.

After a super fantastic debut novel, this second book by Falon Ballard had a lot to live up to.

JUST MY TYPE is a Second Chance romance where high school sweethearts are pitted against each other in a competition for the same job.

Lana is a really complex heroine. I found her likable, even when she was acting fairly unlikable. And Seth was a great male lead! A definite cinnamon roll hero with a bit of a cocky side. The chemistry between Lana and Seth is FIRE. So much sexual tension!

And I truly loved the very positive professional Therapy rep in this book!

The middle portion gets reallllly slow. I was almost ready to put the book down. I'm glad that I didn't because JUST MY TYPE picks up again and has a great HEA.

There were a lot of predictable plot lines that I wish were switched up a bit and one truly unintentionally embarrassing tattoo. I laughed out loud at a part that was supposed to be achingly sweet. I won't spoil that part for you, but it gives serious Ted-Mosby-Butterfly-Tramp-Stamp vibes. IYKYK.

In the end, JUST MY TYPE was a pretty predictable, but sweet (and a little spicy) read that I really wanted to love, but ended up just liking.

𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟: Rated R / 1-4 descriptive sex scenes, may have harsh language.
𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦: past parent abandonment, emotionally distant parent
𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗦: 2/5 - A bit of drama, but still a pretty light read.

This was probably the most honest depiction of a second chance romance I’ve ever read. And I say that because this novel grapples with an important idea: that exes have hurt their former partner, and it’s important that hurt is addressed and overcome before the romance escalates. And that is exactly what this novel did, which made it a refreshing second-chance romance read.

This novel held the same snarky and entertaining writing style that was found in Lease on Love. It amazes me that Falon Ballard’s novels never fail to make me laugh out loud as I tear through her books. The sarcasm, the witty humor—it’s a writing style that’s not always found in romcoms, but Ballard makes her writing shine by wielding that wit to draw her characters off the page.

Like Lease on Love, Ballard does shy away from embracing the backstory mode and digging deeper into the trauma of her characters. (This is the main reason why I can’t give this book five stars.) Ballard is great at toeing the line of what is just enough information to make the reader understand what makes the main leads tick. But I couldn’t help but want to dig a little further than that, as the information given is just enough to paint watercolors on a blank canvas. But I wanted an oil painting, especially when it came to Lana and Seth’s backstory.

In addition to the bare minimum backstory, the novel also didn’t deep-dive into the relationship trauma Lana had after her breakup with Seth. That trauma is a huge part of her life, and an unconscious motivation to her serial monogamy. Just like the backstory, we received enough details for the trauma to affect character relationships and to understand why Lana behaves the way she does. But I couldn’t help but crave more details about all her past relationships (since we really only learned about Evan and Seth, but not the other two boyfriends Lana had). Although, I do have to give Ballard a shout-out for her positive representation of therapy. I felt like I was sitting right alongside Lana as she talked with her therapist, and even learned a few things myself.

Similar to Lease on Love, I did feel like there was a small plotting imbalance to the novel. (AKA, I wanted more romance and resolution than we received. Why are romcom resolutions never longer than a chapter and an epilogue? I love seeing the main leads enjoying being in, well, love!) I was a little surprised as to how quickly Seth and Lana got over/resolved the gulf of hurt between them, which was largely derived from the miscommunication between them. I just wish we had fifty more pages of this story—fifty more pages to see them grow into the people they needed to be before falling back in love with each other. And then tack on another fifty pages of watching them be disgustingly in love—that was one of my favorite parts of Lease on Love!

With all that being said, I absolutely did adore this novel with every fiber of my being. I was rooting for Lana and Seth right alongside the minor characters—who almost stole the show with how realistic and supportive they all were—who could see the chemistry and love bond long before our two love interests did. I also adored getting to see a different side to Los Angeles. As a city I’ve never visited before, this book truly tossed me into the city and showed many sides to it that I haven’t seen in popular media.

If you’re a fan of romcom tropes—second chance romance, workplace romance, lowkey enemies-to-lovers, and miscommunication—you truly don’t need to look farther than this book. It’s a story full of heart, full of amazing character development, all wrapped up in Falon Ballard’s signature and charming writing style. Truly, it was such an enjoyable novel to read and I look forward to rereading it in the future.

This was my first Fallon Ballard novel, and I thought it was a great rom com read. Romcoms are my favorite as I love to laugh while also floating on cloud nine with swoon-worthy scenes. Just My Type reads like a nostalgic romcom, my immediate thought went to 'How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.' Lana and Seth's dynamic was great when together, but also I loved the individual character growth throughout the novel as well. They both learned to grow into themselves before finding a new way forward to se if and how the other would fit into their future. I enjoyed the romance of the novel, and I thought this was a light, quick and easy read. A solid 3.5 stars from me!

🌻Review - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5🌻

📖Just My Type by Falon Ballard
🗓️Pub date: February 7, 2023 (out now!)

“I’m the spinning needle of a compass and you’ve always been my true north, Parker.”

Lana Parker is a 30 year old serial monogamist who seems to get out of one serious relationship and then right into another. She writes a relationship and dating column but really wants to write about things that actually interest her, like books and movies. When Lana gets a chance to write about whatever she wants, she jumps at the opportunity. The only problem is she will be competing with Seth Carson, the guy who broke her heart 12 years ago, for that position.

Seth and Lana are thrown into the competition. With their boss forcing them to do some of the activities together, Lana starts to realize she may not be as over Seth as she thought she was. But is she willing to throw away the opportunity for a major career change and what she’s always wanted for another shot with her first love?

First of all, the banter between Lana and Seth is what really drew me in. I loved their sarcasm and constant fighting, but it was really flirting. You could feel the tension between these two and I thought the build up was done really well.

I felt like I connected with Lana’s character a lot. I loved all of her nerdy little quirks, especially the Marvel/Avengers references. Seeing her character development and growth, especially through her therapy sessions, was one of the best parts of this book.

While I loved Lana’s character, I feel like I didn’t connect as well with Seth. I do wish we could’ve seen some of his POV, but I still really enjoyed the story.

Read if you enjoy:
🌻Second chance romance
🌻Workplace romance
🌻Forced proximity
🌻Enemies to lovers.

OK, this is much better than what I expected! Idk where to start, so let's go to the beginning

Lana's story starting with a breakup was such a cliche, I actually paused reading for a week before coming back. And don't regret it. The tension literally skyrockets the moment Seth enters and you can't help but watch with baited breath. The chemistry between Lana and Seth Is fire.

Seth is Lana's hot first love, turned up at work while they are both forced to compete for their dream job. This is my no means a fair and friendly contest with the intimate, compelling challenges they have been listed. At the end of 10 weeks, the reader of the ATF will choose the winner and candidate for the job.

Yes, this is a full combo of second chance romance, enemies to lovers AND forced proximity all rolled in one. You can expect some steamy romance while Ballard takes 'heartwarming' to the next level with her sweet descriptions and swoon worthy scenes. No kidding, she's got all the good stuff, from their knack in pressing the other's buttons to love confessions that make you go awww. For once the intimacy didn't make me cringe but just idolize this pair even more.

Then why four stars?
First- I hated Natasha. How does Lana worship her? The only perfect match for this manipulative boss is Rapunzel's evil mother from Tangled.
Secondly, I was hoping for a deeper and juicier backstory than the one presented in the story, although I'll be the first to admit that it was realistic.

And I didn't understand the relevance of the title of the book, so I'm confused. Also to put it out there, this cover is a beauty to say in the least, I'm sure you will agree.

So I hope I've convinced you to buy a copy of Just My Type coz this brilliant piece deserves a place on your bookshelf.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the early review copy in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 out of 5.

Whew. This book right here. What a fucking doozy. Can I just say “Fuck Natasha” and be done with it? I loved this one more than Lease on Love which is saying something. And that epilogue? I’m swooning. SWOONING.

What a delight.
