I love how quick and fun Falon's books are. Some parts felt a bit unrealistic to me, but overall I had a fun time reading this one! I also liked that this book touched on the independence you feel when you learn to live on your own.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for my honest review! I read and enjoyed Lease on Love, so was looking forward to this sophomore release from Falon Ballard. Although it took me awhile to get into with a few false starts, I mostly enjoyed this one! Just My Type combines 2 of my favorite rom com tropes: childhood besties turned lovers and workplace enemies to lovers. I enjoyed both Lana and Seth's characters as well as the supporting cast of Lana's close friends. The plot was largely problematic in terms of the work competition, but the author obvi knew that/did it on purpose and addressed it well. Overall, a solid rom com.
I am such a huge fan of Fallon Ballard and Just My Type did not disappoint. Lana and Seth have such amazing chemistry and I love love loved their story.
A great sophomore release from this author! Love the vibes and feelings when reading this book, just an absolute delight. Counting the minutes until the next book from this author!
I devoured this book! I loved it so much. It was well written. The characters were well developed and you can see their growth throughout the book. Overall such a good read if you like high school romance, second chance romance, and an enemies to lovers book.
Plus a story full of amazing female friendships as well. I will definitely be reading more books by this author. Highly recommend!
I was instantly hooked to Lana and her personality! She is so funny & witty, while also showing us her vulnerability as she grows in the challenges. She didn’t have it easy growing up with an absent mother but she was lucky to find people who truly cared for her.🥰
Then enters Seth her ex/high school love. He has kind of the same personality so their banter was so cute and funny to me!
Unfortunately their high school romance didn’t end well for either, which is where the second romance and enemies to lovers trope comes in. The author definitely achieved this without making me cringe!
Least favorite character was definitely Natasha, as everyone was growing and learning to love themselves and other. She became more selfish and annoying to me! Can’t believe her speech!🫣
Overall such a good read if you like high school romance, second chance romance, enemies to lovers. And of course a story full of amazing female friendships!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.
I know the romance genre has taken the book world by storm. This does not exactly fit the mold - it's fairly light on steam, though it is open door, and it also deals a lot with the main character's career, relationship with her mother, and personal growth. I appreciated that the character was well-rounded in many ways, although I thought the attempts to make her "not like the other girls" by throwing in a few references to superheroes and fantasy was a bit too surface-level.
I selected this book because I loved the premise of two journalists working together in an enemies-to-lovers fashion. It was enjoyable enough, but nothing more than brain candy for me and a nice palate cleanser in between books.
falon is a very good romance writer and i cannot wait to see how she develops in the future. the plot of this book flowed in an amazing way, and the setting was incredible. a relationship beginning again 12 years later, seth coming back into her life… omg. the angst. i loved every second of it. falon should 100% dive deeper into enemies to lovers genre because i am obsessed!
I read this book a year ago while at the beach? I cannot believe it’s been a YEAR and that we already have the next Fallon Ballard book! Fallon has to be in like my top five auto buy authors! Her books always hit the tropes I need to feel and she just does romance so freaking right!
Let’s dive into this book in particular. Sadie and Jack. I mean just… WOW (insert Owen Wilson cameo here). The chemistry! The banter!! I mean just COME ON! They literally own my heart! And then completing all the assignments together just??? UGH
Fallon can you please write me a boyfriend because I fear the world will never create one as amazing as your male leads!
Major thanks to Fallon Ballard and Netgalley for gifting me an earthly copy of Just My Type!
This was a very cute story overall! I honestly really liked the pop culture/Marvel/Ted Lasso references. The relationship was very sweet. I enjoyed the competition and the writing element. I look forward to more books from this author!
An adorable second-chance romance with workplace forced-proximity added in.the chemistry between MCs Lana and Seth was fantastic. This book definitely gives How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days vibes, plot-wise.
There's a lot of emotion in this book, but it didn't seem cheesy. I think the amount of snark in the beginning balanced things out. I get why this story was a slow-burn, but that didn't mean it didn't make me antsy!
While I didn't love this story as much as Falon Ballard's first book, Lease on Love, I still really enjoyed her writing and characters, so I will certainly be reading her next book!
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin/Putnam for this arc!
Second-chance romances are not always my favorite trope and while I thought this was a better rendition of it, I still struggled towards the end.
Just My Type centers around two journalists: Lana, who can't seem to be alone and always finds herself in a relationship, and Seth, who hasn't had a serious relationship since these two broke up when they were 18. Suddenly vying for the same job, the two enter a competition where each person challenges the other to ten things. For Lana, she will need to learn to be alone. For Seth, how to prepare to be in an adult relationship. Hijinks ensue, feelings rekindle, and these two find their way back to themselves.
I guess where I struggled is that I didn't feel connected to these two and I didn't find this conflict believable. I wish we had more context as to why their relationship was so serious in high school and how close they were other than just alluding to it. Like, girl is 30 years old and she's still hung up on her ex from 12 years ago? Also, I will just say it but their 10 year reunion disagreement: Lana was completely in the wrong and she has no leg to stand on.
I also thought the premise was fun at first, but I felt like there were missed opportunities for even more shenanigans or angst. I felt like the angst was short lived and by the 50% point we knew exactly what would happen.
While I didn't LOVE it, I also didn't aggressively dislike it. It was still a quick read and again, I felt like this was a better example of a second-chance romance in that trope category and for that, I will most likely continue to read Falon's works.
This a classic workplace enemies to lover story in the vein of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
It was enjoyable and had the right amount of heat.
Loved this book it was such a fun read!! I loved the office romance and second chance romance put together into one story. The competion Lana and Seth was funny but unrealistic at times. Their boss made it seem reasonable though. Overall I was impressed with the storyline and recommend this to anyone who loves a good second chance romance. I was giving this e-arc for free in exchange for an honest review.
Such an easy, great read! A happy ending is guaranteed and it kept me on my toes! 10/10 The characters are well written and the plot was easy to hang on to!
This was my first Falon Ballard book and it won't be my last. I love this book from start to finish. An enemies to loves troupe, which I'm usually a fan of. A fun and charming romance with great character development. I loved the two main characters as a couple and equally as individuals. Gave me "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days' vibes and I'm a fan!
I ADORED THIS BOOK! Falon can do no wrong. I adored watching our two main characters grow both separately and together, and I just loved seeing them come back together! The whole concept of Lana having to learn to be single and Seth having to learn how to be in a long term relationship was incredible and so well done. This really contributed to watching them improve upon themselves SO THAT THE COULD EVENTUALLY BE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER! Yet again, I adored this book and would recommend all of Falon's books to anyone looking for a feel good, happy romance!
Why did I wait this long to read this book! A charming novel about two writers pitted against each other fighting for their dream job. And oh yeah, they happen to be exes with a long history!
Ballard captivated me with the characters in this book. They were relatable and I appreciated the growth for each of them by the end of the book.
Thank you G.P. Putnam’s Sons and Netgalley for the digital ARC of Just My Type by Falon Ballard.
Thank you NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for access to this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
What a cute rom com! I loved the reference to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. It helped make the premise of the contest feel fun and less contrived.
I deducted stars because I don’t love when authors use text messages and chats in books. Mentioning Slack channels specifically will date this book quickly.
This was so fun and exactly what I needed. It was perfectly romantic, had all the perfect tropes- enemies to lovers, second chance romance, work competitors-, and had such fun characters. It was light hearted and happy, and filled with a bunch of fun references for the nerd me. Sometimes it was predictable, but sometimes that's the appeal of a romance story! Overall, an enjoyable read that I would quickly recommend.
