Miss Falon knows how to communicate with fans of the Marvel universe. She has an informal way of conveying her words to her readers (more like a friend), Ballard has a comforting tone to her writing, which most of the readers are accustomed to, and therefore they will enjoy reading this banter-filled, rivals to lovers and second chance romedy.
The main lead and the love interest stole my heart and made me fall deeply for writing even more. Lana’s passion for writing, her journey to find herself, and Seth’s passion for finding her. They also made me feel extremely lonely, because when am I having my academic rivals to lovers where the guy has been secretly rooting for me all along? I hope that it’s soon.
The pleasure of knowing that the lovebirds would end up together and live happily ever after. This is why I would recommend this to the ones who love love, angst, jealousy trope, second chance, and much more.

This book was endlessly cute! Lana Parker is having a nightmare week. She’s dumped by her long term boyfriend (on what she expected to be her engagement night!) and sees her high school sweetheart in her office the next day. Her ex boyfriend, Seth Carson, who is supposed to live across the country still, thank you very much. Her (their?) boss pits them against each other in a workplace competition that borders on inappropriate, and the winner gets their own column to write about their passions.
Lana is known for jumping from one long term relationship to the next and Seth hasn’t stayed in one place long enough to settle down for the past 12 years. For the next 10 weeks, Lana has to stay single and embrace being on her own while Seth is bound to an oath of abstinence and the task of finding someone with long term potential. They’re each assigned a list of 10 tasks ranging from going to therapy, trying speed dating, and adopting a pet. Each week, they’ll publish an article about their progress and how that weeks tasks went. At the end of the ten weeks, the readers will pick a winner and they can each go on their separate ways. Right?
This was a super cute second chance romance, exes turned workplace rivals easy read! I loved Lease on Love and Falon Ballard did not disappoint with Just My Type!
Super thanks to Netgalley and G.P. Putnam’s Sons for the opportunity to review!
Wow, this was such a sweet romance. The enemies/rivals to lovers/second-chance romance was executed so well and I was rooting for Lana and Seth from the beginning. Lana grew as a character and became so sure of herself, which made me swoon! The characters individual growth was the perfect set-up for their eventual love proclamation. The tension throughout the story was so addicting and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for these two to finally get together. I've been in a slump with romances and this was modernly perfect and helped me fall in love with romance again.
An enjoyable read that is both second chance at love and enemies to lovers. A nice escape over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Wow, what an incredible second novel from Falon Ballard! I adored her debut, Lease on Love, and Just My Type hit the spot! Ballard’s voice is so clear and there are so many real-world lessons to be learned here. If you enjoy romcoms, you should definitely pick this one up!
4.5/5 stars, rounded up to 5 stars for NetGalley’s rating system
TROPES ✨
- office rivalry
- rivals to lovers
- second chance romance
HIGHLIGHTS ✨
- Ballard’s writing feels like a warm hug. It’s real, funny, and inviting. I couldn’t put this down! (Literally — it’s 2:15 am and I had to finish this before I went to bed.)
- Lana is a strong FMC who is so relatable. I saw a lot of myself in Lana, and I feel validated with some of the struggles with we shared. If Lana can come out on top, so can I :)
- Seth was an amazing complement to Lana. Their chemistry was obvious from their first interaction, and their attraction kept me in a tight grip. I was rooting for them the whole time! I also appreciate that Seth is a multidimensional MMC, not just some fan-service-type eye candy. We need relatable MMCs too, and so I’m very grateful that Ballard delivered!
- While found family was not the focus of this book, I really appreciated that Lana had a strong support group. May in particular felt like a real friend and I found myself drawn to her the entire novel. She was honest, snarky, and hilarious. I loved her!
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ebook ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
This was about a solid 3 stars for me for most of the book until the last third which bumped it up to 4. I loved following Lana as she learns how to be romantically independent for essentially the first time in her life. My favorite part of the book were her therapy sessions that pointed out multiple threads of inappropriate boundaries that Lana had let slide, something I very much related with. Seth felt a little two dimensional to me which isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it really let this book feel like Lana’s story. I could’ve done without the multitude of Marvel Cinematic Universe references, and I wish the past conflict with Seth would have been fleshed out/explained more because it made her hatred of him when they reconnected seem misplaced the entire book. I thought the end tied up nicely though with Lana asserting boundaries and learning she can still have love and work on herself.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I could not put this book down. Maybe that’s because I love How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (“I’ gonna make you wish you were dead. 🙃”). One of the best romcoms, no doubt. And Just My Type has a similar premise—Two writers pitted against each other for an advancement in their careers, undeniable chemistry, and delightful banter. Except in this case, our MCs are exes.
And to add frosting to the cake, let’s throw in enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, toxic relationships, second chance romance, and a stellar side cast.

This is a new to me author and I have to say I am looking forward to reading more by this author! I loved this book
I devoured this book in less than 4 hours. Second chance romances are my favorite troupe however, when I found out that Lana was a serial monogamist, I thought it was going to be ruined for me but oh no!! The way Falon Ballard writes an ensemble cast I have yet to find an author do it like her. With this book and her debut book she does it the same way, it's the found family trope that lures you in and makes you fall in love with everyone in the book. I am deeply invested in each and every character now.
Now when it comes to the 2 main characters you mainly go and watch Lana on this journey of trying to be on her own but when she comes to the realization in the end it's just beautiful. I love the normalization of therapy by both characters in the book, really every character in the book and how they mentioned it would be beneficial for everyone. I loved the banter between the 2 characters, I loved the romance, the friendships, there was not one thing I did not love about this book.

Thanks to Net Galley for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review as always all words are my own.
I will start by saying that Falon Ballard’s writing is excellent. Her characters- Seth, Lana, and the friend group- are all well-developed, likable, fictional human beings. Each one of them is relatable in their own right. I loved the beginning of this book- the “Legally Blonde” of it all really sucked me in. The reappearance of Lana’s first, and only real, love was exciting. The setup of competition between Lana & Seth gave me the tension I needed to keep going. But nearly every moment of this book felt familiar. Whether it was the fact that basically the entire storyline was pulled from “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days”, the quirky Marvel references (which I understood because I’ve seen the movies, but anyone who’s clueless about the MCU will be a bit confused by), or the “Pretty Woman” shopping trip, I couldn’t help but be a little bored. Of course, it’s a romance, so it comes with some level of predictability. I just wasn’t surprised by anything in the entire novel, and that was disappointing for me.
In this second chance romance, former high school sweethearts, Lana Parker and Seth Carson are pitted against each other for a dream job (especially for Lana). It's not just any competition but one that has to deal with each of their dating life.
It is an odd setup, but it worked for this book. I enjoyed Lana and Seth both individually and together. Lana's journey was more personal (plus this book is told from her point of view, so that helps). It seemed that she really found herself during the story. Seth seemed like he was a much more mature version of himself, who did a lot of self discovery off the page. Together, their chemistry was fun, sassy, and definitely present. They had great banter and I looked forward to their tasks as they worked through them. Plus the group Slack messages were great.
Props to Falon Ballard for the big confession moments! They were not over the top, but were completely charming. I was glad the book wasn't super corny.
If you are looking for a second chance that is funny, charming, and also a women's fiction book, check this out February 7, 2023. This is definitely worthy of your TBR list.

So many great reviews for this one and I'm not even surprised. I loved this. It was swoony and humorous and everything you expect from a romance.
This book was a super cute, super fast paced read for me. Very "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" vibes, but with an exes to lovers trope/twist. I enjoyed the snarky banter between the FMC and MMC, but I feel like the whole book was just them fighting, until they weren't and the HEA felt very rushed.
I did love that both MC's had to grow through what they went through in order to make their relationship work. It wasn't an insta-fall back in love book, they both had to work on themselves first, alone, before they could make it work together.
I do wish we had gotten to read both of their weekly articles, I feel like it would have given them both more depth and would have made the HEA a lot less rushed feeling.
Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Group Putnam, and Falon Ballard for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is set to release on February 7, 2023!

I’ve been a Falon Ballard stan since the first page of Lease on Love and Just My Type does NOT disappoint. I will preface my review with saying that it’s a perfectly millennial second chance romance, so if that isn’t your vibe, you probably shouldn’t pick it up. BUT if you like high school sweethearts with tension and want a good cry (lol) queen up You’re On Your Own Kid by Taylor Swift and cozy in to read this book.

Just My Type introduces us to Lana as she’s being dumped, publicly, Legally Blonde style, for the fourth time by a serious boyfriend. She thought she’d be getting engaged but her now-ex couldn’t handle her “mommy issues” and didn’t think they’d actually have a future together. Lana proceeds to black out with her best friend to wake up the next morning, drag herself into work, and find that “the one that got away,” her ex-high school sweetheart, is working at the same publication she is… and they’re competing for a job.
-
First, the “bad,” which I want to get out of the way quickly because I chose to ignore it. Lana is a fangirl which I love, respect, and appreciate, but more than once, it was mentioned that her clothes had Avengers or Star Wars paraphernalia on them which was kind of an ick for me. The other thing that troubled me a *bit* was that what happened at their high school reunion was hyped up and ended up being… not much. I won’t spoil what does happen but my mind was running crazy with ideas and to find out that it was pretty tame was a bit of a disappointment.
-
Now that the literal only two things I didn’t love about this book are out of the way, let me wax poetic on how this book made me SOB. SOB, I TELL YOU!!!! FALON, I’M SENDING YOU MY THERAPY BILL! Lana doesn’t know how to be alone (relatable) so is tasked with 10 to-dos that are supposed to help her on her journey. The thing is… she does know how to be alone, she just chooses to live for other people. This gutted me because 1, how relatable and RUDE of Falon to write me into a book without my permission but 2, we don’t see this actually expanded upon honestly in books.
-
Seth… sweet Seth. The money I would pay to be inside this man’s HEAD! I get why this was single POV and honestly it was a rare instance where I prefer it that way, but I just KNOWWWWW what he was thinking watching Lana kiss someone at the bar and I wish I could’ve read his thoughts too! He is such a good, sweet, tender, completely unrealistic because he’s so perfect book boyfriend.

Falon - I’m yet again staking my claim in your fan club. Hell of a second book!

Oooh my gosh, where to start? First, I love the different tropes happening throughout this book. Lana Parker was relatable in so many ways, and what's wrong with wanting the comfort of being in a relationship? I loved the journey her character went through and the strength she found at the very end. The banter between Seth and Lana was so fun, and I especially loved the epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter- making it so fun to read and engaging.
The storyline was also amazing, you went through a journey with each of these characters (including the sub-characters friends/coworkers) they were all great. It gave me "How to lose a guy in 10 days", "When Harry Met Sally" and "Legally Blonde" vibes- so adorable!
I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a romance to lift your spirits and make you happy. 5 Stars for me and looking forward to more from Falon Ballard.
This rom-com was so much fun. I liked the concept that they each had to do some soul-searching to explore why they had a particular "dating-type", but the ending was very sweet and worth the wait.
After pushing it off for so long, I finally stayed up till midnight finishing this book. I adored Ballard's Lease on Love and was so excited when it was announced she was publishing another. Just My Type did not disappoint. Gave me the vibes of How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days with a modern twist. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it to other lovers of contemporary romance but I just wasn't wowed. There was something that I needed more from it. I love Lana and Seth separate but when together I needed more fight, more hot tension, more I really hate you but I really don't. I almost wanted them to make me believe they weren't going to get back together, it just seemed too easy. I also would have loved if we were able to actually read the articles they published, might have added to more character development. But it was a good story and although I didn't love it, I liked it and looking forward to see if Ballard has anything else up her sleeves.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
We LOVE a strong, independent female character! I absolutely loved the main character’s personal growth throughout the story. This sophomore book from Falon Ballard has all the things I love in a good romance read: fell in love at a young age, but then drifted apart, then enemies to lovers. Ah! The ending really pulled at my heartstrings and I found it such a sweet read.
Listen, I love a reunion story!!! Falon Ballard writes this type of book so well. You know exactly what you're getting -- a sweet, sometimes frustrating, romantic comedy.
The shift from exes to lovers was done so well, and it was truly enjoyable all around. I really loved the scenes where we get to learn a little bit more about how far they've come and seeing the growth they have throughout the book.
4/5 stars for me.

While I am wholly turned off by Girl Boss culture, Falon Ballard's works still have a way of endearing me. I really enjoyed Just My Type, an even better follow up to Ballard's Lease on Love, has all the same vibes but much, much more pining. It's an incredible, quick (so quick! you'll blink and it's over!) read that you won't want to miss.
