This was a fun story, and I liked the second chance romance which isn't usually my favorite. There was more swearing and language than I prefer in my books but overall I enjoyed it.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
Thank Thor I’m finally done with that.
It breaks my heart to say this because Lease on Love was one of my top books of last year, but this book was painful to read. While I enjoyed the overall story, it needed some serious editing. The constant Avengers/Star Wars/pop culture references made this feel painfully Millennial (which I am) and I feel it’s going to cause the book to both age poorly and alienate readers. You can write a nerdy character without being so over the top.
Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy!
If you liked How to Lose a Guy in 10 days, you will love this one. Similiar concept of two writers in a competition against each other, but this time they have a past....They were each others high school sweethearts. They were tasked with creating a ten item list for each other, whoever gets the most comments/likes will win a writing role at the Chronicle. We watch as the two work to complete their lists, often times involving each other per the guidance of their boss. Watch as these two reconnect...learn about themselves and each other.
This book is an HR nightmare, and breaks every sexual harassment rule there is. I totally get where the author was trying to go with it, but holy smokes. Your job can’t force you to have a one night stand in order to continue working for them 🙄
I feel really morally conflicted with this one. I love Ballards previous book, but this one was really hard for. Her friends and coworkers and boss were so abusive, and there were no healthy relationships in sight.
I will absolutely read her next book, because I can see how much her writing is improving, but this one was such a miss for me.
This was so cute and so meh at the same time, it's so hard to rate! On one hand, I loved the characters, the writing was sound, and the pacing was great. On the other, the near constant pop culture references ("Thank Loki"? really?) were intensely grating for me. That and the "best friend heart-to-heart solves all your problems trope. There was just no need for it - our leads are in therapy! I understand the value of a friend's perspective, but to have that conversation kick off the entire resolution? It was lazy considering this was a story about introspection and learning who you are alone. I was rooting for Lana to really draw her own conclusions and make up her own mind, but her answers were spoon fed to her by her (admittedly well developed) supporting cast. Overall it was a pleasant read and a cute story, but the eye rolling and disappointments put it in the middle of the road for me.
**Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam/ G.P. Putnams' Sons for the eARC**
This was cute but I couldn’t connect to the story. I had a hard time with the main character. She was too immature and annoying. The romance was sweet.
I enjoyed this one! Enemies to lover is my favorite tropes and this one delivered. It was sprinkled with a second chance and childhood friendship trope as well. This was a light hearted humorous, and slow burn quick read. Lana and Seth's dynamic was perfection. There was so much built up passion and tension and the chemistry was fire. Falon Ballard has quickly become one of my favorite romance authors. She knows how to captivate the read and keep them reading until the very end. I wish I could have gotten to know Seth a little more and wouldn't have been upset with a little more 🌶. But ultimately would recommend reading this book if you are looking for a fun rom-com.

Huge thank you to Penguin Group and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lana and Seth are writers, exes, and enemies. Seth broke Lana’s heart not once, but twice in the decade plus that they have known each other and now he’s back in her life and ready to take her job. Kinda.
Lana’s boss has concocted a plan to up readership and clicks at the digital news outlet they work for by putting Lana and Seth head to head for the same job and making them write about it. The twist? Lana and Seth both have to create tasks for each other that help “always in a relationship” Lana learn how to be single and “forever a bachelor” Seth learn to be the perfect partner.
This gave me all the How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days vibes and I was here for it! The history between Lana and Seth made the story extra sweet and believable and I just loved experiencing the tasks with the characters.
Falon’s first book, Lease on Love, was such a gem and this one of right up there with it. I highly recommend.
I really enjoyed Lease on Love and loved this book just as much! I loved that both of the main characters stood their ground and found success outside of the toxic situation they were in. Like most rom-coms , it was predictable, but it still drew me in.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Recently dumped, Lana Parker has been the relationship columnist for the trendy online magazine she works at for eight years now. When Seth Carson, the one who got away (twice) shows up as the new employee at her work she’s furious. To make matters worse, her boss decides to create a competition to determine who will get a new column: Lana will complete ten tasks that teach her to be okay with singleness while Seth will complete ten tasks that prepare him for a long term relationship. Through these tasks, Lana will learn a lot about herself. And come to term with some buried feelings for Seth.
I read this book in a day. It was that good and intriguing. The chemistry and banter between Lana and Seth was golden. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Lana at first. I felt like early on she was constantly on the defensive, but she had been hurt and I think we ourselves go on the defense when we’re trying to keep our y’all’s up. I really felt like Lana didn’t constantly try to lie her way around how she was feeling, but recognized a lot of truths and shared them, whether with her therapist, her friends, or her kickboxing instructor. I loved seeing the things that Lana learned about herself through this whole experiment, and I think it showed that it’s always good to take some time for yourself, try some new things, and spend some time searching your heart. Seth’s character was also great, and I loved that even though he had his reasons for things he did, he understood that he could have handled things differently.
I also really loved the majority of the side characters in this. Lana’s coworkers were so fun and I loved their Slack channel chats.
This is a great second chance romance. The author rights a super engaging read that will have you sucked in from the beginnings. I enjoyed watching this whole story unfold and this book gave me so many feels. The ending was so sweet and wonderful and made me so stinking happy.
🔥🔥🔥Open Door Romance
This was a very sweet romcom. I loved the banter and chemistry between the main characters. It's a friends to lovers to enemies to lovers. I really like it.
Thank you NetGalley and Putnam Books for allowing me to read this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review
what a fun second novel! a solid 4!
i was nervous about this one as the synopsis didn’t have me 100% there but that’s similarly how i felt about falon ballard’s first novel, Lease on Love, and i loved her first book! ballard has a way of writing warm stories on love with an equal amount of reflection and growth that i really appreciate.
lana and seth are both main leads you’re rooting for who has a past and also have things to work on for their futures to move on. there wasn’t just sweet words said that cured everything and i appreciate when authors are able to write realistic solutions (therapy mainly) into these stories. lana was a character i was invested in and was so happy to watch her grow into someone who was better by the end of it.
i love a second chance trope and this one had me good. i was trying to predict what thing would happen and i’m so glad i wasn’t right. the book was sweet and thoughtful and i adored the tenderness of the second chance with the hint of enemies to lovers. that’s what it’s all about!!!
thank you to the publisher and netgalley for this arc in return for an honest review!

This book. I am in love.
Just My Type follows Lana, a journalist with a dating column, following an Elle Woods-esque breakup. The next day, she walks into the office to find her ex-boyfriend joining the team. Oh. And her boss is pitting the two against each other in a dating competition a la How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Serial monogamist Lana will have to remain single while Seth will have to look for something long term. All the while avoiding their feelings for each other.
First of all, the plot was amazing. The writing was amazing. The characters both main and secondary were amazing. The side plots were ridiculously amazing. Everything was amazing,
The character development was one of my favorite parts. Lana has been in serious relationship after serious relationship. Her growth as she learned how to be single was inspiring. She also had issues with her mother in the beginning of the book and I loved that this wasn't glossed over. She actively worked to fix the relationship and had the tough conversations about her feelings.
Seth is my dream boyfriend. He's ridiculously supportive of Lana and I am obsessed with the scene in the bar when he gets jealous. I will never be able to think about sunflowers without remembering this book. I love him so much.
Do yourself a favor and read this book. I promise you won't regret it.
As a writer myself, I enjoyed reading this a lot! I think the concept is fun and very rom-com, which is always a favorite. It was funny and adorable, and very memorable.
Just My Type is a hilarious rom com where Lana is pitted against her ex, Seth, in a writing competition for the chance to win their own column, write about any topic they choose, and challenge themselves. I really enjoyed this storyline and all of the characters involved! The writing was fantastic, and the banter between Lana and Seth kept drawing me in. I love some good banter! It was a heartwarming story not only about romantic relationships, but also about creating a better relationship with yourself. It included a workplace romance, rivals to lovers, and second chance romance so really how could you not love it? The spice was well-written and not cringey, and the sunflowers were just the sweetest thing ever! If you know then you know! I highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun romance with comedy, self discovery, and a second chance at love. I especially loved the therapy aspect and it’s something I’d love to see more of in romance novels. My only complaint is that the miscommunication aggravated me at some points because I was just thinking in my head, “Omg just talk to each other!” I also think Lana maybe held too much of a grudge on the encounter from the reunion because Seth was just being a decent guy. Those things didn’t take away from the story though and I thought it was fantastic!
4.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me a copy of this book!
“Just My Type” - 3.5 stars, rounded up.
Serial monogamist Lana Parker has had one disastrous long term relationship after another. After her latest breakup the last thing she expected was for her first love to come walking into her place of employment and compete against her for a long-coveted spot as a columnist.
I have to admit it took most of the book to start rooting for the main character, Lana. She moved to LA for college, but 8 years later her career has stalled. She has a blog, but only showed it to friends. She moved from one relationship to another. She had plateaued. It wasn’t until a man from her past came along and put her world in a tailspin that she moved out of her comfort zone and started to grow. I love a HEA as much as the next person, and I guess that 12 years was enough time for the main characters to long after each other, but I would have liked for her to really grow more on her own, outside of the relationships / men that she used to define herself.
Side-note: I would love to read a book about a couple of the supporting characters, Rob and Tessa. I think there is definitely more to explore there!
Ohhh my god!! This was a very sweet, swoon worthy and cute romcom. The story was simple, the characters were adorable and I found the get enough of them. I definitely see myself shelving it as a “comfort read”. Undoubtedly it was a full 5 stars read for me

Lana Parker is a writer for an online publication. She's in charge of the dating/relationship column. She's about to go on a date with her long-term boyfriend. Shes thinking he will be proposing but instead he breaks up with her. She is upset and gets very drunk with her best friend May. The next day at work, very hungover. She finds herself face to face with her ex-boyfriend Seth Carson. Her boss comes up with a plan to get more clicks on the website. It's kind of like how to lose a guy in 10 days ish. Lana has to stay single for 10 weeks and Seth has to try a long term relationship.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the banter between Seth and Lana. I'm a big fan of the author. I liked that both characters went to therapy.
Okay - this books was so freaking cute and funny, and I was swooning for Seth LOL.
Without giving too much away - Just My Type follows the relationship of Lana and Seth. Who were each others first loves and high school sweethearts until their break up right before college. 12 years later and Seth arrives in LA, where Lana has been residing in since college and then commences strangers/enemies to lovers. Seth is also a writer who ends up partnering with Lana’s company and ultimately they end up in a competition where Lana must remain single (being the serial monogamist she is) and Seth must find someone who is “long term relationship” worth (after being a womanizer).
The events that follow will make you laugh, swoon, and cry (because I sure as hell did after Lana’s second to last task on her list).
I truly enjoyed this read, and have enjoyed Fallon’s other book, Lease on Love as well. Thank you NetGalley, and Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this as an ARC reader!
5/5!
This book was a lot of fun and I had a hard time putting it down! I really loved Lana and enjoyed watching her character growth through the book. The side characters were also great! Although the premise isn’t all that realistic, I thought it was entertaining and a great set up for a rom com.
I’m not usually a fan of second chance romances because I feel like there is usually either a lot of miscommunication or the couple broke up for good reasons and they have no business getting back together lol. There was a good amount of miscommunication in Just My Type and for characters who are both going to therapy, they could be very immature. However, I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers and I thought the banter was well done, so that saved this book for me! I also really wish we had Seth’s POV because he seemed to do 180s between what he was saying and what he was doing frequently, so I probably would have liked him better if we also got his thought process.
Overall I definitely recommend this to rom com lovers and I’m excited to read more from this author!
