Heart eyes! 😍😍😍 All the heart eyes! I am so glad I picked this one to read after a string of thrillers and murdery books. It was sweet and tiny bit spicy, and I loved that the story is based on writers and their work. It was adorable - and the epilogue made me swoon!! 🥰 I am here for Lana and Seth and their love story. This one is a winner!

I ADORED this book. Seth and Lana had such great banter, and their rivalry with each other was hilarious without ever crossing over into being outright hateful.
The character development and growth throughout the story is incredible, and I loved seeing both characters grow individually and how that impacted their relationship together.
Much like Ballard's first novel, the friendships in this book are top tier as well. I loved Lana's group of friends!

I did think some of the writing was a little overdone, especially all of the Marvel references, but other than that I loved it. Falon Ballard has become an auto-buy author for me for sure!

Things I loved:
-Second chance romance
-Enemies to lovers
-Sunflowers
-Great banter

Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Group - Putnam, and Falon Ballard for an advanced copy of this book!

One of my favorite tropes coming into play here are enemies to lovers/second chance romance. This story begins with a relationship-prone journalist named Lana who never got over her first love and broke her heart twice: Seth. After getting dumped by her long-time boyfriend when she thought he was going to propose she gets drunk and wouldn’t you know she gets a message from Seth saying they need to talk. She ignores the message just like anyone who is trying to move on does. After waking up she runs to her company meeting to find out that they will be hosting a competitor journalist to get more readers. The competition is simple Lana gets to be single and the competitor has to settle down. That sounds like a great plan until he walks in. Yes him the ex she has been avoiding since he broke her heart; Seth. This book has all the makings of the movie: How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days”. This sounds simple but as they work together attraction starts to form again and the more they resist the worse it becomes. Lana wants to come out on top but she starts to hope for a second chance. I love this book and give it a 5 out of 5.

Falon Ballard made me feel identified with this book 100%. Lana Parker is a writer that has “issues” staying single, that’s said by her friends and work colleagues. And because of that, Lana enters a competition with her ex (Seth), who is a writer as well. in this story, Lana goes through a mayor breakthrough and learns some things about herself and at the same time heals her relationship with her mom. I have to say that this book reminds me a lot of things about myself. Also, her therapy sessions remind me a lot about my sessions. It’s a great book if you want to have a laugh but to also cry. The love story that you will experience here will keep your eyes on the book/or the screen. I haven’t read Falon’s first book but now I definitely will. Lana and Seth won a place in my heart.

I really enjoyed this book! Lana and Seth's story was such a classic tale. Girl meets boy and falls in love, They break up, then they are reunited years later in a race to the finish line at work. I loved the details of their story and enjoyed getting to know the host of characters used to support the book. I cannot wait to read another story by Falon Ballard.

I absolutely loved this book. I’m not a big fan on second chance romances because sometimes it’s too cringey or I fall for the characters in the past but not the present time. However I loved this book so much, and I love how the trope was done. I thought Lana & Seth were perfect for each other and I swooned so hard. I also really loved the growth that Lana went through in the 10 weeks, realizing she doesn’t need a man by her side: but also realizing that even when she did have one that she was strong and always took care of herself and for herself where she needed to be. Another thing I really enjoy is the side characters. Sometimes they are really hit or miss but Falons are always a hit. They add so much more to the story, a perfect balance of real life. I loved her first book, I loved the second book and I’m sure I’ll love anything else she writes.

I really really enjoyed this book! At first I was a little annoyed at the constant anger Lana had towards Seth right off the bat - but as the story progressed that turned into an understanding of what she has gone through over the past 12 years. I really liked Lana’s story of self discovery, learning self love and how much her character changed for the better by the end of the book.

wo exes, one competition for a prize job, and a history of misunderstanding and heartbreak. Lana Parker has gone from bad relationship to bad relationship and after her most recent break up ( in which she thought she was going to be proposed to but was instead dumped) both her friends and coworker bring to her attention just how much of a serial monogamist she is. She keeps dating mediocre boyfriend after mediocre boyfriend and it all stems back to the one that got away... and the one that broke her heart... twice, the big high school ex, Seth Carson. Seth Carson was her one, and then he suddenly dumped her out of nowhere and she has been seething with hatred ever since. But to her complete shock he is suddenly in LA and applying for her dream job... because he has spent years traveling the world as a freelance journalist and having dating girl after girl. Now Lana’s boss creates a competition: Lana has to write about being single and staying single while Seth has to write and learn about learning to settle down and become boyfriend material... and to throw another wrench into the situation they’ll have to spend copious amounts of time together. What could go wrong? Except the fact that they have a long history of pain and misunderstanding and spending time together forces them to face those things and get down to what really happened to their relationship and what it means for how they feel about each other now. Unfortunately for me this book was a miss, I just couldn’t see the chemistry between Seth and Lana and honestly hoped they would both find someone else rather than get back together after reading about their history and their misunderstandings. I just didn’t get their relationship and wasn’t really invested in their romance or them getting back together. Lana thinks Seth rejected her and dumped her and that he was finished with her while Seth is just horrible at communicating with her and they just go back and forth the entire book. Seriously, it just wasn’t working for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Absolutely in love with this book. I didn't want to stop reading once I started. From the very beginning I was hooked. Ballard has an exceptional way about her writing that just grabs on and doesn't let go until the very end. I am always down for a second chance romance, especially one with human encapsulated in there as well. 5 stars all around and would 100% recommend to anyone.

⭐️Book Review⭐️

5/5

I absolutely devoured this book. Like. Could. Not. Put. It. Down. I related so, so much to Lana and enjoyed her journey in getting to know herself. The emotions in this book are so well-written that you feel them with your whole chest - the sadness, the love, the longing, the PINING - all of it beautifully written.

If you need a feel-good romance with well developed characters to make you feel ALL the feels, this if it.

Release date: February 7, 2023

Who doesn't love an ememies to lovers romcom? I certainly do, and this one has an epic twist. Lana and Seth were high school sweethearts, and when they went to college they tried their hardest to make it work long distance. Well, life happened, and let's just say those feelings of love quickly turn to hate. After an awkward encounter at their high school reunion, they are just seething with hate. They go their separate ways, both never looking back. Again, life has other plans, and life decided to throw these two back together. When Seth shows up at Lana's job for an online publication, things are about to explode.

This book is funny, anxiety enducing (in a good way!), and clever. The drama is fleshed out so well. The relationships between all characters, not just between Lana and Seth, are so realistic, you feel like your spying on a group of best friends. You will not regret picking up this cute read, and get ready for the giggles!

I think I loved Just My Type even more than Lease in Love! Former high school sweethearts pushed back together competing for a job, Lana is supposed to stay single, while Seth finds someone to settle down with. They both complete tasks crafted by the other, forced to deal with their baggage and feelings for each other. I really loved the epilogue.

How cute was this book!!
I loved how natural the interactions felt between the mane characters as they fell back in love.
I typically don't go for a second chance romance but THIS BOOK has changed that up for sure, Can't wait to see what else Falon Ballard has in stock for readers in the future.

Gosh, why was this SO MUCH FUN??

Second chance romance + enemies to lovers + he falls first = Just My Type

For the first half of the book you’ll be like, “oh cool, rivalry/competition shenanigans are always a good laugh”, but for the second half you’ll be like “oh wow, the feels really got me in the solar plexus.”

Lana Parker knows that she and Evan do not really make a good couple and that their relationship should not have lasted four years. However, when Evan plans dinner at the restaurant where they had their first date, Lana is expecting a proposal, not a break-up. Making things worse, while Lana and her best friend May are drowning her misery in alcohol, ice cream and rom-coms, Lana receives an Instagram DM from Seth Carson, her high school sweetheart and the source of her first catastrophic breakup, stating they need to talk. The last time they talked, at their ten-year high school reunion, Lana had her heart crushed again. Imagine her surprise and anger when at a mandatory work meeting the next day (during which she has to relive the embarrassment of last night, as her coworkers expected her to be engaged as well), Seth shows up. Lana writes a relationship column for a web magazine called Always Take Foundation (ATF); the irony is not lost on Lana and her coworkers/friends, that the relationship column is written by someone who has had a series of disastrous relationships. Seth is also a journalist, although his stories are much more serious in nature, and he has applied for a job with the Los Angeles Chronicle, which has just acquired ATF. The Chronicle wants him to work with ATF to see if he can transition to more of a lifestyle brand.

Natasha has already told Lana that she wants Lana's next project to be writing about being single. She has watched Lana go from one mediocre boyfriend to the next, with barely any break between the end of one relationship and the start of another, and she wants Lana to explore being single and get to know herself better and why she falls into such bad relationships. However, when Natasha learns about the previous connection between Lana and Seth, as well as Seth's reputation as a serial dater, she comes up with the idea of staging a competition between the two of them, with the winner, who will be chosen by the readers, receiving a column in the Chronicle. Natasha sees this as an opportunity to bring a lot of traffic to ATF. Over the next ten weeks, Lana and Seth each have to complete ten tasks and write articles about each task. Lana's tasks, which will be chosen by Seth, are designed to push her to explore single life, while Seth's tasks, chosen by Lana, are designed to help prepare him for a long-term relationship.

Lana has so much anger and resentment at Seth that she struggles to be in the same room with him or speak civilly towards him, which results in the competition getting off to a rather rocky start (which is great for ATF, as everyone enjoys watching a trainwreck). Natasha, wanting to push up the "clicks", requires Lana to assist Seth with some of his tasks (with Instagram posts to go along with it), and arranges for Seth to participate in some of Lana's tasks. As the competition progresses and Seth and Lana are required to spend more time together, they finally discuss their past, and realize the significant misunderstandings and misjudgments that led to the end of their relationship and their current animosity.

The author has created a great supporting cast with Lana's best friend May and Lana's ATF coworkers. Their conversations and interactions, whether in person or online, are quite amusing. They are supportive of Lana but yet willing to call her out on her behavior and push her to be a better version of herself. Some of the tasks turn out to be quite amusing. Over the course of the story, Lana will gain a better understanding of herself, realizing that she has the strength to be alone.

I received a copy of the e-book via NetGalley in exchange for a review.

Gah, I loved this book!

Lana and Seth were once high school sweethearts. After their romance ended, Lana jumped from one long term relationship to another. When Seth appears in town - and at her office - after another of her disastrous break-ups, the two are forced to both face off professionally and face old feelings.

This story was told with both humor and heart. I love a good second chance romance and this hit all the right notes! Plus 🔥!

Thank you NetGalley and Random Housing Penguin for the ARC of Just My Type.

Falon Ballard is such a talented storyteller. This is her second book and I felt just as pulled in as I did the first time. She paints a beautiful setting and develops flawed characters deserving of love and change.

I found Lana so annoying in the beginning that I considered putting it down but I kept my faith in Falon’s ability and kept going. While I didn’t fall in love with her as a character, I did build empathy for her experiences and was rooting for her in the end.

This book deals with parent-adult child relationships and attachment. It resonated closely to my own experience but it landed well as the story is told with love and consideration.

I saw the ending coming but it was better than I imagined (I guess why I’m a reader and not a writer. 🙃). Without spoiling it, the last sentence in each other’s last article was so sweet and adorable.

I recommend this for fans of second chance romances.
