Read if you like:

* Workplace romance
* Enemies-to-lovers

Just My Type is such a fun, feel-good read! I have been putting off the world of second-chance romance for awhile now but this book has definitely encouraged me to read more of them!

Falon Ballard starts this book out STRONG with some timeless pop-culture references that perfectly set the tone for this adorable romantic-comedy. I absolutely loved how Ballard also begun each chapter with a quote from either Lana or Seth’s articles. I though it was a perfect touch that allowed me to further get to know the couples’ individual personalities.

The competition between Lana and Seth takes on a forced-proximity trope that I had so much fun with! This really was my favorite aspect of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed watching how the two of them interpreted their checklists and completed the tasks accordingly. The scene where Seth gets a second fish — it was so funny! And the part where Lana completes her last task….you’ll just have to read the book to see how it plays out! I loved watching how Seth and Lana’s interactions developed throughout the competition. Because of the rivalry, there was SO much organic and flirtatious banter that I simply could not get enough of.

I read this in a matter of hours. I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoyed reading this book! This is a MUST READ for your February TBR!

📚 Lana Parker has never been single for long. After a disastrous break-up with her high school boyfriend, Seth Carson, Lana’s bounced from long-term relationship to long-term relationship. She’s an expert girlfriend, even acting as the resident dating and relationship columnist for one of Los Angeles’s trendiest websites. But now, at the age of thirty, Lana suddenly finds herself single again, and she’s determined to stay that way, no matter how challenging.

That is, until her high school ex, Seth, now a journalist in his own right, takes an assignment at Lana’s site. Ready to put down roots after years of traveling and freelancing, Seth becomes not only Lana’s colleague but also her competitor. With their combative relationship history—and undeniable chemistry—they quickly find themselves pitted against each other in a battle of wits: writing an article series that goes against dating type. For Lana, that means writing about staying single and embracing it. For Seth, it’s learning to settle down and become boyfriend material. Whoever's is most popular wins a highly coveted columnist spot that either could only dream of. But when the two square off against one another, it’s not only their careers on the line—it’s also their hearts.

📝If you liked the movie “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” you will love this book!

Seth and Lana had great chemistry! The tension between them was so intense! I loved how the author gradually uncovered their history throughout the book.

I wanted to read this because it incorporates both enemies to lovers & second chance tropes - my favorite tropes!

This book has me entirely torn. I loved the premise, loved the love, loved the romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the connection (reconnection?) and the pace of the book too. Unfortunately, I'm sober, and the drinking elements of the book really fell flat for me. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free advanced copy.

Thank you Putnam for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. 5 stars for DNF as I cannot comment on the overall quality of the book. I was super excited to read this because once upon a time, I, too, was a journalist. And I'm always a sucker for a dating column storyline. Anyways, please do not let this review discourage you from reading the book, the reason for my DNF are entirely personal. As a loud and proud member of #teamsoberliving, I found the post-break up binge drinking scenes to be a bit too much for me. So consider that a truer warning if you will.

Oh my gosh this was such a cute book! I absolutely adored this, from beginning to end. I feel like the main character was relatable in many ways, I actually really loved the pop culture references, and I just had a really good time. This book is one of those easy, comfortable reads you don’t want to put down!

OKAYYYYYY, this was super cute!

Lana has been in serious relationships from the moment she started dating. Seth, her first love, has been the complete opposite. They’re both writers and Seth moves to LA and ends up in a competition against Lana where he has to do tasks to show he’s ready for a serious relationship while Lana has to learn to be single.

Great side characters. Cute love story. And yay for therapy!

Got an eArc on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! I finished this book in one sitting it was so captivating. Where to begin?

This was my first Fallon Ballard novel, but it certainly won’t be my last. She wrote relatable, lovable characters with an exciting plot. It was a bit predictable, but I prefer that in my rom coms :)!

Lana is a lovable, best-friend-type character. I found myself cheering for her growth and success throughout the whole story, despite not relating to her personality. I just wanted her to face all of her “baggage” and love her best life.

Seth is just a teddy bear and I wanted to hug him throughout the entire book. He is confident and caring and I’m so glad he was a bit more straightforward than his counterpart, even if she wasn’t ready for it.

Overall, I enjoyed every second of this book. I had chest pains when I just wanted these to to make out and say I love you, I tested up when Lana faced her mom and my heart swelled all over again every time her best friends supported and loved her.

Second chance romance, office romance, and a sprinkle of fake dating!

I wanted to love this book so much but I just couldn’t. Seth and Lana’s story looked like it was right up my ally but unfortunately I couldn’t connect with any of the characters and surprisingly found myself hoping the couple would breakup :/.

There was a lot of gaslighting going on, and secrets and miscommunications I couldn’t get over. Not a big fan. However, the ending was GREAT and that epilogue was the cutest.

Thank you NetGalley and Putnam books for the ARC.

Thank you Falon Ballard, Penguin Group Putnam, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Just My Type comes out February 7, 2023.

I really enjoyed reading this book, in fact it took me less than a day to read it. Its is a second chance romance that has the same feeling of How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days but with a spin. It stars hostel highschool exs,Lana and Seth, who are thrusted in a competition to get a writing column at a popular LA newspaper. Lana, who is a serial monogamist, has to do 10 things that help her learn how to be alone. While Seth, a serial dater, has to complete tasks that a man looking for his forever would do. While doing these tasks Lana and Seth are forced to be around one another and on this journey will they discover that the feelings they had for one another never really stopped.

I thought this was a very cute book and I absolutely loved the angst that was in the book. I was rooting for the characters to talk about the past, I just wanted them to work on their feelings so they could be together. I really liked the side characters, I think they added comedy and warmth to the story. I think the only thing I would have wished for is that if it was in dual POV, because I kept thinking that I wanted to know how Seth was feeling. Otherwise I think this is a slightly steamy, cute romance.

This book had everything I love in a lovers to strangers arc. It had the tension and pining, built up over so many years, it had the miscommunications of teenage heartbreak, and it had the endearing qualities that can only come from knowing someone for many years. I think this book is perfect for fans of Beach Read by Emily Henry, or Just Last Night by Mhairi McFarlane.

Just My Type gets 5 stars from me! Falon Ballard’s writing hooked me immediately and I was able to see/imagine the story easily. I love books that draw me in quickly and can be read in 1-3 sittings, especially being a mom of 2 under 2. It was a nice romcom and I loved that the main characters were apart for some time before a happily ever after because… well, that happens in real life!!

Thank you Putnam Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this as an eARC. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to reading more from this author.

Just My Type follows bitter high school exes Lana and Seth who, after being apart for 12 years, become colleagues competing for their own magazine column. They must each complete and write articles about ten personalized tasks; Lana’s will help her learn to be single and Seth’s will teach him how to settle down with one person.

There were certain parts of this book that I really enjoyed. For one, I thought the scenes where Lana and Seth discuss their past and the reasons for their breakup were really well done. Some interactions in the book (particularly when other people are involved) felt really harsh and unnecessary. The one-on-one scenes felt much more natural. Also, I thought Dr. Lawson was the best character in this entire book. Not only does she lead Lana to embark on some really healthy introspection, but I also just love the serious inclusion of a therapist in an otherwise lighthearted novel.

I felt that some elements were a little clunky. For instance, the pop culture references felt forced at times. Also, the dynamic between Lana, Seth, and the rest of the office was super uncomfortable to read. I understand that they were meant to add humor, but I did not find those sections to be entertaining. I also found the entire challenge to be so incredibly ridiculous, and not in a fun way.

This book was enjoyable at times, but also had some issues I am having a hard time looking past. 3 stars.

A new spin on How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, Just My Type was an absolute delight. Main characters with charming quirks and supporting characters that added substance made the storyline charming and fresh. I’ll read this one over and over again!

This book was absolutely incredible!

It reminded me so much of a crossover between The Hating Game and Beach Read!
The characters are so easy to love and the entire book meshed perfectly together.

Absolutely can't wait to recommend this to all my friends!

To start, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

About the story - Lana is a writer who ends up in a competition for her dream job and the competition just happens to be her ex. She has to learn to be alone after being in relationship after relationship.

The book was written from Lana’s point of view and flowed really well and was hard to put down. I really liked reading about writers and the journey of self-discovery.

Thank you to Penguin Group Putnam for the advance copy of Just My Type by Fallon Ballard.

This was an adorable second chance romance with a fun dash of pop culture thrown in. The MC, Lana, is a Marvel-obsessed writer of relationship advice who longs to write about books, movie and pop culture. Lana is thrust into a writing competition with her first love and ex-boyfriend, Seth, and from there the story flows.

This was a sweet story of miscommunication and a second shot at love. I enjoyed watching Lana grow and learn more about herself throughout the story. I found the Marvel references funny, but a bit overdone (and I’m a huge Marvel fan). Seth was a worthy leading man, with his own hang ups to overcome. The supporting work characters were fun and I enjoyed the slack chats.

If you’re looking for a light, sweet read - this will fit the bill.

I’ve learned that second chance romance is not my favorite but I loved the writing style of this book. The banter and humor, alongside tender and heartfelt moments, was very well executed. It gave me “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days” vibes. Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam Books for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Falon Ballard’s debut novel Lease on Love was my top favorite rom-com of 2022! I am so ecstatic to say that once again, Falon knocked my socks off with her latest novel Just My Type! This addictive read centers around Lana Parker as she navigates a new normal after her boyfriend of 4 years breaks-up with her on the same night she though she was getting engaged! Now deciding to put all of her focus on her career, Lana has a very unexpected new co-worker/rival…her high school sweetheart!! Seth and Lana’s relationship ended messy and now 10+ year later the two are working side by side! From this part in the novel I was so excited to see where Falon would take these characters!

Ohhhh my, I adored every page of this novel! So many spots throughout this book I literally laughed out loud, but I love that there was depth packed in as well! I enjoyed the premise and found the entire cast of characters so endearing! Just My Type is a solid and complete 5 star novel that absolutely everyone needs to read! I love Falon Ballard’s writing style—seriously, I am already looking forward to her next book!
