This was a really cute second chance romance. This book was quick paced, funny, and kept me turning the pages. The main characters seemed real and I loved the MC’s friends so much! They really added to the story! This slow burn with all the different tropes was executed really well!

This book had some of my favorite tropes: tropes enemies to lovers, love between rivalries, second chance romance! This one was a fun and quick read for sure. The dynamic between Lana and Seth is VERY swoon worthy and it made me turn into a puddle of mush for sure. It was really entertaining reading/watching the tension between Lana and Seth. It's like I just want to be a fly on the wall with a bucket of popcorn. Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam/ G. P. Putnam’s Sons for this fun ARC because I've had some underwhelming ones lately! Highly recommend!

Second chance romance? ENEMIES TO LOVERS?!?!? y’all, I seriously loved this book so much!! Lana is a writer in LA who has been writing a dating column for 8 years but wants to do more. She has spent her adult life jumping from long term relationship to long term relationship, and after getting dumped, she swears she’s going to stay single. Her boss gives her an opportunity to battle it out for a better job the day after she gets her heart broken… against her ex and first love, Seth. Now Lana has the chance to stay single and win her dream job…. or maybe just win back the man she’s always loved. This book is fun, entertaining, and so so heartwarming. These characters feel so real, and I’m still thinking about this book the next day!! A huge shout out to NetGalley and Putnam Books for the ARC!

I am absolutely, even to this day, obsessed with Lease on Love. I will recommend it to everyone at work, at school, and even on the streets. It is one of my favorite books. I don't know if this quite lived up to that same quality for me. It had a lot of similar components. The friend group was a mix of all kinds of people, but I don't feel like I connected to them as I did in Falon's previous book. Also while I really liked our MC's, something just didn't connect them to me. I don't think this book was as good steam wise as I liked either. The slack convos were sometimes funny, but as this is a key element in Falon's style I wanted more from them as far as the comedic timing and relief. Overall I really enjoyed this work from Falon even though it wasn't as great as her first book. I will continue to support her and read her other books though!

I really enjoyed Lease on Love by Falon Ballard so I was excited to check out Just My Type.

This is a good book but it's kind of mindless, best for beach reads and times when you just want to "zone out."

I kind of had a hard time following the premise and the importance of some of the events in the book but overall it set out what (I believe it) set out to do: appeal to readers who like a good workplace enemies-to-lovers trope. I could have used a bit more character development ... might have helped me to empathize with the MCs and feel a bit more emotionally involved in the story.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advance copy of this e-book in exchange for an honest review!

This book pleasantly surprised me. It took me a minute to get into - with the proposal that was not, and all. However, Lana and Seth had amazing banter, and this was an excellent second (third?) chance romance. I legitimately laughed out loud at many parts, and would read again in a heartbeat.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of the ARC for review.

Just My Type was a fun rom-com that would probably successfully adapt to the big screen if they wanted it to. That being said, it followed a very similar conflict pattern as movies, and for some reason it's less grating to watch that happen than to read it.

This book follows Lana, a serial monogamist and relationship column writer. Her true passions aren't actually writing about relationships, but her boss has strung a promotion over her head for the past eight years and holds out hope that she'll follow through one day. Unfortunately for Lana, her first boyfriend Seth becomes her new coworker, and her boss decides on pitting them against each other for the promotion she desperately wants.

The dynamic between Lana and Seth was fun, and I loved how supportive the people around Lana were. Even when they disagreed with her or could see her true intentions, they still gently guided her to coming to her own conclusions which I think is something I rarely see from supporting characters in novels. I also like that I could root for them to be together because neither of them were necessarily toxic to or for one another, even with their love/hate relationship.

I think that overall everything the author was going for worked, but the end felt kind of rushed and that removed some of my enjoyment of it. I also found that the constant bickering got a little tiring, especially because the reasons for their arguments felt weak at times. This is still 100% a re-read for me at some point in the future, though.

If you loved How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days then you will enjoy this easy read.
Lana Parker is the cute Angeleno who wants her happily ever after. She writes a relationship column offering up her dating woes and love advice. An unexpected breakup with the untimely appearance of her high school sweetheart throw her off-balance and wondering where she went wrong. She has a solid group of friends, a blossoming career and the chance to write about whatever she wants on the horizon, if only she can win a competition against her ex. And that’s just the beginning.

This book has all my favorite tropes all wrapped into one great story! You get friends to lovers, turned enemies - turned work place rivals....then enemies turned to lovers in a second chance romance novel!! What's not to love about that?!

Falon Ballard did an outstanding job at capturing the essence of a story that made you feel like you were right there next to her characters. The banter between the main characters was amazing but all the relationships / friendships with the secondary characters made this such a cute story. You can't help but fall in love with all the characters! This entire book reads like the perfect rom-com, it was comforting and familiar but different at the same time. I loved how easy her writing flowed and how you wanted to keep reading to know what came next. [Which I obviously devoured in a few days]

This follows Lana Parker a romance column writer; A serial monogamist who throughout this story needs to learn how to be alone and content with herself after getting embarrassingly dumped by her boyfriend of 4 years BUT she was thrown into this life altering transformation when her high school sweetheart and first love of her life is back in her life threatening her job and livelihood - Before they know it they are both competing against each other in a ultimate relationship competition. Seth on the other hand has never really had a long term relationship other than Lana and is tasked to "find love" instead of steering clear of it like Lana needs to. She created wonderful chemistry between Lana and Seth - I for one absolutely adored them together.

All things aside what I LOVED most about the story was Lana's journey of self understanding and acceptance, it was such a vital part of the story and I loved every minute of it! and it had the BEST ending that I did not see coming.

All of that sounds great right? and you might be thinking...the only thing missing to make this perfect is the spice? Wellll you do get that, making this thee perfect rom-com! [coming from a rom-com obsessed reader as myself] Highly recommend this book!

Just my type follows Lana and Seth, who are childhood lovers-turned-enemies. They're forced into close proximity at work by their boss, who pits them against each other for a coveted writing position.

We experience the story through Lana's POV and I found her (& Falon Ballard's writing) to be very witty and easy to read. I'm a big marvel fan myself so appreciated the references (although I think they might have been a liiiiittle too much sometimes).

Overall a solid rom-com, 3.75*

Childhood friends to lovers-to enemies- to lovers again? Sign me up! Lana + Seth 4 Eva! Falon Ballard’s sophomore novel did not disappoint! When two former high school sweethearts, and up and coming writers, unwittingly find themselves working for the same site, and pitted against each other for the same job, it doesn’t take long for the tension between them to heat up? Who will get their dream job? Who will find love along the way? Can they find their way back to each other and have it all? Thank you to #NetGalley and Penguin Random House for my gifted ARC!

Loved this! We get 3 tropes in 1! I relate with Lana in regards to finding long term “duds”. I literally gasped when the ex Seth popped up in the meeting! This book gave out How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days vibes. Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read & review

4 ⭐️

Honestly, the first freaking LINE got me hooked on this book. I loved this slow burn so much!! This was such a delightful sophomore book and a great follow up to Lease on Love which is one of my all time favorites!

The book opens with Lana thinking she’s getting engaged, but actually getting broken up with. For the 4th time. Later, she also receives a message from the one that go away, her first love and first ex, Seth. When Lana thought things couldn’t get worse, Seth is now the new writer at Lana’s work and Lana’s boss has pit them against each other in a competition to win a new writing position.

I have to admit that second chance romances are my favorite but I trust anything Falon Ballard writes. The relationship between Lana and Seth reminded me of Summer and Seth from The OC (which was another favorite show of mine and all time classic), with their quick banter and obvious sexual tension.

Lana herself showed such great growth throughout the book, and really proved herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the end. While Lana’s growth was the core of this book, it was also nice to see how Seth and Lana handled the unresolved tension between their past breakup (and later snub) honestly and maturely. Overall, the plot points made sense and felt natural. This was as much of a story of Lana and her growth, as it was a true rom com. I LOVED it.

Definitely recommend if you’re interested in enemies to lovers and second chance romances.

Also, thanks so much to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam / G. P. Putnam’s Sons for the much appreciated ARC in return for an honest review.

Just My Type is a perfect romance novel for those who love enemies to lovers, second chance romance, forced proximity, and more. This was such a fun read!

The plot: Lana, a successful journalist in LA, is never not in a relationship. When her long-term boyfriend suddenly dumps her instead of proposing, she's thrown for a loop. The very next day, her high-school sweetheart turned enemy (Seth, another successful journalist) shows up at her workplace after moving to LA. The two have as much chemistry as they have combativeness with each other, and they're thrown in a competition for their dream job with two tall orders: stay single (Lana) and find a soulmate (Seth.) Hijinks ensue as Lana and Seth battle not only against one another, but also against their past feelings.

My perspective: This was an excellent read that balanced all of the romance tropes, silliness, and also some deep themes like parental trauma and emotional attachment. Lana and Seth both felt very "real," and though there were some moments where one had to suspend disbelief, the story flowed really well and kept me hooked. I read the book in a single night and was able to fully escape into their storyline. The spice in the novel was well-balanced with the emotional storyline, and I appreciated that the plot wasn't there just to support the spice. I wish I could read more about these characters and highly recommend to those who love books with these tropes, and "bookish" characters!

Thank you NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for this ARC!

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD. I loved Lease on Love, but this one was EVEN BETTER. I loved the banter, the personal growth, the second chance romance...ugh all of it. I am a big sucker for high school sweethearts and this one knocked it OUT OF THE PARK.

Just My Type is an deliciously angst filled second Chance Romance. Two past lovers now workplace rivals meet again after years being forced to compete against each other but along the way are forced to deal with all their misunderstandings and where they went wrong. I loved that you see how he never stopped loving her despite all these years of them fighting and how he always cared for her and showing her with actions, not words. Seeing a flawed female character was refreshing to see and comforting to know that you don’t always have to have it all together and still deserving of love. This book was emotional, angsty, slow burn and such a great follow up book. I can’t wait for what the author has next in store.

I enjoyed this book so much that I devoured it in a single afternoon! I don’t always love second chance romances, but this was perfection— chemistry, character building, vulnerability, enemies to lovers, and heart-stopping romantic moments. Now, I have to go read the author’s first book! Fans of Christina Lauren, Sally Thorne, Emily Henry, and Abby Jiminez will love this! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. This one belongs in my permanent home library!
