Tropes: second chance, enemies to lovers, exes, forced proximity.

Excellent intro! I was immediately sucked and the stage was set perfectly.

It’s the third chapter and I have no idea what Lana looks like, which seems odd. It’s bothering me that I can’t picture her while I read. I think I made it through the whole book and I have no idea what she looks like, but maybe that’s just the author’s style. It’s definitely a pet peeve of mine, but the rest of the book was so great that I’m not taking anything off the rating.

I really, truly loved Just My Type. Lana and Seth’s chemistry was so believable and the way it was paced throughout the story felt very organic and genuine. Lana’s character arc brought me to tears and Seth’s vulnerability was beautiful. This was an excellent, top-notch contemporary romance! (Now give me a Tessa, a Corey, and a May book, pleaseeee!)

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read and review Just My Type. It gets a 5/5 from me. Just My Type is an excellent contemporary romance, perfect for fans of Tessa Bailey and the second chance trope.

All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Such a cute story! Met my expectations of a rom com. Felt like this could one hundred percent be a movie, it would be adorable! Like a fun little mix of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days!

This book was SO cute and funny! It had some of my favorite tropes: Enemies to lovers, second chance romance, rival competition. The banter was SO good! I loved Lana and Parker.

From the first chapter I was hooked! Lana a 30 year old writer thinks she's getting proposed to and ends up getting dumped, cue drinks with her best friend and later that night she receives a instagram DM from her first love Parker who shows up at her job.

A fun competition brings Lana and Parker together for a string of events. I loved the chemistry between these two. This was an incredible story of two characters falling in love again. I also appreciated all the marvel references.

Thank you @NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the eArc.

Just My Type is Falon Ballard’s second smash-hit novel. The story follows Lana Parker as she works at a lifestyle publication, writing about romance and dating. Lana has dreamed of writing about more serious stories, like her ex-high school sweetheart Seth. When that same ex joins her work in a bid for the column promotion she wants, Lana has to learn to move on from her long-term relationship tendencies as well as her ex to achieve her dreams.

I loved the dialogue between Lana and Seth, and this book had all of the best fixings of a contemporary rom-com: Marvel references, regular sessions with therapists and a lot of Slack-based banter. The cast of characters was charming and funny, and I loved the structure of having a calendar of date-like events that ensured our two main characters would see each other.

The first love of a high school romance seldom goes away completely. It is true for Lana & Seth who reconnect 12 years after high school in LA where Lana is currently working as a relationship writer but aspires for more. She had her heart broken twice by Seth and shocked when he is the new employee. Hilarity ensues when Seth & Lana have to complete for the next columnist position. She newly single,, has to put herself for once, while Seth has to work on getting ready for a serious relationship.

I thought the plot was cute, the chemistry Seth & Lana have is fire, Lana's coworkers & their texts are so much fun. Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Putnam's for the ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5 huge stars. There is no such thing as the sophomore jinx for Ms. Ballard. I loved Just My Type as much as I loved her first, Lease on Love. (go read that if you haven't already) It was so funny, it had me laughing from page one. Favorite parts: her use of the word stupid (LOL every single time), the kickboxing chapter (absolutely hilarious), the chapter headings, the yellow tie (swoon), Harry & Sally ("I just got Seussed" oh my gosh, how brilliant is that?!) and a beautiful ending. Very much looking forward to her next one!

Quick fun read, love the relationship between them, and I am always a sucker for a good enemies to lovers. I read this one before lease on love but I will be off to read that next! If you are looking for a light cont. romance this one is for you!

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read an eARC of this book.
My rating for this book is a 4.5/5. Just My Type follows former high school sweethearts Lana and Seth who are pit against each against each other in a series of challenges they have to complete and write articles about. These challenges are geared towards their dating habits that arose after their breakup, Lana a serial monogamous and Seth who hasn’t really had a serious relationship in 12 years.
I enjoyed reading Fallon Ballard’s Lease on Love and I enjoyed Just My Type even more! I loved the story line and how the “enemies” to lover and second chance romance tropes played out. I found many parts of this funny, cute, and heartwarming. I look forward to reading more of Ballard’s romcoms in the future!!!

Falon Ballard writes the cutest contemporary romance books! I love how fast I can read them and they stir multiple emotions but end up leaving me feeling good when complete!

Lana Parker, Marvel obsessed, book blogging badass, was just dumped on what was supposed to be her engagement night. The next day, she finds out that her ex (and high school sweetheart) Seth Carson has taken a position at her office - and upon learning of their shared history, their boss announces they will be competing against each other for their own column at The Chronicle. Lana, serial monogamist, must learn to stay single and find herself. Seth, who never seems to keep a partner for long, must learn how to settle down and find the forever person for him. This book follows them as they both document their experiences in this competition, as well as reopen their somewhat confusing history and rediscover who they are both individually and together.

Wow. Just wow. Falon’s sophomore novel has absolutely exceeded my expectations. After reading (and LOVING) Lease On Love, I knew I had to get my hands on this ARC. And when I say this book has moved its way up to one of my top favorites of the year, I do NOT say that lightly. I loved everything about this book. I found myself at a few different points in this story having to set it down to scream into my pillow from overwhelming adorable moments… literally. I cannot wait for this book to release so I can go sit at a bookstore next to this stack of books and just tell everyone that they need to buy it immediately. There was wonderfully funny banter, great workplace friendships / found family moments, really moving self discovery, and the best book boyfriend to DATE. (Falon really can write a fictional man, SHEESH 🥵)

Confirmed: I will read anything Falon Ballard writes. This was SO cute while exploring some hard feelings at the same time. Sure, I might be biased about my love for second chance romances, but this was SO GOOD.

Thank you NetGalley for an arc in exchange for a review!

I love Legally Blond, second chance romances, and enemies to loves, so this book was an immediate yes for me! This read felt like the perfect romcom read - the humor was great, the steam was steamy, and yet there was still meaningful development of Lana as a person outside of her relationship with Seth.

Second chance romance is always a winner in book. I absolutely flew through Ballards first book so I knew this one would be great as well! This book has the same vibes as how to lose a guy in 10 days which is totally a favorite comfort movie of mine!

It’s been a while since I loved all of the characters in a book and how they fit together! But Parker and Seth were made for each other and everyone deserves a May! This book kept you intrigued trying to figure out the next challenge and how they would try to beat out the other writer for the winning spot!

love this second chance romance about Lana and Seth. It’s definitely a slow burn but the payoff is so worth it. Read it in one sitting (granted, I was on an airplane but it counts). Excellent secondary characters, good 🔥, definitely recommend.

Who doesn't love a good friendly competition...between two exes with a complicated and painful past?
This book was witty and funny. From the painful breakup at the start to the sweet ending, this book had me rooting for the characters. The ensemble cast felt like family, and I loved to see the antics. It kept me reading and kept me laughing.

What an absolute delight of a read! Was it predictable? Yes. But, did I still want to read it? DEFINITELY!!! This was such a great feel good book that reminded me that we are all stronger than we think and that a kiss is sometimes more than a kiss 💋 Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Lara Parker just had her own Legally-Blonde-worthy breakup when her boyfriend of four years dumped her on the night she expected he would propose... but that's not the worst thing going on in her life. No, the worst part is that her first love and high school sweetheart, Seth Carson, has just started as the newest writer at the online magazine where Lara runs a popular relationship column. In a move befitting of the film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Lara and Seth's boss decides to take advantage of the tension between the two and start a contest. Lara, who has been a serial monogamist since Seth broke her heart 12 years ago, has to explore what it's like being single. Seth, who's spent that period traveling and ostensibly dating one woman after another, has to try his hand at preparing for a single relationship. Whoever's articles get the most reader interaction will ultimately get a promotion to a regular newspaper column. As the two are forced to work together on their tasks, the past begins to resurface, leaving Lara wondering: What does it mean to be enough on your own? And can you ever really get over your first love?

I loved Falon Ballard's first book, LEASE ON LOVE, which meant I was eagerly anticipating JUST MY TYPE. It definitely did not disappoint - in fact, I think I might like it better than her first novel. The characters in JUST MY TYPE felt truly believable, as did their particular quirks and flaws. I found the relationship between Seth and Lara to be full of chemistry and one that I absolutely wanted to root for. I appreciated that the tasks Lara and Seth were completing were focused on their personal development (i.e., both characters go to therapy) and that the story both promoted that it's absolutely okay to want love, and you should be comfortable being with yourself.

The story did have a similar vibe to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, so I appreciated that one of the characters named that specifically. There are a couple minor plot points that I felt could have been fleshed out better - for instance, there's repeated mention of two side characters that are interested in each other, but we never get information as to whether that goes anywhere. Additionally, much of the struggles Lara experienced compared to Seth in the workplace felt very much related to the gender imbalances in the journalism world, but that wasn't named. I feel that was a missed opportunity to talk about important struggles.

Overall, though, this was a very enjoyable read. I highly recommend it for people who enjoy '90s and '00s rom-coms, as well as anyone drawn to the second-chance romance trope. This was a wonderful sophomore book by Ballard, and I look forward to seeing what she puts forth in the future!

5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well this one was easy for me. I loved it! Rarely have I read a book of this genre that I was so invested in and enjoyed so wholeheartedly. There really was never a dull moment.

I loved the characters too. For the first time in ages, this was a book in which I wasn’t angry, frustrated or annoyed at the characters for half the book. I felt the personal and emotional growth Lana experiences and goes through and it really tugged at my heart strings. Seth was a great guy and he had his own growth moments as well. I enjoyed that there were great side characters (May, the whole ATF team etc) without making their stories overly important to the rest of the story. Sometimes I get bored with the side character story lines….

This is one of the better books I have read in months! Never a dull moment in this one!
