Author @falonballard infuses her characters with so much heart and personality. This was a fun read. At times Lana's "thank Thor" and other Loki references were grating and seemed very juvenile for a character that is supposed to be in her late twenties/early thirties, but other than that, I really enjoyed this story!

Also, there are two or three lines in this book that packed the romantic punch. Seth Carson, you had me at hello.

“When I decided to relocate and settle in one place, I didn’t even have to think about where to go. I’m the spinning needle of a compass, and you’ve always been my true north, Parker.” I mean…SWOON. Thank you to @netgalley and @putnambooks for the advanced reader copy! I am so glad that I didn't have to wait until 2023 to read this book. It was a balm to my soul, and such a wonderful breathe of fresh air, with the comforting vibes of When Harry Met Sally and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. It was almost like coming home.

This was a cute story. I didn’t love it as much as Lease on love but that’s ok! If you are looking for a cute yet predictable story, this will definitely do the trick.

This was a sweet lovers to enemies to lovers, second chance romance! As someone who enjoys watching the Marvel movies it was cute to see characters/actors/nuances of the Marvel cinematic universe in the book. As well as references to popular tv shows and book stores (Ripped Bodice!). Especially, considering our point of view is through our main character and resident pop culture queen. I will say the epilogue was kind contrived and if you aren’t a Marvel fan, you might be a little confused by the mc’s word choice, but overall it was an endearing read.

For two people who work in journalism, Seth and Lana are truly awful at communicating. I would’ve loved some flashback chapters to them being high school kids in love to make me feel more invested in the romance because it was hard for me to buy into. I LOVED the first chapter, but then I thought everything until the last couple chapters was just okay. Lana was a frustrating character but she was so funny and felt real. I really enjoyed the Los Angeles setting and Ballard took the reader to so many places I love! Definitely use this as your unofficial tour guide if you ever find yourself in my city.

I know a lot of people will love this one, but I think I just need a romcom break. Really enjoyed the writing so I’ll definitely check out more of Ballard’s books. The inclusion of real issues, pop culture references, and laughter all made me round this up to 4 stars. Highly recommend if you love second chance romance, enemies to lovers, and workplace romance.

Giving this one 4.25 stars! This book hooked me from the beginning and never really let me go.

Lana is a serial monogamist who finds herself dumped, when she was anticipating the opposite, AGAIN! To really add salt to the wound, her high school sweetheart and first love comes bounding back into her world, can her life get any worse?

A fun second chance romance that delights with some fun pop culture references, witty banter, and some spice 😉🥵

I could have used more character development, and there were times I wanted just bang their heads together, but overall I found Lana and Seth to be lovable. As a therapist I especially appreciated the therapy shout outs! Get therapy!! Anyway, if you’re looking for a fun and light read that will give you some feels and warm fuzzies, definitely pick up Just My Type!

This was my first experience with an ARC (advanced reader copy) and I’m so excited to get more.

Just My Type features Lana Parker, LA resident, journalist and goes from one long relationship to the next. Enter Seth Carson, highschool sweetheart, the one who got away, and also fellow writer who is now in LA as well. At Lana’s job. Competing for the column Lana wants.

There follows a meant to be friendly competition where Lana is tasked with finding what it means to be alone, and Seth is supposed to settle down. But are they capable of finishing the competition? Will they rekindle their relationship? Or will they go their separate ways never getting closure?

Lots of heartache and old feelings as well as finding oneself. Cute romance read, that at times felt like it wasn’t getting anywhere, only to turn the page and getting sucked back in to the story. Highly recommend when this book drops next year!

Just My Type is a really fun romcom with the added benefit of the perfect execution on the always loved enemies to lovers trope.

Lana is a recently dumped “serial monogamist” who winds up having to work with her first love, Seth. They’re both writers forced to fight over a coveted position at a larger publication. Since Lana can’t stay single and Seth can’t settle down, they’re forced to make lists for each other, Seth’s is to make Lana comfortable being alone, and Lana’s to teach Seth how to be ready for a serious relationship. They are forced to complete these lists together leading to their unsettled past resurfacing for them to finally confront with each other.

Lots of How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days vibes, but in the best way. I thought Seth was really sweet, and I could tell what he came to LA for early on. I loved how Lana eventually made the realization that being “alone” has never been the issue, she was looking to fill a void only one person would.

Definitely would recommend and will add a hard copy to the ever growing collection!

I LOVED this book! It was the sweetest romance with the most lovable characters. When serial monogamist Lana experiences a very public breakup instead of an engagement ring from the man she thought she was going to marry, she's distraught - but more because she finds herself alone. Next thing she knows, her first love (and now a serial dater) Seth arrives in LA - and is now working for the same online magazine that Lana works for. Their boss pits them against each other in a very public competition for a promotion - Lana must stay single and find herself, and Seth must start dating seriously with the goal of settling down. They must also complete a series of tasks together in order to stay in the competition (and to draw in publicity for the magazine). As they spend time together, the ice between them begins to thaw - revealing old feelings that could jeopardize the entire competition.

I loved the enemies to lovers trope combined with the second chance romance angle, and I also loved how the secondary conflicts - Lana's issues with her mom and with her boss - directly impacted her relationship with Seth. It all tied together perfectly. It was a slow burn with an emphasis on self care - including therapy, boundary setting, and understanding yourself.

Falon Ballard is now an auto-buy author for me - her writing gave me Emily Henry and Ali Hazelwood vibes. I loved it!

Love this book and love this author! I can't wait to read her other books!

This book reminds me of some of my favorite movies, in the best ways, legally blonde, how to lose a guy in 10 days, etc.

I absolutely ADORED it 😍 Lana is a serial monogamist who writes relationship advice for a lifestyle blog. She’s just been dumped while expecting a proposal (Elle woods style) and is trying to learn to be happy on her own. She is up for a promotion against none other than her ex high school sweetheart who is new in town and also happens to be a writer. A competition between the two provides all of my favorite things: enemies to lovers, top notch banter, pop culture references, and fun “tasks” the two have to complete. I also really loved Lana’s friends and the hilarious work group texts 😂. I got major How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days vibes and that just so happens to be one of my favorite movies 😍 Gosh, this one was just so, SO good!

This was sweet and an adorable second chance romance. I loved how nerdy Lana was and how well she and Seth fit together even in the midst of arguing.

This book was super nerdy and adorable! I loved it! The story was perfectly balanced between being fun and a little deep. The redemption arc for the characters was spot on and I didn't find myself annoyed by any of the main characters.

Totally recommend and plan to read her other books!

Lane and Fallon stole my heart! I love this couple and this book. Great character, development, excellent writing, and an overall VERY ENJOYABLE book! It was funny and heartwarming. I read it in two nights and am feeling a little lost without it for this evening.💗

Ms. Ballard is the QUEEN of the slow burn. You know it's building, you know mostly where it's going and yet you are hanging on every single word to not miss anything.

There were a few miscommunication or like PLEASE TALK moments, but nothing I couldn't overlook. If you liked her previous, Lease on Love, you will definitely like this one!

I loved this book! The story follows fandom-obsessed, nerdy chic Lana who has been dubbed a “serial monogamist” from friends and therapists alike for her tendency to jump from one long-term relationship to the next ever since her first love broke her heart. When her last relationship ends and her first love (and first heartbreak), Seth Carson, moves back into LA and ends up not only at her job, but in a workplace competition with her for her dream job, things get a little complicated. Both Lana and Seth were hilarious, flawed, complex, and fun characters to connect with! I loved the premise behind this story and the competition was such a fun background to the romance building. I also loved Lana’s therapy sessions and how those were highlighted in the book! The final two articles had my heart swooning❤️ And I’ll forever be wanting a sunflower corsage. A cute, fun, second-chance romance!

DNF at 20%. I'm sorry but this book is just not for me. I found Lana to be really kind of annoying, cringe, and pretentious, also I just personally couldn't bring myself to care about her problems. And the mmc's introduction gave me such a strong ick I just had to put the book down. Thank you to Putnam Books and Netgalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review!

I absolutely loved this book. It was funny, it was a bit sexy, and realistic in love. Life happens and mistakes are made but when two people are meant to be in each other's lives, they always find a way back.

Just My Type by Falon Ballard is a beautiful romcom and the story of Lana and Seth.
 
Lana and Seth were high school sweethearts and each other’s first love. But when they went to college, their relationship ended even though both still had feelings for the other. Their connection is just amazing and I’m so happy they had a chance to reconnect.
 
Both are journalists and Lana writes a dating column while Seth rather focuses on news. And exactly through that they find back to each other. They both compete against each other for a job and it’s also a challenge. Lana doesn’t like being alone and seeks stability through relationships and she now must be on her own and write about that. Seth is almost the opposite and he prepares to settle down. This concept was incredible and added so much thrill to the story.
 
Next to their job they also spend more time together and they become friendly again. And you can definitely feel how both still love the other and it’s a stunning second chance story that I absolutely adored.
 
Overall, I love Lana and Seth as a couple and highly recommend reading this book. 4,5 stars.
